![]() Answer: Thanks, Pete. I've figured out that the size is not the problem. Each time I do a restore from the top-level project archive I see all of the files unzipped to the temp directory fine. I did isolate a few modules and a couple of folders and when I unselect them to restore, the full restore completes. Trying to figure out why the modules are corrupt now....wish me luck! I may be posting again soon.... ;.) Nols | |

Hello,
Earlier this year I was testing the restore feature to restore live data into my test database and 20 minutes into the restore (which usually takes about an hour), I got an error message that DOORS needed to shutdown, I selected the Debug option after looking at more information on the error and then I got another error saying that the connection to the database server was lost and DOORS was shutting down. I went round and round with tech support on this problem that they could not replicate, but it was not fully resolved. The support tech said that Telelogic did not recommend restoring data into the training database but even after I set up a test database, I got the same problem. Our database is on a Solaris server and I archive the projects to my PC every night. I am working on other alternatives to archive/restore, but I would like to resolve this issue. I want to be sure that I can do a full restore. Before the test restores started failing, the archive project size was around 360MB. the failures started soon after that and the archives are now at 470MB. I can restore 2 of the 3 subprojects, but the 3rd fails. This is not good because the 3rd project is the most important of the 3 and is the main reason we worry about having a problem and needing to restore in the first place. Telelogic assures me that the archive size is not a problem. We have a top level project with our A spec and 3 subprojects nested within so that the subprojects can be linked to the tri-agency system spec and links will be preserved when doing a restore so I can't really reorg the setup. Any advice or similar problems with the restore? For those who have been able to restore using the DOORS utility, is your archive size bigger/smaller than mine? Thanks in advance, ;.) My largest archive is a bit over 406 MB. No problem restoring it.
Suggestions: 1. Try restoring only project 3. If that fails, select X number of modules at a time. You may find a corrupted module. 2. The .dpa file is really a zipped file. Copy the archive and rename to .zip. On your PC run Winzip. You should have a bunch of .dac files. Unzip these to a temporary folder. If that works, then it is probably internal to DOORS. ------------------------- Cliff Bly |

I tried what you said a couple of times today. Project 3 restores first anyway, and I noticed that on my machine when the temp folder, i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\nmorgan\Local Settings\Temp\ar4, reaches 487 MB is where DOORS craps out each time. When I selected only to restore Project 3, another folder C:\Documents and Settings\nmorgan\Local Settings\Temp\ar5 was created and again it crashed at 487 MB. I can see a list of .dac files in these directories and the last file restored in each is 1684.dac. Any tips on how to isolate the problem module by viewing the .dac file(s). I will try the restore with all of the folders except the most important one (of course) and see if that restores...
Appreciate the help and if you have any suggestions, I'll check back soon.... Thanks again! ------------------------- Nolita C. Morgan Computer Systems Analyst NEXRAD Radar Operations Center http://www.roc.noaa.gov/ |

have you ever ran the DOORS Integrity Checker on the database? maybe there are some index problems or other issues that can be auto corrected. just a thought.

Hi Pete - I did just now run the Integrity Checker on the entire database and found 88 problems. I did not use the Wizard to repair because I am paranoid of further corruption. I may try this on our backup database when we have it rebuilt. Any success stories/lessons learned w.r.t. the repair wizard that you can share?
