Is there a way to give user delete permission but not the purge permission?

I don't think so.

The other oddity I've encountered (if I recall correctly) is that in order for someone to move an object, they have to have delete access (edit acess isn't enough).

There is no way to seperate the two using only the GUI (as of DOORS 8.1). The only thing you can do is:

1. Create a group for people who are allowed to Purge (ie. PurgeOK).

2. Edit the DXL that creates the menu item in DOORS:

a. Add a function (returns a bool) to check if: the user is part of the admin group OR a part of the PurgeOK group OR the "Administrator"

b. at the part of the DXL where the purge option is being created, add a check (if statement) that calls the added function. If it returns true, add the "Purge" menu item.

Have fun!
