I have a Word document which has cross-references to figures, tables, numbered items, etc. These are links which, when clicked, navigate the reader to the said figure, table, or numbered item. When I import the document, the links disappear. This is OK since DOORS has its own linking functionality. When I export the module to a Word document, however, there is no way to recover the cross-references from the original imported document. Is there a way to preserve cross-reference information?

Neil,

We are evaluating the "WEXP" (Word EXPorter) package of DXL scripts which can handle cross-references. Essentially, you have to put some tag/text into the Object Text where the cross-reference is to appear (i.e. like a Word field) and aim it at the attribute of another Object (i.e. like a Word bookmark).

This has to be done manually but once done, cross-references update automatically when objects are move etc.

Which part of the functionality is this?

In reply to last post, the answer is the DOORS link functionality, i.e. the ability to click on a link and be taken to the referenced object.

WEXP has a "hyperlink" function.

The target of the hyperlink can be a bookmark, which is created upon export by using the "WEXP Export Bookmark" attribute.

The WEXP user's manual gives more details.

Hi,

I tried this using WEXP. What I see is that a bookmark is created in Word (in my case TEST), but the cross reference is not created. I placed the following text in the Object text: [Introduction "#TEST" ].

Does anyone know what I do wrong? (I use Word 2000)
