Hi -
I'm having some problems turning inheritance off for new object that are created for this function. -- void createObjects(Module theModule,Object theObject){ current = theModule for(i=0; i<10; i++){ Object newObjectCreated= create below theObject newObjectCreated."Object Text" = "I am a new object" // should turn off inheritance string inherited({Object newObjectCreated},[AttrType off]) } -- Could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks ![]() ------------------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The inheritance of Object attributes is controlled at the attribute definition level. If you wish to "turn off inheritance", you must do this by editing the attribute definition, thereby turning it off for all of the Objects in the Module.
If you want a specific Object attribute value to be not inherited, instead of trying to turn off the inheritance (which can not be done Object by Object), simply set the value to something. Because the value is explicitly set for that attribute, inheritance will be "off" and the Object will not receive the value from its parent. It will propogate its value to its children if the child does not also explicitly set the value. eg, newObjectCreated.attribute="something" In most cases, I do not use inheritance or default value when defining attributes. There are reasons to turn these flags on, but more reasons to turn them off. -Dennis Edited: 11-Jun-2003 at 21:03 by Dennis Lockshine |
