No you cannot change the "level(obj)" of an object directly, nor can you change the (paragraph) "number(obj)" nor the "identifier(obj)". These 3 items have some similarities to an object "attribute" but they are not attributes.
The identifier is the object's absolute number combined with the module's "prefix". The number and level of an object are determined by its relative position in the module's hierarchy. When you move an object its number and level are recalculated. Your options for moving are to find another object and move this one [1] "after" it, meaning its a sibling, or [2] "below" it meaning its a child. That's it. (Moving an object to the top of the module involves moving it after the current first object, then moving the current first one elsewhere). Manually moving objects around is, realistacally, real tricky. You cannot move (nor delete) when sorting or filtering is on. Moving an object moves all its children. Moving is better than cutting and pasting, but not by much. Displaying columns of "number" and "level" is highly recommended. I first set my display level to the minimum of the object being moved and the object being moved to. Moving them around with DXL is only possible if you already know the desired hierarchy and have captured it somewhere. - Louie |
