Basic Features of Dialog Boxes

Several basic features are common among dialog boxes. The following are described in this reference page.

Radio Buttons

Radio buttons offer a choice of mutually exclusive options; you can choose only one option at a time. A radio button has a diamond shape. If a button appears to be depressed when the dialog box appears, it is the default. In the following figure, the top button is selected.

To select a radio button, click on it. This action deselects the previously selected button.

Check Boxes

Check boxes offer a choice of nonexclusive options; you can select any combination of options. A check box has a square shape. If a button appears to be depressed when the dialog box appears, it is the default. In the following figure, the left button is selected.

To select a check box, click on it. To deselect a check box, click on it again.

Fields

A field provides space in which you enter text. The following shows a sample field.

If the text string extends beyond the field, the text scrolls left as you continue to type. To display hidden text, scroll using the left arrow and right arrow keys.
