Hi,

The Attribute DXL example impact.dxl includes the commands:

setCacheState_ on
for l in obj->"*" do count++ // count outgoing links
setCacheState_ off

I can find no reference to setCacheState_ in the DXL help (8.1). What does it do? What is the purpose in this example?

TIA

Jim

When Cache is set to ON, DOORS is supposed to repond better over a Wide Area Network. I have tried this by enabling cache using a command line switch, but I cant say I noticed any amazing difference.

So what's the point of turning on cacheState when dealing with links? When on, DOORS retrieves the other modules over the network faster? If so, what would be the point of turning Cache off?

Lou,

It's not about retrieving modules, but rather reloading information.

My guess here is that setting the cache state to on for the attribute may cause better performance when dealing with already loaded modules from links.

This would be similar to but completely different than that cache option to start DOORS with. I think DOORS always has an active connection to its host database, but with caching, the data that is seen is loaded from a temp file. I will admit I am merely speculating, but what else could it mean? Caching won't magically make a connection faster--like viewing a cached offline webpage is going to be faster than doing a complete reload of the same page.
