We made a bunch of FUBAR changes to a module, including radical Object Text, object purges, and attribute purges. Can you revert to an old baseline?

Louie,

From what I understand Baselines are just a way to take a snapshot of the current state. One would assume you should be able to "revert" back to a previous baseline. I would think that you should be doing archives instead of Baselines if you want the ability to "revert" back to a workable previous version of a Project (as opposed to a module).

Granted that an Archive is Project based and a baseline is module based. But, due to the fact that links are maintained at the source module, reverting back to a previous baseline would have to take into consideration the in-links from other modules....So it's just a big rat's nest.

You can use the copy baseline facility to turn a baseline into a new working module, but you get new ob ids all the way through and no links. May be of use to you though.

This issue appears to be old (Jan/Feb 2004), but I wondered if after 3 years someone has a solution? I just thought I'd try resurrecting it in the hopes...(?)

I am actually in the same question. I do not think there is a way. I am having to build scripts that will do several function.

1. Record ALL of the in and outlink information into attributes before baselining.
Then if a baseline needs to be resurrected as the current version I will need to
1. Build a script that will map all of the old object absolutes to the new as these are all different.
2. Create a script to recreat all of the links and issue an error file on objects that have be deleted and links could not be made.
3. Delete the old Module.
4. Write a script to clean up all of the dead links in all of the docuemtns linked to.

I have found no easier way. The problem is that is does not help anything in the past, but create a safe point from this point forward.

Sorry I could not be of further help, but that are many people out there with the same issue.
