Using the Find Dialog BoxThe Find dialog box appears when you select the Tools > Find command.
The Find dialog box uses filters to select a group of objects to be placed in a Find window.
To use the Find dialog box:
- 1. Use the file locator to select one or more directories from which to filter the desired objects.
- 2. Select filtering options to collect the desired objects.
- 3. Click on OK or Apply.
Use the toggle buttons to indicate if the objects selected should be files, directories, or both. The selection of objects can be filtered by filename, by directory name, by file attributes, by Ada unit state, and by configuration management and version control (CMVC) state. Filtering options are described in the following sections.
- Filtering Objects by Name
- Filtering Objects by CMVC State
- Filtering Objects by Ada Unit Attributes
- Filtering Objects by Filesystem Attributes
The file and directory name patterns used by the filters follow these conventions:
- - An asterisk (*) matches any group of zero or more characters.
- - A question mark (?) matches any single character.
- - A comma-separated list of patterns enclosed in braces ({}) matches any name that matches at least one of the patterns.
A time field should be specified using the syntax:
mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss
If not specified, the date mm/dd/yyyy defaults to the current day and the time hh:mm:ss defaults to 00:00:00.Objects to filter
The Directories/Files to search box lists directories and files.
The filters are applied to the listed files and to the objects (both files and subdirectories) in the listed directories. The filters are not applied to the listed directories themselves.
Subdirectories of the listed directories are recursively searched except for those subdirectories excluded by the Exclude Directory pattern.
The Include Hidden Directories allows searching of normally hidden subdirectories. Hidden subdirectories consist of those matching the name pattern ".*" and those with Apex recognized names, e.g. Exports, Imports, Policy.
Filtering Objects by Name
The following options specify the name patterns to be matched.
- Include Pattern
Only files that match this pattern or the Always Include Pattern are included in the Find viewer window. The default pattern is "*". Matching files are subject to the Exclude Pattern.
- Exclude Pattern
Any file that matches this pattern is excluded, excepting those which match the Always Include Pattern. The initial pattern is:
which matches hidden files, files beginning with "#", files ending with "~", etc.
{.*,#*,*~,Policy,Exports,Imports,Makefile,Links,Templates}- Always Include Pattern
Any file that matches this pattern is always included regardless of the Exclude Pattern. The default is no pattern, which matches nothing.
- Exclude Directory
Any subdirectory not explicitly included in the Directories/Files to search list, whose name matches this pattern, is not searched. The initial pattern is:
which excludes hidden directories and standard Apex implementation directories.
{.*,Imports,Exports,Links,Policy,Templates}Filtering Objects by CMVC State
These options filter objects based on CMVC state. These options are allowed when finding only files. If no option is selected, NO filtering is performed based on CMVC state.
The following options are cumulative. For example, if you select both Checked In and Uncontrolled, the display will include objects in either of those two groups.
- Checked In
Include objects that are controlled and checked in.
- Checked Out
Include objects that are controlled and checked out.
- Out of Date
Include objects that are not the latest version of the object.
This option is only available with Summit/CMVC.- Uncontrolled
Include objects that are uncontrolled.
The following options are limiting. Selecting none of the cumulative options, but selecting one or more of the limiting options implies inclusion of all controlled files; the same as having selected Checked In and Checked Out.
These options are only available with Summit/CMVC.
- Checked-In Time
Limit included objects to those that have a check-in time relative to the time specified. Use the option button to specify Before or After. Use the text field to specify the time. The check-in time of a checked-out file is considered the current date and time.
- Checked-Out Time
Limit included objects to those that have a check-out time relative to the time specified. Use the option button to specify Before or After. Use the text field to specify the time. There is no associated check-out time for the initial version of an object.
- History
Limit included objects to those with the specified version history, such as Common. Enter the desired history name in the text-entry field.
- User Attr
Limit included objects to those having the specified user-defined attribute. Enter the desired user-defined attribute name pattern in the text-entry field.
- User Attr Value
Limit included objects to those having the specified user-defined attribute value. Enter the desired user-defined attribute value pattern in the text-entry field.
- User Attr Pairs
Limit included objects to those having the specified user-defined attribute name=value pairs. Enter the desired user-defined attribute name=value pairs in the text-entry field. The field is parsed as a list of semicolon (';') separated name=value pairs. A name=value pair consists of the name pattern followed by an assignment indicator, either equal ('=') or arrow ('=>'), then the value pattern. Whitespace is stripped from both the name and value patterns.
Summit/CMVC operations are described in Using and Customizing Summit/CMVC.
Filtering Objects by Ada Unit Attributes
The following options filter objects based on Ada unit attributes. These options are allowed when finding only files. The effect of these options is cumulative. Selecting any of these options restricts the results to only Ada units in subsystem views whose Ada attributes have already been computed. If no option is selected, NO filtering is performed based on Ada unit attributes.
- Archived
Include Ada objects that are in the archived state.
- Source
Include Ada objects that are in the source state.
- Installed
Include Ada objects that are in the installed state.
- Coded
Include Ada objects that are in the coded state.
- Package_Spec
Include Ada package specs.
- Package_Body
Include Ada package bodies.
- Procedure_Spec
Include Ada procedure specs.
- Procedure_Body
Include Ada procedure bodies.
- Function_Spec
Include Ada function specs.
- Function_Body
Include Ada function bodies.
Filtering Objects by Filesystem Attributes
The following options filter objects based on filesystem attributes.
- Update Time
Include objects that were updated relative to the time specified. Use the option button to specify Before or After and the text field to specify the time.
- File Byte Size
Include objects that are relative to the specified file size. Use the option button to specify Smaller Than or Larger Than and the text field to specify the size in bytes. This option is allowed when finding only files.
