I guess I'll have to do this myself. Just back from a DXL course, so maybe it won't be so hard. Have any of you (we're in 8.1) used a DXL routine to make up your own 'contains' for doing a gross filter on strings?

From the filtering pop-up you select 'Any string or text attribute' from the Attribute drop-down and then the Condition automatically puts in a 'contains' as part of the search criteria. You then just add the word or prase you are looking for in teh Value box and press Apply.

I am using 8.3 but am sure it was the same on 8.1

Example contains dxl:

Module m = current
Filter f = contains(attribute "Object Text", "shall", false)
set f
filtering on

But you seems to be more interested in contents commans such as:

Filter contents(string text [,bool caseSensitive])

Sorry: I didn't make myself clear. I was doing some date arithmetic on changes that were made SINCE a certain date.
That set of choices ...on dates....doesn't give a 'contains' choice. So it really depends on what kind of filter you're trying to set up.
Mine was on the attributes 'Created on' and 'Modified on'.

Thanks, anyhow.

Just one more clarification. That date arithmetic was a bug in 8.1 and fixed in 8.3.
You have to enter mm/dd/year and then DOORS converts it. But because it involves numbers, and calculations, the 'contains' probably isn't applicable.
So my problem really wasn't about 'contains' after all.

We're converting to 9.0 and I can't wait..

IHMO, the fastest way to use a "contains" filter on an attribute that does not support it, consists in:
    1. Displaying the attribute into a new attribute column
    2. Creating your filter from the "column" tab

I do it at least once a month for applying regular expression to "Object Number".

I can't remember which version of DOORS added column in the advanced filter but as Eric stated I use it all the time especially for layout dxl columns.
