Answer:
We figured it out. I just didn't have the correct path to the options.opt file... Once I added that, it worked fine.

Hi... We have several licenses on a server, and we want to set aside a certain number of licenses for a specific group of users. So for example 2 licenses would always be reserved for this group, the rest would be up for grabs by anyone else... It looks as if I can do this with Flexlm and by setting up an options file. I’ve added a line to the license file to include the options file name options.opt so now the vendor daemon line looks like this

DAEMON telelogic /appl/telelogic/flex/archflex options=options.opt

My options.opt file has the following in it

GROUP Workers Michael Bob
RESERVE 2 DOORS GROUP Workers

I’ve made these changes, stopped the license server, and started it up again, but I seem to not be having any luck (It still allows anyone to obtain a license). Has anyone had any success using options files? If so do you have any hints or tips, or see anything that I'm doing wrong.

Thanks for any help in advance

The most likely problem is that the license manager isn't finding your options file. I don't think flex reports any errors if it can't find the options file, it just ignores the extra text on the daemon line. You shouldn't have "options=" on the daemon line. I think it should read something like this:

DAEMON telelogic /appl/telelogic/flex/archflex /appl/telelogic/flex/archflex/options.opt

The part after the path to the telelogic daemon executable should be a complete path and filename for the options file. It can exist anywhere (as long as the path listed is correct), but we usually put then right next to the license.dat file. Any time you change something on the daemon line, you need to stop/start the license server (lmreread will not work).

What you have in the options file looks correct to me. Flex will still allow anybody to check out a license until you get down to the last 2 (I think you realize that - I just wanted to make sure).

Yeah it looks as if that was the problem. I had just put the options file in the same directory as the license and not put the path in the license file assuming it would find it. Now that I've put the full path in and restarted the license server, it works fine. It does work with the options= line there... Perhaps it's optional. Thanks for your help...

FYI, DOORS 8 has some functionality in what Mr. Venos was looking for. However, I think you need to pay extra for it though.
