I created my project, but only have the standard view.  When I go to view-manage view, I get a message that no views have been created for the module.  How do I create additional views like those found in the training module, i.e. basic view, budget view, etc.

Thanks,

Attached is CopyView.dxl, originally written by Telelogic and drastically improved by me.

You need to manually create the views in one module, open the module then use the script to push the view to the other modules. The interface is better if the source module is in the folder that houses all the other desired target modules (presumably in subordinate folders). Be SURE to adjust the access rights of the source views BEFORE pushing them down; probably setting access to the views to 'Inherited'.

Of course, those modules need to already have the attributes used by the view.

If you don't want to play with DXL, then set up the views that you want by adding columns, applying filters etc and then use View -> Save As

If you want several modules all with the same attributes and views then set this up without adding any objects and copy it as many times as you need.

With the Standard view open, add columns and filters etc to create the view you want.
Select menu option View > Save As...

Ignore the advanced tab for now.

The dialog gives you options to remember settings for window size and position, filtering etc.

You can also save the view as Private or Public. Private views will only be seen by you in the drop down list on the module window. Public views are visible by anyone. There is also a custom option that allows you to customise who can see it.

Unless the view is being created for everyone to use, alwways create it private, this way it doesn't clutter up the list of views users have to search through when changing views.

You can make the view the default view that is loaded when you open the module.

I need to copy a view created in one formal module to several other modules (not an uncommon need, I suspect). Found the code in a forum, copy/pasted into Wordpad, saved with .dxl extention along with other macros that Telelogic supplied. When attempted a run, was informed of 10 errors.

Am I doing something basically wrong? First attempt at this.

Is there a better way, maybe built into DOORS (can't find it in the Help if there is!)

More:

OK, I found out how to use the attach code buttons in making this reply, copied and resaved the code using Notepad, and ran the code without error.

Anybody got modified code that lets you go from source to multiple destination files?

More2:

OK, went to the source module and ran the code. This let me select multiple destinations exactly as I needed. Ran the code. Went to a destination module. The name of the view is there. Select the view, but NO JOY, the columns are the same as the standard view.

Tried it a second time to be sure, same results.

Any suggestions?

This works fine for me.
Looking at the code, the script reports errors such as missing attributes etc, and I can't think of any other reason for this not to work.

Any more information?

Actually, there is ...

After making sure the attributes were in the destination file, it works fine. I suspect I did not understand the error messages.

In looking around the site, I found another copy view macro and it was this macro that clearly advised me about the missing attributes.

Funny thing is, being new to the site and forums, I can't re-find the second macro! I'll trip over it somewhere, can't be far ...

And thanks for looking at the code for me.
