Using the Find Dialog Box

The Find dialog box appears when you select the Tools > Find command.

The Find dialog box uses filters to select a group of objects to be placed in a Find window.

To use the Find dialog box:

1. Use the file locator to select one or more directories from which to filter the desired objects.

2. Select filtering options to collect the desired objects.

3. Click on OK or Apply.

Use the toggle buttons to indicate if the objects selected should be files, directories, or both. The selection of objects can be filtered by filename, by directory name, by file attributes, by Ada unit state, and by configuration management and version control (CMVC) state. Filtering options are described in the following sections.

The file and directory name patterns used by the filters follow these conventions:

- An asterisk (*) matches any group of zero or more characters.
- A question mark (?) matches any single character.
- A comma-separated list of patterns enclosed in braces ({}) matches any name that matches at least one of the patterns.

A time field should be specified using the syntax:
    mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss
If not specified, the date mm/dd/yyyy defaults to the current day and the time hh:mm:ss defaults to 00:00:00.

Objects to filter

The Directories/Files to search box lists directories and files.

The filters are applied to the listed files and to the objects (both files and subdirectories) in the listed directories. The filters are not applied to the listed directories themselves.

Subdirectories of the listed directories are recursively searched except for those subdirectories excluded by the Exclude Directory pattern.

The Include Hidden Directories allows searching of normally hidden subdirectories. Hidden subdirectories consist of those matching the name pattern ".*" and those with Apex recognized names, e.g. Exports, Imports, Policy.

Filtering Objects by Name

The following options specify the name patterns to be matched.

Filtering Objects by CMVC State

These options filter objects based on CMVC state. These options are allowed when finding only files. If no option is selected, NO filtering is performed based on CMVC state.

The following options are cumulative. For example, if you select both Checked In and Uncontrolled, the display will include objects in either of those two groups.

The following options are limiting. Selecting none of the cumulative options, but selecting one or more of the limiting options implies inclusion of all controlled files; the same as having selected Checked In and Checked Out.
These options are only available with Summit/CMVC.

Summit/CMVC operations are described in Using and Customizing Summit/CMVC.

Filtering Objects by Ada Unit Attributes

The following options filter objects based on Ada unit attributes. These options are allowed when finding only files. The effect of these options is cumulative. Selecting any of these options restricts the results to only Ada units in subsystem views whose Ada attributes have already been computed. If no option is selected, NO filtering is performed based on Ada unit attributes.

Filtering Objects by Filesystem Attributes

The following options filter objects based on filesystem attributes.
