Answer:
Peter,

You need to ensure that styles are used.

Section 3.2 should be "Heading 2" or similar and section 3.2.1 should be "Heading 3". Read about Styles in the Word help file if you don't know what I am talking about.

I'm guessing since this came from a PDF, that everything is just flat. So there is no formatting. So you need to apply styles in Word first. If I am wrong and someone did apply formatting, in the RTF import dialog you can map styles (H2="Heading 2", "IntroSection"="Heading 1", etc.)

If you are using DOORS 8.2, there is a button to swap Object Heading and Object Text. Use this button and then remove the 3.2, 3.2.1, etc. then promote and demote objects as necessary.

Finally, DOORS is an engineering tool. While Telelogic says it's easy to use, you can't expect to use it without training and not go crazy. I know you have a deadline and I know the real world doesn't always allow for time, but you really need to ensure your management gets you proper training otherwise the quality of your work, and the database, will both suffer. Not to mention your frustration level.

Good luck!

OK. I'm new to DOORS. I also don't have the luxury of training time as I need to use it NOW. I am trying to setup the modules and import requirements from a Word doc in rtf (the source was a pdf that was converted to rtf so it is a little messy). I am trying to maintian the Object numbering as it appears that the source document used a similiar numbering structure as the default DOORS. How can I bring these over into DOORS as it without having to massage each one.
In other words, I have a 3.2 Performance section with 3.2.1 Key Performance Parameters. The 3.2. is just the section title and the 3.2.1. has text for the description. I want them to import into DOORS exactly the same way.
When I try to do this with the export to DOORS in Word it comes over as individual lines and the section headers show up as text.
Help please!

Yes. Display the MS-Word 'document map'. Those word paragraphs that appear in that map are imported into Object Heading, those that do not appear import into Object Text. Thus, the Word Document Map accurately predicts how it will look in DOORS.

If you select a desired heading and changes its Style to perhaps 'Heading 2', you will see that line appear in the document map.
