Hi,

I'm working for a company that delivers the DOORS client to most users via CITRIX - however - there is some sort of side effect that prevents users from adding words to the Client and Database dictionaries.

Users that have the DOORS client installed on thier PC don't have this problem, only users who receive the DOORS client remotely via CITRIX.

The Client dictionary problem I can understand because this dictionary is stored in the users "Documents and Settings" profile area on the PC that has the DOORS client which in this case is the CITRIX server. Users are usually prevented from accessing their profile areas on the CITRIX server as this can be confused with a users profile area on their desktop PC.

As far as I know, the Database dictionary resides with the database server so I cannot see why users would be prevented from having access to it via CITRIX.

Any takers on what might be the problem here?

For the client dictionary to work under citrix, you must allow users access to their profile area on the server. You cannot force doors to put the dictionary files anywhere else - I know because I have tried.

Client dictionaries actually work BETTER under citrix than on an ordinary client server setup.
This is because the client dictionary is truly user-specific, not client specific.

I suspect that your problems with the database dictionary are caused by the users not having access permission to the doors data folder.

As it turns out - I has a closer look at the folders that DOORS installs in the Program Files area, it looks as though DOORS uses it's "Tmp" directory to cache data including data when using the Client and Database dictionaries - users must have write access to this directory - this particular company had a policy of only providing read and execute rights to the Program Files area on their CITRIX servers so this was the problem.

You can get around that issue by adding the following code to startup.dxl.

This re-assigns the temp folder used by doors to one in the user's own workspace.
