We need to migrate a DOORs 6 Database into an existing doors 7.1 database.
Is this possible? or do we have to create another new empty DOORs 7 database. Migrate the version 6 data into this new database then Archive / restore to the existing Version. |

Yes you will have to migrate - the process is explained in the DOORS install documentation.
You can archive and restore. But there is another way. Stop your DOORS 6 and DOORS 7 services. Make a copy of your DOORS 7\data directory to a safe place. ( Archive any existing DOORS 7 projects) Delete the Doors7\Data directory. Copy your DOORS6\Data directory into \DOORS7 Restart you DOOR 7 service. Log into DOORS as the Administrator, and you should be presented with a dialogue box asking you if you wish to migrate. Select Confirm and it should do the job. Restore any existing DOORS 7 projects. Note: user groups, user names ans passwords and permissions will also be as for your DOORS 6 installation, as I recall. Hope this is useful Regards, Ewen Miller QinetiQ Ltd |

You cannot merge. The projects in either the v6 or the v7 database will need to be archived and restored in the other. That creates a bunch of user-access problems, however, since the user accesses in one database will NOT match the other. After restore you'll spend a lot of time massaging the attribute accesses.
