Are there any standard Test Procedure templates for DOORS? Management wants to store test procedures in DOORS and capture test case/step, pass/fail, witness data, etc. and have traceability to requirements. The way our Test Procedures are currently set up do not lend to an easy integration into DOORS. Anybody have any clues on how to get the process started?

Thanks,
Corey

Usually the challenges are on a case-by-case basis.

You have your required attributes. So, do a test of using DOORS for tests. Create a sample module, import the word documents you have, and simulate.

Also, check out DOORS Test tracking capabilities.

Good luck.

I'm researching on the same topic for my team and as Kevin says, it seems like everyone comes to their own solution. A lot depends on whether tools currently used by your testers are entrenched or not. The DOORS test tracking capabilities are rudimentary -- not good enough to make my team want to switch over. But they're very enthusiastic about using DOORS's traceability features from requirements to test cases and even steps.

So we're looking at putting the test cases in DOORS, but then exporting them via Word for use in the test tool (which uses MHS files, I believe -- and this conversion is not totally simple). The problem is, they sometimes change the tests as they use them and discover defects. Regardless of whether this is a mature process or not, it goes on, and means that they'd have to either make the changes in both places, or reimport the test case after it's been used and revised. It's ugly no matter what.

I'm interested in any success stories and best practices too.

Mia
