I'm mostly an administrative and DXL guy, I actually don't use Module's GUI all that much. As such, I'm not sure the best way to make manual links.
We've got some overrideable link-set pairings defined, but I see the DOORs manual says overrideable ones are not used when the user creates links, DOORS Links is used. The Create Links dialog looks hopeless since you have to constantly redefine the desired link module. I've got one user who when making links, changes his default link module to the link module he cares about, and then creates links. I was wondering if there is some more convenient method for normal users to create links in the correct link module, presumably via drag and drop. - Louie |

You could write a dxl script that will clean up the link by routing the links thru desired link modules -- then the user wouldn't have to worry about the link modules. The clean up script can be executed periodically to clean up the links.

Louie,
I agree that a dxl script could clean things up, but perhaps a better way for the future would be to make the linksets mandatory and not overrideable. Then create standard link modules and use them to establish your RTM. This works very well for us here, when we can get people to link their requirements. ------------------------- David A. Sounds like there is no real way for the user to do it conveniently. My partners method (change default link module) sounds like a good solution.
Seems real odd that "overrideable" means "cannot be used conveniently". I would that thought that "overrideable" meant that's where they go by default, but the user may use the create links dialog to put them somewhere else. - Louie |

Hi Louie,
defining linkset pairings which are mandatory is the way for the user to do linking conveniently, because the definition of linkset pairings is admin work; the user is not involved. Out of the user's view the effect is: he or she creates a link from his source module to a desired target without any need to consider the correct place for the link's storage. If he or she tries to link to a target where no linkset pairing is defined for (because links from the current source to this target are not allowed by the process model!), DOORS generates a message accordingly. Yup, mandatory.
I wonder what's the use of "overrideable" linkset pairings if they are not the default, the user's default link module is the default. Overrideable should mean its the default but users can explicitely choose another links set in the CreateLinks tool, or in DXL. - Louie |

If you want a 'default but you can choose something else' option then don't check either the 'Overrideable' or the 'Mandatory' checkboxes.

If you define a linkset pairing that is neither mandatory nor overrideable then DOORS does use it as the default. It seems as though 'Overrideable' means overrideable by the 'Default link module' setting.

Ahhhhh HAA! I thought the programmers just goofed having both options on the dialog, since it was "obvious" that if it wasn't mandatory that it must be overrideable.
So if I leave both unchecked then creating links goes to the LinkSet Pairing, if any. Very nice, thanks. - Louie |
