Some of the products we make have multiple, similar variants (models). Therefore, 95% of the requirements will be the same, and only 5% differ from model to model. Is there a good way to manage the requirements for these models so that we don't have to repeat the same requirements over and over? -Thanks!

I was tasked to produce 18 documents which were 80% the same in two weeks. This is my solution.
I imported the master into DOORS. This created the proper hierarchy and paragraph style. I then converted the formal module into all Object Text, retaining the paragraph numbers in Object text (all Object Heading blank). This retains the hierarchy but does not enforce logical paragraph numbering e.g., the same paragraph number can be used multiple times or skipped. Replace Paragraph style 'Object Heading:Heading n' with 'Object Text:Heading n'. I created an attribute to define to which document each object was applicable. Filter on this attribute then export each document. Minor nuance: Paragraph headings were not bold in the DOORS display as the normally are. Through dxl, I bolded the OT which contained para headings. However, when exported to Word they were not bold. Word does a double negative similarity where bold character formatting in a bold style causes non bold. Quick fix is to modify Heading 1 through Heading n to not be bold. They then come out bold. The conversion is a quick export to spreadsheet of then an import with column titles modified. Note this is an ASCII import so if there are special characters in Object Heading they will be lost. |

Hi,
There is a product out there called BigLever Gears that was designed to handle this very situation. |
