Compile > Maintenance > CleanThe Compile > Maintenance > Clean command demotes language units to a lower compilation state, deleting their associated compilation objects. The compilation objects are in the .Rational directory of the unit's enclosing view. For Ada, the compilation artifacts deleted are files with the suffixes .o, .O, .i, .I, .asm, .dna, .lin, and .lib. For C++, compilation artifacts removed include object files, executables, template repositories, libraries, and user-specified objects. When you choose Compile > Maintenance > Clean, the Clean dialog box appears.
Clean Dialog Box Fields:
Clean Units or Contexts Field
Use the Clean Units or Contexts list field to specify the files whose goal state you want to demote. Use the Add input field to add names. Use the Remove and Clear buttons to delete entries from the field.
Goal State (Ada only)
To specify the goal state to which to demote the files, select one of the entries under Goal State:
For Ada, to specify the goal state to which to demote the files, click the Goal State Archived option menu, drag the cursor to the compilation state, and release the mouse button.
![]()
The goal state you specify should be lower than the current goal state of the unit. The default goal state is Archived. Demoting a unit to the archived goal state deletes all corresponding compilation objects.
Before demoting a unit, Compile > Show > Demotion Impact allows you can see the impact the demotion will have on other units.
