Recovering Partition Data

The option to recover partition data is only available when HMC partition profile information has been cleared or corrupted and the managed system is in the Recovery state. The Recover Partition Data option corrects this problem by either recovering partition data from a backup file or initializing the system.

In order for partition data to be recovered, the managed system must be powered on to Partition Standby mode. If your managed system is in Full System Partition mode when you attempt to recover partition data, the HMC will power off and power back on to Partition Standby mode, and then partition data will be recovered.

To recover partition data, you must be a member of one of the following roles:

To recover partition data, do the following:

  1. In the Contents area, select the managed system.
  2. From the menu, choose Selected.
  3. From the menu, select Recover Partition Data.
  4. Select one of the following recovery options:

    Restore Profile Data from HMC Backup Data - Profile data is restored from the system-created backup file.

    Initialize the Machine - All partition, profile, and system profile information will be removed, and the HMC will be returned to its original state.
  5. Click OK.
