File > Setup

The Setup dialog controls which projects are active and what session to restore when Apex is first started.

Setup Dialog Box Fields:

Projects

Apex allows you to create an object called a project that contains this kind of information and makes it available at various points in the Apex user interface. Projects can be on a per-user basis or shared among groups. Once created, projects must be activated to be used in an Apex session.

A project file is represented as a text file whose name ends with the extension .apexprj. Project files for a user are stored in the .Rational subdirectory of the user's home directory.

You can create projects by clicking on the New button in the Setup dialog, or by clicking File > New > New Project in most windows.

The Available Projects list shows which projects are defined and can be activated. To activate a project, select it in the Available Projects list and click Add->. To deactivate a project, select it in the Active Projects list and click Remove <-. To display or edit the contents of a project, select it in the Available Projects list and click Visit. Clicking OK or Apply will make the change take effect.

If new sessions have been created and do not appear in the Available Sessions list, click Apply to refresh the list.

Projects are documented in more detail in the Programmer's Guide

Sessions

An Apex session is the set of windows currently on your screen, along with positions, sizes, and some aspects of their contents. Save your session and, optionally, have it restored when Apex is next started. You can also open a session object in the middle of a session; this has the effect of adding windows to your session.

Users can save their sessions when they exit from Apex and have them restored when Apex is next started. (Restoring sessions containing many windows can be time consuming, so you might not want to restore your session as it was when it last ended.)

You might want to create an initial session for a group that contains a few common windows, perhaps a views window showing views in the development tower and perhaps a directory window on the view that is under development.

In the Setup dialog, the Session to restore on Apex startup field names the session that will be opened when Apex starts after apexinit is run. The popup menu will show all the currently existing sessions and can be used to select the session to start automatically. Clearing the field and clicking OK or Apply will cause no session to start automatically.

apexinit also has a -session option to name a session to be used on startup. If this option is specified, the value of the Session to restore on Apex startup field is ignored on that invocation of Apex.
