As a side project, I've been working on setting up an indeterminate progress bar (barber pole, running status, etc) that can be used when the extent of a task is unknown. I'm posting it here because I can't resolve two sticking points, and it would be beneficial to the DOORS user community in general if these can be overcome.
My criteria are as follows: 1. It should look and act like the standard progress bar, using the same message placement, progress bar width, cancel button, and color scheme. 2. The DXL syntax and usage should be identical to the standard progress bar, omitting all references to a limit or position. The issues I can not resolve are: 1. A DXL script must be added to the startupItems folder. This limits the usefulness of the progress bar. 2. While the progress bar is displayed and a DXL script is running, the remainder of the DOORS interface is unresponsive. The cancel button can not be pushed and the window can not be moved. Attached to this post is a .zip file with the code and instructions. All of the built-in function calls used for the standard progress bar are duplicated for the running progress bar, except for progressRange. The functions have been renamed and include runningCancelled, runningMessage, runningStart, runningStep, and runningStop. Use these the same as you would a standard progress bar, except omit the limit or position variables from runningStart and runningStep. Hopefully someone in the DXL community will have new ideas on how to make this work. Thanks, Dennis

Dennis why not just use the built in progress bar? Just go from 0 to the limit and reset it once you get there for as long as your script runs. I have done this.

David, I've taken that approach as well, but it can also be misleading if the user actually expects the task to complete when the bar reaches the limit. Having a 'barber pole' type animation would just look better in this case.
