I am using DOORs to write requirements for the project. I'm trying to find out if there is any way, in DOORs, to include the "Object Number" and "Object Heading" from one record to be included as text in another record. I am writing requirements for our system to process messages from an external system. As I'm writing my requirements I have found that a number of requirements are applicable to different messages (formatting, validation, ... ). Instead of repeating the same requirements for each message (each message has its own section), I would rather create a common section of a document that contains these requirements. Then when I write the requirements for a message, I would then refer to that common section of the document. What I'm trying to avoid is to have to manually enter the Section # and Header for the requirements in the message section. I'm looking for a DOORs feature that would allow me to include as text the "Object Number" and "Object Header" from that common section as text in the requirement (think if this as a cross-reference). Then if the "Object Number" changes or I change the "Object Header" text, DOORs would automatically update the requirements that cross-referenced the section.

I'm trying to avoid having to manually enter (and maintain) the Section # and Heading text that would be entered into the requirements for each message.

I don't think "links" will work, because link information is not carried into the generated PDF file. I would expect that when I generate a PDF file, the message section requirement would contain the correct Section # and Header.
Please give me suggestion.

Thanks
srini

Link will work if you show the data in traceability column, use e.g. the Analysis Wizard to create your traceability column.

So you could have a heading Common Requirements in each section where you would like to link these common requirements, link the requirements to this heading and show the linked items in a traceability column. When you export then the linked common requirements are shown after this "Common Requirements" heading.
