Migrating to WebSphere MQ Version 6.0

This topic describes how to migrate from previous versions of WebSphere® MQ to WebSphere MQ Version 6.0. For additional information about migrating to WebSphere MQ Version 6.0, including information on migrating Secure Socket Layer (SSL) connections and using Internet Protocol version 4 and Internet Protocol version 6, see the WebSphere MQ Migration Information.

If you migrate from a previous level of this product, you cannot revert to your previous level, so back up your system before you install WebSphere MQ Version 6.0. This will enable you to back off the upgrade if necessary. If you back off the upgrade, however, you cannot recover any work performed by WebSphere MQ Version 6.0.

With WebSphere MQ for Windows®, the installation process detects whether this is a new installation or an update from a previous level of this product. If you migrate from an earlier level, all the objects that you previously created (for example, your queue managers) can be maintained. The components that were previously installed are preselected in the feature options when you install the new level. If you leave these components selected, you can keep them or reinstall them. However, if you deselect any of these components, the installation process will uninstall them.

WebSphere MQ for Windows, Version 6.0 no longer supports the following features, previously available in MQSeries® systems. If any of these features were previously installed, when you migrate to the new level of WebSphere MQ, the installation process will uninstall them.
