More on Version Histories (Apex/Summit)

A version history is a time-ordered sequence of versions that represent the incremental development of a file. Each time you check in a controlled file, a new version is added to the file's version history.

For example, file A, below, has a version history containing three versions. Each version is a snapshot of the file at some moment in time.

To display a list of versions in a viewer, select Control > Show > Versions (Apex/Summit). From the viewer window, you can visit the read-only image.

Apex also uses the term version history or history to describe a version-history family. The difference between the two is discernible by context; a version history deals with a file's time-ordered sequence of versions, and a version-history family deals with the part of the version-control database that stores the version-history information.

Version histories are also described in the Concepts Guide.
