Good morning I'm getting myself involved in some more complex DXL utilities and have the need to interact more closely with MS Excel. I'm wondering if anyone could point to a toolkit and/or reference guide for Excel 2003 OLE Automation. I've checked out Mike Sutherland's "Enhanced Export", but it's only good if I want to "copy" code...I need something that I can educate myself with...something that will be a good read for starting a barebones script. The DXL Help in DOORS get's me only a small amount of this help...(I'm surprised they still provide examples for Excel 95/97)... Microsoft's Office webpage may be a good start...I just don't know where to "dig" on it. --John

A good starting point is the Microsoft Excel Object Model and Microsoft Word Object Model for a list of Objects, Methods, Properties, and Events. Even though it falls under Office XP, I was successful in using the reference guide for Office 2000.

You'll use the DXL functions olePut, oleGet, and oleMethod to access the VBA. I discovered a lot by looking at the Word exporter included with DOORS and then trial and error until I got something that worked. You can also open Word/Excel and record a Macro of the task you're trying to automate, then look at the resulting VBA code and try to translate it into DXL calls.

The Object Browser is also useful within the Office Applications to browse Objects, Methods, Properties, and Events.
