1. System Requirements

·      Pentium or compatible CPU, 233 MHz or higher

·      64 Mbytes RAM

·      CD or DVD-ROM drive

·      One unused USB port

·      Recommended: Windows XP (Service Pack 1),

·      Windows Millennium Edition, or Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows 2000

 

Note: Windows 95 and the first edition of Windows 98 are not supported. Functionality of the digital input is limited when Windows 98 Second Edition or Windows 2000 are used. The MIDI functionality of the A62 m (and EMI 6|2 m) is only supported by Windows XP.

 

This driver package will install drivers for the following driver interfaces:

 

·      WDM: Windows Multimedia (MME drivers for Wave and MIDI)

·      WDM: DirectSound

·      EASI

·      ASIO

2. Initial Installation

 

This section describes the driver installation procedure for the first time on your computer. If a driver for your USB device is already installed on your system you should refer to the Driver Update section. The following sub-sections provide a step-by-step guide to the initial installation of the drivers on Windows XP, Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me), Windows 2000, and Windows 98 Second Edition (Windows 98 SE).

 

2.1. Initial Installation on Windows XP

 

·    You must have Administrator privileges to correctly install the drivers on Windows XP.

·    Please ensure that you have installed the latest Service Pack or the latest updates from the Windows Update site. You should have installed Service Pack 1 or the ›Acoustic Echo Cancellation and DV Camera/TV Tuner Support in Windows Messenger‹ fix (Q310507), at the very least. If you have the Emagic CD-ROM that contains the latest drivers, this hotfix may also be found on that CD-ROM. Please ensure to install the appropriate hotfix for your language!

·    Insert the CD-ROM that contains the drivers into your computer's CD-ROM drive, or copy the updated (and unpacked) drivers package to a local drive on your computer.

·    Connect the USB device to any of your computer's unused USB ports via the supplied USB cable.

·    The ›Found New Hardware Wizard‹ will automatically launch.

·    If you are installing the drivers from CD-ROM select the “Install the software automatically (Recommended)” option. Alternately, select the "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" option and follow the onscreen instructions.

·    Press the "Next" button.

·    After a few seconds a message box appears: ›The software you are installing for this hardware: Emagic … has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP...‹ It is safe to install the drivers. The Emagic drivers are fully functional and there is no risk attached to the installation of these drivers on your system.

·    Press the "Continue Anyway" button.

·    After a few seconds the green LEDs on the USB device will illuminate and a message box appears: ›Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard‹.

·    Press the “Finish” button.

·    Several ›Found New Hardware‹ balloon tips will appear onscreen, which indicate the new devices found. No intervention on your part is necessary during this phase of the installation procedure.

·    Following this display, which should only take a moment, the driver installation will have been completed successfully. A small icon with a blue box and a red check mark in the system tray indicates a successful installation.

 

2.2. Initial Installation on Windows Millennium Edition

 

·    Insert the CD-ROM that contains the drivers into your computer's CD-ROM drive, or copy the updated (and unpacked) drivers package to a new floppy disk.

·    Connect the USB device to any of your computer's unused USB ports via the supplied USB cable.

·    The ›Add New Hardware‹ Wizard will automatically launch.

·    Select the following option: “Automatic search for a better driver (Recommended)”.

·    Click on the "Next" button.

·    After a few seconds, the following message will appear: ›Windows has finished installing the new hardware device.‹

·    Click on the "Finish" button.

·    After a few seconds, several additional ›New Hardware Found‹ boxes will appear onscreen, which indicate the new devices found. No intervention on your part is necessary during this phase of the installation procedure.

·    Following this display, which should only take a moment, your installation will have been completed successfully. A small icon with a blue box and a red check mark in the system tray indicates a successful installation.

 

2.3. Initial Installation on Windows 2000

 

·    You must have Administrator privileges to correctly install the drivers on Windows 2000.

·    Insert the CD-ROM that contains the drivers into your computer's CD-ROM drive, or copy the updated (and unpacked) drivers package to a local drive on your computer.

·    Connect the USB device to any of your computer's unused USB ports via the supplied USB cable.

·    The ›Found New Hardware Wizard‹ will automatically launch.

·    Click on the "Next" button.

·    Select "Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended).” option.

·    Click on the "Next" button.

