Hi Karen.
If you just start linking objects, DOORS will create DOORS Link(s) modules and you'll end up with a cat's cradle of links: you won't see the wood for the trees and your link tools, such as suspect links won't work very well. What I suggest, is that you think what types of link relationships you need - categorise the reasons for linking - e.g. UR 1 is satisfied by SD(1 to n) which is satisified by DD(1 to n) etc, all through the life cycle. Suggest such links are Satisfies type of links. You'll maybe have statements which justify design decisions and tests. Suggest these are Justifies type of links. You might have evidence or tests etc, which verify or validate requirements or tests undertaken - Verifies and/or Validates type of links. So you can categorise your links depending on what relationship they're intending to show. Therefore create a Satisfies; Justifies; Verifies and Validates link modules, and other link modules if you have more reasons for linking objects. Then set-up link rules in the source formal modules, so only allowing appropriate types of links to be created from each source module to each target module. Think of each type of link as being a river, which must flow in the same direction through your project. If you don't, you 'll not get the best use out of some of the link analysis tools. It also helps to have conventions - e.g. if satisfy links are from UR to SD to DD direction in life cyle use satisfied by - same for other links, justified by, verified by, compliance by etc. If in the other direction: satisifes, justifies, verifies, complies with etc. Hope this helps - will make more sense if you read Managing DOORS.
