Mouse Instructions Used in Help

Throughout the online reference, you will see instructions that tell you to left-click, left-drag, or perform some other action combined with click or drag. These instructions refer to the way in which you will use the mouse buttons to perform actions in the windows.

The common mouse-button actions are:

Example 
Meaning
click 
Press, or click, the mouse button once. Unless a specific mouse button is mentioned, as in middle-click, the left button is implied.
drag 
Hold down the button, move the mouse to a new location, and release the button. Unless a specific mouse button is mentioned, as in middle-drag, the left button is implied.
left-click 
Click the left mouse button once.
left-drag 
Hold down the left mouse button, drag the mouse, and release the button.
middle-click 
Click the middle mouse button once.
middle-drag 
Hold down the middle mouse button, drag the mouse, and release the button.
right-click 
Click the right mouse button once.
right-drag 
Hold down the right mouse button, drag the mouse, and release the button.
double-click 
Click the left button twice, without a pause between clicks.
triple-click 
Click the left button three times, without a pause between clicks.
Shift —— left-click 
Hold down the Shift key on the keyboard and left-click.
Control —— Menu name > Command
Hold the control key down while you perform the appropriate menu selection. For example, Control —— Compile > Analyze means to hold the control key down while you click on Compile and drag down to Analyze.
