PASW Statistics 18 Beta Release Notes June 8, 2009 SERVER Improved Server Performance (Cache Compression) * If you intend to test Improved Server Performance at your site, please install the PASW Statistics 18 Server as usual, then download and apply the "Application Update" from the Server Beta download site. (Internal reference 00120437.) GENERAL New Nonparametric Tests (NPTESTS) * The PASW Statistics 18 Beta introduces new nonparametric tests, which provide a new user interface and Model Viewer output. If you use the Marginal Homogeneity test with Weighted data, you may get an error message instead of the expected output. Please avoid requesting Marginal Homogeneity with weighted data during the Beta test. (Internal reference 00119939.) Copy and Paste * If you would like to copy charts with transparency and paste them as PNG images, please do the following: - Create a new file viewer_copy.ini file in the PASW Statistics Beta installation directory. 1. Change to the PASW Statistics Beta installation directory. 2. Use a text editor to create a new file named viewer_copy.ini. 3. Edit the file so that it contains the following lines ; Raster images with transparency support TRANSPARENT_IMAGES = true 4. Save the file. 5. Copy and paste charts as usual, using Paste Special to select the PNG format. When you copy and paste charts with transparency turned on, the background may be black when you expect it to be transparent. If this occurs, please try to work around the problem by any one of the following methods: - In the target application, select Paste Special and choose PNG or EMF if you can, or - Export the chart to PNG and import the image into the target application. (Internal reference 00118610.) PLS * PLS is a Python extension command that is available from SPSS Developer Central. It is not currently compatible with the PASW Statistics or Developer Beta. This cannot be fixed until a new version of SciPy is available from the Python site. (Internal reference 00119150.) Uninstalling PASW Statistics 18 Beta * Depending on what you installed to test the Beta, you may need to remove more than one item to completely remove the Beta. After you are finished testing the Beta, check for the following items on your system and remove them: - PASW Statistics 18 Beta or PASW Statistics 18 Developer - AMOS 18 Beta - SmartReader 18 Beta - Help Language Packs, for languages other than English - PASW Statistics R Essentials - PASW Statistics-R Integration Plug-in - PASW Statistics-Python Integration Plug-in - R Application - Python Application - Remove the Beta installation directory to remove the R Examples WINDOWS ALL Export * On all Windows OSs you might get a message, "PowerPoint must be installed." when you attempt to export output. If you encounter this problem, please report it to us. (Internal reference 00120542.) Installing R Essentials * Install R Essentials after you install PASW Statistics or Developer Beta. The R Essentials installer installs everything you need to work with R including: - R Application - PASW Statistics-R Plug-in - PASW Statistics R Examples Please do not manually close the Command Windows that appear towards the end of the installation. VISTA ONLY Export and Script * On the 64-bit edition of Windows Vista you might experience a problem when trying to Export output or create a new Script. If you do, please try to work around the problem by using the Regsvr32 tool (Regsvr32.exe) to register a dll: 1. Open a Command window and change to the C:\Program Files\Common Files\SPSS directory, or to the location in which you installed PASW Statistics 18 Beta. 2. Enter the following command C:\> regsvr32 spsswin.dll: (Internal reference 00120194.) MAC OS ONLY ODBC Data Access * On Mac OS X, the Actual Technologies drivers for ODBC are 32 bit only and do not support the PASW Statistics 18 Beta running in 64 bit mode. Please avoid using ODBC in 64 bit mode on Mac OS X during the Beta test. (Internal reference 00120143.) SAV V9+ Data Access * On the Mac OS, you cannot open SAS Version 9 Compressed Binary Format data files. Please avoid opening SAS version 9 files on the Mac OS during the Beta test. (Internal reference 00120153.) Startup * On the Mac OS you might experience a problem re-starting the application. If you do, please try to work around the problem by using the touch command on the app bundle: 1. From the Terminal application, change to /Applications/SPSSInc/PASWStatistics18/ folder, or to the location in which you installed PASW Statistics 18 Beta. 2. Enter the following command: $ sudo touch /Applications/SPSSInc/PASWStatistics18/PASWStatistics18.0.app 3. Try starting PASW Statistics 18 Beta again. (Internal reference 00118761.) Licensing * On the Mac OS you might experience a problem if you install the Beta Developer application and then try to license it as the Beta Statistics application. If you want to Beta test both Statistics and Developer, be sure to remove one application before installing and licensing the other application. (Internal reference 00120141.)
