More on Configurations (Apex/Summit)Configurations provide a way to group views from different subsystems. For example, a system release is often constructed by creating a configuration that includes release views from each of the component subsystems. You can name only one view per subsystem in a configuration.
Configurations are also used to specify the closure when main programs are to be linked. The contents of a configuration are either the fully qualified names of views or the fully qualified names of other configurations.
When a unit links against a configuration, it has visibility to all units specified in any of the view's export sets.
Creating a Configuration File
To create a configuration, create a new text file in the form name.cfg. To add views to a configuration, visit the file in an editor window and enter the fully qualified view names, one per line.
A configuration file can be located anywhere; it does not have to exist inside a subsystem or in a particular part of your file structure.
Configuration files are described in more detail in the Programmer's Guide.
Special Features of a Configuration File
Because a configuration file is only a text file, you can specify comments or undefined view names without corrupting the configuration. When you compile against a configuration, the compilation ignores anything specified in the .cfg file that does not resolve to an existing view.
Although the configuration-editor window is not a viewer window, you can visit any of the named views in a viewer window by selecting Navigate:Visit while the cursor is on the line containing the view name.
Linking with a Configuration File
To link a file with a particular configuration, select Compile > Link to display the Link dialog box.
Note that, for each view named in a configuration used for linking, there must already be a view from the same subsystem in the normal import structure; that is, views in configurations are replacements for imports, not patches to fill in holes in the imports.
Link Dialog Box Fields:
Units To Link Field
The Units to link list field shows objects to link. Use the input field to add or remove object names.
Link Check Box
- Stop when the first error is found
- Stops the link when an error is found.
Link with Configuration Field
Enter the fully qualified name of the configuration file in the Link with configuration field.
If you specify a configuration file in any import or compiler-related command, the command uses the views listed in the configuration file as the arguments for the command.
Options Field
Input linking options in the Options field.
