We recently migrated from Windows 2000 to XP. We are running both DOORS 7.1 and 8.1 simultaneously.
In Word, click on the DOORS icon to export to DOORS. Pop-up dialog box appears Click Export This error message appears: "Unable to communicate with DOORS. DOORS must be started, and you must have opened a project or folder" Already checked to see that we were using the 7.1 doors template and not 8.1. Yes, we have a 7.1 DOORS database started and a folder selected. Any suggestions???? Thanks, Raphelle Guy Boeing |

Hi Raphelle,
you could try to use oleview from Windows Resource Kit Tools to find out, if your DOORS-OLE-Server is working correctly. When you have installed the tool kit, you should run oleview.exe, in the tree on left side please select Automation Objects (in Grouped by Component Category). There you should find a DOORS Application Object, when you double click on it - a doors session should be started (if not was running before ![]() In the right window part you may see which Doors is used for ole automation. I hope this will help you a little bit to debug ![]() Greetings Reik ------------------------- Evosoft GmbH for Siemens Industry Sector Berlin, Germany |

The 'doors.dot' file contains the Word-to-DOORS push macro available in Word. When DOORS installed on my client I notice it put the 'doors.dot' here:
>>> C:\Documents and Settings\landalo\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP. I notice an additional copy in the DOORS install folder here: >>> C:\Program Files\Telelogic\DOORS 7.1\lib\word. If you've never dealt with Word Templates and Addins then find someone who has. Be advised that when I say open a *.dot file, I mean open Word and then use the File >Open command; don't find the *.dot in explorer and double-click on it (that won't open it, it instead starts a blank file). I think this is what I did: Verify all the various doors.dot files exist in the install folders exist. Delete whatever doors.dot is in your Application data. Copy the first doors.dot file from the install directory to the applicatation directory above, renaming it when it gets there to perhaps 'doors_v71.dot'. Open word, then open the doors-v71.dot file. Customize the interface, turning off the 'doors' tool bar. Define a new command in the 'tools' menu featuring the 'macro' from the doors.dot file. Their names are long and you cannot read them, but you need the one that says 'do Export' or something like that. Save doors-v71.dot. close word. Then go to the next doors.dot, perhaps doors-v81.dot. Close out word. Now open Word, then load your normal.dot file, which for me is installed here: C:\Documents and Settings\landalo\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates Under Tools >Templates and Addins, browse around for all the doors.dot files you dealt with above, and add each one. Save normal dot and exit word. Perhaps this is where you will want to remove the doors toolbars, leaving only doors exporter in the Tools menu. When you export be sure to use the correct Tools >Doors Export command; which should now be labeled. - Louie |
