IBM has offered to buy Telelogic, a Swedish developer of software development tools, in a cash deal valued at 5.2 billion Swedish krona, or about $745 million, the companies announced Monday.
-------------------------- Hummmmm...... Req Pro or DOORs for the future? has to be DOORs.... Requirements Management and Traceing is Rational's weakest link. Maybe, finally, a real integration between ClearQuest and DOORs... |

From my reading, it's a 21% stake that IBM is after but that would certainly amount to having some significant influence on the future directions of Telelogic and provides a platform for a future buy out. I Don't like it one little bit!

Hi Paul,
where did you read something about 21% stake? In german press and on Telelogic homepage, they are writing about 21 swedish krona per share which is about 2 Euro. But of course you are right. IBM has many products which are direct competitors to Telelogic products. <optipistic> So they will hopefully not do a feature buy out </optimistic> Greetings Reik ------------------------- Evosoft GmbH for Siemens Industry Sector Berlin, Germany |

Hi Reik,
Your correct - it's 21 SEK per share, I misread the announcement. This is worse than I thought - can you imagine the competing product confusion this will create for IBM and Telelogic customers - which products will have a future and which ones will just wallow around or are end lifed? ------------------------- Paul Miller Specification Practices Specialist, EuroCyber, Melbourne, Australia. Honestly I was worried as well by this announcement. Hopefully DOORS will continue on.

Well considering the installed user base, I can't see DOORS being dumped. Worst case scenario I can see is that DOORS development ends at 8.x. Best case is that IBM invest in DOORS, finally give us a good database back end server.

DOORS will be safe, it's Telelogics flagship product and has an enormous user base, so IBM are probably buying Telelogic so they can get there hands on DOORS.
I can't see them being anywhere near as interested in the other tools. ------------------------- Tony Goodman http://www.smartdxl.com |

I agree w/ Tony. DOORs is nearly required for large projects. ReqPro is a very weak product for large (even mid-sized) projects. But Synergy is another Story.
Synergy and ClearQuest are both fairly well established, capable and have solid (read entrenched) user bases. Finally, ClearCase is the defacto standard for the majority of companies and is reputed to be much superior to SynergyChange So... Here's my bets... (like my opinion counts ;-) ) DOORs - for Req Management Synergy -OR- ClearQuest ???? - for Defect / Issue tracking (I'll bet on ClearQuest) ClearCase - for doc repository SO, Will I be seeing all you good folks at the Telelogic conference this year AND at the Rational Conference next year???? |

I'll be at the Telelogic conference in November for the first time. I look forward to it and hope to meet some of the people here.
