Hi All,
I am very new to Doors 7.1. I have a very strage issue.
I am asked to copy and paste content from PDF file into doors under requirements below each object.
The second step would be run a DXL file.
The third step is to generate an IOM.
The IOM gets generated successfully but when I look at the result, the text under some requirements is missing.
Result Example:
Object Name: 1.4 SUCCESSFUL RESPONSE FORMAT
Result: <no successful response format found section>

I am expecting a result something like this
Object Name: 1.4 SUCCESSFUL RESPONSE FORMAT
Result: cr lf lf
           ^^^<SID>^<YY--MM--DD>^<HH:MM:SS> cr lf
           M^^<CTAG>^COMPLD cr lf
           ;
Keyed file shows as my expectation but not the IOM generated file.
Can anyone please help me out with the basic operations in Doors7.1? Can I insert a new column(s) under the objects to create new requirements? If yes, How? I am just able to delete but not insert.

Thanks a ton in advance

Hello and welcome!

I'm afraid it sounds like you need to find a friendly local DOORS expert to talk to, problems like this are a bit difficult to diagnose without access to the database.

The missing text may be a feature/bug of the DXL you are running.

The inability to create new Objects could be due to the Access Rights you have been given on the Module. In the main Database Explorer window, right-click on the IOM Module, choose 'Properties' and have a look at the Access tab. About half way down it will say "Access rights for " <your user name> followed by some letters. It sounds like you have 'RMD' (Read, Modify, Delete), but to create objects you also need 'C'. You need someone with Admin rights to change this.

The example mentioned would appear to be an "Object Heading" rather than "Object Text".  The Object Text associated with an object which has Heading text is usually blank.  It is not advisable (although it is possible) to mix both object heading and object text in the same object.  Having a blank result suggests the dxl may be only looking for object text.

Hi Paul,

Thanks a ton. I checked the said proporties by you and could see all the (RMCDA) letters in it. I was able to find a gap between the displayed and non displayed text under the headings.

The below scenario is pertaining to 2nd level view.

First level   ED-EQPT
Second level >Purpose
Second level >Input Parameters
Second level >Output Parameters
Second level   Examples
Second level   Error Codes

The text is displayed fine for Purpose, Input Parameters and Output Parameters (The objects with a symbol > but not under Examples and Error Codes.

Can anyone shoot as to what is the significance of the symbol > here in the objects. And also to generate the same symbol for Examples and Error Codes. It is not created by just inserting an object.

Thanks

Below your view selection list (on the upper left side of the module window) is a level selection list, which you have probably set for "Level 2". The > is diplayed in level 2 objects to show that below the diplayed objects there is more content. Maybe you are using some view which has this setting saved?

Object Heading is a string attribute and thus can have only basic rich text (like bolding) but cannot have OLE objects, but most of all cannot have an EOL (cr lf).

You are probably pasting into Object Heading when you really want Object Text.

When you create a new object it is 'empty' and appears, oddly, as a Heading. If you double click therein you will start editing the object Heading attribute. To edit Object Text you should select the object and type cntl-T.

If you already have a Heading on the object and you want to insert text, you can still use cntl-T.

When messing around like this its advisable to display the Object Heading and Object Text in separate columns, instead of the 'main' Object Heading and Text column.
