Installing IBM DB2

IBM® DB2® Enterprise Server is one of the supported databases for use with WebSphere Message Broker.

Other editions of DB2 that are stated to be suitable for production deployment are also supported. For a full list of supported databases and versions, from IBM and other vendors, see Supported databases.

On Windows® only, the Derby database is embedded in the broker component. It is suitable for verification and evaluation only, and is enabled when you install the ODBC Drivers from the Launchpad as part of the WebSphere Message Broker product installation. For production systems, you must install one of the supported databases, for example, DB2 Enterprise Server. For information about how to install ODBC Drivers as part of the WebSphere Message Broker installation, see the Installation Guide.

Start of changeFor distributed systems, DB2 Enterprise Server Version 9.1 is supplied on DVD (for Linux® (x86 platform) and Windows only) and on CD with WebSphere Message Broker. DB2 can be installed either before or after you have installed WebSphere Message Broker. To install DB2, see the install.html file in the /doc directory on the CD or DVD. The supplied version is subject to restricted terms and conditions for use with WebSphere Message Broker. Help is provided by the installation wizard following license acceptance.End of change

For z/OS® systems, either DB2 Version 8.1 or DB2 Version 9.1 is required, but no other databases are supported. You must install DB2 before you install WebSphere Message Broker on z/OS systems.
