I'm trying to figure out a maximum number of objects in a formal module.

Some folks want to put an entire contract for a project in DOORS. When imported into DOORS it would create 25,000 objects and have about 25 attributes.

Will this make DOORS run too slow?

Is there a white paper that addresses this issue?

I realize there are probably 'best practice' reasons for not importing such a large file since we'll be using subsets of the data in module with link modules etc, but I've been asked to find out the top limit.

Thanks,
Russ

Hi Russell,

My understanding is that it is only limited by the storage and amount of RAM present on the host (meaning the system that has the Database) system.

My understanding was derived from a similar question i posed to the pre sales team for DOORS v 8.2.

I haven't attempted this though.

With my limited (9 months) understanding of doors v. 8.2, i think it would be a good strategy to break down your contract into several modules. that way, each "chunk" would load quicker instead of one gargantuan attempt.

Hope that helps.

I guess others would have a clear idea on this.

Kaizer.

There is no fixed limit. I have experience with modules upto 30 000 objects, and they work OK, except for being slow to open and slow e.g. to see Object Properties.

Well, yes, a module with 25000 objects will be slow. If possible, split the data into sections of different modules.
