Is it possible to add a menu similar to the one found in Module windows on the main DOORS window that lets me run scripts in my /addins/user directory? I have several database wide scripts I'd like to be able to run from the main DOORS window without having to go to Tools -> Edit DXL -> Load.

Quick answer: Yes.

Longer answer: I've done it by having a file containing the following code in folder C:\Program Files\Telelogic\DOORS 7.1\lib\dxl\config\baseWindowMenuFiles. This creates a menu item in the main window, but the two entries are only active under specific circumstances. Read the manual chapter on DOORS window control (ch19 in V7.1) where the perms are described.

Please note the following "care point": DOORS parses all files in this (and the parallel) directories, regardless of extension. So if your editor creates .bak files when you save a file, you end up parsing the file twice, and DOORS objects to duplicate declarations.

Yes you can. It is a two step process.

1. Need to create the directory structure for the menu system. Please look at the attached powerpoint. I took some screen captures of my set up that you can duplicate soemthign similar.
2. The ability to see the menus is done in the target properties of the short cut. Also look at DOORS documentation on command switches. I gave an exaplme in hte attached powerpoint
3. If you are only trying to access a single menu system you can map the drive specifically in the target, otherwise you will need to map a drive tot he dxl directory. The clue is the -J command is at the database level, and -L is at the module level.
4. I also included some of the contact from a web page I have for internal users. If you need further help...let me know...This should get you moving in the right direction.

Yes I got it. I was just asking for future reference because in a few weeks, maybe a month, I might see about writing a menu so I can run some scripts from the main window. Thanks for the help. And I see you're in the Orlando/Merritt Island/Palm Bay/Melbourne area(from your phone number). I'm from there. Went to college at FIT in Melbourne.
