Its a reference manual. If you know what you are looking for you can find it. Its somewhat like a dictionary where if you know the word you care about you can find it but it really doesn't teach English.
I don't believe there is a good source for learning DXL. You gotta write a lot of dxl, then the manual will make much more sense. - louie |

I found an old DXL programmers guide from 1995 that actually explains DXL a little bit better than the latest version. I think most of the basics are the same, so newbies may get something out of it. See the attached PDF.

The beginners guide is excellent. I've just written my first short script from scratch! Thank you David.

Hi Louie,
well I disagree with you in parts. Regarding my example regarding the insert function on lists, you are right: if I now the word looking for i can find the explanation. But how can I learn something about it without knowing about the existence???? Answer: never, except I read the reference manual completely from the beginning to the end. So a really good and comprehensive reference manual should have hyperlink from the chapter explaining the DBE list to all relevant functions, e.g. to the particular type of insert function. ------------------------- Greetings,<BR>Oliver<BR><BR><BR>Oliver Roepke<BR>Axis Engineering AG, Munich |

David,
Just curious - are there more chapters to the guide? Here in this PDF file, there are only 7 chapters, and the text references at least 16... Thanks. |

Thanks for posting the DXL reference. However, it appears to only one of several files of the Programming Guide, as the Guide has references to chapters beyond 1-7. |

Well you have already found the best DXL guide, you posted on it. If I want to try something new, I just do a search on the forum. One of these guys has usually tried it, talked about it, and posted here. Thanks to all the posters that keep this forum alive.
And yeah, perhaps one day O'Rielly will write the DXL guide, hehe. ------------------------- Andrew Tagg Thales Air Systems, Melbourne Australia. andrew.tagg@thalesatm.com |

Hi All,
I just attended a two day course on DXL by Telelogic. The notes given at the course is organized better than the DXL Reference manual. Users of DXL will be benefited if they are supplied the same notes (in addition to the DXL Reference manual) along with DOORS installation. - Krishna |
