There is a utility on the DOORS support page do encrypt dxl, however this software is only for version 8.0 and 8.1 (at least that's what the documentation says).
Does anyone know if there is a version to use with DOORS 7.1? There are what appear to be encrypted include files as part of the installation so I assume that there must be an encrypter somewhere. Thanks, Michael. |

There are lots of encryptors for DOORS 7, but you will have to part with some cash for one, I think they are about £200 if my memory serves me. Search this forum or the NET to find one.

If you want to pass me your code I can encrypt so it works for DOORS 7.1. I have a unamed utility, and I'm going to leave it at that. I haven't looked at what Telelogic recently released to the public though. ------------------------- pete.kowalski(at)motorola.com |

Pete,
Thanks for the offer but I will need a solution on an ongoing basis. The help for the Telelogic encrypter says that you put the 3 characters //< at the start of the file to be encrypted and then encrypt. I did that but the encrypted file isn't recognised by v7.1; it does work for v8.1 (got someone to try it for me). Either the encrypter is v8.x specific or the 3 lead characters are different for version 7.x. I suspect the latter as v7.x encrypted files can still be read by v8.x. Why they (Telelogic) wouldn't support 7.1 users in the same way is beyond me. Thanks, Michael. |

My understanding is that ALL versions of DOORS that encrypted files will be decrypted by the application if the first three characters of the file are "//<"
It sounds to me with the public encryption utility that Telelogic provides it probaly automatically adds some code to not work with any version previous to 8.1. I don't know if Telelogic still officially supports DOORS 7.1 and below and trying to make everyone to upgrade to 8.1 here... ------------------------- pete.kowalski(at)motorola.com |

Hi.
There's a tool called Qcrypt which is offered by a Telelogic TAP partner. It can be used for a trial period and then you have to pay. Regards, Ewen Miller |

DOORS 8 uses a different encryption algorithm to that employed in earlier versions.
However, DXL encrypted using the old algorithm still works on DOORS 8. This is not true the other way round. DXL encrypted using their new algorithm will not work on DOORS 7. Beware that third party suppliers of encryption software will only have the OLD algorithm, not the new one. I am not sure how long Telelogic will continue to support the old algorithm, i.e. how long will DOORS recognise DXL encrypted using the old algorithm. So don't lash out loads of cash on an encryptor. Telelogic use the convention that scripts beginning with "//<" get encrypted, otherwise they do not. This makes no difference to decryption by the interpreter. As Telelogic are now offering an encryptor for free, there seems no harm in giving away my DXL encryptor. See Smart DXL. Again this uses the old algorithm, but it is a robust and useful tool for encrypting mulitiple files and it is free. ------------------------- Tony Goodman http://www.smartdxl.com Edited: 10-Nov-2006 at 10:59 by Tony Goodman |
