Does anyone know if DXL files from DOORS 5 are compatible with DOORS 7?
Are the commands changed? I am getting "syntax error", "incorrect arguments for" and "undeclared variable" errors from DXL files that worked fine in 5. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks, Ed |

Check your $home/lib/dxl/startup.dxl file. If it has "XFLAGS_ &=~AutoDeclare_" in it then all your DXL variables MUST be explicetly declared. Perhaps you have no such command in v5 but DO in v7. This may resolve your interpretation DXL errors. Suppressing AutoDeclare is a real good programming practice but many Telelogic DXL do NOT declare their variables; much to my CONSIDERABLE chagrin.
Haven't done much with v7 but the v6 DXL SEEMS to work in v7. Even if the DXL interprets, the RESULTS may not be the same. The biggest change from v5 to v6 is in dealing with OLEs. In v5 you could refer to "the" OLE in the object. v6 allows multiple OLEs in any Text attribute (and you cannot have an OLE just in the Object); so refering to "the" OLE no longer makes sense: the command "oleCut(obj)" no longer has any meaning even though its still "supported" and will "interpret". You need to rewrite all your OLE DXL; good luck. The "rt.newline" command no longer works correctly in v6. That's a bug. Had to rewrite that equivalent function using RichTextParagraphs. Otherwise I think its upward compatible. It is of course NOT backward compatible: don't write v6 "RichTextParagraph" or "oleCut(obj, col, index)" command and expect the v5 interpreter to understand them. - Louie |
