I would like to fund out if there is any option to kick out users that logged on for long time period.

For example user  that logged on since yesterday (which forgot to close the Doors browser)
The definition can be by hours or days..

My guess is that there is a way to do this, as at the database level, you can define a password reconfirmation period.

However, if one of your users has made changes to a module and then they go to lunch and have some meetings and come back to find themselves kicked out, they are not going to be too happy. Further, it's not good practice to kick a user who is in exclusive edit.

This is really a training issue for your users. Tell them to close DOORS when they aren't using it, and to close modules when they don't need to edit them.

As a last resort, you can have your DOORS daemon restart every night at say, 2am. This will kick out all users, and they won't be able to save their work when they come in the next day. This will teach them not to keep DOORS open.

Not sure if you are looking for an automated way of doing this or manual, but you can use the dbsadmin tool to kick them out manually.....Just make sure they haven't been pulling an all nighter first.

We access DOORS via Citrix which allows you to set an idle timeout (ours is currently set to 1 hour) via Windows Terminal Services Configuration.

Citrix also provides other user management facilities, e.g.:
- Limit the number of instances of the DOORS application, e.g. to partition the licenses based on user group. Say you had a DB shared with a contractor, you could limit them to using only 50% of the DOORS licenses.
- Allow only one instance of the DOORS application per user.

If you have installed the doors service on a computer, there exists two such tools in the /bin/ folder (the one that contains doors.exe): [1] dbsadmin.exe is windows based and [2] dbadmin.exe is DOS based. If you have no local test DOORS databases on your client and you haven't installed the server, you can, I believe, copy those files and use them, they don't have to be 'installed'.

Both requires the port@server information in order to work.

I'm trying to disconnect users from the license server and i have no idea how to do it, I've even tried to showdown the service (FLEXlm) and it didn't work.
I have 15 users that holding a license but only 6 are actually using DOORS.

Please HELP!!

Hi Jon,

If I have read your post correctly - despite restarting the FLEXLm service, you still have the situation where 15 licenses are checked out but there are only 6 known active DOORS users.

If this is the case, then despite having restarted the FLEXlm server, the Telelogic license daemon appears to be receiving license requests from 9 clients that you can't account for. Are you by chance using CITRIX or some other thin client system to remotely deliver the DOORS client app to users?

If yes, then it's possible that there are 9 remote connection sessions where the DOORS client was activated, but the connection session has not closed down properly.

Even if you're not using a thin client delivery system, you will need to find out who these 9 client sessions are assigned to.

An easy way to find out is to look at the very beggining of your FLEXLm log file. When you restarted FLEXLm, the log file contents would have been purged so that it's starts with a clean new log. If there are 9 active hidden clients that are causing you grief, then these clients will attempt to poll the license server after the restart, the license server will reply that they don't have a license, each of the clients will then attempt to check-out a new license. These recorded check-outs should be near the top of the FLEXlm log and they should identify the users network login name and the name of either the thin client host or the users PC. This should help you and your IT people track down where these license requests are coming from.

When a client checks-out a license, this is recorded in the log. From this point fwd the client will continue to periodically poll the license server to confirm that the assigned license is still available and valid. When a user closes the DOORS client, this will be recorded in the log as a check-out.
