This learning path provides an overview of channels, the modern-day alternative to traditional CICS COMMAREAs. Primary audience: CICS application programmers.
Welcome to the channels learning path. This path provides you with an introduction to channels and containers. It includes topics on what channels and containers are, how you can design and use them in your programs, and a summary with links to further reading. There are also a variety of examples that demonstrate key points. It assumes that you are familiar with the CICS application programming interface (API) and have some experience of creating CICS applications in one or more of the CICS-supported languages.
Read through each topic in order, using the navigation at the end of each topic. Some topics contain links to related information; these enable you to leave the learning path to find out more about particular aspects of channels. To go directly to a particular topic in the learning path, use the navigation in the Contents panel.
