![]() Answer: A lot of the questions you asked can be answered by your IA people. I am just going to make an educated guess based on my experience with IA, administrating Class and unClass networks for the Air Force, and DOORS. You wouldn't have to wipe the clients because no data is stored on them; although you may have to wipe out the classified data on the originating PC . The tape backups would have to be wiped (sorry) from the time the first backup of the classified on an unclass network (really sorry). The server itself would not have to be wiped. You would need to get with Telelogic and ask them to help you find the file(s) associated with the classified data, (remember not to send them an archived copy) after that you would simply do a standard government wipe of the files. The standard program to do that on Gov computers is a program called BCwipe. BCwipe simply overwrites zeros to the location of the files that you wanted to delete seven times. Your IA office should have a copy. Because you would be only deleting the files associated with the mishandled classified you would not have to restore from a backup, and only the classified data would be lost. I hope this helps. | |

Those in Defense know that you cannot put Secret stuff on a UnClassified server, no duh. I was wondering if anybody has come up with a plan to handle the case where an UnClass DOORS module was accidentally updated with a Secret piece of information.
Will puring the module and replacing IT from an old backup be OK? What do you do with all the tape backups? Do we have to revert to weeks-old backups for the entire DB? Do Client machines need to be wiped? - Louie |
