Each module in DOORS should open default in Read only mode. How to manage this. The DOORS help gives no answer to this question, unfortunately

Use the help file to find command line switches.

One option for command line switches will open modules read only

To continue on Ron's answer: there are separate commands on setting the default edit mode on opening module from the DOORS Explorer (database window) and on opening modules through links. These defaults can be set on the DOORS startup icon command line or on Windows in registry.

On Windows PCs, with Doors 7.1, you can save the following as a text file named: "Doors_openMode.reg", save it, and double-click it: This modifies the registry... so the usual warnings apply. You may have to adapt the Doors version from 7.1 to your version.

This entire notion is HIGHLY desirable: open modules Read only unless the user specifically chooses otherwise.

Michiel's Registry file updates the registry for the current user on the current client. To update it for all users of a client (e.g. desktop) computer, replace "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" with "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE". I believe you need 'Power User' or 'Administrator' rights to your computer to do that (and many companies now deny those rights to typically users).

However, advertising to typically users how to edit their registry can lead to disaster. The attached DXL does the same chore (you probably want to suppress the print statements), perhaps getting folks to run that DXL is better than getting them to execute the registry update file.
