We are the 'home' database with ownership of higher level requirements modules. The 'away' database owns the lower level requirements modules.  We are using Link-By-Attribute.

We would like to synchronize both ways, but it seems that a limitation of Partitioning is flowing changes in the higher level requirements to the 'away' database.  Would we create two partitions? One for the RMCDA lower level requirements modules and one for the R higher level modules and send both partitions to the away team?

Would archiving work better, even though Telelogic recommends against that? We would archive our higher level modules and send to the away team for restore, and they would archive their lower level modules and send to us for restore.

Alas, share level access to the home database is not allowed for the away team.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

what you are talking about is a quite usual situation: there is a higher level specification which has to be used as a traceability anchor for the detail specifications, and, the responsibles for the high level specification are interested in the detail specifications' status and their traceability.

Quite often, the both specification levels are developed by different organizations which use different databases. As there is development and change on both sides, it is necessary to update the specifications in both databases.

The best way to achieve that (and a quite reliable one) is the use of the DOORS add-on product "DOORS eXchange". This product allows to generate an exchange file from the home database module. If this file is imported to the corresponding module copy in the away database, the copy's content is synchronzied with the original's content concerning object changes, deletions and creations. Doing the latter, eXchange assures that the newly created objects in the copy will have the same Absolute Numbers as they have in the home DB original.

Refer to Telelogic for more information about the product.

Hope I could help you,

Best Regards
Toni

Toni

I searched the Telelogic website, but only found one reference to DOORS eXchange 3.0 on the German Automate site. This was in an archive and I could not pull it up.  I was also contacted by a Telelogic rep who was unfamiliar with this tool. Do you have any more information?

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

indeed, eXchange is German add-on to DOORS (but not restricted to use in Germany).

I recommend your local Telelogic representative should contact Telelogic Germany's Professional Services to find out more about licensing and use of this tool for you.

I could also try to get more information; if you want me to help, please send me an email (Toni Drexler).

Regards
Toni

First let me say I'm not on Telelogic's payroll! But we use eXchange within TRW (I personally don't, but others do). They tell me it's not perfect, but it works. I have a presentation from Telelogic regarding it's intended use and capabilities, which I can email to anyone who wants a copy - paul dot tiplady at trw dot com.

As Toni says, get your rep to get in touch with Telelogic Germany, or failing that, try Richard Crisp (richard dot crisp at telelogic dot com) - he's director of strategic consulting (or he was when I got his business card...)

Cheers,
Paul.
