Message Detail

There are four available levels of message detail that can be displayed

Message Detail
Meaning
Verbose
Full message
Concise
Prefix section of the full message. For most messages, verbose and concise are usually the same.
Cryptic
Displays just the message ID.
Simple
Form produced if the message catalog cannot be found or did not contain an entry for the particular message. \n the example below, the simple form includes the message_id which could be used to find the real message text, plus the data used to replace prompts in the message. With this information, the actual message text can be constructed (for use for defect reports, etc.)

Since the message kind is stored in the catalog, neither the simple or cryptic forms are able to select the appropriate message prefix. Rather than use nothing or pick one prefix, "<UNKNOWN_KIND>" is used both as a marker and as a hint to the developer to fix the kind if it shows up during testing.
