  1. For brevity, in this section, the terms CICS® Transaction Server for z/OS® and CICS TS z/OS are used to mean all the following CICS products:
    • Start of changeCICS Transaction Server for z/OS Version 3 Release 1End of change
    • CICS Transaction Server for z/OS, Version 2 Release 3
    • CICS Transaction Server for z/OS, Version 2 Release 2
    • CICS Transaction Server for OS/390, Version 1 Release 3
  2. In this section, the terms "unit of work" and "UOW" mean a local unit of work--that is, that part of a distributed unit of work that relates to resources on the local system.

    The system programming and CEMT commands and the CICS messages described later in the section return information about local UOWs.

    Where a distributed unit of work is meant, the term is used explicitly.

This section introduces a number of new terms, such as in-doubt, initiator, agent, coordinator, subordinate, shunted, and resynchronization. These terms are explained as they occur in the text, with examples. You may also find it useful to refer to the CICS glossary.
