One of our project managers has asked whether DOORS can be used instead of, for example, MS Project for project planning, i.e. estimating hours needed for a tasks and then measuring hours actually taken and so on.

Does anyone do this already and able to offer any pointers on how to?

Many thanks,

I forget the name of it, but Telelogic has a tool that integrates DOORS with Project. That tool allowed things such as change management to occur in DOORS yet let the Project take care of that clever project stuff.

I doubt you want to invest a BUNCH of $$ writing Project in DXL for DOORS.

That is a certain!

I vaguely remember hearing of people who have used DOORS for costings and all sorts keeping everything to do with a project within DOORS, but I think we are a few years away from having the knowledge to be able to acheive this yet.  We are still all new to DOORS and dxl so will play it safe for a little while longer I think!

Ta,

Laura

Since you seem to be starting from scratch for Project Management with DOORS, check out a demo of Focal Point. With the release of DOORS 8.2 in a couple of weeks, they have built an integration with DOORS that 'appears' extremely useful. I saw this demo a couple of weeks ago. Ask your rep for a demo of FP with DOORS 8.2, and tell them what you specifically want.

Section 7 and 8 of the demo listed below show cost-benefit analysis, and 11 and 12, show how to relate your requirements to a release schedule. Very clever tool, and the integration looks great. You can update headcount hours or cost in DOORS, and they will be updated in Focal Point. And schedule can be updated in FP, and pushed back to DOORS. Much better than keeping MS Project synched with DOORS.

We've got the DOORS Integration with MS Project - not used it much yet; but seems quitegood so far.

But a bit expensive.
