Does anyone know the process to transfer changes entered into a CPS to DOORS Change Integration.
We are evaluating buying the DOORS Change Integration to replace the CPS system and would like to know the problems associated with transfering existing CPS request to the DOORS Change Integration. Thanks for any input Edited: 16-Jun-2008 at 16:22 by ron lewis |

Hi Ron,
I evaluated the Change Integration about a year ago and was none to impressed - I wrote a report about it and sent it in to Telelogic - I think my name is still mud in some circles ;-) You should be able to find some related posts I was involved with in this forum There is no doubt that DOORS would benefit from a better change control system, but its not this. The major problems are as follows: - After initiating the Change Control System DOORS no longer holds all the data - project and module archives are therefore incomplete. A system where all the data is held within DOORS or at least the relevant DOORS projects helps confidence in the backup facilities and collaboration with suppliers and customers. The integration appears to be an all or nothing affair. It pretends to only apply itself to selected attributes, but in effect all changes following initialisation are stored in synergy and loaded in from Synergy Change on opening the module. The system seems to work on the history, meaning that changes to attributes not recording history are not recorded - which was weird. Company tooling often requires the user to create and modify module and object attributes, this is not compatible with the way the change control system works. I didn't really like Change and liked the interface and DOORS views of the proposed changes even less - consensus of opinion is that Change would eventually be sidelined and replaced by one of IBM's products. It took me an absolute age and no end of phone calls to the help line to install everything, the helpline however was excellent as was the dialogue with personnel working on the Change products. Needless to say we didn't go for this system, a simple system involving adding a few extra attributes, triggers and views to a module and a tool to wrap around the telelogic baseline tool satisfied most people and was far faster and far less intrusive and less unwieldy than the Change integration I will re-evaluate the integration when DOORS 9.0 becomes available - my comments relate to the DOOR 8.2, Change Integration 5.3 configuration. ------------------------- Regards, Richard Good |

Hi, I'm not sure why a "replacement by one of IBM's products" correlates to a superior alternative integration despite IBM & Telelogic now becoming one company. I'm currently working for a client that you would classify as a "Rational Shop" and I can assure you that the integrations offered by the Rational suite have just as many if not more issues, admin overheads and constraints as compared with the Telelogic integrations. When it comes to tool integrations in general, the severity and inflexibility of integrations seem to be exponentially proportional to the size and complexity of a projects engineering life-cycle. That is - they're OK for small simple projects but are not very scaleable when the projects get bigger and more complex. ------------------------- Paul Miller Specification Practices Specialist EuroCyber Melbourne, Australia Mobile: + 61 (0) 418 135 103 http://www.eurocyber.biz Edited: 25-Jun-2008 at 23:18 by Paul R Miller |
