SOURCE: BLD FLASH 9701 SOURCE MATERIAL DATED: 10/97 YEAR 2000 PRINTER READINESS The IBM Printing System Company has completed a Year 2000 readiness review of its hardware products. All our products are either Year 2000 ready as is, or with microcode updates. Details for individual products can be found on the Internet using the IBM Year 2000 database search application. Products requiring specific levels of microcode are given below: o Network Color Printer (NPC): V2.1 or above microcode is required o 3935: Microcode patch v3.23 or above is required o All 3900 AFCCU production printing models (0W1, 0W3, D01/D02, and DW1/DW2): For machines with v6.1xx or below microcode, v6.127 or above is required For machines with v8.1xx microcode, v8.136 or above is required Machines with v8.502 or above require no printer microcode updates (but may require a Basic Operating System update - see the note below). Machines with v7.xxx microcode will need to upgrade to v8.136 or above or v8.502 or above (v8.515 or above recommended) Machines with v8.2xx, v8.3xx or v8.4xx microcode will need to upgrade to v8.502 or above (v8.515 or above recommended) NOTE: In addition to the above printer microcode levels, the AIX Basic Operating System must be at the following levels: For machines with v6.xxx microcode, the BOS level must be OS 1.1.P or above. For machines with v8.xxx microcode, the BOS level must be 4.1.4j or above. o All InfoPrint 4000 production printing models (IS1, IS2, ID1/ID2): Machines with v8.502 or above require no printer microcode updates (but may require a Basic Operating System update - see the note below). Machines with v8.4xx microcode will need to upgrade to v8.502 or above (v8.515 or above recommended) NOTE: In addition to the above printer microcode levels, the AIX Basic Operating System must be 4.1.4j or above. o 3900-DR1/DR2 Machines with v8.2xx microcode will need to upgrade to v8.502 or above (v8.515 or above recommended) Machines with v8.502 or above require no printer microcode updates (but may require a Basic Operating System update - see the note below). Machines with v9.1xx or above are already Year 2000 ready and require no updates to either printer microcode or Basic Operating System level. NOTE: In addition to the above printer microcode levels, the AIX Basic Operating System must be at the following levels: For machines with v8.xxx microcode, the BOS level must be 4.1.4j or above. o InfoPrint 4000-IR1/IR2: All machines are already Year 2000 ready, regardless of microcode or Basic Operating System level. Network Color Printer customers can download Year 2000 ready microcode from the IBM Printing Systems web site at URL http://www.ibm.printers.com/ncputil.html. The file is ibmncp21.exe. Customers with AFCCU printers (3935, 3900, and InfoPrint 4000) can obtain printer microcode and/or Basic Operating System updates using their IBM hardware support channels. The IBM customer engineer can determine both the currently active microcode level and Basic Operating System level under Service Actions on the printer operating console, and then order the appropriate updates (printer microcode, BOS, or both) from their IBM level 2 hardware support.
