Subject: Customer support for CMVC Date last updated: 15-Nov-1999 VM File Name: EXT-SUPT.NOTES The most up-to-date version of this document is located in: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/cmvc/README.customer.support.txt This note summarizes the available information about the Year 2000 readiness topic with respect to CMVC. Of critical importance are the Year 2000 patches for SCCS that are absolutely needed by CMVC (see item d). Since 12/31/1998, we are not supporting anymore CMVC 2.3.0 (and of course, previous versions of CMVC such as 2.2) because they are not Year 2000 ready: they use only 2 digits to represent the year information. Also, we are not supporting anymore those platforms which are no longer supported by the respective software companies, such as AIX 3.2.5, AIX 4.1, HP-UX 9, Solaris 2.3, SunOS 4.1.x and Windows 3.1. By the same token, we do not support those obsolete database management systems, such as DB2 V1, DB2 V2, Oracle 7.1, Oracle 7.2 and Oracle 7.3.3. The ONLY supported version of CMVC is 2.3.1.x which is Year 2000 ready because it uses 4 digits to represent the year. a) The announcement letter 999-222 in July 20, 1999, mentions the withdrawal of CMVC V2 from marketing in October 1999, and from support in February 1, 2001. b) The ftp site for CMVC, which contains the latest code and a wealth of information is: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/cmvc/ You can use user id "anonymous" and provide your email as password. c) For more details on the supported combinations of platforms and database systems for CMVC 2.3.1, see: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/cmvc/README.supported.combinations.txt d) For more information about CMVC and the requisites for being Year 2000 ready (includes references to the necessary patches for SCCS for the operating systems), see: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/cmvc/README.year2000.txt NOTE: It is CRITICAL that customers MUST installed required patches to their operating systems in order for SCCS to work properly with the Year 2000. If in January 2000, customers call to complain that they cannot checkout/checkin files, then do not waste any time in debugging, tell the customer to apply the patches mentioned in the above document ASAP! e) For more information about CMVC and the implementation changes and the testing that was done to verify the Year 2000 readiness, see: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/cmvc/README.year2000.details.txt f) The full refresh of the latest CMVC code (2.3.1.4) for all supported platforms see the following: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/cmvc/PLATFORM/231 Where PLATFORM is: aix4, hpux10, solaris g) There are many technical reports for CMVC which are available in the following subdirectory and the following file contains the index of them: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/cmvc/doc/tr/README.index.txt h) A technical report that describes how to perform most of the migration tasks, such as moving from one host (such as from an old AIX 3) to another (such as to a new AIX 4), upgrading from 2.3.0 to 2.3.1, etc: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/cmvc/doc/tr/trcmfmig.pdf (or trcmfmig.txt for a plain text version) i) A set of migration tools that are referenced in the above technical report: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/cmvc/doc/tr/migtools.tar.Z j) For technical support issues (reporting problems and how-to questions), please call 1-800-CALL-AIX (225-5249), which will let the customer know how to get a technical support contract in order to submit problem reports (PMRs). There are support offerings available after purchasing CMVC. * If you live within the U.S.A., call any of the following numbers: 1-800-237-5511 to learn about available service options. 1-800-IBM-CALL (1-800-426-2255) to order products or get general information. 1-800-879-2755 to order publications. * Contacting IBM outside of the United States For information on how to contact IBM outside of the United States, see Appendix A of the IBM Software Support Handbook, which can be located by selecting the "Service Offering" item at: http://www.ibm.com/support. Note: In some countries, IBM-authorized dealers should contact their dealer support structure instead of the IBM Support Center. k) Although we do not have a dedicated public newsgroup for CMVC in the Internet, customers can post CMVC related questions in the following public newsgroup about VisualAge TeamConnection, the successor product for CMVC. It is highly recommended that the subject line should begin with "CMVC: " to alert the participants of the newsgroup that the append is not related to TeamConnection, but to CMVC: news://news.software.ibm.com/ibm.software.teamcon l) Customers can get a CD-ROM that can be ordered via a PTF (via a PMR) that has all the CMVC 2.3.1.4 for all platforms. In that way, the customers that do not have access to the internet could get the latest CMVC 2.3.1 code. PTF# is U464367 and the APAR is IX89489. m) IBM INTRANET ONLY: for IBMers, there is a wealth of information about CMVC 2.3 in the IBM intranet. * The home page for CMVC 2.3 is: http://tc-cmvc.raleigh.ibm.com/cmvc * CMVC forums in VM: there are many CMVC users who follow these forums, and they are very good at answering questions. Please, try to follow these forums and try to become familiar with them: CMVC in IBMPC (mostly for client questions) CMVC6000 in IBMUNIX (mostly for server questions) *** end of note ***
