I went to Borders online and to Barnes N' Noble, locally, to find any books on DOORS, i.e. books for the average user.  IMHO, the manuals provided by Telelogic only provide the bare-bones, barely-get-started, information.  I'm looking for something that has tips, tricks, techniques, example dxl codes for getting things done. I'm looking for something like "Dummies Guide to DOORS".

Anyone have any leads?  Have a good weekend!

Thanks, Vince Black, Requirements Engineer

Vince,

There isn't one that I know of, and I've thought about writing one for a few years now.

Telelogic's books are barebones so that they can sell you consulting. And in all fairness, they do tend to document what the software functions are pretty well. It's HOW TO USE the software functions in the best manner that requires consulting.

Every project is different, and on top of that, management and others who do research on DOORS get sold on customization via DXL and instantly want that, without even understanding the basics. I've seen this a few times and it's alarming.

Anyhow, if you have some specific questions, I'll try to answer them as best I can (as will others). I'll also be providing a link here very shortly that may help you out in the future.

The best DOORS reference is right here, this forum is what gets us all started I would guess. I have written a 'DOORS 101' guide myself for internal use within my company, but in reality it contains nothing that is not already in the manual. I found that the advantage here was that many users were put of by the thick manual, but would use a 'quick flip' guide with a set of one page 'how to' guides for common problems, e.g., "How to copy a hierarchy from Module A to Module B". Will see about posting that here once I have removed anything company specific. Perhaps others could add to it or combine with their own.
