I am trying (unsuccessfully) to write a Layout DXL for DOORS 7.1 which will do the following: 1) Search through a spec/document for objects which are IsReq? = Yes *and* which have child objects which are bulleted (Paragraph Style = $ Bullet 1) and are IsReq? = No 2) Create a new column of Merged Text, in which the bulleted child object texts are merged with the parent object text, into one object/text space, in the new column As an example, the spec currently has the following Object Text configuration: Object Text Level IsReq? Paragraph Style "The system shall................." 2 Yes blah, blah, blah 3 No $ Bullet 1 blah, blah, blah 3 No $ Bullet 1 blah, blah, blah 3 No $ Bullet 1 I am trying to devise a script which will copy the above text into a new column and will consolodate the parent object text and child object texts into one object text space, like this: ___________________________________ |"The system shall................." | | blah, blah, blah | bullet] blah, blah, blah | | blah, blah, blah | |___________________________ ______| The code that I created is not working. What this is doing is creating the new column and simply copying the text(s) over into that new column. It is not merging the text(s) all into one text space. (It is attached) Any ideas? Thanx for any help you can offer.

You seem to have an extaneous space in the 3rd line, before "IsReq?"; perhaps that prevents isreq from being true. I see that same space before the two references to "Object Text". Just tested, I guess that doesn't matter. But its sloppy code, get rid of the spaces and its easier to read.

I tested and didn't realize you could set a bool variable directly to a boolean attribute reference. That seems to work.

You are saying that the 'solution' code executes, but you aren't getting any of the child text? Add a column to your display of "Object Level". If you requirement is level 4 then its child objects must be level 5 in order for the "for childObj in obj do" loop to work. Otherwise, they are not children but rather siblings (level 4). Lets go with that....

So you want this layout to find requrements and merge the text of all subsequent objects up until but not counting the next requirement or next heading or some higher level'd object. You'll need something like the attached, which I didn't try. Be advised that sorting and filtering will screw thus up pretty badly.

As for checking for bullet

The existing code retrieves only raw text from the objects. I think you intend Rich text, but no OLEs. If so, change obj."Object Text" to richTextNoOle(obj."Object Text"), and change "display" to "displayRich".
