More on Exporting

For Apex/Summit, to make units in a view visible to other views in different subsystems, you specify those units in an export set. For Apex/Clearcase, to make units in a Rational subsystem (RSS) visible to other Rational Subsystems or Summit views, specify those units in an export set. An export set is a set of units that are exported from a particular view or Rational subsystem.

Units are always exported into a particular export set. The same unit may be included in more than one export set. When a client view or RSS imports a supplier view or RSS, the client specifies an export set in the supplier. The client has visibility only to the units included in the specified export set of the supplier.

To see a view or RSS's exports and their enclosing export sets, select the Control > Show > Exports (Apex/Summit) or Compile > Architectural Control > Exports (Apex/ClearCase) command or visit the view or RSS's export-description files (see Import and Export Files).

See Exporting Overview in the Programmer's Reference for more information on exporting.

Default Export Set

Each view or RSS has a default export set which is specified by the DEFAULT_EXPORT_SET context switch. All import and export commands use the default export set unless you specify another. In particular, when a client view or RSS imports a supplier view or RSS, the client uses the default export set of the supplier unless a specific export set is specified.

The default value of the DEFAULT_EXPORT_SET switch is the all_units export which automatically includes all units in the view or RSS. To change the default export set, changes the value of DEFAULT_EXPORT_SET from all_units to the new value.

all_units Export Set

The all_units export set automatically includes all units in the view or RSS. Any client view or RSS which uses the all_units export set from a supplier will have visibility to all units in the supplier.

If you do not want all the units in a view or RSS to be visible to any view or RSS that uses the all_units export set, delete the export set using File > Discard. To recreate it, use the File > New command. You do not eed to add the exports to this export set; Apex only needs to see that an export set named all_units exists.
