SOURCE: BLD FLASH 9707 SOURCE MATERIAL DATED: 8/97 PSF PTFS FOR 3900 AFCCU MICROCODE UPGRADE & INFOPRINT 4000 PTFs are required to PSF/MVS 2.2, PSF/MVS 2.1.x, and PSF/VSE 2.2 when upgrading 3900 AFCCU microcode to version 8.4 or higher, and when upgrading a 3900 AFCCU printer to an InfoPrint 4000 printer (which requires level 8.4 or higher microcode). New function in 8.4 level microcode changed a response field checked by PSF/MVS and PSF/VSE. This unexpected response causes PSF without maintenance to ABEND (024, RC 023) when the printer is initialized. The maintenance is provided with PSF/MVS 2.2 APAR OW18369, PSF/MVS 2.1.x APAR OW26041, and PSF/VSE 2.2 APAR DY44429. PSFs on other platforms do not verify this field, so are not affected by the changed response. An upgrade from a 3900 AFCCU printer to an InfoPrint 4000 may also call for a change to IOCP. If the 3900 printer is defined to MVS as device type "AFP1", no change is needed. However if it is defined as device type "3900" then after upgrade to an InfoPrint 4000, a warning message will be issued every time the printer is varied online. This will not prevent printing, but will become annoying. Eventually you will want to change the device type to "AFP1" or to "4000". PSF/MVS APAR OW22965 is needed to define the printer to HCD as "4000". There are additional APARs as well that fix specific problems your customer may encounter, so the best advice is to get your 3900 AFCCU and InfoPrint 4000 customers up to the latest PSF level of maintenance. And ALWAYS CHECK THE PSP BUCKETS when planning for the installation or upgrade of a printer.
