Hi,
I'm looking for solutions to Exchange Data between a Customer and its suppliers under DOORS. The data will need to be exported/imported in the two database, and synchronisations will appear when the customer makes changes in his documents. Filtering will also need to be in place in order to prevent export of some critical data. Finally, we'll have links to exchange, as this is the main goal of DOORS ![]() For the moment, I've seen a few solutions : - DOORS Partition : Pro : Already implemented in DOORS. No TREK needed. Cons : Do not support differents versions of DOORS. No update of data is possible. - TREK Exchange : Pro : Support filtering & links. Can update data. Cons : Need Trek. - XML Exchange : Pro : Open format. No need of DOORS, can be used for everyone. Cons : Need to develop DXL... - Telelogic eXchange [EDIT : Added 04.29.08] Pro : Cons : This is an open post, i hope we can work all together, as this is a problem that many people have. There is also DataExchange, an DOORS addon provided by Telelogic Germany.

The product is called 'eXchange'. We use it with our customers to transfer modules between their database and ours, in both directions.
Drop me a line (email can be deduced from the signature below) and I'll send you the manuals. Paul. ------------------------- Paul dot Tiplady at TRW dot com TRW Automotive |

Hello,
we are exchanging formal modules with our customer via "Dataexchange". As far as I know this has been written by some Telelogic experts in 2005 and it is not identical with the eXchange product Telelogic sells separately. The first tests of importing/exporting modules ran fine, but now we are stuck with an DXL error message when importing files. Error message text as follows: -R-E- DXL: <addins/library/links/gc_Links.inc:78> Cannot create link: link mapping already satisfied Backtrace: <addins/library/links/gc_copyLinksFromMod.inc:132> <addins/library/module/gc_archiveWithLinks.inc:476> <addins/library/tools/dataexchange/gc_dataExchangeImport.inc:497> <addins/library/tools/dataexchange/gc_dataExchangeImport.inc:679> Anybody encountered this problem before? Any idea whom I can ask for help? Regards, Hiltrud |

"Cannot create link: link mapping already satisfied" error comes when you have a link module which has "one-to-many","many-to-one" or "one-to-one" mapping, i.e. there are objects which should have only one outgoing or incoming link. The error comes when you already has linked such an object and you try to create more links but these can be created due to this link mapping restriction.
The mapping of the link module can not be changed after it is created, so you should review this link relationship to see if those links should be moved to a many-to-many link module. ------------------------- Pekka.Makinen@softqa.fi SoftQA Oy -http://www.softqa.fi/ Edited: 30-Apr-2008 at 12:15 by Pekka Mäkinen |

One further possibility:
We use DOORS Archive/Restore to transfer a project from one database to another but which have the same versions of DOORS; and then use exported csv files (data to be exported is filtered according to modified date) from each module to keep the data between the databases concurrent. pros: simple to use and no additional software required cons: labour intensive; Need to have strict MASTER-SLAVE protocols in place; Link changes have to tracked using DXL attributes. only really works if the changes are limited to a few pre-identified modules. you loose user access rights (no big deal in reality) --- Does anyone know/can confirm if DOORS archive/restore will work between different DOORS versions ( ie from 8.1 to 7.1 or 7.1 to 8.1) . I suspect not. ------------- Gordon Woods BAe Systems, Warton, UK gordon.woods2@baesystems.com Edited: 1-May-2008 at 13:42 by Gordon Woods |

Also partitions have been known to cause problems - especially if data editing is required on the home partition. Has this been resolved/documented anywhere?

DOORS archives are not backward compatible, so a v8 archive will NOT restore in a v7 database. v7 archive, however, will restore in a v8 database.
