We just recently migrated all of our stand alone DOORS 7.1 data to DOORS (also 7.1) on a classified server. I tried to submit a change proposal and received the error: "A change proposal system does not exist for this project". I went to the main DOORS explorer and tried to look at the Set Up section, however it was grayed out. The only option available was "Submit Suggestion..." which also produces this error. I contacted our help desk about the problem and was told that there are emails sent when a change is made and they have not figured out a way to do so (since it is all classified). Is this correct? Can the change proposal system not be established unless you have email in place? This did not sound right to me. If someone could explain the set up of the change proposal system to me a little bit, maybe I wouldn't feel so confused!!... |

Let me guess. You archived the unclass project and restored it into the existing classified database.
A perfectly reasonable as that appears to be, it doesn't work because the access records and users don't migrate. When you define a user as a CP manager, DOORS stores that info in the form of the User's ID, perhaps #3Fa. Well, user #3FA in the classified database either doesn't exist or is someone else. I'm pretty sure you'll need to Reconfigure CPS starting as the Administrator. I think you'd first create CPS and define some user, yourself, as a CP manager. Then log in as yourself and proceed to define all the other users. I doubt it will matter that some folks CPs will no longer be associated with them, nor will they be allowed to edit them. I think, without evidece, you can still 'apply' a CP that was originally created by user #3Fa even though there is no such user in the new database. - Louie PS. You will no doubt be experiencing lots of user access problems with your stuff in the new database. While Module and Object accesses are reset to 'Inherited', other accesses within the module are not: views, attrDefs, attrVals, and attrTypes are going to be hosed up. If user #3FA was the only one who could modify an attr, well now nobody can. You'll need to plow through everything changing access records first to Inherieted, and then back to what you want. You'll need to be the Administrator to do that. Gratefully, they fixed this glaring 'feature' in v81. |

Thanks for your response!
Actually, for the migration, we copied the entire data directory and had our host put it on the server. Everything has been working fine, except for this. We have gone through most modules and views and it all seems to be great. I just cannot seem to understand why they (our help desk) are having issues just setting up the change proposal system. I guess I am just trying to gain a better understanding of how you set it up, and why you would need email for it.... Lonie |

Odd. We migrated and CPS worked just fine.
At one point we had Email notification working, but when we got struck with the v7.1 patch 10 database corruption issue, we lost that capability and nobody could recall how to set it up. The 'email' part is in the DB properties, you can activate it in each project's CPS, and each user can opt in or out. If you migrated to Classified then surely none of the unclassified Email properties would work; the network-email names are unavailable. I'd try to disable the DB properties for Email, disable them for CPS, just in case that's what's preventing CPS from working (but I doubt it). After disabling, then attempt to re-enable it. Are you SURE they simply just dumped the unclass db file system onto the classified location, and fired up the service? Everyone had the same user name and password no problem? Everyone? Or did perhaps this database already exist, and they archived the users, replaced with the unclassified, then restored the users? Or do perhaps the Classified folks use system user names to login and had to create all those users to match the Classified login? - Louie |

We never had email notification set up in the first place. We had a stand alone classified database here at our office with about 4-5 users (no real need for it). We took the data directory from this database and gave it to the host in order to restore it on the server. Prior to this, they set up new user accounts on the server for all of us. Our log on information was not the same as when it was on the stand alone machine. (Forgive me if my terminology is incorrect - I am trying to explain the best I can with limited knowledge!)
If they were to turn off this email notification option, could they set up the change proposal system? |

They may be trying to create a cps system using the admin account.
Help manuals says: To create a change proposal system: 1. Log in to DOORS as a Database Manager or a Custom user who has the power to create users. Note: The Administrator user cannot create a Change Proposal System. |

I'm not exactly following, but I think you said this: Database A had data and worked OK. Database B had users but no data. You copied the A database file hierarchy and restored it to the B location, erasing whatever was there.
Understand that when you copy the hierchy and replace an existing one, the old one is gone and is replaced with an exact copy of that original. Specifically, any 'prior' user accounts created are gone. If after that the edited the users, deleting the old names and re-creating new names, then of course any CPS system that used the old names won't be useable. It won't matter if a new name e.g. 'landall' is associated with the same person as the old, e.g. 'landalo'. In fact, it won't matter if the new name is spelled the same way, its a different user. Its entirely possible they deleted all the CPS database managers for your CPS project, in which case I don't think it will be useable. I doubt the 'Administrator' can straighten that out. If that's what happened, you can resolve it like this: Dump the user database along with each user's unique ID. User use; for usr in userList do {loadUserRecord(usr); print usr.name "\t" usr.identifier "\n"} Edit the CPS module that houses the users; I don't recall its name. View outline which shows Headings, and each Heading represents a differnt user. Insert the new User identifiers in place of the old, I think in the Object Text. Consider changing other attributes, such as wether a user is a CPS manager. You may need to replicate these changes in each CPS 'Proposals' module. Yuuuck, good luck. - Louie |

What if???? You wanted to notify more than one person, after submitting a change request. Do any have or can you even modify with DXL to send notifications to multible users????
