Partition Profiles: An Overview

A partition profile defines the set of resources that you would like a partition to be activated with. You can create more than one profile per partition, but you can activate using only one profile per partition at a time.

When you create a partition profile, the HMC shows you all the resources available on your managed system. The HMC does not, however, check to see if another partition profile is using a portion of these resources. For example, the HMC might show 16 processors on your machine, but will not notify you that other partitions are using nine of them. You can conceiveably create two partition profiles, each using a majority of system resources. If you attempt to activate both of these partitions at the same time, the second partiton in the activation list will fail. It is your responsibility to keep track of the resources you have assigned.
