Control > Branch (Apex/Summit)

This dialog creates new branches (histories) for existing objects. It may be applied to objects in the Summit repository.

A new version (numbered 1) in the given history is created (for each object) with the same contents as the current version.

Branch Dialog Box Fields:

Create a new branch for Field

The list of objects to which a new branch will be added. Each object in this list must be a controlled file. The branch is added to the current version in the current history.

History Field

The name of the branch (history) to be created for each object. The history must already be defined in each object's subsystem, however, an object must not already have a version in that history.

"If an object being branched is Checked Out" Radio Buttons

These radio buttons determine how checked-out objects are handled:

Abandon Check Out
Abandons a checked out object before creating the new branch. A copy of each abandoned version may optionally be saved in a file having the same name with ".saved" appended.
Check In before Branching
Checks-in a checked-out object before creating the new branch.
Retain Check Out after Branching
Checked-out version of an object becomes the first version of the new branch and remains checked-out.

Check Out after Branching Check Box

If set, this check box causes the new version of each object to be checked out after the new branch is created.

Add Notes Field

Specifies a note to be added to each object before the new branch is created.
