SUBJECT: UPDATE: Technical Bulletin #30
Customers using Glance to monitor performance on systems with MVFS may have experienced extreme degradation in performance caused by excessive RPCs between the MVFS and a view. This problem also puts a significant load on the system that hosts the view.
Rational Engineering in cooperation with Hewlett-Packard Engineering has determined that the excessive RPCs were caused by the middaemon component of Glance.
Hewlett-Packard has issued patch number PHKL_16074 for HP-UX 11.0. For HP-UX 10.20, the patches are PHKL_17573 (for Series 700) and PHKL_17574 (for Series 800). These patches correct the problem.
ClearCase customers running HP-UX 11.0 or 10.20 and who are using Glance to monitor their systems should apply this patch as soon as possible. This problem does not appear to affect Glance use on other platforms.
