7913 ATTACHMENT OF TWINAX AND COAX PRINTERS This FLASH is intended to clarify support for attachment of COAX and TWINAX IPDS printers using the IDATA 7913 LAN Attachment device. Although the 7913 supports both TWINAX and COAX IPDS printers, at the present time, TWINAX printers can not be used in S/370 or S/390 PSF host environments in all cases. The IPDS microcode for TWINAX and COAX printer models does differ on some of the printers. Some of the TWINAX printer models are not currently supported by PSF/MVS, PSF/VM or PSF/VSE. This includes attachment to a S/370 host using the PSF/DIRECT features of PSF/2 and PSF/6000. Currently PSF/MVS, PSF/VM, and PSF/VSE support the TWINAX printer models of the 4028 and the 6400 printers. Only COAX models of all other 7913 attached printers are supported by PSF/MVS, PSF/VM, and PSF/VSE. The AS/400 environment however, will support BOTH TWINAX and COAX printer models through a 7913 attachment. For example, the following configurations are NOT SUPPORTED: PSF/MVS----------------PSF DIRECT (PSF/2)----------7913--------3116 (SNA) (TCP/IP) (TWINAX) PSF/MVS----------------7913----------------3116 (TCP/IP) (TWINAX) The following are SUPPORTED environments: PSF/MVS-------------PSF DIRECT (PSF/2)----------7913------------4028 (SNA) (TCP/IP) (COAX or TWINAX) PSF/MVS----------------7913----------------4028 (TCP/IP) (COAX or TWINAX) PSF/400----------------7913----------------3116 (TCP/IP) (COAX or TWINAX) PSF/400------------PSF DIRECT (PSF/2)---------7913-------------3116 (SNA) (TCP/IP) (COAX or TWINAX) Note: This FLASH should be considered clarification for the PSF/2 and PSF/6000 announcement letters 294-695 and 294-793 respectively.