·    Select a search location, if necessary. If you are installing the driver from CD-ROM, check the CD-ROM drive option.

·    Click on the "Next" button.

·    The following message will appear on-screen: ›The wizard found a driver for the following device: USB Device‹

·    Click on the "Next" button.

·    After a few seconds the following message will appear on-screen: ›Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard, Emagic …, The software for this device is now installed, but may not work correctly.‹

·    Click the "Finish" button.

·    After a few seconds, additional ›Found New Hardware‹ boxes will appear onscreen.

·    During installation you may be asked to insert the Windows 2000 Installation CD-ROM or the Emagic Drivers CD-ROM. Please insert the appropriate media and/or select the correct drive and path from the file selector box, as prompted.

·    After a few seconds a message box appears: "Digital Signature Not Found".

·    This message is shown as the Emagic drivers currently do not contain a Microsoft digital signature. It is safe to install the drivers. The Emagic drivers are fully functional and there is no risk attached to the installation of these drivers on your system.

·    You will be asked the following: ›Do you want to continue the installation?‹

·    Click on the "Yes" button.

·    Following these steps, your installation will have been completed successfully. A small icon with a blue box and a red check mark in the system tray indicates a successful installation.

 

2.4. Initial Installation on Windows 98 Second Edition

This driver package will not run on Windows 95 and Windows 98 "First Edition". To ensure that you are running at least the second edition of Windows 98, right click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop and select “Properties”. In the System tab: "Microsoft Windows 98, Second Edition, 4.10.2222 A" should be displayed.

                       

·    Insert the CD-ROM that contains the drivers into your computer's CD-ROM drive, or copy the updated (and unpacked) drivers package to a local drive on your computer. During installation the original Windows 98 Second Edition Installation CD-ROM is also needed.

·    Connect the USB device to any of your computer's unused USB ports via the supplied USB cable. The blue LED of the USB device will be lit.

·    The ›Add New Hardware‹ Wizard will automatically launch. Click on the “Next” button.

·    Select the “Search for the best driver for your device. (Recommended).” radio button.

·    Click the "Next" button.

·    Select a search location, if necessary. If you are installing the driver from CD-ROM, check the CD-ROM drive option.

·    Click on the "Next" button.

·    The: ›Windows driver file search for the device: Emagic... Windows is now ready to install the best driver for this device.‹ dialog will appear.

·    Click on the "Next" button.

·    During installation you may be asked to insert the Windows 98 Second Edition Installation CD-ROM or the Emagic Drivers CD-ROM. Please insert the appropriate media and/or select the correct drive and path from the file selector box, as prompted.

·    After a few seconds, the green LEDs of the USB device will illuminate and the following message will be displayed: ›Windows has finished installing the software that your new hardware device requires.‹

·    Click on the “Finish” button.

·    After a few seconds several additional ›New Hardware Found‹ boxes will appear onscreen, which indicate the new devices found. No intervention on your part is necessary during this phase of the installation procedure.

·    Some moments later the following message will launch: ›You must restart your computer before the new settings will take effect. Do you want to restart your computer now?‹

·    Click on the "Yes" button.

·    Your computer will restart.

·    Your installation will have been completed successfully. A small icon with a blue box and a red check mark in the system tray indicates a successful installation.

 

3. Driver Update

    

This section describes the update procedure for a system with an existing driver installed. If this is the first time you have connected the USB device to your computer, you should refer to the Initial Installation section. The following sub-sections detail the steps necessary to update the drivers on Windows XP, Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me), Windows 2000, and Windows 98 Second Edition (Windows 98 SE).

3.1. Driver Update on Windows XP

 

·    You must have Administrator privileges to correctly update the drivers on Windows XP.

·    The USB device must have been previously installed successfully on the system and must be connected to a USB port.

·    Please ensure that you have installed the latest Service Pack or the latest updates from the Windows Update site. You should have installed Service Pack 1 or the ›Acoustic Echo Cancellation and DV Camera/TV Tuner Support in Windows Messenger‹ fix (Q310507), at the very least. If you have the Emagic CD-ROM that contains the latest drivers, this hotfix may also be found on that CD-ROM. Please ensure to install the appropriate hotfix for your language!

·    Insert the CD-ROM that contains the drivers into your computer's CD-ROM drive, or copy the updated (and unpacked) drivers package to a local drive on your computer.

