We have installed DOORSnet on an HP UX server. When starting the DOORSnet daemon, it requires the x-display meaning as soon as I log off the server the daemon dies. We had to directly login to the server and start the daemon and then lock the screen to keep the daemon running. We wish to do the same as we do for DOORS start or shutdown the daemon remotely. One thing we did try is installing a freeware x-display emulator but without any success. Are any of you using DOORSnet on a Unix server? What is your workaround? Is DOORSnet 7.1 better than 7.0 SP1? Thank you for your inputs in advance.

I've noticed the same thing running doorsnet on Solaris, going back to v5.2 and continuing trough 7.1.

Lillian,

I had the same experience with an HP-UX Unix installation of DOORSnet. The solution was to install a "Virtual Framebuffer X server". HP support can give you the details. When I dealt with this situation a few years ago, their document ID for this information was XWINKBRC00004791.

I don't know if this solution applies to Sun OS or Solaris.

Did anyone find a solution for this issue on Solaris?

this is a problem with the MainWin v4 windows libraries which have been used by DOORS since DOORS 5.

this will be fixed by moving to MainWin v5 - which is meant to happen in the next major release of DOORS.

There is a virtual frame buffer also for Solaris, namely /usr/openwin/bin/Xvfb
see http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/co...d/virtual_buffer.html

regards,
Dietmar
