Answer:
It is possible to maintain the identifiers in an export / import round trip. You would need to export the absolute number along with all the other information, not forgetting to keep the headings and text separate. If you then create a module with enough objects, you can update existing objects and keep the numbers. You also would need the object nuimber (structural position). You would lose all OLEs I think.

Experiments would be necessary.

Is it possible to export a project or module from version 7 to 5.2?

We have a tool that was developed on 7, but we have a client that's using 5.2. Is there any way we can archive or export the tool in such a way that it can be read into 5.2?

Thanks and regards,
Leighton

Ask your Telelogic sales rep to tell you about DOORS eXchange, which was developed for the German automotive software supply industry (HIS). I'm told (I haven't seen it yet) that it permits selective transfer of modules/projects between all versions (might be just 5.x, 6.x, 7.x) of DOORS, where selective means you can hide selected attributes and selected objects so that they do not exist as far as the 'away' version is concerned. Links and all local attributes/objects are retained.

Down side is it costs money, depending on how many DOORS licences you have (EUR1k - EUR25k).

BTW, I'm not a DOORS sales rep, nor am I on commission!

Paul.

In a word, No!

The only way is to go via a third party tool such as word or excel, but then all your identifiers change.

It might be worth asking Telelogic if their XML importer/exporter supports this.

I guess, the 'German data exchange' tool may solve your problem + at the German UGC Telelogic folks said that they change(d) the license policy for it and 'intend' to give it out for free :-)

However, I kind of doubt that the tool is known outside of Germany ;-)

It's not that well known in Germany!

We wanted to exchange data with one of our partners in Berlin who are running DOORS 5.2 (we are 7.1) and Telelogic told us it is not possible.

I just got off the phone with DOORS technical support. They told me there is no way to go from a later version to an earlier version. I specifically mentioned DOORS Exchange.

How about exporting from version 6 and importing to version 8; a one-way trip? Will that work?
