When I export my requirements to either Word, RTF or Text, all my greater than and equal "≥" and less than and equal "≤" symbols become questions marks "?". I originally imported the document from Word. The symbols were entered into the original document using the Insert, Symbol, menu selection in Word. I am using DOORs 7.1. The text appears correct in DOORs, but when I export the objects, all the symbols get corrupted. |

Hi Richard,
Can you recall which symbol table in MSWord you originally used to create these symbols. For example was it the "Latin-1" table or some other exotic table? The reason I ask is that I have had the same problem before and it turned out that if I used symbols from anything other than the MSWord Latin-1 symbol table, then when I exported these to DOORS and then did an export back to MSWord, these symbols would also come out corrupted. I also found that some symbls would initially appear OK in MSWord, but when you forced the MSWord font style (CTRL + Spacebar), the character would change into some other symbol or replaced by a small square symbol. So my advice is to stick with the MSWord Latin-1 symbol table. ------------------------- Paul Miller Specification Practices Specialist, EuroCyber, Melbourne, Australia. I was able to make it work using input from Paul Millers comments. In the MS Word Insert Symbols dialog box, I changed the font from "(normal text)" to "Symbol" and inserted the characters with the selected font. While under "(normal text)", the character codes for the "greater than and equal" and "less than and equal" symbols are 2264 and 2265 respectively. When using the "Symbol" font, they are 179 and 163 respectively. I noticed similar issues when inserting the "theta" character when the font was set to "(normal text)". I believe DOORs 7.1 has issues with double byte (Unicode) characters.

Hi again,
DOORS Version 8.1 claims to be unicode compatible, so I'm hopeing to be rid of this problem once the organisation I'm currently dealing with upgrades to 8.1 ------------------------- Paul Miller Specification Practices Specialist, EuroCyber, Melbourne, Australia. Hi,
We have the same issue when exporting to RTF, only the greater/less-than-or-equal symbols go to a superscript three or a pounds sterling symbol. This is when we've entered these into DOORS using the Insert->Symbol option, haven't tried importing from Word then re-exporting. DOORS seems to use the Symbol font when entering them. We were in hopes that upgrading to 8.1 would fix it, but it doesn't seem to have changed..... Chris |
