Compile > Show > Usage

The Compile > Show > Usage command shows in a viewer window the usages of a declaration elsewhere in the code. If only one usage is found, the containing unit is displayed in an editor window instead of a viewer window. When you choose this command, the Show Usage dialog box appears.

Show Usage Dialog Box Fields:

Report Group Field

Add entries by clicking Report on, after entering the name of the declaration for which you want to see usage occurrences.

Remove entries by selecting entries in the field and clicking Remove,

Search Group Field

Add entries by clicking Search in, after entering the name of the scope in which you want to search for usage occurrences.

Remove entries by selecting entries in the field and clicking Remove,

Search Includes Check Boxes

The Search Includes check boxes determine the closure of the search.

Report Includes Check Boxes

The Report Includes check boxes determine the closure of the search.

Report Depth Check Boxes

The Report Depth check boxes determine the depth of the search.

General Check Boxes

The General check boxes determine general characteristics of the search results and processing of the search group.

Traversing to Occurrences of the Declaration

To traverse to occurrences of the declaration within a unit, use the View > Message -> and Message <- menu items (also located on the default button bar) to move forward and backward to the exact location of the occurrence in the code. The occurrence is represented by shaded text and preceded by the cursor.

A message is associated with each occurrence. To view the message in a Message window, select Help > Explain while the cursor is on the occurrence.
