SUBJECT:  Installation and usage of IBM 4247 L03 printer drivers and
colon files (virtual printers) for AIX.

OVERVIEW: The IBM 4247 L03 printer is supported on AIX 5.1 and greater
by files provided on this CD.  When these files have been
installed, the user will be able to add a 4247L3 as a printer device,
and add virtual printers as a 4247L3 in five emulation modes; IBM
2391+, IBM Proprinter XL24, IBM Proprinter XL24 AGM, Epson EscP LQ,
and Epson LQ 1600K.  Automatic emulation mode switching is provided,
allowing support for multiple data streams on a single printer with
different virtual printers.

INSTALLATION:  The files are currently delivered on a CD. The first
file is IBM4247L3.TXT, which contains this installation information.
The second file is IBM4247L3.tar, which contains all the drivers and
additional information files. To copy the files from the CD, mount
the CD drive using the following command:

	mount -v cdrfs -o ro /dev/cd0 /mnt

Then, copy the IBM4247L3.tar file to the directory of choice (e.g. /tmp)
with the command:

	cp /mnt/IBM4247L3.tar /tmp

Unpack the tar file with:

	tar -xvf IBM4247L3.tar

The installation commands must be run as super user (root).

To install the ibm4247L3 driver type:

	add_ibm4247L3

This places the colon files in /usr/lib/lpd/pio/predef, and
adds the device to the odm database.

To remove the driver use the following script:

	rm_ibm4247L3

README FILES:  There is a readme file included for each emulation
mode that describes the flags to the 'qprt' command that allow
the user to customize printing using these virtual printers.
Each flag corresponds to a flag attribute in the colon file
which may be modified for permanent customization.

Adding a Printer:
# smitty mkpq
        Choose the appropriate connection from this menu:

Changing a virtual printer:
# smitty chpq
        Select Print Queue Name
        This menu will show:
                Characteristic to Change / Show
        1 Printer Setup
        2 Default Print Job Attributes
        3 Accounting File
        4 Queuing Discipline
        Choose 2 Default Print Job Attribute
        This will allow easy changing of job attributes through a menu
                Change / Show Default Print Job Attributes
        Print queue name                                    4247a

        Make Changes and hit enter.  Most options have pop up selections.

PRINTING TO THE QUEUES:  To print to the queues, use the standard UNIX
or AIX print commands, lp, lpr, enq, and qprt.  The qprt command
supports the largest range of commands for selection pitch and print
styles.  For more information see the individual readme files.

Examples:
qprt -Ptest2391 /etc/motd
enq -Ptesteps /etc/qconfig
lptest 50 50 | lp -dtestpro
