Call-originate functions are now supported on the 8235-I40 DIALs Switch and RADIUS accounting functions are added to the 8235 fixed-port models, normalizing the base functions on the two platforms. Performance of the two platforms in the analog environment is improved with a flash ROM modem speed upgrade to 33.6 Kbps. The ISDN environment is also extended by adding V.120 rate adaptation support. Both platforms have added IP filtering capability adding another security option in IP environments. Performance is improved for file-system-based activities/applications in Netware environments through the use of Powerburst acceleration support, an optional feature on all 8235 models. New shell support features for customization of the shell login process, and support for Domain Naming Services (DNS) ease the network managers load. RADIUS enhancements provide better interoperability with other RADIUS environments and improved information for management and accounting. New Dial-In features include support for Netware 32-bit client, integration of the Powerburst client agent, support for CAPI 2.0. New Dial-Out clients DATA BASE : ALET PAGE: 2 for Windows (R) 95 and Windows NT are also provided with Release 4.5. OS/2 (R) Dial-Out, using IP protocol on the LAN, is added as an alternative to using IPX. New WAN adapters are provided for the 8235 I40. They are: a Quad T1 analog-only card for North America installations providing 4 T1 ports for channelized T1 service, allowing 96 analog sessions on a single card; a new dual T1/PRI card with software selectable CSU/DSU function, for channelized T1 and for T1 with PRI ISDN. INTENDED CUSTOMERS Intended users are customers who have networks with employees who need casual to full-time access from remote locations to their LAN-attached resources. Companies who have business partners or customers who are given some access to the company LAN are candidates for the various 8235 models. The Model I40 is for corporations and service providers, including ISPs, that provide LAN access to a high number of concurrent dialed in remote users. The fixed-port models of the 8235 address the needs of the smaller businesses, down to the remote branch or home office LAN. Analog and ISDN services are supported on all models. KEY PREREQUISITES The 8235 I40 requires T1 with channelization or PRI ISDN. The fixed-port models of the 8235 require standard analog phone service connections, ISDN BRI connections, or external terminal adapters. The 8235 Models require a Windows-based workstation with the 8235 management software installed, or for the 8235 fixed-port models, the 8235 Nways (TM) application running on the appropriate, supported platform.
