Hi,
Iam trying to import a simple Word RTF file (11page) into doors using 'Import RTF File'. The document contains table. The document initially had Track Changes turned on, but later all changes were accepted and track changes tuned off. The client machine has 256MB RAM. But the system shows up various errors like 'Doors out of memory', 'Doors exhausted'. And finally shows the following: R-E- DXL: <Line:274> An unexpected error has occurred: Unspecified Failure -R-F- DXL: <Line:274> internal error, please submit a bug report When I monitor the memory usage the free memory reduces from 190+MB to less than 1 MB. After failure, when I close the Doors Client, the free memory comes back to 190+MB. Even if I remove the table from the doument the same error comes up. Has anyone faced a similar problem. What could be the solution/work-around. (I have imported bigger RTF files before without any problems, but none had track changes turned on at any time) Thanks in advance, Dave ![]() ![]() Edited: 11-Aug-2003 at 15:24 by David Hepwood |

Let me take a guess: you have a normal MS-Word file that you are attempting to import as an "RTF" file. If so, DOORS is getting lost reading all those non-RTF stuff in MS-Word.
No. If you have an MS-Word file you need to push it from MS-Word to DOORS. You should see a "export to DOORS" icon at the bottom of your MS-Word Tools menu (put there when you installed DOORS). Open DOORS, go to the folder you want to put the new module, open the MS-Word file and export it to DOORS. If you really want RTF, then "Save-As" the MS-Word file in RTF format. Then import that *.rtf file into DOORS. This, IMnsHO, is superior to an MS-Word push since its MUCH faster and strips the stuff you don't care about. - Louie |

The file we were trying to import in DOORS was an *.rtf file . The export from Word to DOORS was not used because we lost some of the formatting information like bulleted lists and embedded numbered lists etc
Thanks Dave |

Given the dates on these comments, I hope it's not too late to chime in, because we've experienced a similar situation. We are using DOORS v. 6.0 SR1 and recently had a user encounter the same error message as Dave described. In this particular user's case, the .rtf file is 43mb (it contains a lot of large OLEs). We found that doing the "Import->Rich Text File" from within a DOORS module can often require less system resources than by pushing it from the "Export to DOORS" in Word.
Telelogic indicated that it may be an issue of the client machine (which in our case is Win 98) running out of memory resources. Have other users been in this same boat? Did adding more RAM help? I have three documents that I have the exact same problem with. I use Doors 7.0.
I was advised to save the document as an RTF file. I did an import from Doors but it wasn't pretty. I would rather export from Word into Doors. The imported RTF file is difficult to read and the tables got stripped out really making things difficult. At this point my client hasn't seen the RTF mess otherwise I would have a lot of explaining to do. I agree with Dave's emotions. ![]() |

I managed to create similar problems for myself while writing an RTF exporter, by not managing the DXL properly. I created a lot of string variables within my DXL, which meant task manager at one stage was showing well in excess of 1Gb of virtual memory in use on a 256Mb WIN2k PC. I got some very similar error messages to those reported here. I've now rewritten my DXL using buffers instead of strings, and un-nested some stuff, and my export works very well.
My point is, maybe this is an 'undocumented feature' ![]() ------------------------- Paul dot Tiplady at TRW dot com TRW Automotive |
