This is a good question. I have one module with almost 16,000 inlinks. When I attempt a print preview or even worse, attempt to print a current view, everything locks up hard as a rock. I've got tech support working this issue. Anyone have any experience/suggestions on this?

16,000 is a lot of links in one module, and a lot of work that your system will have to do to download the module from the server to your client, saves etc.
Why can't the data held in this module be copied and distributed into several modules within a common folder? Then your system will only have to process smaller chunks of data, and so you will have far less of a performance hit. Also user permissions are likely to be simpler, and you will have less of a need for setting-up shared edit, which can be a significant performance hit. - Ewen Miller, QinetiQ |

I'm guessing your view has traceability columns in it. When you are looking at the module window, DOORS only needs to calculate the traceability information for the objects you can see; when you want to print or print preview, it has to calculate it for everything. For 16,000 links, that's a lot of calculation.
If you don't want to split up the module, you could define filters (say, based on sections or subsections) and try printing it off in smaller chunks. Judith Underwood |
