1. System Requirements
- Pentium or compatible CPU, 233 MHz or higher
- 32 Mbytes RAM
- At least one unused USB port, if the Unitor is connected via USB
- At least one unused COM port, if the Unitor is connected via the serial
port
- Windows98 (SE), Windows Millennium or Windows 2000 (with service pack 2) , Windows XP
2.1 Initial Installation
under Windows 98 (Second Edition) and Millennium
2.1.1 Unitor8/AMT8/MT4
connected via USB Port - Initial Installation - Win 9x/ME
This installation guide assumes that
you've the driver CD included with your new Unitor8/AMT8, or you've downloaded
the drivers for the Unitor8, AMT8 and MT4, and it's the first time you've
tried to connect the Emagic midi device to your computer.
To run your interface via USB you will have to install two drivers: the USB driver and the MIDI driver. This installation will guide you through the whole process.
Please proceed as follows:
· Connect your MIDI interface to the USB port of your computer.
· The "Add New Hardware Wizard" will automatically open. Follow the instructions of the "Add New Hardware Wizard".
· When asked for the driver files, please guide the "Add New Hardware Wizard" to the location of the driver files, i.e. the folder where you placed the driver files, or to the CD.
· Continue to follow the instructions and the USB driver will be installed.
· The "Add New Hardware Wizard" will open again; repeat the described process to install the MIDI drivers.
· Click "Finish"
· The installation was completed successfully.
2.1.2 Unitor8/AMT8 connected
via serial port - Initial Installation - Win 9x/ME
This installation guide assumes that you have the driver CD included with your new Unitor8/AMT8, or you've downloaded the drivers for the Unitor8, AMT8 and MT4, and it's the first time you've tried to connect the Emagic midi device to your computer.
Please proceed as follows:
· Open the Hardware Wizard (Start - Settings - Control Panel - Add New Hardware).
· Click on "Next", then "Next" again in the following dialog.
· Now the wizard will search to see if there's any plug'n'play hardware connected.
· In the following window choose "No, I want to select the hardware from a list", and click "Next".
· Choose "Audio-, Video- and Game-Controller", click "Next" then click "have disk.. " in the following window.
· Please guide the "Add New Hardware Wizard" to the location of the driver files, i.e. the folder where you placed the driver files, or to the CD.
· Now you'll see a list of several Emagic midi devices, from which you should choose "Emagic Unitor8 Serial - Midi, SMPTE, VITC, LTC", or "Emagic AMT8 Serial - Midi", depending on which midi interface you have.
· Click "Next".
· After a few seconds a message box appears: "Completing the Hardware Update Wizard"
· Click the "Finish" button.
· The installation was completed successfully.
2.2 Initial Installation
under Windows 2000
2.2.1 Unitor8/AMT8/MT4 connected via USB Port - Initial Installation - Windows
2000
This installation guide assumes that you have the driver CD included with your new Unitor8/AMT8, or you've downloaded the drivers for the Unitor8, AMT8 and MT4, and it's the first time you've tried to connect the Emagic midi device to your computer.
To run your interface via USB you will have to install two drivers: the USB driver and the MIDI driver.
This installation will guide you through the whole process.
Please proceed as follows:
· Connect your MIDI interface to the USB port of your computer.

alert: "The software you are installing for this hardware: Emagic Unitor,
has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows
2000 ... "
It is safe to install the drivers. The Emagic drivers are fully functional
and there is no risk attached to the installation of these drivers on your
system.
· Click the "Continue Anyway" button.
· After a few seconds a message box appears: "Completing the Hardware Update Wizard".
· Click "Finish"
· The installation was completed successfully.
2.2.2 Unitor8/AMT8 connected via serial port - Initial Installation - Windows
2000

the instructions of the "Found New Hardware Wizard". Again you'll get the following alert:
"The software you are installing for this hardware: Emagic Unitor, has
not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows 2000
... " ·
Click
the "Continue Anyway" button. ·
After
a few seconds a message box appears: "Completing the Hardware Update
Wizard". ·
Click
"Finish" ·

installation was completed successfully. This installation guide assumes that

the drivers for the Unitor8 and AMT8, and it's the first time you've tried
to connect the Emagic midi device to your computer. Please proceed as follows: ·

hardware is already connected. If not, do so, and mark 'Yes, I have already
connected the hardware' and click "Next"' again. ·

