We already use Doors, and are looking into using DoorsNet for some of our new users.
Is it possible that some users use Doors and some use DoorsNet, accessing the same databases?

Yes, of course.
DoorsNet users and DOORS users can exist quite happily beside each other accessing the same database.

There are two versions of DOORSNet, one read-only and one allowing editing. The former is intended for use by reviewers who do not need to enter information into doors. The latter allows users to edit modules.

If you are thinking of getting the edit version of DOORSNet, be warned that this is not "DOORS Light" and you will soon find that it is very restrictive in what you can do with it.

Alie,

A few things to watch out for.

Maybe we have just been unlucky, but we have never been able to install or upgrade DOORSnet without help from technical support, including allowing them on our system to complete things that the installation script missed.  IMHO, the install script is buggy.  Still once installed, that problem goes away until the next upgrade.

Second, there are a couple of key features missing from DOORSnet.  For example, you can't do a Go To command.  You can't export, although you can print.  You can also cut and paste what's on the screen into an Excel doc, but it's very messy.  Also, DOORSnet 8.1 does not support external links.  I don't yet know if 8.2 includes this feature.

The third thing has to do with performance.  Performance slows down considerably more for DOORSnet when users are attempting to access a view using columns (analysis wizard) with data from other modules.  It seems to get bad when you get past 4 columns in a view on our system.

We've also had a lot of conflict errors, and it seems that once we start getting them, they we continue to get them until after we shut down DOORSnet services and restart them.  I'm continuing to work with Tech Suport on this, but we haven't found an explanation for it to date and support gets a little frustrating since the development team is across the pond.  There don't seem to be many diagnostic tools to help us solve the problem, but at this point, my best guess is that the problems start on the DOORSnet side when a DOORSnet user attempts to go into a module in edit mode while someone has the module open for exclusive edit in DOORS.

Having said these things, it seems to be an adequate solution for our remote customers.

Hi Jacqueline and others,

I am trying to find some information about the operation of DOORSNet and find your experience quite useful.
We are planning to make our modules available for the developers "across the pond" by installing DOORSNet. We want to provide access to attributes for their comments in one or two columns only.
I have the following questions:
1. Is the access as fast as any other web site on the net? Or does it depend on the conditions of use at the source of the database?
2. How difficult is it to install the DOORSNet on the client's machines? If it is complicated, we would not be able to help them frequently? Did you have to contact the Telelogic frequently for the break in service?
3. Is there any way that a module can be made Read only (no Edit) to the DOORSNet user, if it is being edited (Exclusive Edit) at source? We do not use the option of the Shareable Edit. Since we are operating in different time zones, probably we can live with Exclusive Edit at one end and Read only at the other end.
4. Did you experience any corruption or loss of data from the modules by this process?
Thanks in advance for any information.

We use DOORS/Net v8.2 browse only. I.E. 6 browser on WIN XP SP2 clients. Server is WIN Server ENT 2003 SP2 with IIS 6.0 DOORS v8.2 & DOORS/Net v8.2 on same server.

It is as fast as how many views within modules within projects published, number of objects, and your network bandwidth.

Some users do not like it, since when you click on a link to follow from perhaps a REQS DR to REQS SR, the current window is replaced {DR by SR window} Work around is the way you write a view for publishing [can use DXL to help here]

There is no client install. User types in http://doors/doorsnet/anon.html in address bar of IE browser of client. Then user saves DOORS/Net home page as favorite or creates shortcut.

/doorsnet/anon.html needed by DOORS/Net. The "doors" part can be replaced with IP address or server name for doors.

Can have multiple versions of DOORS [8.1, 8.2, or 8.3] running on server on different ports, but ONLY 1 DOORS/Net server. Choose what DOORS/Net version you want & it must match your DOORS version. DOORS/Net version and patching level must match that of version of DOORS.

Krishna,

I have not experienced any problems with data corruption with DOORSnet.

Also, when a DOORS user has the module open for edit, DOORSnet users will not be able to lock the module to edit at least in 8.1 and later versions.

Cheers,
Jacqueline
