Just curious....what are the chances that links in one module will not transfer over correctly when migrating to DOORS 8.3 from 7.1? My guess is highly unlikely but just to satisfy a user I wanted to ask the experts!

Kim,
If the upgrade was done either by archiving and restoring a .dpa file, or on the server, all links will be intact. If the upgrade was done by dma files (export dma from DOORS 7, import dma to DOORS 8), then links have to be redone. ------------------------- Kevin Murphy http://www.baselinesinc.com |

Someone does upgrading with archives ???!!!???
Only links within the Project dpa will be preserved, links going outside of course will not. But to answer the question, migrating the databases (by installing higher versions) will have no effect on the links, they will all be preserved. - Louie |

We migrate by copying the data directory because yes we have cross project links. Before I do a migration though I'll create a link matrix with the number of links going to and from and run save link as a backup. When the migration is done I'll check the numbers from the matrix in the new db. It's just a sanity check and doesn't check if any link went a stray but I really can't see how they could because the link references would have to be physically change by human hands or maybe magic picky dust ![]() PS. I also have an object count of each module in the matrix and FYI I've never had a problem. Tim Edited: 8-Jan-2009 at 22:02 by Timothy Dowell |
