DOORS has a Link by attribute menu item that is handy for creating any number of links from objects in a module to objects in another module.
Has anyone ever created a similar function that DELETES a subset of the existing links to a module (i.e. not all links) based on a list of object numbers in an attribute?
In other words, A 'Delete by Attribute' function.

Hey Dan. Gonna be at UGC again this year?

Anyway, typically if I have some links based on one thing in a module and other links based on another thing in a module, I use two different link modules. That way I can just delete all the links from that link module when I want to clear them.

But the type of tool wouldn't be too difficult. I think it would just be the reverse of the create links script. Instead of creating a link where the two attributes match, check to see if one exists between the two objects and delete it.

Yes. I'll be there. Looking forward to it.

This is a case of a number of incorrectly made links in the midst of a lot of good links, all thru the same link module.

I was hoping someone had something like it I could snitch. Looks like I'll have to write it. Like you said, not to difficult.
Just pressed for time and hoping... :-)

See you at the UGC.

I'm sure that you have come up with this mod yourself, but here it goes anyway:

I have always thought that a "Delete links created by a certain user" tool would be useful, as well as a "Undo changes made by a certain user last friday afternoon" tool.

I had to write an "Undo changes I made and committed 10 minutes ago" tool a while back
Now my scripts run in dummy mode first - just reporting what they would have changed had they been running properly!

Have been very tempted to implement on all major modification scripts a check-it-out mode that produces a report of what will happen when you progress to make-it-happen mode.

Having said that, I've only seriously goofed twice with a script, and both times the data errors were corrected in less than a day.

Never-the-less, the ADHD OCD process oriented folks used the last goof as 'proof' that we should have serious and rigours version control, documented process, and test server testing done before any modification DXL is allowed to run, even stuff that will only run once. I was not amused. I pointed out that such a system would require months to set up and at least a engineer-month of effort for each DXL, just to avoid once-in-a-while an error that costs only a engineer-day of effort to fix. They were not amused.

This assumes you have link history turned on though. We turn it off for all our modules.

Why do you turn it off David? Are you experiencing a performance problem due to link history records clogging up a modules history files?

We recreate links nightly. So we would yes.
