More on Referencing ObjectsYou can specify objects using either of the following strategies:
- You can select ("point to" or "highlight") the objects or their representations on the screen.
- You can enter debugger pathnames as values to the command's parameters. When you designate an object by specifying its relative pathname, the name of the object is resolved as follows:
- The debugger resolves the name of the object lexically in the current context, using visibility rules.
- The debugger looks for the name of the variable in the global scope.
When you specify an object by selecting it with the mouth, the debugger performs only the action in the second bullet (global scope).
Some commands require objects to be selected, such as the Debug > Show... command. The Debug > Show... command resolves the selected object to be the same class of expression allowed in the Expression field of the Show Data dialog box. Some commands require debugger pathnames, such as the Breakpoints > New command in the Breakpoints window.
Debugger pathnames and other relevant debugger concepts are described in Using the Apex Debugger.
