Does anyone know if DOORS keeps track of the time users logout? If yes, where is the information stored. Thank you in advance.

DOORS only tracks login times.

There is also no "logout trigger" so you cannot do it yourself. I've already submitted an enhancement request on this issue.

Never-the-less, I suspect either the Server or the Lisence manager could be made to do it.

Daniela,

There is a way to make the DOORS DDBS server record the login and logout events.

Start the DDBS server with the "-logfile PATH" option, where PATH is the full file path to the log file you want to generate. Example: "-logfile C:\logfile.txt"

This is documented in the "Using DOORS" (v6) manual in the "Summary of command line switches" section, althought the manual is unclear that the server can use this option. For a Windows server setup, one would likely set up a Registry setting instead of a command line switch. For DOORS 6, the Windows Registry entry should be placed in

My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Telelogic\DOORS_Server\6.0\Config

The resulting logfile will have connections and exiting events logged in pairs, although the pairs might not appear sequentially in the logfile.

Thu Dec 14 09:23:04 2000: process 976773602 connected (XXXXXX@YYYYYY)
...
Thu Dec 14 17:48:27 2000: process 976773602 exiting (XXXXXX@YYYYYY)

where XXXXXX is the "User name" and YYYYYY is the "Computer name" (non-DOORS specific network identifiers).

The same "Computer name" identifiers are recorded in the "$DOORSDATA/hierarchy/logs/login_history.txt" that is automatically generated by DOORS, so one could coordinate entries in both files to associate connection and exit events with user names in DOORS.

One other option is to purchase a copy of SamReport from MacroVision (formerly GlobeTrotter) which will let you report on the FlexLM logs. This is actually a pretty good tool for letting you see your usage rates and other data related to licensing.

Cheers,
Chris

Chris,

SamReport is a good suggestion for those that only use a floating license pool. For those that have node-locked and dongle users, the SamReport would only show users pulling licenses from the floating FlexLM license pool.