·    Click the "Start" button on the lower left of the Windows taskbar.

·    Browse to the Settings > Control Panel.

·    Double click on the “System” icon. Open the “Hardware” tab by clicking once on it.

·    Press the „Device Manager" button.

·    Expand the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" tree by clicking the "+" symbol to the left of the central window panel.

·    Right click the entry of your USB device and select the “Update Driver…” entry from the pull down menu. This will launch the ›Hardware Update Wizard‹.

·    Select the “Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)” option.

·    Select the “Don't search. I will choose the driver to install.” option.

·    In the ensuing window, press the “Have Disk…” button and browse to your source directory.

·    When returning to the model list press the "Next" button.

·    During installation you may be asked to insert the Windows XP Installation CD-ROM or the Emagic Drivers CD-ROM. Please insert the appropriate media and/or select the correct drive and path from the file selector box, as prompted.

·    A message box appears: ›The software you are installing for this hardware: Emagic … has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP...‹ It is safe to install the drivers! The Emagic drivers are fully functional and there is no risk attached to the installation of these drivers on your system.

·    Press the "Continue Anyway" button.

·    After a few seconds a message box appears: ›Completing the Hardware Update Wizard‹ and ›The hardware you installed will not work until you restart your computer.‹

·    Press the "Finish" button.

·    You will be prompted with: ›Your hardware settings have changed. You must restart your computer for these changes to take effect.‹

·    Click on the "Yes" button.

·    Your computer will restart

·    The installation will have been completed successfully.

·    You should now unplug the USB device, wait a few seconds, and then reconnect again. This step will also update the firmware of your USB device.

·    In case you are using the EASI or ASIO driver, it can now be necessary to select this driver again from your audio software. Please refer to the manual of your audio software to see how this can be managed.

 

3.2. Driver Update on Windows Millennium Edition

 

·    The USB device must have been previously installed successfully on the system and must be connected to a USB port.

·    Insert the CD-ROM that contains the drivers into your computer's CD-ROM drive, or copy the updated (and unpacked) drivers package to a local drive on your computer. Note:  Do not have blank spaces in the path to the driver’s folder.

·    Click the "Start" button on the lower left of the Windows taskbar.

·    Browse to the Settings > Control Panel.

·    Double click on the "System" icon.

·    In the ensuing window, open the "Device Manager" tab, by clicking once on it.

·    Expand the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" tree by clicking the "+" symbol to the left of the central window panel.

·    Double click on the entry of your USB device. This will launch a new window.

·    Open the "Driver" tab, by clicking once on it.

·    Click on the "Update Driver..." button

·    The ›Update Device Driver Wizard‹ will appear on-screen.

·    Select the “Specify the location of the driver (Advanced)” option, by clicking once on the radio button.

·    Click the "Next" button.

·    Browse to, or type in the location of the driver package.

·    Click on the "Next" button.

·    A message appears indicating that: ›Windows has found an updated driver for this device, and also some other drivers that should work with this device.‹

·    Select the following option: “The updated driver (Recommended)” by clicking once on it.

·    Click the "Next" button.

·    The: ›Windows is now ready to install the best driver for this device.‹ message will appear.

·    Click on the "Next" button.

·    During installation you may be asked to insert the Windows Millennium Edition Installation CD-ROM or the Emagic Drivers CD-ROM. Please insert the appropriate media and/or select the correct drive and path from the file selector box, as prompted.

·    After a few seconds the: ›Windows has finished installing an updated driver for your hardware device.‹ message will be displayed.

·    Click the "Finish" button.

·    When the: ›To finish setting up your new hardware, you must restart your computer.‹ message appears.

·    Click the "Yes" button.

·    Your computer will restart.

·    The update will have been completed successfully.

·    You should now unplug the USB device, wait a few seconds, and then reconnect again. This step will also update the firmware of your USB device.

·    In case you are using the EASI or ASIO driver, it can now be necessary to select this driver again from your audio software. Please refer to the manual of your audio software to see how this can be managed.

 

3.3. Driver Update on Windows 2000

 

·    You must have Administrator privileges to correctly update the drivers on Windows 2000.

·    The USB device must have been previously installed successfully on the system and must be connected to a USB port.

