Firstly, muchos gracias for downloading my first WinAmp skin. Now, a bit of background - this skin was originally going to be simply the Pioneer ReplicAmp with a few adjustments to it but it seems that I've re-done most of it. Pioneer ReplicAmp is still damn cool.
To install this, and any other WinAmp skin, you can either extract all files in this archive to your WinAmp skin's directory (typically "X:\Program Files\WinAmp\Skins\") using something like WinZip or PKUNZIP to a folder called "Cougar" or just copy this ZIP file to your skins directory (WinAmp can read zipped skins - cool!). I advise you use the zipped skin and just extract the plugin preset files (explained later) because all the bitmaps add up to over 1Mb unzipped.
If you have any comments/suggestions etc., contact me at piers2@hotmail.com.
Sorry, no website just yet - get updated versions from www.winamp.com/skins/.
Top Four Links
Site Address | What's There | Rating |
www.customize.org | A cool site with hundreds of skins for WinAmp including Pordy's skins which are some of the best around. Also this site has many plugins and even aO presets. | µµµµµ |
www.winamp.com | This site is great - a WinAmp heaven!! The latest version of WinAmp will be here first. The plugins and skins sections are pretty cool but not totally comprehensive. | µµµµµ |
www.mp3-2000.com | You've got the player now you need something to play! This site has hundreds of MP3's to download and all the downloads actually work (pretty unusual for an MP3 site). | µµµµ |
www.mp3.com | MP3.com is the most visited MP3 related site because it has a massive range of MP3 stuff including quite a lot of WinAmp skins and plugins. Unfortunately, all that traffic makes it a bit slow. | µµµ |
This skin requires WinAmp 2.0 or above currently at 2.09 (although probably not for long!) - get WinAmp from www.winamp.com or direct from ftp://ftp.winamp.com/pub/winamp209.exe. For old versions (or newer ones when they are released) just change the number before the files extension (209 above), to whatever version number you want such as ftp://ftp.winamp.com/pub/winamp201.exe for WinAmp 2.01.
This skin is totally free for use with WinAmp. You can freely distribute it as long as you don't change it at and that you include all files and as long as you don't charge for it in any way. Please don't rip it off - go and make your own.
This section gives details of settings are details of how to use the bundled presets for the best plugins which I think look cool with my skin.
Sexy Attached Analysers
My favorite plugin at the moment is Sexy Attached Analysers currently at version 1.61. Use the following settings when configuring the plugin:
Analyser tab
Window Height=85
Style tab
Frequency Bars=Fire
Background=Grid
Drawing Effect=Mirror
Peak Indicators - Colour=Level & Fade
Colour Factory tab
Bars - Position - Left 255=0,0,0 - Faded
Bars - Position - Right 0=172,199,230 - Faded [cyan]
OR - Position - Right 0=224,117,020 - Faded [orange]
Peak - Position - Left 255=192,192,192 - Faded
Peak - Position - Right 0=0,0,0 - Faded
Leave the rest of the settings as the defaults.
Save the profile by right clicking the plugin and clicking "Profiles...". Type something in the top dialogue box and click "Save".
Go to the website at http://web.ionsys.com/~hawk/winamp/ for the latest.
Aquamarine
My second favorite plugin is Aquamarine by Pablo Rewak - Now at v3.05. Use the following settings with my skin if you want:
First choose a preset you dont want to keep.
Colours
Right side=143,203,227
Left Side (not left of the gap)=200,96,0
Far left (left of the gap)=0,0,0
Then click "First-to-last" and then "Save
Preset".
Now right click, click "Analyser" and select "Wireframe"
The rest are defaults I think.
Get the latest version of Aquamarine at members.tripod.com/~holapablo/.
FunkyFX
FunkyFX is a damn cool plugin which is configurable is approximately an infinate amount of ways. FunkyFX saves its presets to seperate files and so I have included one with this plugin.
Simply start FunkyFX, right click on the plugin and click "Load Preset...". Navigate to the directory where you extracted this skin (x:\program files\winamp\skins\ by default) and open "frequency_HiFi_v1.0.ffx". Have fun.
Get FunkyFX at www.winamp.com or at it's home page - www.javigate.com/funkyfx/.
Nullsoft wVis
Nullsoft wVis is the standard windowed plugin which comes with WinAmp. wVis supports presets in the form of .vws files. This skin comes with 4 vws preset files (1.vws - 4.vws) which I think look pretty cool. Extract them to anywhere you want and right click on wVis (either the standard plugin or the one in aO) and click "Presets" and then "Load..." and navigate to the vws files and load 'em!
Nullsoft aO
"aO" is an experimental alternative user interface for WinAmp in the form of a general plugin. Get the plugin from www.winamp.com. Cougar v1.0 comes with two customising files for aO - one for the layout of the controls and one for the colours - the two files are "Cougar v1.0.aol" and "Cougar v1.0.aoc" which should be extracted the the aO directory within your WinAmp plugins directory. Then activate aO though the WinAmp general plugins drop-down list and click on the menu icon (the bottom of the four). Then click "Colors" and click "Cougar v1.0". Do the same with "Layouts" for the Cougar skin for aO.
Thanks to Justin Frankel for
inventing WinAmp.
Thanks to Matt Kenny for the name!!
Thanks to Mike Lynch for writing the Sexy Attached Analysers
plugin.
Thanks to Matt Andrews for creating a damn cool mp3 site - home.onestop.net/matty/mp3/
Can't think of anyone else to thank.
"WinAmp", "Nullsoft" and probably
"aO" are trademarks of Nullsoft.
