Optimization Library Installation

For Linux

This page gives instructions for two different installation procedures: Basic Try-and-Buy Installation, and Production License Installation. The simplest method of installation is the Basic Try-and-Buy Installation method, which requires no root password. To install a Production License (or permanent license) you will need to follow the steps for the Production License Installation.

This product is built on RedHat V6.2

Basic Try-and-Buy Installation

The root password for your workstation is not needed for installation by this method. To install the Optimization Library, follow these steps:

  1. Download the osllib.linux.tar package from the website.
  2. Move the osllib.linux.tar file to a directory (typically your home directory) where you wish to install the osllib package. In this directory, the installation process will create a new directory called osllib, which will contain the program files.
  3. Untar the file using the following command:
    tar -xvf osllib.linux.tar
  4. This results in the creation of two files: osllib.tar and unix_install .
  5. Now type:
    unix_install osllib trybuy

The installation process creates a shell script called run.osllib in the ./osllib directory. This shell script is a flat file, so you may edit it to see how to run OSL. Or you may simply type:

./osllib/run.osllib

Production License Installation

To install a production licence for the Optimization Library, you will first need to order a product package following the instructions from the web site. In the mail, you will receive a product package with a letter containing two enabling keys. The letter refers to two separate items that must be downloaded, the "Try and Buy" version and the "Production License" installation program. These two downloads are, in reality, the same download for the Linux platform. So you need only to download the osllib.linux.tar file to do either a Try-and-Buy installation or a Production installation.

The method described here for production license installation involves modifying files belonging to root. For that reason, you must have access to the root password for your workstation.

In addition, you must follow the intructions above for the installation of the trybuy license.

To install the production license for the Optimization Library, follow these steps:

  1. Download the osllib.linux.tar package from the website.
  2. Move the osllib.linux.tar file to a directory where you wish to install the osllib package. In this directory, the installation process will create a new directory called osllib, which will contain the program files.
  3. Untar the file using the following command:
    tar -xvf osllib.linux.tar
  4. This results in the creation of two files: osllib.tar and unix_install .
  5. Now type:
    unix_install osllib product Customer_Key Product_Key
to enable the production license. The Customer_Key and Product_Key fields are given on the product package letter.

The installation process creates a shell script called run.osllib in the ./osllib directory. This shell script is a flat file, so you may edit it to see how to run OSL. Or you may simply type:

./osllib/run.osllib
