Answer:
I was in fact looking for the document " "How to Write Word Documents for Easy Import into DOORS" by Jeremy Dick, Keith Collyer, Ken Jackson & Ian Zimmermann Version 1, 2 April 2004". Thank you for the name, Mary.

The support people mailed me the whitepaper yesterday.

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions.

Hi,

I had once come across a document that dealt with how to format a word document before exporting it to DOORS. I'm not able to recollect the exact title, but I think it more or less gave you suggestions on how to format the doc so it showed up as per your requirement in DOORS.

Hello Uma,

Telelogic has a White Paper entitled "How to Write Word Documents for Easy Import into
DOORS" by Jeremy Dick, Keith Collyer, Ken Jackson & Ian Zimmermann
Version 1, 2 April 2004. It is a 15 page document on structuring documents for import into DOORS.

Briefly: view the Word document map. Those object shown are the ones that will be headings in DOORS. If you see a regular text paragraph therein, click on it then change that paragraphs properties 'Outline Level' to text. If you don't see a desired paragraph (looks like a heading but isn't in the map), then change its outline level to whatever level you want.

Search for every EOL in word; as thats the delimitor for each object. If you see several word paragraphs that you want in the same object, then replace their EOLs with LF, cntl-enter in word.

Good luck with tables and diagrams. I'd cut each one, create an embedded word object in its place, then paste it into that word object. When imported its comes in as an OLE which is much easier to deal with.

If you can't hunt down a copy of the paper - send me an email and I will fwd one to you (pmiller@eurocyber.biz) - please note though that the paper assumes that you're starting out with Word where you have an opportunity to structure and format the document in a manner that is conducive to an easy export to DOORS. The difficult scenario is when you're given a MSWord document where the author has had a real good hack at it and used every bell and whistle feature that MSWord can muster. These require a significant amount of prep work to unscramble the format and remove formatting features that DOORS doesn't support.

Can someone post the paper here?

Why can't Telelogic, an IBM Company, make this stuff available for all customers?

I finally found the paper in Telelogic's web page.

There is a 15 minutes Interactive Corporate Presentation:

Solutions>Application Lifecycle Management>Change Management>View a presentation on how Telelogic solutions help improve the systems and software development process

http://www.telelogic.com/campaigns/corpbrochure/

In this presentation several White Papers are attached while viewing the Presentation. The paper is included there as well.

Thanks,

Silvia Mangas

And if you open the mouse right button menu on that item there is a function there to Copy link, which gives you on clipboard (after some cleaning):

http://www.telelogic.com/download/get_file.cfm?id=3664

...which is a direct pointer to this file on Telelogic web site. It is odd that Telelogic support could not point to this location for customers asking this file.

BTW, if you change the id-number in the above URL you get some other files, sometimes errors, but it seems that there is plenty of files behind that address, maybe parts of the the old Resource Center?
