Why aren't the SCRIPT messages numbered?

Question

Why aren't the SCRIPT messages numbered? I can't look up the message description without a message number. How can I turn the message identifiers on?

Answer

Use the MESSAGE(ID) option on the SCRIPT command to turn on message
identifiers & numbers. Unfortunately the default setting is to not print
  message identifiers.

You can modify DCF at installation time to make MESSAGE(ID) the default.

The messages manual (SH35-0048) contains an alphabetical listing of the
messages if you need to look up message text alphabetically.
