Has anyone implemented\tested the ClearQuest or ClearCase integration that are supported by Telelogic. If so, what are your thoughts (PROs\CONs)? Were you able to modify the integrations?

Or

Has anyone developed their own integration between ClearCase\ClearQuest? If so, can you share any lessons learned?

I would like to try Synergy but that's not one of my options. Any feedback on the above would be appreciated!

Thanks

Adam

Replying to my own post here since nobody seems to have any feedback. I'm doing an evaluation of the integration Telelogic provides and I will post my results here. Should have them posted before June 01, 2005.

I'm preparing to do the same integration of ClearQuest with DOORS. I'd be very interested in learning what problems/issues you ran into with this process. Looking forward to your report.

I purchased the CQ integration package quite a while back and finally go around to trying it out. It was sold as a 'replacement' to the DOORs Change Proposal System. (The DOORs CPS has a rather nasty reputation)
The CQ integration is clearly not a 'replacement'! There may be some customization possible that I am unaware of but it appears to simply link DOORs objects to an individual ClearQuest ID. It's still up to you to manage the activities. It does nothing to manage or protect the DOORs database from changes.
Change 'proposals' must be made directly in ClearQuest. I don't see any way to 'propose' a change in DOORs (without making the change).
We had asked for a Change Proposal System that was secure and worked. We were sold the CQ integration package. I think I bought a 'pig in a poke'. When I finally got around to trying it, it wasn't as advertised at all. (Unless I seriously missed something)

Dan, maybe your sales person did not understand the difference between ChangeSynergy and ClearQuest. The integration to Telelogic ChangeSynergy is a real enchancement to the out-of-the-box DOORS Change Proposal System, where ChangeSynergy will be used to make change proposals and track the status of these proposals in DOORS. The ClearQuest integration does not do anything like this (according to the documentation, I do not have practical experience with it).

Yes, I have successfully transferred CQ records into DOORS 6.1, manually. Basically, I took an output file from CQ, renamed some of the attribute headings that conflicts with DOORS attribute names (i.e. ID). I then renamed the CQ file to .csv and then imported the data into DOORS. I plan to test the DOORS_CQ interface in the next month or so.

Adam,
I met with Cory from Embedded Plus a while ago but have not had time to actually run their app on a test server yet. How is you integration going. I'd like to compare notes when we get the interface up and running. Are you using the Doorkeeper integration as a traditional CPS?

We are very happy with the integration. We have been running it in production for almost a year now.

We are using it as a traditional CPS. We have asked EmbeddedPlus for more functionality in regards to Change Management and they are currently in process of gathering and going over the requirements that are coming in from multiple customers.

We are also using it for mapping problem reports to requirements. So, from DOORS we can see the CQ state field (or any other CQ field) of the ClearQuest record. Our software folks also enjoy having the requirement text available in ClearQuest.

On behalf of Telelogic I would rather use ChangeSynergy. However, the company is heavily invested in ClearQuest so it would not be cost effective at all to make the switch.

The ClearQuest Integration tool that we purchases was a waist on money.  It turned out to be a one way communication from ClearQuest to a surrogate module which I was able to duplicate by exporting a specific query in ClearQuest to a text file then importing it into the surrogate module.  The ClearQuest integration also caused licensing issues to where the more ClearQuest records I linked the longer it took to open modules.  When it got up to 45 minutes to open one of our modules and two hours on the phone with support we gave up.  So our process now is:
1. Run RM Query (The query uses the record ID not object number)
2. Export to grid.
3. Open text file and remove heading then save.
4. Import the text file using a pre-specified ATR file.
5. Import using the record ID number as unique.

Take about 5 minutes, zero cost, and doesn't effect performance.  Boss is happy.

I have evaluated the Telelogic DOORS/ClearQuest interface package. It performed as advertised. Basically, CQ/DOORS I/F supports LIMITED transfers; supports Bi-directional updates; supports all relationships (one-to-one. one-to-many, many-to-many, etc.)
You can improve the transfer process by developing a DXL script to parse out CQ Link Attribute data into separate attributes.

I have transferred data from ClearQuest to DOORS; but it is very limited.  Only those fields that are defined in the CQ "View Field Form" can be transferred to DOORS. Not all field types can be transferred. Only DBID, INT, ID, STATE, SHORT_STRING, DATE_TIME, and Reference_List CQ Record types can be transfered. This data is transfered into 1 DOORS Attribute cell separated by "|" called "CQ Link".

Multi_string, Reference, Journal, and Attachment CAN NOT be transfered. The reason explained by Telelogic is that these fields are TOO LARGE to fit in 1 attribute cell.  However, you can "Copy and Paste" the CQ data into the DOORS Attributes, or write a DXL script that parses out the CQ Link attribure data into separate DOORS attributes.

Can it work - yes, but with limitations. Installation is easy and fast.

Another software package that I find better is RING_ZERO's new release of their "ClearTrace for DOORS" integration. It can do everything that you want it to do. The process is menu driven. It can transfer all record types from CQ/CC to DOORS. Bi-directional linkages, etc. If you want, they can demonstrate the product via webinar.  Installation is more complicated being it needs to be installed on the Servers, and CQ and DOORS Client components. Hopefully, in the next month or so, I will be evaluating this integration product.
