Removed all the *.tdb files from the opt/var/locks dir and started afresh. It seems that these were corrupted and had to be rebuilt.

I have all the most important bits of the demo done and now I'm trying to spice it up a bit. We currently have two notebooks, which will create a problem when trying to show what is happening on the Windows notebook and the QNX notebook at the same time.

I have installed both 3rd Party ESS MaestroDrivers but I am not sure how to get it running.

I am guessing I am maybe running io-audio incorrectly or doing things from the wrong location!? Have you an example I can try out?

Got it...
There are a few places that matter :

1) edit /etc/inetd.conf. De comment the "shell" and "rlogin" lines NB slay
inetd and restart it. "inetd"

2) edit "/etc/hosts.equiv" . In my case I added "moments root" and
"augusta root" lines. This is to allow root uses from the moments and
auguata hosts. NB the host names will also need to be in the "/etc/hosts" file

3) copy the /etc/host.equiv" file to "/root/.rhosts" . I'm not sure if this
is necessary but it does work.

4) The last and most trickey bit is to make sure the /etc/hosts.equiv and
/root/.rhosts files have read only permission. "chmod 444 /etc/hosts.equiv"
etc.. This is necessary (and undocumented).

I did once setup a Samba server - getting it to be viable to Windows XP
involved setting "security=share" in smb.conf. It tooka while to find that one.

should be on the Cd that you have downloaded. So you should be able to
connect to shared drives on Windows machines.
The utility and syntax are :

fs-cifs //winbox:winbox_ip:/winbox_share_name /my_dir user password
Where :
winbox: is the network name of the target machine.
winbox_ip : is the ip address of that target machine.
winbox_share_name: Is the public name of the required drive/directory that
is published on 'winbox'.
/my_dir : Is the directory that you choose to create. The winbox_share_name
files/directories will appear under this directory (it can be anywhere).

For more info : enter "use fs-cifs"

If you want the QNX box to be a samba server. The necessary software is on
the "Third Party CD" I can probably pull out the necessary packages and get
it to you (it looks like 2Mb).

Have you blown a CD from the iso? When done, the CD will boot or can be
autorun while in windows. You can install it to its own partition or as a
file in windows (NB you may need to create a boot floppy if using
XP). Once that is done and the OS rebooted and running native, it will
probe the box for graphics card etc. Once it is complete you will have a
tasteful blue screen and a 'shelf' of options on the right hand side. One
of those options will be the installer. Use the installer to install the
Momentics x86 package, and thats it. If you are still having problems it
may be good idea to call Greg Bergsma or Iztok Fraz (at the office) As I
will be out of town for the new few days.

Wow - do you have contact information ? There is IPAQ support in the free
download version. Also a Third party CD is available that has some IPAQ
software.

The two boards that we have are 486s only about 66MHz, 16Mb of ram and
about 32Mb of compact flash. Should be ok. Hope this helps.

QNX has traditionally worked on PC hardware - any PC is a good target for QNX. I am sure the latest version still supports PCs as well.

We were able to get boards from EmbeddedPlanet ( http://www.embeddedplanet.com) for the last embedded solution training session. These boards are fairly inexpensive. I am not sure if they provide support for QNX but do know they provide support for many other well known RTOS families -- VxWorks, Integrity, OSE, etc.

You may want to check these out. The boards can be purchased as low as $495 with a PPC823.

Can anyone recommend a cheap development board that we know works well? I was thinking something PowerPC that could maybe do VxWorks as well.

If we can get something generic and cheap enough then we maybe be able to scrounge enough cash from our respective piggy banks for a Sales/Support target.

One more update on this... I spoke to the QNX distributor... they usually do their demos to an i86 target. So if nothing looks reasonable that might be the best option for this exercise. They will give us the QNX software to build a demo with.

When we sort out what target we will use, can you ring Andy Rhind on 6248 6611. He is your equivalent in their organisation. My counterpart (Greg Bergsma) has lined up that you can get a copy of the appropriate QNX.

Wayne/Mark/Chris,

Phew!!

Got Samba working again. It turned out to be that the Samba
/opt/var/locks/*.tdb go messed up somehow (probably by the crash or the
cause of the crash, on Friday).

I reinstalled Samba but this helped only so far as showing me that the file
dates of the above were old. Huib helped out and we got it working again by
removing the *.tbd files and letting Samba create some fresh ones.

The demo i snow ready to have a final go over.

I have sound working!

Sorry for the delay, but the TrafficLight demo had some bugs that only
showed up on QNX. I thought it was due to the priority levels but it ended
up just being a design fault.

Now, apparently there is a new release of TestRT coming out Aug 19, so
you'll need to sort out if it can be used. I haven't any testrt stuff
installed, so Chris can you bring the necessary along with you when we talk.

You also need to sort out a sound to use, it shouldn't be too long.
Presently I have TestSnd.wav (attached) but you'd probably want something
better, I've attached a few more.

Also, I took Masami through the demo to get a newbee perspective... you
should also get a graphic showing what the demo represents. So a picture
with two traffic lights (one with a walk-signal) and a "controller box"
which is the QNX box.

Mark/Chris,

Just to make this a bit more official, I've created an SR for this and will
also create a Solution document.

Yesterday to got "swat" working, which is the Samba configuration utility,
and used that the fix up the write permissions. So we can now build straight
to the QNX box but still have to type "make" manually. This is no drama as
we can build the simple capsule on NT and the "here's the one we prepared
earlier" can be the QNX machine.

I'll get the demo working today and any loose ends I'll see if Canada have a
quick fix, overnight.
