INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING THE PRINTER FIX ------------------------------------------- These fixes are for PSF/2 2.00 at UR479xx (xx is a number from 23 to 40 depending on language). Hold all DPF and OS/2 print Queues, and make sure the printers are not printing Stop DPF and PSF Direct Shutdown printers to 'INACTIVE' from the PSF/2 Control Panel Shutdown all PSF/2 related windows on the desktop, and make sure that PSF/2 windows are NOT started automatically on bootup Shutdown and reboot system While in the directory where this file is located (where you unpacked the diskettes) type the following command: ALL20 This will install your fix. If you want to save your old files in the \PSF2\OLD\ directory while installing the fix, type the following command: ALL20 +b To get the new fonts for Euro support, copy FONTS.ZIP to another directoy and unpack it. You need them for ASCII printing with the Euro support. Copy the unpacked fonts to where you already have the fonts installed. If yo didn't install the Proprinter Compat fonts, and/or don't intend to use Euro support, you don't need to do this. If this fix is being reapplied, please save the \PSF2\OLD\ files elsewhere BEFORE installing the new UPDATE fix, so you can easily recover, if needed. If you want to backoff UPDATE fixes, copy the backed up files to the directory where you unpacked the diskettes, and run UPDATE again. Shutdown and reboot system NEW INFORMATION --------------- Prior to installation, you should obtain and review the PSF/2 PSP (preventative service planning) Bucket. It provides information that is vital to any PSF/2 installation. Also, it will be the means for communicating the most current information about PSF/2, i.e. new function, etc. The PSP Bucket can be obtained in the following ways: 1) There is an FTP Server available now for obtaining service updates from the internet. ftp.software.ibm.com is the host name, and the directory you need to go to is /printers/products/psfos2. Look for file psfos2v2.txt in the /buckets sub-directory. Service files are in the /service sub-directory. The FTP Server can also be accessed via the PSF for OS/2 Homepage at http://www.printers.ibm.com/prodserv.html (All service for Personal Systems products, like CM/2 and DB2/2, are on this same server in the /ps/products directory.) 2) Call IBM Software Support (USA 1-800-237-5511). Have your IBM customer number ready. Provide the calltaker with your fax number and request the PSP Bucket for PSF/2. Unless you specify otherwise, you will receive the fax and no return call will be necessary. APAR LIST --------- IR36747 (11/04/97) DECLINE8 trap on images with large line size. Running out of buffer space. IR36765 (11/05/97) Loading wrong ppr size in PCL5 mode when Ledger is selected. IR36834 (11/17/97) RSTK trapD during termination, CSLIM = E71D, IP = C499. IR36881 (11/21/97) trapD's associated with pj_info_p variable IR36878 (11/21/97) DECLINE8 trap on images that shift from compressed to decompressed right in the middle of the image without any warning IR36910 (12/01/97) IPDS to PCL uses bin ID to determine if media is Envelope, should not do that IR37331 (02/12/98) PMAFP driver does not allow helps if job dialoge is invoked automatically and drag and drop of file is done. IR37684 (03/02/98) Postscript L1 does not handle image output correctly from Generic PS driver (OS/2 driver). No APAR (04/22/98) Added more traces for 'AINHYPER.DLL'. No APAR (05/01/98) Added trace for 'PSF2DEV.EXE' (no trace before). IR37837 (05/01/98) Intervention Timer was taking 999 as Infinite instead of 9999 (as stated in our helps and documentation). IR37873 (05/06/98) Fixed TCP/IP problem with handling bad message and overrun buffer during startup. IR38745 (09/22/98) When a Character Set has a rotation specified in its name, and it is called out in a Coded Font, then the name has to be changed to a neutral name to be located in the Resource Library. IR38747 (09/23/98) Ported image fixes from PSF/AIX. IR39200 (11/18/98) Changed (added) function that DPF removes from STM and OPC. No APAR (11/20/98) Changed messages issued by PSF/2 when a connect timeout occurs (trying to establish session with printer) with a TCP/IP connection. Also enhanced tracing in this area. See IR39200 above (12/02/98) Changed (added more) function that DPF removes from OPC. No APAR (12/02/98) Added in utility to allow recreation of Databases if they have to be deleted due to corruption. This will get around having to reinstall PSF/2 to get the databases recreated. DB2RINST.CMD, no parameters needed. No APAR (12/15/98) Added in Euro fonts for Printer Resident Font tables. Added in PCL transform for handling Euro fonts. Also added in new Proprinter Fonts for ASCII printing. PostScript needs new fonts, but these are not yet available and will be shipped on AFP Font Collection. All other fonts are shipped on AFP Font Collection as well. IR39547 (01/05/99) Added in check for old architecture Page Segment positioning field that was removed from the architecture, but was still being used by some customers. xxxxxxx (02/12/99) Added in attempted workaround for primary process crash where secondary is still present. See IR39200 above (2/18/99) Changed (added more) function that DPF removes from STM and OPC. IR40629 (06/22/99) DPF had a problem with running out of Page Segment ID's. MVS did some error recovery that DPF should have been able to handle, and it led to a hang in when trying to print the job. IR41591 (11/2/99) When searching a GRP file for a resource, the compare was case sensitive, and it shouldn't be since the rest of PSF/2 resource handling was NOT case sensitive. IR41717 (11/18/99) An overflow of the font buffers happens in the GUI's if OS/2 has more than 110 fonts installed in the system for displaying. You need to call service and get the language specific fixes to obtain this fix. IR41767 (12/01/99) The STM does not have the LF2 and LF3 fields removed as they need to be. This can cause a PSF/MVS abend. IR42150 (01/25/00) Disable IM1 conversion to IOCA when then image resolution is evenly dividable by the printer resolution. IR42581 (03/16/00) The IPO and IPS Modca commands don't accept -1 values for the positioning fields. We are required to support this since MVS generates them. IR43527 (07/21/00) ASCII Init String Page Size commands aren't being processed before the page size for the first page in the job is selected in the Converter. This means that the first page is always letter in size without the fix. With the fix, we do process the Page Size command before setting the page size for the first page in the job.
