Subject: Matrix of supported combinations for CMVC Filename VM: CMSUPCOM.NOTES Filename other: README.supported.combinations.txt Date last updated: 15-Nov-1999 The most up to date version of this file can be found in our ftp site: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/cmvc/README.supported.combinations.txt MATRIX OF SUPPORTED COMBINATIONS OF CMVC BY RELEASES, PLATFORMS AND DATABASES CMVC andVisualAge TeamConnection Development IBM Software Solutions CUSTOMER SUPPORT ---------------- * The announcement letter 999-222 released in July 20, 1999, mentions the withdrawal of CMVC Version 2 from marketing as of October 1999, and from support as of February 1, 2001. * This means that between now and January 31, 2001, CMVC is in maintenance mode, and only high severity/high impact defects will be considered for fixing in upcoming refreshes. No new features (such as porting to newer versions of operating systems and/or DBMSs) will be considered for implementation. * CMVC 2.3.1 is the ONLY supported release of CMVC (until 31-Jan-2001). * The most up-to-date refresh of CMVC is: 2.3.1.5 (late 1999). * CMVC 2.3.0 is no longer supported since 31-Dec-1998. CMVC - MATRIX OF SUPPORTED COMBINATIONS _______________________________________ CMVC 2.3.0 is the release that is not Year 2000 compliant because it uses only 2 digits to represent the years. CMVC 2.3.0 is no longer supported since 31-Dec-1998. CMVC 2.3.1 is the release that is Year 2000 compliant because it uses 4 digits to represent the years. The port of CMVC 2.3.1 was done only to the latest applicable platforms and databases. CMVC 2.3.1 is the ONLY supported release of CMVC. The CMVC 2.3.1 code and documentation can be downloaded as user "anonymous" from: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/cmvc NOTES: 1. The port from 2.3.0 to 2.3.1 affected mainly the server code. There are few cosmetic changes to the client and GUI for UNIX but the compatibility is NOT broken: that is: a) A CMVC 2.3.0 client can interact with a CMVC 2.3.1 server. b) A CMVC 2.3.1 client can interact with a CMVC 2.3.0 server. 2. The OS/2 and Windows 32-bit may need minor adjustments in the help, but the 2.3.0 client in these platforms works fine with a 2.3.1 server (although a formal system test has not been performed). 3. CMVC 2.3.1 (Year 2000 ready) is the only version that is currently supported. The old CMVC 2.3.0 version is no longer supported since 31-Dec-1998. 4. The following list shows the operating systems that are no longer supported in CMVC 2.3.1, mostly because these operating systems are no longer supported by the respective software development company: * AIX 3.2.5 (out of support since 12/31/1997) * AIX 4.1 (out of support since 12/31/1998) * HP-UX 9 * SunOS 4.1.x (we encourage SunOS users to migrate to Solaris) * Solaris 2.3 5. The following list shows the database management systems (DBMS) that are no longer supported by the respective software development company. * DB2 V1 and V2 (out of support since 12/31/1998) * Oracle 7.1, 7.2 and 7.3.3 (out of support since 12/31/1998) NOTE: CMVC 2.3.1 for AIX 3.2.5 for Oracle 7.0/7.1/7.2 is available ONLY to customers who have a special document-of-understanding (DOU) with IBM, because AIX 3 was officially discontinued from service in December 1997. This support is only for migration purposes and not for production. CMVC SERVER 2.3.1 _________________ General notes: * "obsolete" means that the DBMS is no longer supported by the respective software development company. Until further notice, CMVC is still providing support for these versions; however, if there are problems with the actual DBMS, then CMVC will cease to support these versions. Furthermore, we do not guarantee that we will keep always available the build environment in our site to generate the CMVC code for this obsolete combination. * "unqualified" means that either we have not tested it but we think that it may work, or that we have conducted a quick small test and it ran fine. Nevertheless, this means that still we do NOT support this combination and any usage of CMVC using this combination is at your own risk, and if there are any problems, then we will change the status from "unqualified" to "not supported". The first column of the following table represents the database that is supported by the CMVC server on the operating systems. +----------------+-----------------+-----------------+----------------+ | CMVC 2.3.1 Server - Matrix of supported combinations | +----------------+-----------------+-----------------+----------------+ | DESCRIPTION | AIX | SOLARIS | HP-UX | +----------------+-----------------+-----------------+----------------+ | DB2 V2 | obsolete | no | no | +----------------+-----------------+-----------------+----------------+ | DB2 UDB 5.0 | obsolete | no | no | +----------------+-----------------+-----------------+----------------+ | DB2 UDB 5.2 | Y (4.2.1) | no | no | | Fixpak 8 | Y (4.3.2) | no | no | +----------------+-----------------+-----------------+----------------+ | DB2 UDB 6.0 | unqualified | no | no | +----------------+-----------------+-----------------+----------------+ | Oracle 7.1 | obsolete | obsolete | obsolete | +----------------+-----------------+-----------------+----------------+ | Oracle 7.2 | obsolete | obsolete | obsolete | +----------------+-----------------+-----------------+----------------+ | Oracle 7.3.3 | obsolete | obsolete | obsolete | +----------------+-----------------+-----------------+----------------+ | Oracle 7.3.4 | Y (4.2.1) | Y (2.5.1) | Y (10.20) | | | Y (4.3.2) | unqualified 2.6 | | | | | unqualified 7 | | +----------------+-----------------+-----------------+----------------+ | Oracle 8 | no | no | no | +----------------+-----------------+-----------------+----------------+ | Informix 7.1 | obsolete | no | obsolete | +----------------+-----------------+-----------------+----------------+ | Informix 7.2 | Y (4.2.1) | no | unqualif 10.20 | | |unqualified 4.3 | | unqualif 11.00 | +----------------+-----------------+-----------------+----------------+ | Informix 7.3 | unqualified | no | Y (10.20) | | | | | unqualif 11.00 | +----------------+-----------------+-----------------+----------------+ | Sybase 4.9 | no | obsolete | no | +----------------+-----------------+-----------------+----------------+ | Sybase 10 | no | obsolete | no | +----------------+-----------------+-----------------+----------------+ | Sybase 11 | no | Y (2.5.1, 2.6) | no | | | | unqualified 7 | | +----------------+-----------------+-----------------+----------------+ Notes for the server CMVC 2.3.1: * The Oracle 7.3.4 code needs to have some symbolic links in HP-UX and Solaris. See /usr/lpp/cmvc/doc/README.pubs for details. * The Sybase code for Solaris is compiled with version 4.9. * A quick test of the CMVC server for Informix code on HP-UX 11.00 ran fine, thus the label "unqualified". However, HP-UX 11.00 is NOT a supported combination. CMVC CLIENT 2.3.1 _________________ The first column of the following table represents the operating system that is officially supported by the CMVC client. +-------------------------------------------------------------------+ | CMVC 2.3.1 Client - Matrix of officially supported combinations | +----------------------+----------------------+---------------------+ | DESCRIPTION | COMMAND LINE | GUI | | | | | +----------------------+----------------------+---------------------+ | AIX 4.1 | obsolete | obsolete | | AIX 4.2.1 | Y | Y | | AIX 4.3.1 | Y | Y | | AIX 4.3.2 | Y | Y | +----------------------+----------------------+---------------------+ | Solaris 2.4 | Y | Y | | Solaris 2.5.1 | Y | Y-1 | | Solaris 2.6 | Y | Y-1 | | Solaris 7 | unqualified | unqualified | +----------------------+----------------------+---------------------+ | HP-UX 10.01 | Y | Y | | HP-UX 10.20 | Y | Y | | HP-UX 11.00 | unqualified | unqualified | +----------------------+----------------------+---------------------+ | OS/2 | Y-2 | Y-2 | +----------------------+----------------------+---------------------+ | Windows 3.1 | no | obsolete | +----------------------+----------------------+---------------------+ | Windows 95 | Y-3 | Y-3 | | Windows 98 | unqualified | unqualified | +----------------------+----------------------+---------------------+ | Windows NT 3.51 | no | no | | Windows NT 4 | Y-3 | Y-3 | | Windows 2000 | unqualified | unqualified | +----------------------+----------------------+---------------------+ Notes for the client CMVC 2.3.1: * "Y-1" means that the GUI for Solaris was build on Solaris 2.4, but when running under Solaris 2.5.1 or 2.6, there is a warning from the Motif system when a CMVC window is displayed. You can safely ignore this warning, which does not affect the function of the CMVC GUI. This problem is due to the major changes that the Motif subsystem suffered when going from Solaris 2.4 to 2.5.1. It is recommended that you iconify the window from where you started the CMVC GUI in order to avoid seeing these X-tool-kit warnings. * "Y-2" means that the code for the OS/2 client is at the level 2.3.0.18 and there are no plans to provide an updated version. This version of the code is compatible with a CMVC 2.3.1.x server. * "Y-3" means that the code for the Windows client is at the level 2.3.1.1 and there are no plans to provide an updated version. This version of the code is compatible with a CMVC 2.3.1.x server. * A quick test of the CMVC client on HP-UX 11.00 ran fine, thus the label "unqualified". However, HP-UX 11.00 is NOT a supported combination. *** end of file ***
