A customer has a DOORS DB generated by DOORS 5.2. Can an archive be restored by DOORS 8.3? Or does it have to be restored in 6, then 7 first.

Why not try to restore the archive on an 8.3 server and see what happens?

Are you saying [1] 'archive' the v52 database, or are you saying [2] take a module/project v52 archive and restore it in a v8.3 database? [1] there is no such thing as an archived database. If you figure to migrate the data then you need to migrate it to v6, using the ModuleMigrator.dxl tool, then migrate it to v7, then migrate it to v8. [2] Restoring old archives should work, but I suspect perhaps you'll have some AccessRights issues to deal with. I'd restore it back into the same v52 database in a temp location, clean out all AccessRights, then archive the clean version, then restore that in v8.3.

I want to take an archive of project in DOORS 5.2 and restore it in 8.3. I have heard that the jump from 5 to 6 requires an extra tool. Is this the ModuleMigrator.dxl tool you refer to? I cannot just try it since I do not have the 5.2.

Yes, the ModuleMigrator tool is used when you MIGRATE an entire database from v5 to v6. It has nothing to do with restoring projects.
I think you can restore v5 projects in a v8 database, without any extra steps. - Louie |

Louie, you are correct. The restore from 5.2 worked fine.
Thanks. |