the following window choose "Install the hardware that I manually select
from a list", and click "Next". ·
Choose
" Sound-, Video- and Game-Controller", click "Next" then
click "have disk.. " in the following window. ·
When
asked for the driver files, please guide the "Add Hardware Wizard"
to the location of the driver files, i.e. the folder where you placed the
driver files, or to the CD. ·
Now
you'll see a list of several Emagic midi devices, from which you choose "Emagic
Unitor8 Serial - Midi, SMPTE, VITC, LTC" or "Emagic AMT8 Serial
- Midi", depending on which midi interface you have. ·
Click
two times "Next" On Windows 2000 you'll get the following
alert: "The software you are installing for this hardware: Emagic Unitor,
has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows
XP ... ". ·
Click
the "Continue Anyway" button. ·
After
a few seconds a message box appears: "Completing the Add Hardware Wizard". ·
Click
the "Finish" button. ·
The
installation was completed successfully. 3. Driver Update This installation guide assumes that
you have downloaded the USB drivers for the Unitor8/AMT8, and would now like
to use them via USB instead of the COM Ports. To run your interface via USB you
will have to install two drivers: the USB driver and the MIDI driver. This installation will guide you
through the whole process. Please proceed as follows: ·
Open
the Windows Device Manager (Start - Settings - Control Panel - System). ·
Remove
or disable (if you would like to have the option of going back to the COM-Port)
the current Unitor device, which you find under "Audio, Video and Game-Controllers". ·
Now
continue with the initial installation for the USB port as described above. This installation
guide assumes that you have downloaded the USB drivers for the Unitor8/AMT8/MT4
and would now like to update the driver. Please
proceed as follows: ·
Open
the Windows Device Manager (Start - Settings - Control Panel - System). ·
Expand
the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" tree by clicking the "+"
symbol beside it. ·
Double-click
on the "Emagic MIDI device" entry, open the "Driver" tab
in the new window by clicking on it, and then click on the "Update Driver
... " button. ·
Browse
to, or type in the location of your downloaded drivers. ·
Continue
to follow the instructions and the USB port driver will be installed. ·
You'll
be prompted to restart the computer. ·
After
restarting open the Windows Device Manager again. ·
Expand
the "Audio-, Video- and Game-Controller" tree by clicking the "+"
symbol beside it. ·
Double-click
on the "Emagic Unitor8 USB - MIDI, SMPTE, VITC, LTC" entry (if you have an AMT8 or a MT4, the entry name
is similar), open the "Driver" tab in the new window by clicking
on it, and then click on the "Update Driver ... " button ·
Browse
to, or type in the location of your downloaded drivers. ·
Continue
to follow the instructions and the USB port driver will be installed. ·
After
a few seconds a message box will appear: "Completing the Hardware Update
Wizard" ·
Click
the "Finish" button. ·
Please
restart the computer for a second time. 3.2.2 Unitor8 MkII / AMT8 INSTALLATION
GUIDE - Serial - Driver Update - Win 9x/ME If you want to keep the Unitor8/AMT8
connected via the COM Port, you'll have to update the driver via the Device
Manager (Start - Settings - Control Panel - System). ·
Open
the Windows Device Manager (Start - Settings - Control Panel - System). ·
Expand
the "Audio, Video and Game-Controller" tree by clicking the "+"
symbol beside it. ·
Double-click
on the Unitor8 entry, open the "Driver" tab by clicking on it and
click on the "Update Driver ... " button. ·
Choose
"Search for a better driver than the one your device is using now. (Recommended)" ·
Browse
to, or type in the location of your downloaded drivers, and then click on
"Next" ·
A
message will appear asking: "What do you want to install?" Select the following option: "The updated
driver, (Recommended) Emagic Unitor8/AMT8 via serial port" ·
Click "Next" ·
Click
the "Finish" button. ·
The
installation was completed successfully. As this is the first released
driver, which supports USB under Windows 2000, this installation guide is
only useful for testers of the previously unreleased drivers. This installation guide assumes that
you have downloaded the USB drivers for the Unitor8/AMT8/MT4, and would now
like to update the driver. Please proceed as follows:
2.3 Initial Installation
under Windows XP

If you want to keep the Unitor8/AMT8 connected via the COM Port, you'll have to update the driver via the Device Manager (Start - Settings - Control Panel - System).
The following section describes the update of the serial driver:

symbol beside it.
