Answer:
I never found how to irradicate the non-existant links, but I did cheat the system.  I cut the objects and then saved the module, and it prompted to Delete or Restore the objects on the clipboard.  I chose delete and it got rid of them.  They are still visable when Show Deletions is on, so the history is still in place for each object!

I have some objects that need to be deleted, but DOORS will not let me delete them.  The following error is given:

cannot delete - object(s) have 4 incoming links (the first of which is via link module "/name and path of link module" to object 1928 from "/name and path of formal module":48)

When I go to the formal module, I show no outlinks to the objects needing to be delete.  The linkset also shows no links.  I deleted one of the linksets and it still gives an error.  When I try to delete the links, it says there are no links to delete.  I have seen this before, but I was able to find links to delete.  Help, please!!

Corey

The source objects may have been deleted.
Open the source module and make sure that Deleted Objects are shown.
Select View > Show > Deletions.
Then look again for the links.

I looked for deleted object with links earlier and came up with nothing.  I think the number at the end of the message (i.e., 48) is the absolute number of the object that the link was created from.  The funny thing is that most of the source modules have no links at all in them.

Is is possible that you purged the source objects that had the outgoing links? If so you may be able to copy the module with the target links. Delete, then purge the original module with incoming links. Rename the copy of the original module back to the original name. That will probably get rid of those "dangling" links.

I tried copying the module, and it worked.  However, I lost all my baseline history.  Is there a way to copy the module including all the baseline history?  I am going to archive and restore and see how that works out.

Corey,
I know of no way to copy the baseline either. It would be a useful thing if anyone has the answer to this.

When you delete an object you also delete all its descendants. None of them may have incoming links.

Its unlikely, but perhaps this was the old invisible in-links problem from v5.2 days. The target object did not show the links. Don't recall what triggered it. But it was resolved by going to the source module and accessing all the links, which somehow made them re-appear in the target module, as attached.

For your baseline copy problem--try archiving the module with baselines...then restoring the archive into a new directory.

That should allow you to keep baselines and start over with this link stuff.

This is all theoretical, so test it and let me know how it goes!
