Windows > Input Output

The Input Output command brings up the Input Output window, which displays the inputs and outputs of the currently executing program.

The debugger supports the use of any xterm-like program for the program Input/Output window through the X resource *debugger.log*xtermCommand. The default of "xterm" is set in $APEX_HOME/app-defaults/Rational. You can use dtterm and aixterm by changing the value of this resource.

However, cmdtool is sufficiently different that you can't use it in place of xterm. It is possible to redirect your progrma's I/O to an existing cmdtool after you bring up the debugger. In the cmdtool, type the command "tty" to find out what pty it is using. Then, in the debugger's command pane, enter the commands,

where pty_name is the name of the pty for the cmdtool.

Customization of the debugger I/O window can be done using the app-defaults file. When doing this, the debugger I/O windows is addressed as a_db_xterm. For example, including the following lines in the app-defaults file results in a debugger I/O window with a green background, blue letters, and a scrollbar with 1000 lines of history.

Note that any resource available to xterm can be specified. Use the man xterm command to find out what resources are available. If you are using some other xtermCommand, you will have to use the resources specific to that command.
