         1.0  INTRODUCTION
 
 
         Page Printing Formatting Aid/370 Version 1 Release 1 Modification 0
       | (PPFA/370) is part of IBM's advance function printing software that
       | enables users to create page definitions and form definitions.
 
         PPFA/370 is executed as a batch program, with the job control
         statements (JCS) to execute PPFA/370 and the commands defining form
         definitions and page definitions being submitted as a job stream.  The
         form-definition and page-definition resources defined by the commands
         are written to a library and the job is finished.
 
         Use of stored form definitions and page definitions in print jobs
         requires Print Services Facility (PSF), an IBM licensed program that
         can merge stored objects with user data files.  (See -- Heading
         'SYREQ' unknown -- for the correct PSF versions).  This creates a data
         stream acceptable to IBM page printers.
 
         1.1  FEATURES
 
         PPFA/370 VSE has no optional features.
 
         1.2  INSTALLATION
 
         Installation of PPFA/370 (CLC A03) replaces and supersedes PPFA (CLC

         An IBM program is identified by a program number and a feature number.
         The program number for PPFA/370 is 5688-190; see -- Table 'BMR'
         unknown -- for the feature number.

         2.1  BASIC MACHINE-READABLE MATERIAL
 
         This program is distributed on a 9-track magnetic tape (written at
         either 1600 or 6250 BPI), a 3480 cartridge, or a 9346 cartridge
         (0.25-inch tape).  The tape or cartridge contains all the programs and
         data needed for installation.  It is installed using the VSE/Maintain
         System History Program (VSE/MSHP).  See -- Heading 'INSTRUC' unknown
         -- for more information about installing the program.  -- Table 'BMR'
         unknown -- describes the tapes or cartridge.  -- Table 'RFT' unknown

         5.2  PROGRAMMING CONSIDERATIONS
 
         The following sections list the programming considerations for
         installing PPFA/370 and activating its functions.
 
         5.2.1  PROGRAM CONSIDERATIONS
 
         There are no program considerations for PPFA/370.
 
         5.2.2  UPGRADING FROM A PRIOR RELEASE OF PPFA
 
         The recommend library and sublibrary for the installation of PPFA/370
         is PRD2.AFP.  If you choose to install PPFA/370 into the sublibrary
         that contains your prior release of PPFA, and your installation has
         customized IBM supplied versions of page definitions or form
         definitions that you wish to save, copy these page definitions and
         form definitions to tape, or to a library other than the one in which
       | you intend to install PPFA/370.  Upon completion of the installation,
         you can restore these saved page definitions and form definitions into
         the sublibrary where you have installed PPFA/370.
 
         Because PPFA/370 replaces and supersedes all previous releases of
         PPFA/VSE, the previous releases should be completely deleted from your
         system.  Not all product members have been shipped with PPFA/370.
         Deletion of the previous product libraries will ensure a correct
         install.  The history file can be updated with the following job.
         (You may have to use the 'RETRACE' MSHP function to obtain the product
         level information).

         The installation samples are provided as I-books and require
         Interactive Computing and Control Facility (ICCF) if you wish to
         utilize them as described.
 
         To use the form definitions and the page definitions generated by
         PPFA/370 requires one of following currently supported releases of
         Print Services Facility (PSF):

         5.2.4  SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
 
         Messages produced by PPFA/370 are issued in English.
 
         5.3  VIRTUAL STORAGE REQUIREMENTS
 
         The virtual storage requirements for PPFA/370 include the following:
 
         ù   Minimum virtual storage size to run an average PPFA job = 256K
 
         ù   Minimum amount of partition GETVIS needed to run an average PPFA
             job = 128K
 
         The total amount of working storage depends on the complexity of form
         definitions and page definitions being produced.  In general, a
         storage size of 64K is sufficient.  The default is 128K.

         6.0  INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
 
 
         The process for installing PPFA/370 utilizes the Maintain System
         History Program (MSHP) and an assumption is made that the person
         installing PPFA/370 is familiar with MSHP.  The install services
         dialog may be utilized for installing PPFA/370
 
         6.1  INSTALLING PPFA/370 USING VSE INTERACTIVE INTERFACE
 
         See the VSE Administration Manual for detailed information on using
         the VSE Interactive Interface.
 
         6.2  INSTALLING PPFA/370 USING VSE/MSHP
 
         Before the installation of PPFA/370 can take place, some library
         preparation work may be necessary.  The recommended library and
         sublibrary for this product is PRD2.AFP.  This name can be changed as
         you like.  The installation of PPFA/370 is divided into three steps:

         There are two Installation Verification Procedures (IVP) shipped that
         contain five members.  The first IVP (set) uses two members and the
         second IVP (set) uses the other three members.  The five members are
         loaded into the production library (see -- Heading 'RELTAP' unknown --
         for description of the members).  Verification of PPFA/370
         installation is complete when the first IVP completes with a return
         code of 0.  If you want to see a printed report using the form
         definitions and the page definition generated, execute the second IVP
         and request a printed output.  The procedure to execute the second IVP
         is given in -- Heading 'SIVP' unknown --.  Print Service Facility
         (PSF) licensed program is necessary to print the results of the second
         set.
 
         6.3.1  VERIFICATION OF PPFA/370 EXECUTION
 
         You can use the parameterized procedure capability of VSE to submit
         the IVP member AKQIVP1.PROC for execution.  This IVP generates form

         If you are using PSF/VSE Version 1.2.0 with a VSE/SP Version 3 or
         Version 4 system, you must build a Printer-Parameter Member (PPM) to
         point to the PPFA/370 page definition, P1AKQP82, and form definition,
         F1AKQF82.  PSF/VSE Version 1.2.0 does not accept the PAGEDEF and
         FORMDEF input from the VSE/POWER *  $$ LST statement.  Once the PPM
         AKQF has been created, you should specify it on the * $$ LST statement
         of AKQIVP2A with the 'FNO=' parameter.  Remove the 'PAGEDEF=' and
         'FORMDEF=' parameters.
 
         PSF/VSE Version 2.1.0 will accept input from the VSE/POWER * $$ LST
         statement for the PAGEDEF and the FORMDEF.  A PPM could still be
         created to point to a default PAGEDEF and FORMDEF.  However, this
