File > Copy Object (Apex/Summit)

The File > Copy Object command copies one or more objects. Use this command to copy individual files, directories, subsystems, or views. Copies of directories are recursive. You can also use this command to create a set of working views or a set of release views. When you invoke this command, the File Copy dialog box appears.

Note: When copying an object "with history" to another view, the notes for the object will not be accepted.

Copy Object Dialog Box Fields:

Copy Object / Copy Views Radio Buttons

The Copy Object radio button is used to copy files, directories and subsystems. The Copy Views radio button should be set when creating new views in existing subsystems.

Copy Objects Field

The Copy Objects list field shows the names of those objects to be copied. Type object names in the input field to add or remove them; select and click Remove to remove them.

Destination Name Field (Copy Objects Mode)

Input the name and path of the new object. If you specify a relative name in the Destination field (such as new.wrk), the destination is based on the context of the dialog box (that is, the context in which the command was issued).

Tabs

The options for this dialog are organized into tabbed groups. These Tabs provide access to different information applicable when creating a view. The only tab available if the Copy Objects radio button is selected is the Control tab.

Control Tab

If source object is checked out Radio Buttons

The following radio buttons apply if a source object is checked out:

Copy Version History if Controlled

This check box indicates whether newly-created destination files are to be controlled when the corresponding source files are controlled.

Tasks to Associate with Checked In Versions Field

This field appears only when the Check In Before Copy radio button is selected. It specifies the tasks to be associated with the checked in object. It is initialized with the current task list. The Navigate icon can be used to select a different set of tasks by activating the Select Tasks dialog. The Alternatives icon displays the tasks in your "to do" task list.

View Tab

Selecting the Copy Views radio button causes an additional set of tabs to become activated. See Copy Views Options in the File > Copy Object Dialog Box (Apex/Summit) for a description of these options and tabs.
