Answer:

Louie, I got the plainOld stuff from another forum.  It is an undocumented feature (or so it was stated in the forum) that is useful for removing all the markup from oldValue and newValue History properties.  If you do a search for it and I am sure you will find the original message.  I forgot where I had seen it.

On a good note, I figured out my problem...I was able to write the script to keep overwriting a string value from the skiplist until it got to the last item in the skiplist.  Then just display that value in the string.  See Attached Code...(In this example, there is no use of plainOldValue...but I could have added it in to the display same as the author and date info)

I put a list of history modified dates (h.date) with their old values (h.plainOldValue) into a skip list...Is there a way to extract the most recent date from that list with the relevant old value info and display in a column?

Convert the date to an integer and use that as the key. This will give you dates in order.
Beware though that there may be duplicate dates!

Skip sl = create
string old = (string h.plainOldValue)
int d = intOf (h.date)
put(sl, d, old)

I see how this is helpful, however, how would i just extract the largest number at that point?
