What's New in This Release

Rational Download Manager is a software download tool designed to improve your ability to obtain Rational software. Because many of the download files on www.rational.com are quite large, sometimes it is difficult to maintain a connection to the Rational servers through a browser long enough to successfully download them.

Rational Download Manager:

With Rational Download Manager you can download files in three different ways:

You are not limited to downloading only Rational files with Rational Download Manager. You can download files from any HTTP URL on a Web site as long as the files are not login protected and the HTTP URL does not redirect. Right click any HTTP URL that points directly to a downloadable file, and then select Rational Download Manager from the menu. This feature is available for Internet Explorer only and is not supported for Netscape browsers. For additional information on download methods, please see the Rational Download Manager Help files after installation.

Upgrading from Previous Versions of Rational Download Manager

This is the first release of Rational Download Manager. If you have installed a beta version of this product, you should remove it from your system before installing this version.

Rational Download Manager includes a function to automatically download updated versions of itself from the www.rational.com Web site. Each time Rational Download Manager is loaded, it will contact the Web site and determine whether a new version has been released. You will be alerted if a new version is available and will be given a choice to download the update now or wait until later. If you download the update you will need to execute the download once it completes. You can do this by simply double-clicking the completed download in the status window of Rational Download Manager. In addition, you should then exit Rational Download Manager by right-clicking the Rational Download Manager icon in the system tray and selecting "Exit" so the new version can be installed.

Licensing

Use of Rational Download Manager is governed by a license that is embedded within the installer. During installation you will be prompted to accept this license or you will not be able to continue installation. If you want to refer to this license prior to installation and you have received Rational Download Manager on physical media, please see the file entitled "License.rtf" in the "Rational Download Manager" directory which is found inside the "Rational Extras" directory.

Compatibility Issues

Rational Download Manager will only install and run on the following Microsoft Windows operating systems:

Please see Client Requirements for further information on operating system, service pack, and browser compatibility.

Known Issues and Change Requests

The following are the known issues and/or change requests for this release of Rational Download Manager:

Component   Defect/RFE Number   Description
Browser integration RATLC00371108 Right-click downloading is not supported in Netscape browser: Rational Download Manager includes functionality that allows users of Internet Explorer version 4.0 and later to download from any HTTP URL (logins and redirects are not supported) by right-clicking on the URL and selecting Rational Download Manager. This functionality is not supported on Netscape browsers. If you are using a Netscape browser, you should copy the URL, launch Rational Download Manager, and enter the URL directly by selecting "Download File from URL..." from the File menu.
Browser integration RATLC00371049 Error appears launching help using Netscape browsers: In some cases, Netscape browsers do not automatically register themselves appropriately with the Windows operating systems. The result can be that when the browser is invoked the browser generates an error message but then continues on to display the HTML appropriately. Please disregard the browser's error message in this case. It is a result of an incorrect configuration on the part of the browser.
System tray RATLC00371075 Selecting an option from the system tray menu causes Rational Download Manager to crash: In very rare cases, right-clicking the system tray icon causes Rational Download Manager to crash. If this occurs, please restart Rational Download Manager.
Installation RATLC00371172 Default installation doesn't work for users other than the user who installed the product: In some cases, installations performed by one user are not usable by another user. To resolve this problem, select the Preferences item from the File menu and switch the Download Directory and Temporary Directory settings to locations that are shared between all users on the system. Typically this error results from using default Rational Download Manager settings that force Windows to deny access to a specific user's directories.
Proxy server RATLC00370973 Rational Download Manager freezes if the proxy server is not responding: If you configure Rational Download Manager to use a proxy server and that proxy server fails to respond, then Rational Download Manager will freeze. Using the task manager, close Rational Download Manager, insure the proxy server is responding to requests, and then reopen Rational Download Manager.

Documentation Updates

There are no known errors in the product documentation.
