Specifying Other UNIX Text EditorsYou can use any UNIX text editor in an editor window (vi or emacs, for example), although doing so prevents you from taking advantage of certain features. Commands such as Compile > Program > Show Usage and Compile > Complete are not accessible from other UNIX text editors. However, the full benefits of optimal recompilation apply even if you have used some other UNIX editor to edit a source file.
Using the vi Editor
Follow the example below to specify the vi text editor as the default text editor. To use a different editor that you have access to in your UNIX environment, enter the name of that editor instead of vi.
From the C Shell (csh)
setenv APEX_EDITOR1 viYou can add this to your .login file to use vi by default.
From the Bourne (sh) or Korn (ksh) Shell
APEX_EDITOR1=vi; export APEX_EDITOR1You can add this to your .profile file to use vi by default.
Editors are described in the Programmer's Guide.
