Our IM section have  now installed the 8.2 version on a separate server and copied all the data from the 7.1 database. We would like to test the data copied on the 8.2 before we disable the 7.1 and assign all the users to the 8.2. After all the necessary checks are done, we would like to make the final changeover during a weekend. Until then, we will be using 7.1.
What are the checks involved before we disable the 7.1 database? Is there any checklist or writeup available for reference?
I have the 7.1 users list with the email addresses and I created a contacts group in the Outlook. How can I transfer the whole group from 7.1 to 8.2?
I would appreciate any suggestions from the experts who have already handled these version changes.
Thanks in advance.

- Krishna

Here's some random thoughts:

So as of right now your v8.2 database is for testing only; production continues in the v7.1 database. On the big week-end you'll copy the v7.1 database over the v8.2 location again.

When you copy the database file system like that, the new database gets everything from the old including all the user's and their passwords. That specifically includes the Administrator password which becomes whatever it was in the v7.1 database.

You should rename your v8.2 database to something like "DOORS v8.2 TEST". Consider inserting some sort of pre-module-save trigger reminding folks that they are changing a TEST database and that production work should continue in the v7.1 database.

You can start installing v8.2 on all the clients.

After the big week-end you can lock down or remind folks not to change the v7.1 database. A while after that you can remove v7.1 from the clients and the server.

I don't see where your Outlook list would change one iota.

As for testing ... check out all the DXL and make sure simple tasks work as well as complicated things like CPS.

Thanks for the tips. We  made the checks on the test copy of the database in DOORS 8.2 first and tested all the dxl scripts. Last week we changed over to the 8.2 version which is now operational. We removed the accessibility to the 7.1 version for all users.
