Hello Michael,

You cannot migrate data directly from DOORS 5.x to DOORS 7.1. Data must first
be migrated to directly to DOORS 6.0 SR1 format. It can then be migrated to
DOORS 7.1. You do not have to upgrade all of your DOORS 5.x clients to DOORS
6.0 SR1. Only the DOORS 5.x database needs to be migrated.

" For more information refer to the DOORS Installing and Setting Up Guide,
which is available from the DOORS/ERS documentation CD and from the website at
http://support.telelogic.com.

As documented in the manual:

We recommend you migrate your data in the following way.

1. Install a DOORS 6.0 SR1 Complete Server Installation, accepting the default
data directory.
2. Copy your DOORS 5.x database to this default location.
3. Run DOORS 6.0 SR1.
4. Log in as Administrator.
5. Click Confirm to migrate your data.

Note: You do not need to load and save your data as was necessary to complete
the migration to DOORS 6.0 from DOORS 5.x. The migration to DOORS 7.1 from
DOORS 6.0 SR1 completes the migration process.

Hello,

Can this be done directly? I have created an instance of the DOORS database (7.1) on a new server. I have stopped the original 5.2 database service and copied the 'Data' folder to the new location. When I go to start the new database, I get an error in the Application event log on the Windows 2000 server:

"The description for Event ID ( 1 ) in Source ( DOORS Server 00001 ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: -E-: Error failed to initialize database: Incompatible database format."

Do I need to migrate to V6 first??

thanks,
Mike

Michael,

Do take not of this thread before starting migration. The documentation is not entirely accurate for the case when you migrate from 5.2 to 7.x .The step missing in the doc is that you need to open/save all modules either after migration to 6 or after accessing the database from the 7.x client the first time to avoid poor module load performance.

I also questioned this missing step and was advised by Telelogic Australia that the need to run the so called "Module Migrator" DXL script was not necessary if migrating from v5 to v6 and on to v7. I havn't noticed any performance problems with opening/saving modules but I would be interested in what others have experienced.
