Stepping Examples

Stepping commands are described in Using the Apex Debugger.

Examples in the Language Editor

For example, if the current context is displayed in the following language editor window displaying the Main unit, where One_Value is a function call\

Step Over

If you enter a Step Over command, you see:

Step Into

If instead you enter a Step Into command, you stop in the first statement in the Update_Arrays procedure. (If the Update_Arrays unit is in a different file, the language editor window displays the new file.) Note that you stop at this declaration because it has associated assembly code for assigning the initial value.

Step Statement

If instead you enter a Step Statement command, your new context is now in the One_Value function. (If the One_Value unit is in a different file, the language editor window displays the new file containing this function.) You see

Examples in the Source Pane

For example, if the current context displayed in the Source pane is:

Step Over

If you enter a Step Over command, you see

Step Statement

If instead you enter a Step Statement command, your new context is now in the Put_Line function.

Step Instruction/Step Over Instruction

If instead you enter a Step Instruction or a Step Over Instruction command, the current position in Source pane does not change but the instruction position is now displayed in the Debugger Command/Log pane.
