By default, intending users of CICS see the CICS "good-morning" panel
displayed when they logon to CICS as a VTAM application (see Figure 188).

This panel is displayed by the CICS-supplied transaction, CSGM. Instead
of using CSGM, you can specify your own transaction panel on the GMTRAN system
initialization parameter.
Users may either press the CLEAR key and type the CICS sign-on transaction
id, CESN or, if CESN is specified as the good-morning transaction, CICS displays
the sign-on panel shown in Figure 189.
The user ID specified for this transaction is used in error messages and
so on, to identify the user.
Notes:
- If you sign on at a terminal that is already signed on, CSSN signs off
the previous operator. This does not happen, however, unless you complete
the CESN panel before pressing ENTER. For further information, see Signing off with CESN.
- For numeric-only devices or for the IBM 2741 Communication Terminal, use
the signon procedure described in Non-3270 family terminal.
Userids and passwords specified in the CESN transaction are translated
to uppercase, ignoring the setting of the UCTRAN attribute. However, if support
for mixed case passwords is active in the external security manager,
CICS saves the value of the UCTRAN option and temporarily sets it to UCTRAN(NO)
while the user is prompted to enter a userid and password. CESN then uppercases
the userid but leaves the password in the case entered by the user. When the
CESN transaction completes, the UCTRAN attribute is restored to its original
value. If the user disconnects from the terminal before the CESN transaction
has completed, the terminal might be left with the UCTRAN(NO) attribute set.
- Autoinstall of BMS maps is not carried out within the CESN transaction.
When CESN tries to send out any BMS map that is not installed, CESN will
send out the English BMS map.
- This dialog will not prompt you for a new password unless your old password
has expired. If you wish to change your password before it has expired, you
must use another method, such as signing on at a CICS terminal rather than
a console.
