• Don’t put VOBs in $PATH

• Don’t put VOBs in $LD_LIBRARY_PATH

  • Both of these will slow down every user command, and raise the load on view/VOB servers

• Beware mixed FDDI/Ethernet

  • If you bridge the two, make sure the fragmentation/reaassembly works correctly
  • Test with ping using various packet sizes

• gethostbyname() must work well

  • We call it a lot in some places
  • If it’s slow (large host table, misconfigured NIS/DNS), you’ll suffer
