Anybody have luck tracking login/logout information and how many concurrent DOORS users there are during the day?
Do CITRIX users share the same single DOORS license or must each get her own? - Louie |

I have a cmd script that outputs the date, time and number of current users in a csv file for input into Excel. I’m using the Scheduled Task facility under Windows 2000 to run it hourly. One could adjust it to a smaller interval if desired.
If you’re interested send me email and I’ll get you a copy. Sorry I haven’t paid attention to how Citrix users are handled. I probably should though. ------------------------- Wayne Sanders-Unrein Honeywell Aero Electronics Olathe, KS, USA |

Emails is in my profile. I've got some sort of DOS Batch File that does this (dbadmin.exe?) and I figured I could programatically parse the results and strip out the active users line, and like you said run it every hour or so.
Just wondering if perhaps the FlexLM manager can dump this information, since surely it knows how many licenses are out. - Louie |

Hi,
I get the FLEXLm license server to dump it's license stats every 30 minutes from 07:00 to 19:00 Monday to Friday. This is achieved by using FLEXLm's "lmutil" command line interpreter. The DOS batch file that is run every 30 minutes contains something like the following. c: cd C:\Program Files\Telelogic\DOORS\flex lmutil lmstat -f DOORS >> DOORSLicenseLog.txt Every Monday morning I use a PERL script to extract what I need from the DOORSLicenseLog.txt file and present me with a summary of peak license usage per day of the previous week and a list of users who have checked out a license and how many half hour sessions they were detected as having had a license for. ------------------------- Paul Miller Specification Practices Specialist, EuroCyber, Melbourne, Australia. I'm pretty certain FlexLM can create a log file continuously, adding a line to it every time a user logs in or out. It's something our US DOORS admin has set up. I'll see if I can find out more and get back to you all...

We manage the licenses on a unix box and administer the license through SamSuite gui. You can get any type of reporting thru this GUI.. You can set alarms to notify you if you are close to licenses running out, etc.. SamSuite is product of macrovision aka globetrotter... the folks that patened the flexlm technology. It is very easy to show usage statistics and gauge license purchases for flexlm enabled products, like DOORS.

quote: Hi all, back on this matter one more time. I need to do a check about licenses use, and I located the file that adds a line every time a license is checked in/out -as Paul mentioned. However, this log file starts with following note: "Please Note: This log is intended for debug purposes only. There are many details in licensing policies that are not reported in the information logged here, so if you use this log file for any kind of usage reporting you will generally produce incorrect results." I'd really like to know if someone here is using this file to do some sort of statistics, and if it fails often to produce realistic reports (otherwise I'm going to use the lmutil lmstat thing, I think ).. We are currently using Doors 7.1 bye Massimo Edited: 1-Aug-2005 at 15:35 by Massimo D'Andreagiovanni |

Jon, "Average usage per month" seems a little vague -- can you define.
If number is associated with log-ins per month in share/edit modes that would be an easy dxl script. Edited: 20-Oct-2007 at 23:23 by ron lewis |

Hi All,
I collect the login information of all the users from the DOORS_login_history file from the database server (I request the IT people to send a copy). Can a similar file be installed for the log-out information of the users? Or whether log-out information can be recorded in the same file? By using the login and log-out times for each user, we can find out how much time a user is logged on to DOORS. If anyone has a shareable code, please let me know. Thanks in advance. |

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the message. Since I do not have access to the server, I have to sit down with our IT persons and try the code you suggested in the thread. I presume that this command will write the detailed information of the license, the user, time etc. If you have the data, can you please give details of the information we can expect every half an hour ? |
