I'm trying to find out if there is any way, in DOORs, to include the "Object Number" and "Object Heading" from one record to be included as text in another record. As I'm writing my requirements I have found that a number of requirements are applicable to different requirements (system, validation, ... ). Instead of repeating the same requirements for each message (each message has its own section), I would rather create a common section of a document that contains these requirements. Then when I write the requirements for a message, I would then refer to that common section of the document. What I'm trying to avoid is to have to manually enter the Section # and Header for the requirements in the message section. I'm looking for a DOORs feature that would allow me to include as text the "Object Number" and "Object Header" from that common section as text in the requirement (think if this as a cross-reference). Then if the "Object Number" changes or I change the "Object Header" text, DOORs would automatically update the requirements that cross-referenced the section.

I'm trying to avoid having to manually enter (and maintain) the Section # and Heading text that would be entered into the requirements for each message.

I don't think "links" will work, because link information is not carried into the generated PDF file. I would expect that when I generate a PDF file, the message section requirement would contain the correct Section # and Header.

FYI - The cross-reference feature in MS Word has the same concept.

Please let me know, if this is not clear to you.

On Tony Goodman's website there is a paper that he presented at the Indoors forum that may help you with this subject.

Are you using a script to generate a PDF? If so, modify it to carry the link info into the document. Links and Layout or Attribute DXL are the way this is done in DOORS.
