Controlling Dialog-Box DisplayYou can use modifier keys to execute a menu command using the dialog-box default settings without displaying the dialog box. Similarly, you can display a dialog box when selecting a menu command that suppresses its associated dialog box because of the current context.
Suppressing a Dialog Box
To execute a menu command without displaying its associated dialog box, press the Shift key while selecting the command. The command executes using the dialog-box default settings and operates on the currently selected object or objects.
Some commands require that you specify information in a dialog box. Pressing Shift while selecting these commands displays their associated dialog boxes.
Displaying a Dialog Box for a Direct Execution Command
In certain situations, a menu command that otherwise displays a dialog box executes directly on the current object. For example, the Compile > Analyze command displays a dialog box if executed from a Directory Viewer window but not from a Language Editor window. The command uses the default settings if it does not display the dialog box.
To display the dialog box for this type of command, press the Control key while selecting the command. The command does not execute until you click on OK or Apply in the dialog box.
If you press the Control key while executing a command that has no associated dialog box, the command executes directly.
