Does anyone know if it is yet possible to baseline a link module?
Trying to take a snapshot of a a DOORS project, but would like to take advantage of the baseline signatory capability. To do this I assume I have to baseline each and every module (painful) but unless I can also baseline the links this "snapshot" will be useless in the future. Current version is DOORS 6, going to 7 soon.... thanks Also, is there a way to baseline a project? I found an article in the archives of the website referrring to this capability but I don't believe it is possible. |

Link modules contain only link set data, and no link information. Link information is store in the source module. Suggest you store the link information in an attribute (good habit to be able to restore links in any way lost), which then becomes automatically part of your snapshot.
DOORS 7 knows the notion of baseline sets, but we haven't used it yet. Dono if you can baseline a project with it. ------------------------- Pieter de Waard www.nhindustries.com Edited: 25-Aug-2004 at 08:04 by Pieter DE WAARD |

Ken,
The assumption of not baselining link modules is correct. However there is a an alternative to consider if you wish to capture a snapshot of the project at a moment in time, until you move to DOORS 7.1. Take an 'archive' of your project when you wish to capture it. This essentially produces a 'zipped 'copy of your project at that point in time. This can be restored into a different area if and when required. This should be considered a temporary measure as there is an unpublished limit on the amount of files that can be produced by the archive function, assuming you do not have hundreds of modules you should however be okay. DOORS 7 will allow you to create baseline sets with linking baseline to baseline so capturing your linkage at the point in time it is required. However neither option will immediately get around the fact that if you require e-signature then this I believe will still need to be done for individual modules. I also seem to remember it was possible to baseline projects (possibly DOORS 4), not sure when this went away! Anyway recommend the move from DOORS 6 as soon as possible!!!!! The reason for saving links in an attribute is to allow links to be recreated by using the "Create links from attribute" function. Curiously, Telelogic do not provide a "save links as attribute" menu option.
Luckily, there is a kitchen script that will do this for you. This script saves the absolute numbers of the target objects in a text attribute. The target module and link module names are also stored in a module level attribute, although this is less important as these can be selected manually when recreating the links. ------------------------- Tony Goodman http://www.smartdxl.com |

Actually such a script in supplied with DOORS. It is DXL library (in module menus Tools / DXL Library).
It is found by the name "Example to a create a Text Attribute that can be used for Link-by-attribute", with a description "It is sometimes useful in transporting DOORS data to store link information as an attribute. This tool creates an attribute, and stores absolute number of linked objects in it. The links can be be recreated using the stand Link-by-attribute tool." ------------------------- Pekka.Makinen@softqa.fi SoftQA Oy -http://www.softqa.fi/ |
