Answer:
Guess is that it has to load all those other modules and their objects, and you ran out of virtual space on your client.

Hi -

I am using ....

Version : DOORS 7.1
Build Number: 71122
Build Date : July 13 2004 14:31:55

And it took about 7.5 hours to baseline a module having 51,355 objects. The last time this module was baseline was roughly April 10, 2004, and it didn't take nearly as long. However, I was using DOORS 7 then.

My questions are ...

1) Has anyone noticed an increase of time to baseline a module in DOORS7.1?
2) What are the factors that determine the time it takes to baseline a module besides the date the module was last baseline?
3) What can be done to decrease the time to baseline?
4) Does the number of links going "through" this module affect the time? Anyone know how to count the total amount of links going "through" a module?

Thanks for your time and any input given.

Hi --

I managed to count the amount of links going "through" this module, and the total count is in the 300 k range. After running some tests I have determine the cause of the long time to baseline this module is cause by the magnitude of the links since DOORS7.1 will baseline the links whenever a module is baseline.

Regards,

I don't think that is the case Louie. I did it on a machine that has 2 Xeon processors and 4 gigs of ram. The virtual ram on the machine is optimized for optimal performance.

Hold on here - when you baseline a module in v7.x, as far as I know, the links are not also baselined. The links are only baselined if you are using the Baseline Sets feature where a group of modules and their links can be rolled into a single baseline. If we're talking about how long it takes to roll-up a Basline set, then I would agree, this can take an inordinate amount of time, even for a small group of modules with only a couple of hundred links.

Paul this is not true. I have checked w/Telelogic and whenever a module is baseline in DOORS7+ the links are also baseline as well no matter if the baseline is part of a baseline set.
