View > ElideThe View > Elide command causes objects (files and directories) nested under selected directories in the current viewer to be hidden. Use the command multiple times to hide successive layers of nested objects. If no objects are selected, the command hides the contents of each subdirectory visible in the viewer.
To use the command, select zero or more directories and then select View > Elide.
In the following example, the directory Smartseat elides to hide the objects nested beneath it:

To expand and show files and directories, use the View > Expand command. To expand and show only subdirectories, use the View > Subdirectories command.
