Is there a way to archive and import modules and maintain links?
Currently, the only way that I am aware of to preserve links is to do project archives since individual archives of modules and link modules do not maintain the links? This prohibits collaborative work on different modules in a project on different databases at different sites. |

Erik,
What you are wanting to do is a little tricky. If you have the kitchen files there is an example called "Pack links" and "Unpack Links". Basically, you store link information in an attribute. The attribute is populated by DXL that you run before you send the module to the other database. At the other database, someone imports the module archive and then runs a script to create links based on that attribute. Packing links is relatively simple. Unpacking links is a bit more complicated. You have to do checks like, does the target object exist? Does the target module exist? What link module do I use, etc. Good luck. ------------------------- Kevin Murphy http://www.baselinesinc.com |
