I have entered all the necessary attributes needed into one module. How do I copy those attributes into the rest of the modules in the project?

Thanks,
Wayne

Wayne,

In DOORS 5.0 and above, you can go to the Module you want to copy the attributes to (target module), and go to Edit->Attributes, click on the "Attributes" tab, and click the "Import" button. Then select the "Source Module" and Attributes you want to import.

That is the DOORS out-of-the-box way to do it. There are scripts out there that also perform the same task, as many of us had to do the task in earlier versions of DOORS. Take a look at "copyAttribute_" in <utils/copyops.inc> if you need to automate the process further.

Another solution is to create the attributes/types/views in a template module, then use this script (attached) to apply those attributes/types/views to the target module. You can copy the file to the <DOORSHOME>/addins/user directory to have the script available in the User menu pull-down.

Make sure to specify the name of the template storage directory ("/Project/Templates" for example) in the DXL script - just modify the SOURCE_FOLDER string definition.

One note: When the script is executed, you are presented with a list of Modules in the specified SOURCE_FOLDER. Once you select one from the list and click Apply, the attributes/types/views will be copied into the current Module, but you still must save the module to make the attributes/type change permanent. Views are permanent even if you do not save the target module.

Hi Dennis

Your script sounds veryveryvery useful, but I can't see the attachment anywhere.

Could you repost it, please?

best regards

Search in this forum for "copyview" This dxl script was originally written by Telelogic and drastically improved by Louie Landale. I've found it very useful!

My bad; the copyview script only copies views, not attributes. I'd also like to get hold of Dennis Lockshine's script. Please!

Hi Ken
Did you get Dennis's script? If so could you please upload it?

Unfortunately not. Note the date of his posting is four years ago and he may no longer be a user of this forum...

Perhaps I can help here.

The attached script will allow you to copy one or more views to one or more selected target modules, it also has an option to create missing attributes in the target modules.

I recall that the origin of this script is from Jeremy Dick's suite of legendary "Kitchen Scripts". There are some include files that need to go with this script (these are attached as well), you will need to modify the #include lines to point to the correct location.

The only major deficiency that I'm yet to get onto is that it doesn't copy the View Definition or the View access rights of the source view to the target module. This means that all of the view properties are set to their defaults in the copied view and view access rights are defaulted to inherited.

It could be made a little more robust but otherwise it has proven to be a mighty useful utility.
