I am new to DOORS and I am just setting up our Change Proposal System. I noticed that when I submit a new Change Proposal for an object, it doesn't send an e-mail to any of the reviewers or CP Managers. If I modify the Status of the CP it sends out an e-mail. This seems worthless. If no one knows that there is a CP to be reviewed then they won't know to review and change the status. Am I missing something in my setup.

Shawn,

I can't tell you if this is normal or not, because I don't use DOORS' CP system. What I can tell you is that if it is normal, the behavior makes sense.

CPs should be reviewed in Change Control Board meetings, external to DOORS. Once you have the meeting and the CPs are approved/rejected/what have you, then the parties are notified that there is a status change.

I could see how it would be beneficial to know about a CP when it gets created, however, the email setting for a user does say "Emailupdates to change proposals"..the keyword there is "update".

So the CCB reviews new and outstanding proposals, and once they act, people are notified. It makes sense, even if it's not the desired behavior you are looking for.

Kevin, I agree there should be a review board, but we are a small company and don't have the staff. Our managers are too busy to check DOORS everyday for new Changes. Our main problem is that we have a customer who can enter a Change Proposal without us knowing it and he's been known not to tell us until big review meetings. I agree the documentation says that it only e-mails notifications upon a change. This was not explained to our company before we purchased DOORS.

Shawn

I added a dxl in the dxl forum that may solve your problem if you can modify your process to take advantage of the dxl script. The subject in the dxl forum is titled: New CPs

Jon, The subject script in the dxl forum titled: ''New CPs'' address the issue Shawn had. Shawn issues is that DOORS does not send notification by email when a new Change Proposal (CP) is submitted.

The theory behind the script is that the script can be ran periodically to summarise any CPs that have status equal to new.

Based on user permissions -- the script will go thru all CP modules that the current user can read and generates a summary report compatible with excel. The excel report can be analyzed or emailed as deemed appropriate by the user --- Thus keeping users from culling thru multiple modules looking for new CPs and avoiding surprises at a ''review board''.

If you have more questions leave your email address for offline response.
