Switches by Functional Area

Rational Apex uses switches in the following functional areas. A list of the switches included in each functional area can be found in the index under the heading "Functional Area Switches", for example, Configuration Management Switches, Output Switches, etc.

Configuration Management

Operations associated with saving previous versions of files and coordinating the work of multiple developers (commands such as check in, check out, abandon, control, uncontrol, accept_changes, and show).

Compilation

Operations that allow program units to be parsed, analyzed, compiled, and linked in the compilation context of the view associated with the units.

Editors

Operations used for editing in either the language editor or the text editor.

Exports / Imports (listed under Configuration Management)

Operations that control the relationships between views in different subsystems, especially with regard to inter-subsystem compilation dependencies.

Object Management

Operations associated with creating, coping, moving, and deleting objects (subsystems, views, units, configurations, histories, export sets, files, directories).

Output

Operations that control message output.

Pretty-Printing

Operations that control how objects will be automatically formatted.

Runtime (listed under Compilation Switches)

Operations used when running a program.

Utilities

Commands for models, templates, and maintenance. Models provide a mechanism to coordinate the characteristics of views (Apex/Summit) and Rational subsystems (Apex/ClearCase).Templates provide initial values for various files that are created by Apex. Maintenance operations maintain the files and directories which are managed by Apex (locations, locks, and switches).

Switches are also described in the Programming with Apex.
