We are getting to use DOORS to do some of our Test Cases and I am running into a small problem.

Correct me if I am wrong.

I had a feeling that once I had setup a test case in DOORS "Create / Update Test Definitions" I could then export this to excel then give it to the testes to fill in and then I could import them into DOORS.

I get the export part right but can't get to import the results next to the correct entries in DOORS the system just imports them as new rows.

Can you help me out with some information on this or is it a no go.

Firstly, when you exported to a spreadsheet, did you include the UID column? If you didn't then importing will not be possible (well at least very very difficult).

If you did export the UID column, then when you're importing, have a close look at the Spreadsheet Import dialogue window, make sure that the "Update existing Objects" radio button is selected. DOORS will then try to match the UID in the spreadsheet with a UID in the DOORS module (This assumes that the "By Column Labels" radio button is also selected and that the first row of your spreadsheet contains the exact names of the matching attributes in DOORS). If a UID match is found, then the rest of the attribute data for that UID is imported and replaces what was there before. If it can't find a match, it will insert a new object immediatly after the last object it just modified.

Be careful here, you cannot import the DOORS Main Column as the importer cannot differentiate between a heading and text - these are two seperate attributes in DOORS. I would doubt that you wnat to re-import the Main Column anyway, so remove this column from the spreadsheet before doing the import.

Hope this helps.
