*********************************************************************** IBM Infoprint Server for OS/390 and z/OS Infoprint Port Monitor for Windows NT and Windows 2000 Read Me (C) COPYRIGHT International Business Machines Corp. 1998, 2001 All Rights Reserved Licensed Materials - Property of IBM US Government Users Restricted Rights - Use, duplication or disclosure restricted by GSA ADP Schedule Contract with IBM Corp. *********************************************************************** This document helps you customize your workstation for printing to: o OS/390 and z/OS printers managed by Infoprint Server for OS/390 and z/OS o OS/390 printers managed by the OS/390 Print Server OVERVIEW To customize your workstation, you must add the OS/390 or z/OS printer to your Windows workstation as a Windows printer. When you add a Windows printer, you must select a driver and a port for the printer: o Driver: The printer driver converts your documents to a format that the printer understands, for example, to AFP format (for IBM AFP printers) or to PostScript format (for IBM or other PostScript printers). o Port: To print to an OS/390 or z/OS printer, you must select a logical port called an "Infoprint port", instead of a physical port such as LPT1. The Infoprint Port Monitor monitors all Infoprint ports and transmits output created by the printer driver to Infoprint Server running on the OS/390 or z/OS system. After you have downloaded the Infoprint Port Monitor, installed it, and restarted your Windows system, one Infoprint port is predefined for you. You must configure this port to associate it with the particular OS/390 or z/OS printer to which you want to print and to optionally specify job attributes. You can reconfigure a port at any time if you want to change the port configuration. If you need to print to more than one OS/390 or z/OS printer, you must add additional Infoprint ports to your Windows system. For each OS/390 or z/OS printer, you must select and configure a separate Infoprint port. See the following sections for step-by-step instructions for these tasks: o Collecting information about your print environment o Adding an OS/390 or z/OS printer to your workstation o Adding another OS/390 or z/OS printer and port to your workstation (optional) o Reconfiguring an Infoprint port (optional) NEW FEATURE When you configure an Infoprint port, you can now specify information, such as your name and department, that can be printed on the printer's separator sheet. Whether or not this information prints depends on how your administrator has configured the printer's separator sheet. You can also specify job attributes such as the number of copies and whether you want to print on both sides of the paper. The valid job attributes are described in: o "OS/390 Infoprint Server User's Guide" S544-5692 o "z/OS Infoprint Server User's Guide" S544-5746 o "OS/390 Print Server User's Guide for OS/390 UNIX System Services" S544-5543 If you have already added an OS/390 or z/OS printer to your Windows workstation, you can reconfigure the associated Infoprint port to specify information for the separator sheet or job attributes. See "RECONFIGURING AN INFOPRINT PORT" for instructions. COLLECTING INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR PRINT ENVIRONMENT Before you begin, ask your system administrator for the following information: o The name of the printer driver to select for the printer. If the printer driver is the IBM AFP printer driver, download the driver from the Web (www.ibm.com/printers) or from the OS/390 or z/OS system before continuing. o The host name or IP address where Print Server or Infoprint Server is running on the OS/390 or z/OS system. o The port number for Print Server or Infoprint Server on the OS/390 or z/OS system. Usually, the port number is 515. o The name of the OS/390 printer to use. Your system administrator must have defined this printer to Print Server or Infoprint Server in the Printer Inventory. ADDING AN OS/390 OR z/OS PRINTER TO YOUR WORKSTATION Follow these steps to add an OS/930 or z/OS printer to your workstation: 1. On your Windows desktop, double-click My Computer, and then double-click the Printers folder. 2. Double-click Add Printer, which starts the Add Printer wizard. 3. Follow these steps in the Add Printer wizard: a. Click My Computer, and then click Next. b. Click Infoprint Server for OS/390 in the Available ports list. c. Click Configure Port. Note: If a name is already displayed in the Printer Name field of the Infoprint Port Configuration window, it means that another Windows printer is already associated with this port. In this case, follow these steps to add another Infprint port before proceeding: 1.) Click Cancel to return to the list of available ports. 2.) Click Add Port. 3.) In the Printer Ports window, select Infoprint Port Monitor, and click New Port. 4.) In the Infoprint Port window, type a name for the new port, for example Infoprint-2. Use a name that is not used by any other port. Then click OK. 5.) In the Printer Ports window, click Cancel. d. In the Infoprint Port Configuration window: 1.) Select Infoprint Server for OS/390 in the Print Server field. 2.) Click Options if you want to specify information for the printer's separator sheet or job attributes. In the Infoprint Server for OS/390 Options window: a) Type your name, department, room, building, and address. b) Type job attributes, separated by spaces. (See "NEW FEATURE.") c) Click "Prompt for attributes when printing" if you want to be able to change job attributes before printing a document. d) Click OK. 3.) Type values in the Host Name and Host Port fields. Ask your administrator for the host name and port. Usually the port is 515. 4.) Click Refresh Printer Selection List. 5.) Select the name of the printer from the list. Ask your administrator for the name to select. 6.) Click OK. e. Click Next. f. Select a printer driver that is suitable for the printer. To select the AFP Printer Driver for Windows NT, follow these steps after downloading the driver: 1.) Click Have Disk. 2.) Type the path name of the Windows folder that contains the the AFP driver files, and then click OK. 3.) Select the type of printer. If the printer is not on this list, select IBM AFP nnn, where nnn is the resolution of the printer. If you do not know the resolution, select IBM AFP 240. g. Click Next. Note: If the next dialog is a notification that the printer driver already exists, use the default setting "Keep existing driver", and then click Next. h. Keep the default name for the printer or type a meaningful name. This is the name assigned to the Windows printer on your desktop. If you selected the AFP Printer Driver, keep the default name. i. Click either Yes or No to make this printer your default printer. j. For the Share or Not share option, refer to the Microsoft documentation for clarification of this option. Then, click Next. k. Elect to print a test page (optional). l. Click Finish. A new printer icon is displayed in the Printers folder when the Add Printer Wizard has created the new printer. ADDING ANOTHER OS/390 OR z/OS PRINTER AND INFOPRINT PORT TO YOUR WORKSTATION To print to a second OS/390 or z/OS printer, add another printer to your Windows workstation at a second Infoprint port. 1. Follow the steps described in "ADDING AN OS/390 OR Z/OS PRINTER TO YOUR WORKSTATION." At step 3b, when you see a list of available ports, click Add Port. 2. In the Printer Ports window, select Infoprint Port Monitor, and click New Port. 3. In the Infoprint Port window, type a name for the new port, for example Infoprint-2. Use a name that is not used by any other port. Then click OK. 4. In the Printer Ports window, click Cancel. 5. You now return to the Add Printer Wizard. The new port that you just added is already checked. Click Configure Port to continue with step 3c in "ADDING AN OS/390 or z/OS PRINTER TO YOUR WORKSTATION." RECONFIGURING AN INFOPRINT PORT To change port settings, such as separator sheet information, follow these steps: 1. On your Windows desktop, double-click My Computer, and then double-click the Printers folder. 2. Right-click the icon for the printer whose port settings you want to change. From the menu, click Properties. 3. In the Properties notebook, click the Ports tab, and then click Configure Port. 4. In the Infoprint Port Configuration window: a.
