directory viewer

When Apex visits a directory, it opens a directory-viewer window that displays a list of files and directories. The directory-viewer window is sometimes referred to simply as the directory viewer.

You can use the directory-viewer window to navigate through the UNIX directory structure, open files and directories, and view other files and directories.

Visit your home directory (graphics and text)

1. . Type a tilde (~) in the Visit field

2. . Select the Visit button:

For the tut_user user, the directory viewer displays:


Start the X server and window manager

For example, to use X11 and the Motif window manager:

Set the display (DISPLAY environment variable)

  • For the Bourne shell (sh) or Korn shell (ksh), enter the DISPLAY command as follows:

    lProvide a remote workstation with access to the X server on your ocal workstation

    Execute the following command on the local workstation:

    % xhost + remote_host

    where remote_host is the unique network name of the remote workstation.

    Initialize Apex by running apexinit

    From the command line by typing:

    where apex_release is the full pathname to the current Apex release. For example, if Apex is installed in a directory and file named /rational/Apex/Apex.3.2, execute:
