Performance Management challenges and opportunity
Production and distribution present unique performance management challenges. Both functions must be able to respond quickly to changes in current and forecasted customer demand. Inventories must be managed, resources allocated, and material needs assessed. Since commodities or manufactured goods may be moved several times between producer and consumer, the most efficient and cost-effective transport mechanisms must be identified and utilized. And finally, the overall quality of production and distribution functions must constantly be monitored and evaluated.
