Hi All,
We have a multi-valued enumerated attribute for the objects in our modules. They were given the related numbers e.g Apple = 3 Orange = 1 Banana =2 . When all three of them are selected, we get the attribute values listed as: Orange Banana Apple. I want to sort these values alphabetically without disturbing the sequence of the objects in the module i.e sort the attribute values within the object window. Apple Banana Orange. I sorted the attribute values in the Enumerated window of the Attribute Type by using the arrows, but that does not seem to change the order in which they appear in the module after selection. They follow the order of the related number. I tried to generate a script to convert the string value of this attribute to an array of strings and then sort the array. Is there any way this can be done without changing the related number ? |

Why do you care what the related number is?
Just change them. ------------------------- Tony Goodman http://www.smartdxl.com |

Is there any other purpose for the related number, except to display the selected values in that order? Can these related numbers be used in dxl code?

The sole purpose of the related number is for sorting.

You can also use them for filtering, making a query like "show me Fruits with value 2 or higher". A more realistic example would be attribute Severity with values Disaster(4), Terrible(3), Bad(2), Inconvenient (1), Inconsequencial (0), and then construct a query like "Show me all Severity of Bad ..err.. 2 or worse ..err.. higher".

Thank you all for the useful hints about the related numbers.
