There is a choice of network protocols for connecting to CICS®.
Note: In these descriptions, the terms
"local mode" and
"remote
mode" refer to whether the connection between Client application
and Gateway uses a network connection. See the related topics for
more information on running in
local mode or
remote mode.
All protocols support ECI COMMAREA requests.
- IPIC
- This protocol is required for ECI channel requests and supports
ESI requests. The protocol also supports two phase commit transactions
in local mode. SSL can be configured on IPIC connections in a local
mode configuration. IPIC also supports the offload of work to a zSeries®
Application Assist Processor (zAAP).
- SNA
- This protocol is required for sending EPI to CICS TS servers and supports ESI requests.
- TCP/IP
- This protocol is required for sending EPI requests to TXSeries
servers.
