CM > Metadata (Apex/ClearCase)The CM > Metadata command attaches or removes an attribute, a branch, or a label. The metadata type must exist or be created using the CM > ClearCase Native GUI (Apex/ClearCase) or the mkattype, mkbrtype, or mklbtype cleartool commands. Metadata may be attached to an element. Please see the ClearCase User's Manual for more details.
The CM > Metadata command displays the ClearCase Metadata Operations dialog box.

Objects To operate on list field:
The list field displays the elements for which the metadata will be attached or removed.
Use the Add input field to add elements to the list field. Use the Remove or Clear buttons to delete entries from the list.

- Attribute
The command involves a ClearCase attribute. Attributes are specified as a name/value pair.
- Branch
The command involves a ClearCase branch.
- Label
When Attribute is selected:
Attribute Name field
Specify the attribute name of an attribute that has been defined for the VOB. Once you specify the Attribute Name, the Attribute Value field becomes modifiable and the Range and Type information is filled in.
Attribute Value field
Specify a valid value for the attribute.
Replace existing attribute of same type check box:
Select to replace any existing conflicting attributes of that type.
Process subtree of each directory check box:
Select to process the entire subtree of each object that is a directory element, including the object. VOB symbolic links are not traversed during the recursive descent into the tree. The attribute is assigned to the directory element itself, not the elements cataloged in the directory.
When Branch is selected:
Branch Name field
Specify the branch name of a branch that has been defined for the VOB.
Suppress warning messages check box:
Select this check box to not display warning messages.
Suppress automatic checkout check box:
Select this check box to not checkout the branch.
When Label is selected:
Label Name field
Specify the version label name of a label that has been defined for the VOB.
Replace existing label of same type check box:
Select this check box to replace any label of the same type.

For all three metadata types:
Version Selector check box and field:
Select the check box and enter the version-selector in the field. Please see the ClearCase User's Guide for further details or enter cleartool man version_selector in a UNIX shell..
Comment options radio buttons:
- No Comment
There is no user-supplied comment. This will override the default comment specified in $HOME/.clearcase_profile.
- Comment
When selected, displays a comments text box. The entered text will override the default comment specified in $HOME/.clearcase_profile.
- Comment file
When selected, displays a Comment Filename file selection field. The contents of this will will override the default comment specified in $HOME/.clearcase_profile.
