************************************************************************

* IBM CICS Client for DOS - README v2.0.4 *

************************************************************************

This file contains important information about the IBM CICS Client for

DOS that may not be available in the printed documentation.

Summary of Topics

-----------------

   - Service Issues

   - Installation

   - Codepage conversion and Euro support

   - Problem Fixes - Fix Pack 06

   - Problem Fixes - Fix Pack 07

   - Problem Fixes - Fix Pack 08

Service Issues

--------------

Customers should be aware that the latest IBM products for accessing CICS

from desktop and Internet environments are the CICS Universal Clients

Version 3 and the CICS Transaction Gateway Version 3. The CICS Universal

Clients Version 3 are developed from the CICS Clients Version 2. The CICS

Transaction Gateway Version 3 incorporates the function of the CICS

Internet Gateway and the CICS Gateway for Java. All fixes which are in

CICS Clients Version 2 CSD 8 are in Version 3.0.2 of the corresponding

CICS Universal Clients and CICS Transaction Gateway.

Customers who want to use functions which are not supported by CICS

Universal Clients V3 and CICS Transaction Gateway V3, such as support for

the DOS and Windows 3.1 platforms, should continue to use CICS Clients

Version 2. All other customers are recommended to migrate to the Version 3

products.

In future, it is intended to provide new Service Levels on the Version 3

codebase only. Customers are recommended to migrate to the CICS Universal

Clients Version 3.

Note:

  - The migration to Version 3.0 is usually as easy as applying service

    to Version 2 .

  - Version 3 offers increased function and integrity.

  - Version 2 is still supported.

Installation

------------

The installation program for the CICS Client for DOS must be invoked

from the root directory of a disk drive, it will not operate correctly

if invoked from a subdirectory.

If you wish to install the client from a LAN attached drive you will

need to copy all the files from the install diskette to the root

directory of the LAN drive.

Codepage conversion and Euro support

------------------------------------

The following new parameter can be used in the Client Section of

CICSCLI.INI.

See the file CODEPAGE.TXT for more information on Data Conversion between

the CICS Client and Server. Refer to your CICS Server documentation for

configuration changes required to provide Euro symbol support.

Please note that if you use the following parameter to change the codepage

identifier used, data which was stored previously in the server may be

modified when retrieved to the client if it includes characters for which

the code points produce different characters.

CCSID=nnnnn This parameter can be used on all Client platforms to overide

the codepage identifier used. If the platform has been updated

for Euro support, and the CICS Server has Euro support,

the appropriate identifier can be given.

For Latin-1 countries, use CCSID=858 to indicate that the 850

                codepage includes Euro support.

Note that cicsterm will always display characters based on the

local codepage of the workstation, whatever the value specified

                in the CCSID Parameter.

The Client trace includes data flow in hexadecimal and character formats.

The characters displayed are only invariant ones (i.e. in all codesets).

The Euro symbol is hex 80 in 1252 and hex D5 in 850. These values will be

displayed in the hexadecimal data flow, but will not show as the Euro symbol

in the character format.
