Using the Apex Help SystemYou have started Apex's graphical user interface (GUI), which provides an easy-to-use and powerful interface to this product. Apex provides an integrated solution to large scale, complex project development by incorporating architectural control, configuration management and version control, intelligent language editors, Ada compilation management, C/C++ build management, an interactive debugger, customization tools, task management, and integration tools in a tightly integrated, Motif-based environment.
From this opening Panel window, you can access the rest of the Apex functionality. The fields and buttons in the Panel window allow you to:
- Display the Setup window, used to create Apex projects (see the Programmers's Guide for details)
- Exit Apex, terminating your Apex session
- Display the Windows window, used to display, open, close, and manipulate Apex windows
- Open an Apex xterm window or shell using the Shell button. This is equivalent to using the Tools > Shell command.
- Access the extensive online documentation set using the Help button.
- Visit files using the directory-viewer window. Enter the path name of the directory to visit in this field, or simply ~ to visit your home directory.
The Navigate, History and Completion icons are used extensively throughout the Apex GUI. For a description of these icons, see Basic Features of Dialog Boxes.
For general information on the available Help facilities, see Online Help Overview.
How to Access the Complete Online Documentation Set
To access the rest of the extensive Apex online documentation set, see Documentation, or select the List of All Documents button in the navigation bar. Using either of these methods, a table is displayed which contains a listing of the entire online manual set for Apex with a brief description of each document. Clicking on any manual name in the table takes you directly to that manual.
An online Tutorial is also provided with this product and should be used if you are unfamiliar with its use.