·    Insert the CD-ROM that contains the drivers into your computer's CD-ROM drive, or copy the updated (and unpacked) drivers package to a local drive on your computer.

·    Click the "Start" button on the lower left of the Windows taskbar.

·    Browse to the Settings > Control Panel.

·    Double click on the “System” icon. Open the “Hardware” tab by clicking once on it.

·    Press the "Device Manager" button.

·    Expand the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" tree by clicking the "+" symbol to the left of the central window panel.

·    Double click on the entry of your USB device. This will launch a new window.

·    Open the "Driver" tab, by clicking once on it.

·    Click on the "Update Driver..." button

·    The ›Upgrade Device Driver Wizard‹ will be displayed.

·    Click on the "Next" button.

·    Select the: "Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver" option.

·    Click on the "Next" button.

·    The ›Select a Device Driver‹ box will appear.

·    Click on the "Have Disk..." button

·    Enter the path or browse to the drive that contains the updated driver package.

·    Click the "OK" button.

·    When the ›Select a Device Driver‹ box is displayed select the “Composite Device” of your device model from the list and click on the "Next" button.

·    You will be informed that: ›The wizard is ready to install the driver for the following device:‹

·    Click on the "Next" button.

·    During installation you may be asked to insert the Windows 2000 Installation CD-ROM or the Emagic Drivers CD-ROM. Please insert the appropriate media and/or select the correct drive and path from the file selector box, as prompted.

·    Following the display of this message: ›Completing the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard, Emagic …, Windows has finished installing the software for this device. The hardware you installed will not work until you restart your computer‹

·    Click the "Finish" button.

·    Close the Device Properties window.

·    You will be prompted with: ›Your hardware settings have changed. You must restart your computer for these changes to take effect.‹

·    Click on the "Yes" button.

·    Your computer will restart

·    The update will have been completed successfully

·    You should now unplug the USB device, wait a few seconds, and then reconnect again. This step will also update the firmware of your USB device.

·    In case you are using the EASI or ASIO driver, it can now be necessary to select this driver again from your audio software. Please refer to the manual of your audio software to see how this can be managed.

 

3.4. Driver Update on Windows 98 Second Edition

 

·    The USB device must have been previously installed successfully on the system and must be connected to a USB port.

·    Insert the CD-ROM that contains the drivers into your computer's CD-ROM drive, or copy the updated (and unpacked) drivers package to a local drive on your computer. Note:  Do not have blank spaces in the path to the driver’s folder.

·    Click the "Start" button on the lower left of the Windows taskbar.

·    Browse to the Settings > Control Panel.

·    Double click on the "System" icon.

·    In the ensuing window, open the "Device Manager" tab, by clicking once on it.

·    Expand the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" tree by clicking the "+" symbol to the left of the central window panel.

·    Double click on the entry of your USB device. This will launch a new window.

·    Open the "Driver" tab, by clicking once on it.

·    Click on the "Update Driver..." button

·    The ›Update Device Driver Wizard‹ will appear on-screen.

·    Click on the "Next" button.

·    Select the: "Search for a better driver than the one your device is using now. (Recommended)" option.

·    Click on the "Next" button.

·    Browse to, or type in the location of the driver package.

·    Click on the "Next" button.

·    A message will appear asking: ›What do you want to install?‹ Select the following option: "The updated driver (Recommended) "

·    Click on the "Next" button.

·    A message will inform you that: ›Windows is now ready to install the best driver for this device.‹

·    Click on the "Next" button.

·    During installation you may be asked to insert the Windows 98 Second Edition Installation CD-ROM or the Emagic Drivers CD-ROM. Please insert the appropriate media and/or select the correct drive and path from the file selector box, as prompted.

·    After a few seconds, the following message will be displayed: ›Windows has finished installing an updated driver for your hardware device.‹

·    Click the "Finish" button.

·    When the: ›To finish setting up your new hardware, you must restart your computer.‹ message appears.

·    Click the "Yes" button.

·    Your computer will restart. This may take several minutes. Please wait until your computer has been restarted.

·    The update will have been completed successfully.

·    You should now unplug the USB device, wait a few seconds, and then reconnect again. This step will also update the firmware of your USB device.

·    In case you are using the EASI or ASIO driver, it can now be necessary to select this driver again from your audio software. Please refer to the manual of your audio software to see how this can be managed.
