WebSphere brand IBM WebSphere Telecom Web Services Server, Version 7.1

Using the Notification Management user interface

The Notification Management user interface provides an easy way for administrators to manage notifications through the TWSS Administration Console.

The Notification Management user interface interacts with the Notification Management Web service client, which in turn interacts with the Notification Management administration Web service.

Note: You will need to re-navigate through the TWSS Administration Console, if the servicing application server goes down at any time while you are navigating through the Notification Management user interface.

Operation capabilities

You can use the Notification Management user interface to perform the following operations:

Listing active notifications
Displays all active notifications in the system. Notifications are divided into the number of pages, and only n active notifications are displayed at any time. (You can configure the value of n.)
Listing active notifications by criteria
Retrieves notification information-based service name, requester, or correlator criteria. Notifications are divided into the number of pages, and only n active notifications are displayed at any time.
Resetting statistics for all notifications
Resets the statistics of all active notifications in the system.
Resetting notification statistics by criteria
Resets notification statistics based on service name, requester, or correlator criteria.
Terminating active notifications
Terminates all active notifications from the system.
Terminating active notifications by criteria
Terminates notifications based on service name, requester, or correlator criteria.
Selective terminate / reset notifications
Enables the administrator or care representative to reset or terminate the notifications selectively.

Active Notification Display page

This screen displays all active notifications in the system. An active notification has different information fields. The Notification Management user interface is designed to display selected field information about a notification.

The Correlator information is displayed as a hyperlink, when clicked, it displays additional fields on a separate page to provide more information about the active notification.

Use of filters in the notification display

The notification information can be filtered by correlator, service name, and requester. You can also add filters by clicking the show/hide filter settings button. Using this button, you can select or view notifications based on the filter values specified for correlator, requester, and service name.

Here are some guidelines for using the filters:

The following input fields and action buttons are used for the filter settings:

Correlator
The correlator value or values for the filter conditions. Default: *
Requester
The requester value or values for the filter conditions. Default: *
ServiceName
The service name value or values for the filter conditions. Default: *
Apply to All
Useful when you need to terminate or reset statistics of active notifications based on some filter values. Selecting this check box and calling a reset or terminate request would reset or terminate notifications of all notifications that match the current filter condition. Similarly, setting a filter value of * in all three fields with the Apply to All check box selected, has the same effect as a terminateAll or resetAll Web service request on the Notification Management component.
Go
Updates the current filter settings to the temporary session repository. It also refreshes the active notifications display page with the notifications entries matching the current filter.
Note: Empty values are not allowed in the filter settings input fields.

Lifetime of filter settings

Filter settings are not permanently maintained, to safeguard against accidental termination of active notifications. All filter settings are cleared in one of the following conditions:

Implementation of Notification Management user interface operations

The Notification Management user interface supports the Web service operations described in Operation capabilities, elsewhere in this topic.

To access the active notifications display, open the TWSS Administration Console and navigate to Web Service Platform > Notification Manager > Notification Management User Interface. By using filters, you can perform the various Web service operations. The following information describes how to perform different operations using the filter settings.

List active notifications

By default, the Notification Management user interface displays all active notifications.

It is also necessary to clear the filter settings, if they are set. To clear the filter settings, click Clear Filters or do the following:

  1. Click Show/Hide Filters.
  2. In the Filter Settings window, set * for all of the filter fields.
List active notifications by criteria

This action displays all active notifications. First and last notification record details are used as a reference record to navigate to a previous or next set of notification records. Filter values for Service, Correlator, and Requester are used to input parameters into the Web service call to filter the notification records.

Complete the following steps to list active notifications by criteria:

  1. Click Show/Hide Filters to enable the Filter Settings window.
  2. Enter the appropriate filter value for Correlator, Requester, and ServiceName. Make use of the wildcard character * wherever necessary.
  3. Click Go to apply the filters on the result set.

Only the notifications matching the filter condition are now displayed.

Terminate all active notifications

This action terminates all active notifications. Filter values for Service, Correlator, and Requester are used as Web service input parameters.

Complete the following steps to terminate all active notifications:

  1. Click Show/Hide Filters to enable the Filter Settings window.
  2. Enter the value * for Correlator, Requester, and ServiceName.
Note: To terminate the active notifications by criteria, enter the appropriate values for Correlator, Requester and ServiceName.
  3. Select the Apply To All check box.
  4. Click Go to apply the filters on the result set.
  5. Click Terminate to terminate all active notifications.
Reset statistics of all active notifications

This action resets the delivery statistics of all active notifications. Filter values for service, correlator, and requester are used as Web service input parameters.

Complete the following steps to reset all active notifications:

  5. Click resetStat to reset the statistics for all active notifications.

Configuring the Notification Management component

The Notification Management user interface interacts with the Notification Management component Web service, which is part of the TWSS Service Platform. Therefore, you must configure the Notification Management component's endpoint in the Notification Management user interface settings page.

Web service implementations may decide to register the notification with different Notification Management services. In such cases, the Notification Management user interface can retrieve, reset, or terminate only those notifications that are registered with a Notification Management whose service endpoint is configured in the Notification Management user interface settings.

The Web service URL for Notification Management is http://localhost:9080/TWSS/ServicePlatform/NotificationManagement/services/NotificationAdministration

Note: The Notification Management user interface can communicate with remote notification managers.

Set the Web service URL from the TWSS Administration Console by navigating to Web service Platform > Notification Manager > Notify Management Administration Client.

Configuration properties

The TWSS Administration Console configuration properties are managed through a JMX setting. When managing the configuration properties, the changes do not require the system to be restarted. Also, configuration settings are read at the start of each call, thereby keeping the call settings consistent through the lifecycle of the call.

Note: The MaxNotificationDisplay setting allows you to configure the number of notifications to be displayed on a page. The default value is 15.
