Hi

I'm trying to migrate requirements from another tool into DOORS 7.1.

I have all requirements in an Excel comma-separated file with structure:

Object Number, Object Heading, Object Text, UDA1, UDA2, UDA3

Where Object Number is the Chapter Number in the old system and all other fields are self-explanatory (I hope)...

I have an empty formal module with the UDA1,2,3 attributes created.

I use File->Import->Spreadsheet to try to import the attributes into the DOORS module and select...

- Import to attributes: from list
- I select the attributes in the module, including Object Number (which is available)
- Data separator: Comma
- Select input file...

Then I make the import...

Everything works fine except for the Object Number, which even though I selected to import into this attribute, is ignored and auto-generated by DOORS.

Help!! My chapter structure is being completely ignored by the import.... How to fix?

Thanks in advance for any tips

Adrian,

The DOORS File->Import->Spreadsheet tool does not comprehend hierarchy, and imports all objects at "Level 1".

There is no way in DOORS to rearrange the DOORS objects into a hierarchy by assigning Object Numbers.

I had the same problem many years ago, and wrote the following tool to rebuild the hierarchy after the import. The tool is available here.

To use it, you would import the "Object Number" into a string or text attribute, such as "Desired Object Number", and then run the script.
