I have a document template in MS Word. I want to turn this into a DOORS template formal modules.
How do I accomplish this? When I create a new Formal module I can browse through a list of available templates. But I want my custom template to be one of these. I need a step by step at a beginner level pls. Thanks... |

You could create a new template, but that involves writing DXL and if you are after step by step instructions you probably don't want to do that.
My recommendation is that you export from Word to DOORS, to get the module that you want as your template. Create all the attributes you are going to want (comments, req?, owner, priority etc). Save all the useful views that you think you will want. Save the module in a folder called 'templates' or similar. When you want a new module based on the template then just copy and paste. What you get now is much more useful than the in-built templates because you have attributes and views included, and you are not limited to just having headings, you could put guidance text in an attribute so people know what they are supposed to be populating a section with. Make sure that you review the template modules regularly and keep them updated. hth Hazel |

You can create your own templates and have them appear in the list of available templates.
The attached code is a kitchen script that allows you to save the current module heading structure as a template. So, create the heading structure you want, and then run the attached. The file must be saved to the DOORSHOME/standard/templates folder. I suggest creating a new sub folder, say "myTemplates" to hold your own templates. This folder must contain *.idx and *.hlp files in the same manner as addins files. Files must have the same base name as the folder they are in, e.g. myTemplates.idx and myTemnplates.hlp. The first line in the hlp file is what is displayed in thr template browser. Subsequent lines are displayed when the template is selected in the browser. Each line in the idx file contains a mapping between the dxl file name and the name displayed in the browser. e.g. template1 _ _ Template One This line associates the displayed string "Template One" with script in template1.dxl. The two underscores, separated by a space are necessary. ------------------------- Tony Goodman http://www.smartdxl.com |
