How can I know if use has been idle and how long?
How can I kick off automaticaly users that have being idle for 30 minutes at least?

Don't see anyway using DOORS, but perhaps there is some flexlm query, but I don't know anything about that.

Also, since DOORS provides a mechanism for forcing relog-in for idle users, there must be some way to do it.

Here is a link to a version of the flexLM manual.   Chapter 7 has the commands to discover interesting info about users and licenses.    Probably have to write a shell script or Perl to do the determination of the elapsed time a user holds a license.  I suppose the script would run at some interval (chron job maybe) writing current metrics to a file and then at the later interval comparing the times from a recent run to an earlier run.

I am working towards something similar, unfortunately the sys admins here have locked down the box where the flexLM server is running.  I have to fight some battles to obtain access before I can do real work to get mine to function and be able to help you much more than pointing you to the link.

A follow on to my previous post.    Using the methods described in the link in my earlier post, I am able to release a license using flaxLM commands, HOWEVER the release of that license only "sticks" for a few minutes.    What happens is that since DOORS is more than likely still active on the user's machine, it will re-acquire the license after a short period of time.

Disappointing, though my plan is to find a way to permanently release the license.

DOORS provides a mechanism for forcing users to log in again after being idle for some set time? I've never experienced this or seen this option in any version of DOORS. Our users can stay logged in overnight or for days on end....can you provide more information on this feature?

Thanks,
;.)

That feature is like a screen saver lock: after idle for so-long the user must reconfirm user name and password before the rest of the DOORS interface is activated. Thus, the user stays logged in.

FlexLM provides an option to remove licenses from idle users. The length of time before removing the license is user definable. However, the feature only works if the vendor application supports it. DOORS currently does not support that FlexLM feature. We have been trying to get Telelogic to implement it for at least 3 years to no avail. If more customers expressed a desire for this feature to be enabled, maybe they will add it in a future release.

This function must be implemented in DOORS!
We really need it ... some users are connected during more than 300 hours!
Indeed due to our Group strategy we are using common licenses in all our european sites.
So we are using Doors via a "Remote Desktop" session.
But if users are killing their RD session without exiting Doors before, then the license is still used ... which is absolutely not normal.
That's why we need this functionnality ... where should I sign? ;-)

The FlexLM feature to remove idle users would be nice. I implemented a perl script that parses the flexlm command: lmutil.exe lmstat -f DOORS -c doors.dat It runs via scheduled task at 10 pm M-F and sends email if the logged on time exceeds a limit. Doesn't log them off.
