Creating login key files

Why and when to perform this task

A login key file is an ASCII file in which the authenticating user IDs, passwords, and target realms for each different target server are specified. When the security authentication service processes the login key file, the passwords in the file are encoded.

Steps for this task

  1. Create a new ASCII file a text editor.
  2. Add information to the login key file that you created in the previous step in the following format:

    Realm_name User_ID Password

  3. Make sure that the data conforms to the following rules:
    • One realm name
    • One user ID, and one password defined in each entry
    • One entry per line
    • No blank lines between entries
    • Comments on separate lines only
    • Begin any comment with a number sign (#):

      Example:

      # Sample key file
      #
      # First target realm
      #
      TargetRealm serverID serverPassword
      #
      # Second target realm
      #
      TargetRealm2 serverID2 serverPassword2
      #
      # End of key file

A wsserver.key sample file also contains these instructions. After installation, you can locate this sample file in the install_root/properties directory. You can use or modify the sample file as needed for testing.

You can place the login key file anywhere on a host machine running the application server. However, it is recommended that you place the login key file under a securable file system.

What to do next

After creating the login key files, read the article entitled, Preparing truststore files.
