With the server admin tool (dbsadmin.exe), I put the location of my database into the "Database server" field and hit "Refresh List". In the report box I get that "User list operation succeeded." and "Locked file list operation succeeded." But nothing appears in the "Users and locked files" list.

Am I doing something wrong? I've tried it with and without having the Admin password in the password field. Neither way gives me anything. Does the tool have to be run on the server to work? I'm running it from my PC since I have a network drive mapped to the location of the DOORS server install.

For the "Database server" field, I'm putting the location of the server that is in the shortcut to my DOORS client (we have two different DOORS servers running and have a different shortcut for each).

David,

For the location of your database server, are you entering in 36677@servername ? (My guess is that you are)

Are you sure users are logged into this database server? Are you logged in to it and in a module in exclusive edit?

You should get something.

I get 'Server not found' errors when I mis-type the server (such as 381889@MyComputer) and I get the same 'Server not founbd' errors when I correctly type in the server that isn't started (such as 38188@MyComputer).

When I type in the correct server I get the two lists succeeded and also get a list of current logged in users and always get an extra line that represents this dbsamin query (tagged as [Administrator]). I get the same results for services running on my client as well as the production service behind the well-protected firewall. That means if the DOORS service is running, a well formed dbsadmin query will result in at least one result.

I have no idea why you would get 'succeeded' but get no results. My only guess is that the 'password' stuff isn't set right. I've not used it but understand that this dbsadmin 'password' is the password for the server ..err.. service to prevent unathorized folks from stopping it; it is not the same thing as the 'Administrator' doors password.

Search for 'dbadmin' in the DOORS help.
