SOURCE: BLD FLASH 9702 SOURCE MATERIAL DATED: 4/97 SUPPORT FOR 300 PEL RASTER FONTS ON INFOPRINT 60 (3160-002) The latest level of microcode for the InfoPrint 60 provides support for 300 pel raster fonts, and is available now for existing customers. All new machines shipped from Endicott after 3/21/97 have this support loaded at the plant. This partially fulfills the following statement of direction, which was made when the InfoPrint 60 was announced in September 1996: "IBM will offer the ability to print all data types from 240 or 300 pel jobstreams, including raster fonts and graphics, scaled to 600 dpi resolution on the InfoPrint 60." V3.5 microcode fully supports all data types from 300 pel jobstreams. These datatypes will be scaled to the printer's native 600 dpi resolution by its Advanced Function Common Control Unit (AFCCU). Existing customers can request the new microcode through their hardware service channels. V3.5 microcode is EC D37061B. With this level of microcode, customers will choose between 300/600 mode and the printer's native 600 dpi mode. This selection will be made using a printer configuration option. The 300/600 mode will allow the printer to receive and use 300 dpi raster resources while printing at 600 dpi. While configured to 300/600 mode the printer will not be able to receive and use 600 dpi raster resources. The printer must be reconfigured to 600 dpi mode to use 600 dpi raster resources. When switching between 300/600 and 600 modes, the host operator must drain the printer prior to switching modes, and then restart the printer from the host software after the mode switch has completed on the printer. Detailed operator instructions are supplied with new machines and also with the microcode EC. Customers using PSF/AIX as the print server for an InfoPrint 60 must request and install APAR IX67132 (PTF U449310) to use this support. No software fixes are required for any of the other print servers (MVS, VM, VSE, PSF/400, or PSF/2).
