Creating an ESSBASE.CFG Server File
If you want to customize your Hyperion Essbase configuration, create
a file on the server called ESSBASE.CFG (see "To create an
ESSBASE.CFG File," below). Settings specified in ESSBASE.CFG
override the Hyperion Essbase defaults and apply to all databases within
all applications in the server.
Notes:
- Some ESSBASE.CFG settings are no longer used in Release 6, except for migration purposes. When you migrate from Release 4 to Release 6, Hyperion Essbase uses ESSBASE.CFG values for initial settings. However, to change certain settings, you must use either the Application Manager settings dialog boxes or ESSCMD. The settings no longer used in Release 6 are so indicated in the text for the individual setting.
- Some of these settings affect performance. Before you override
Hyperion Essbase defaults, see the information on performance optimization
and storage settings in the Hyperion Essbase Database Administrator's Guide.
- If you change any ESSBASE.CFG values while running Hyperion Essbase,
the changes will not take effect until you stop and restart the
server.
- ESSBASE.CFG values apply to all databases within all your
applications; the values are not application-specific.
- Hyperion Essbase uses the keywords and their unparsed values that comprise
ESSBASE.CFG "as is." Hyperion Essbase performs no check routines
on the file.
- You can override many ESSBASE.CFG values on a per-database
basis by using the SetDbState command in ESSCMD or through
the Database Settings dialog box in Application Manager.
Stop and restart the database to apply the overriding values.
To create an ESSBASE.CFG File
Using an editing program, create a file named ESSBASE.CFG (essbase.cfg
on UNIX platforms) in your ARBORPATH \BIN directory, and include
one setting on each line.
Example of ESSBASE.CFG File Entries:
SSPROCROWLIMIT 20000
LOCKTIMEOUT 1200
