I have imported a document from word to DOORS. It is full of figures and tables. I was wondering if I insert a new figure will DOORS automatically renumber all the figures and references that apply to that figure. |

My apologies Chris, but this did make me chuckle.
DOORS is good, but it ain't THAT good. Doors doesn't know anything about the references in Word. They are just lumps of text. It is difficult to know what to do about figure numbers and references. Many people want references that are easy to find in a printed document and object identifiers don't do this for you. One option is to link to the referenced object and use attribute DXL to fetch the paragraph number for you. Table and figure numbers either have to be manually updated, or bite the bullet and use the object identifiers. ------------------------- Tony Goodman http://www.smartdxl.com |

I mean if I insert a a new figure into DOORS, once word is out of the picture. Is there an auto renumber or anything along those lines so it will renumber the figures in DOORS and renumber anytime it is referenced in the DOORS text |

The quick answer, as implied by Tony, is no.
You'll have to do something clever to do exactly what you want. You might be able to do something less clever and get something acceptable (as Tony suggests). An option is to try to determine a way of replacing the Word cross-references with DOORS links, through an appropriately named link module. The figure number could become an attribute of the link. You might then be able to create some DXL (in a trigger - yuk) that could find the references when the module is opened and update the text to match the link attribute. This falls over when there is no reference to a figure of course, so maybe you also need to create a table of figures to force there to be at least one cross-reference/link to each figure. All the above is completely on the fly. Feel free to shoot it down in flames if (when) you spot the flaws... ![]() Paul. ------------------------- Paul dot Tiplady at TRW dot com TRW Automotive |

My favourite would be to make use of the object number. Create a link for every time the table/figure is referenced, and then use a traceability column (with the wizard) to display the object number of the other end of the link. You could get really clever and put that in-line in the text, but it seems like overkill.

My post in this forum, dated same, in the topic below also recommends a robust solution to the sequencing issue, although it requires a bit of scripting.
