I was wondering if anyone has run into this.

I am trying to setup the e-mail notification in DOORS. The mail server is Exchange 5.5, and there is a smtp address associated with the exchange mail account. My NT user account is associated with the mailbox as well.

I am able to send e-mail using smtp to the mailbox. When I attempt to send e-mail in DOORS (using the CP system) I receive an error “An error has occurred during the automatic e-mail notification process. Could not open a client socket to the specified mail server. Would you like to continue trying to send other mails?” with a Yes/No option.

In DOORS I have set the mail server field with the FQDN of the server, and in the mail account field I have added the e-mail address of the account (smtp address). The current version of DOORS is 7.0 (w/ patch)

I was wondering what settings need to be changed on the mailbox to allow DOORS to use the account.

thank you,

An ignorant stab-in-the-dark: the server doesn't have the right fire-wall open. This won't stop the client from sending emails but should stop the auto-generated ones from the server.

Louie,

Both the Exchange server and the DOORS server sits behind the firewall. I think it might be Exchange expecting some type of authentication, and when that fails I get the error message. Problem is I need the solution to the problem so I can present it to the E-mail support group. They won't just make random changes to the mailbox(issues of security).
