Version and Element NamesNote: The ClearCase related features described here are only available if the Apex/ClearCase Integration product has been installed and enabled.)
Many dialogs have fields which take controlled file objects as values. By default, these file objects must be identified by their filenames within some Apex view. Quite often, however, the controlled objects can also be identified by their full version names or by their element names. The form used is determined by a set of radio buttons.
Full Version Names
Fields that accept full version names are usually enabled by a radio button labeled "Versions". A full version name allows any version of an object to be referenced without the use of an Apex view. A full version name is a single line of the form
[repository:] subsystem element history version
The items are separated by spaces. The <repository> is "ClearCase". It may be omitted to use the default repository for the subsystem or if the subsystem has only one repository. The <subsystem> is a pathname. The <element> is the relative pathname to the object (which is same for all views). The <history> is the name of the history (or ClearCase branch) containing the version. The <version> is the version number within the history (branch). In some dialogs, the <version> may be specified as "*" which is expanded to identify all versions of the element in the given history.
Element Names
In addition, some dialogs accept element names which are similar to full version names. Fields that accept an element name are usually enabled by a radio button labeled "Element". Element names are similar to full version names. An element specification consists of the following separate fields:
