Tools > EditorThe Tools > Editor command opens a window on the editor specified by the $EDITOR environment variable. This allows you to use an editor other than the language editor. With the variable defined, Tools > Editor operates as follows:
If the $EDITOR environment variable is not defined, this command acts like the Navigate > Visit command.
To define an environment variable, use the setenv command. For example, to define the $EDITOR to vi, enter this command in a UNIX shell window:
% setenv EDITOR vi
To take advantage of the Tools > Editor command, you must set the $EDITOR variable before you begin the current session.
Note: If you do not use the Apex language editor on objects, you cannot take advantage of its language-sensitive features such as syntax and semantic completion and context-sensitive visit.
More information on the Apex editor(s) is available in the Programmer's Guide.
