Generating heap dumps manually

Use this task to manually generate heap dumps.

Why and when to perform this task

You might want to manually generate heap dumps for analysis of memory leaks. On IBM Java virtual machines (JVM), you cannot enable automated heap dump generation. And because of the overhead of taking heap dumps, you might want to designate certain times to take heap dumps. Upon memory leak detection, you might want to manually take a heap dump at the appropriate time. On IBM JVM, you can manually produce heap dumps by using the generateHeapDump operation on special Java beans, called managed beans (MBeans).
