Technical Bulletin #10 - June 27, 1995
For Solaris 2.4 / PrestoServe Users
We would like to alert ClearCase customers running PrestoServe
2.4.1 and Solaris 2.4 to a problem that could potentially result in
data corruption. Sun has announced, in EARLYNOTIFIER (SM) ALERT -
Volume 1 Number 8 dated June 16, 1995, an incompatibility with
PrestoServe 2.4.1 and Solaris 2.4 on SPARCcenter 2000/SPARCserver
1000 hosts. It reports that attempts to use such a configuration may
result in data corruption. Sun recommends installing PrestoServe
2.4.2 upon its availability. For more information, you may retrieve
this notice from SunSolve or contact Sun's Customer Service Center.
We have seen several instances of VOB data corruption in this
configuration. This corruption may also be present in your VOB
backups.
What To Do
If you are running this configuration and would
like to ensure the validity of your data, you may do the following:
- Stop ClearCase on the machine where your VOBs are located.
# /etc/init.d/atria stop
- Run the ClearCase dbcheck utility from the VOB's
database directory. (This must be done as root.)
# cd /db
#
/usr/atria/etc/utils/dbcheck -a -k vob_db
- If the results come back with 0 errors, then your VOB database
appears to be okay. If you encounter problems with your VOB after
a successful dbcheck, call Rational Customer Support.
If you receive errors from the dbcheck, you should
restore your most recent backup and run the dbcheck utility
on it. If you find that your backups are also corrupt, please
contact Rational Customer Support.
