Hi All,
I'd like to move my entire doors database from one server to another. All
of the user and project data, but none of the application specific files.

Both servers are running Doors 7.0 SP1, so the DB format should be the same.

I couldn't find any info on this in the softare manuals. Has anyone done this?

Thanks,
Andrew

Somewhere there is a DB data root folder that contains the "conf" and "hierarchy" folders (at least in v6). Perhaps its "c:\Program Files\Telelogic\DOORS 7\data". Backup this entire folder. Restore it to the new location. Load the Server and point to this location. Start DOORS, it should pickup where it left off.

This has worked in v5 and v6. I don't know what to think about the "DB Version" number

I don't understand "application specific files", but the above WILL copy DOORS "configuration" files.

Hi Andrew,

If your moving the data from DOORS 6 to DOORS 7, you should just be able to copy the data folder stored in C:\Program Files\Telelogic\DOORS 6\data to the new server under the same directory, just replacing the DOORS 6 with DOORS 7. The only catch is that you will have to log in as Administrator in DOORS to migrate the data. Hope that helps.

Don't forget to turn off the v6 server BEFORE copying the files. Otherwise they'll still be locked and the v7 server won't be able to run.

Hi Andrew,
it's correct: If you stick to DOORS7 you just stop the server, copy the data directory and start the new server. Even when going from 6 to 7 you can do the same, but must first log in as Administrator to launch the migration.
Cheers,
Bernd
PS.: Having made a copy from a data directory without shutting down the server leaves you at least with some 'lock' files in the data directory.

I'm trying to do the same however, on a Solaris 9 system. I've moved the data however, only the user database shows anything on a Windows PC client. Is there something else that needs to be down, other than just copying the data over to a new server?

To fix the 'lock' problem after copying data from a running DOORS database, delete the servdata.dtc from the newly copied data folder.

I'm trying to do just this but it's not working because all the documents in
the \data directory contain the old server name in their document properties.
How do I get around this?

THanks,
Tara

Delete the serverdata.dtc file from the data directory, then restart the service.

I swear that I tried this already based on previous appends, but it hasn't been
working. Will give it a go once more and report what I see.
Thanks for trying to help.

I still have the same problem. One thing I notice is that there are several .dtc
files...and none of them is named serverdata.dtc. Wanted to give you a screenshot of
my data directory, but douldn't make the cut and paste work for this purpose.

Names of .dtc files in my data directory:
o1000000.dtc
servdata.dtc (which is what I tried deleting.)
server_settings.dtc

Is it possible they all have to be deleted?

Thanks again,
Tara

P.S. at this point DOORS won't even start.
The error message says something about not being able to find the
server on the new server name...even though I just installed it.
