Just curious, we're in the process of upgrading from DOORS 8.1 to 8.3. Currently most of our users connect to DOORS using a DOORS client installed on their local computer. We've been throwing around the idea of removing the client from all the computers and setting everyone up so that they can connect to DOORS via one of three methods:

1. Citrix
2. Citrix Network Neighborhood
3. Terminal Server

This would allow us the "freedom" to only have to update three clients, rather than 300, every time we need to make an update. From testing it also offers a performance increase to those that are not local to the server (we have offices in several states and countries). We've been using Citrix and the Terminal Server approach with DOORS 8.1 and I've tested the Citrix Network Neighboorhood on 8.1 and everything seems to work fine (seamless window doesn't work, but oh well).

I'm just curious if anyone else has taken this approach with DOORS 8.3, because the evaluation license will only allow me to use it on my local client. My IT guy is working on the other three methods....

Any issues y'all can come up with? The three servers will be on seperate hardware as well as the actual DOORS server, and all users will have access to all three connection methods, in the event one of the servers goes belly up, so we have some redundancy.

Hey Scott

We recently had some issues with a customer upgrading from 8.1 to 8.3 on Citrix. Had some funky errors which we were unable to rectify. Spoke to Telelogic support who advised that 8.3 is not supported on Citrix.

You may want to do some further digging on this with support before spending too much tech time on the migration.

Haven't tried on T/S tho.

Good luck
Cam

Could you tell more in what way DOORS 8.3 is not supported on Citrix? At least the readme says

"To run the DOORS 8.3 Client you need one of the following operating systems installed on your computer:

* Windows XP Professional SP2
* Windows Terminal Server on Windows 2003 Server (Standard or Enterprise Edition)
* Windows Vista (Business or Enterprise Edition)
* Citrix Presentation Server V4.0 "

What are the exact issues are people currently having?

Here DOORS 7.1 and DOORS 8.3 is being run fine via CITRIX (ICA protocol) and through a Remote Desktop Conneciton (RDP protocol).

What CITRIX MetaFrame XP Server is being used?

It is quite possible we have been getting mixed messages from support.

I haven't had time to investigate further - client o/s pre XP also preventing upgrade to 8.3. Awaiting server o/s uprade to W2k3.

C

Rereading support response - issue with O/S = not Citrix.

One thing to watch out for if you use Windows Remote Desktop Connection (doubt if this applies for Citrix, but anyhows..) when using the Windows RDC, for example to access the DOORS client on a remote server over a LAN or WAN, the clipboard that is used is the clipboard of the local PC, not the clipboard of the remote server. Now this shouldn't cause much problem unless you need to perform a large export, to Word for example. In this case, it means that all the data is dragged over the WAN to your local machine, then sent back over the WAN again to the Word application :-(. Always something to catch us out isn't there!

Thanks Andrew....Hadn't thought of that, but I don't think it should provide too much of a problem for us....now.

A lot of us all ready use the terminal server approach with 8.1 and haven't had any issues with documentation creation, though we're not creating huge Word exports either.
