Is this product already released? I heard it was coming out in June. What are the new features, if you know?

Telelogic normally sends out an announcement concerning new releases and patches via their "DOORSNews" email subscription service, I didn't get one this time. It's certainly in the Telelogic support area ready for download so I guess it's an official release.

One issue that I have found is that DOORS 8.2 needs a new license - so have not yet installed it...

One thing I'm curious about: The notes mention "Native support for more graphical formats"---does anybody know any specifics? We had asked a while back about using PNGs, and I was curious to see if that's what they added. (We were also looking at using .ico files, which do work, but that's another story...) Chris |

we have been running 8.2 for about 2 weeks & things that have turned up:
1) Needed new licence BUT the 8.2 one will also support 7.1 2) Be careful with regular expressions as 8.2 has fixed bugs with Regexps which would have previously run - e.g. WEXP 11.4 doesn't run due to a regexp problem ( see my post in the DXL forum ( .https://support.telelogic.com/...did=4818&enterthread=y ) 3) You can't install Analyst 3.1 for BOTH 7.1 and 8.2 and infact any version of Analyst will only be able to be installed for a particular version. Because of the way Projects have to interface with Customers and Suppliers, we are unable to migrate everyone to 8.2 as a big bang. Good news is that 7.1 and 8.2 run perfectly alongside each other. See also the faults fixed and faults outstanding for 8.2 So far we are giving 8.2 the thumbs up and will be migrating as many Projects as possible in the coming months. ------------------------- Dave +44 (0)23 9270 5711 david.robbins@astrium.eads.net ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ EADS Astrium, Anchorage Road Portsmouth. quote: Hi Dave, When you say that you will be "migrating" projects to 8.2, is this simply migrating an entire 7.1 DB to 8.2 or using Archive & Restore to move projects from an existing 7.1 DB to an existing 8.2 DB, or is there some other magical way of doing it? The reason I ask is that the Archive & Restore approach has some ramifications w.r.t. any projects using the CPS or any DXL scripts that use Item UID pointers to refer to specific modules (The Analysis Wizard does this when configured to analyse links to\from a specific module) ------------------------- Paul Miller Specification Practices Specialist, EuroCyber, Melbourne, Australia. In addition, it seems to me that an Archive and Restore always fixes your data as well.

Slightly off the topic, but has anyone upgraded from 5.2 (i know, i know) to 8.2? I am about to finally update to the modern era, wondering if there are any pitfalls I need to know about? I know I will have to update my dxl, but otherwise any issues?

I am in the same boat as Andrew, ( i know, i know), and are in progress in getting to the modern era as well. Therefore also very interested in any known issues, pitfalls etc.

Hi Andrew,
Have brought many DB's up from 5v2 to 7v1, going onto 8v2 is just one more step. A part from architectutral changes to the DB, the introduction of RTF capability in version 6v0 did cause some text in Modules to change their format appearance but fortunately it was rare. I know that you guy's have a lot of DXL customisations so get ready for lot's of DXL testing. You will also have to migrate in order of version, 5v2 to 6v0(SR1), then 6v0(SR1) to 7v1 (patch 7 & 13 applied) then onto 8v2. Any 5v2 exported partitions must be fully rejoined before this is started. Unless you have been staying up to date with FlexNet License Server releases, you'll need to upgrade to the latest version as a new "Telelogic" daemon will need to be used and new license keys acquired for 7v1 and 8v2. Telelogic bundles the Macrovision FlexNet License server up as a seperate install executable known as Telelogic License Server version 1.3. The whole thing needs to be fully rehearsed - highly recommended that you write up a migration plan that includes step by step instructions and tests that have to be done. I found that as you're filling out the steps, you'll uncover more steps and during the rehearsal even more additional steps will be unearthed. Good luck. ------------------------- Paul Miller Specification Practices Specialist, EuroCyber, Melbourne, Australia. Hi @all,
I've installed Doors 8.2 in my evaluation environment. For some tests I'm using DOORS 8.2 server and Doors 8.1 client on it. Mostly this configuration will crash on creation of baselines. It will show an error message and exit Doors. ![]() But this is an unsual configuration (hopefully) .... To get from v5.2 to v8.2 you'll need to migrate to v6 and v7 first. I doubt it matters which intermediate versions you use (6.0, 6.1..). To get from v5 to v6 you'll need the 'ModuleMigrator.dxl' (found on this site somewhere) and run it on your entire v6 database after migration. If you have a big database, I'd run it on each of the top-most projects instead of the entire database. No such tool is needed for v7 nor v8.
The intermediate DOORS versions are needed only to migrate the data and therefore need only exiist temporarly on the production server. Once you get to v8, client computers need only have v8 installed, they won't need v6 or v7. v6 licensing won't work for v6 and above versions. v6 licensing will work for v7 but not for v8. You will first need the v8 licensing which requires a new v8 license file. I believe the v8 licensing will work for v6 and v7. - Louie |

Just installed DOORS 8.2 and found that the highlight matches, which incidently is a great new feature, within Edit > Find causes DOORS to stop responding on the second find. This feature works for small modules but we don't have many of those.
On further investigation this feature does work but it's over 100 times slower than without highlight matches selected. Why????? ------------------------- - Martin Edited: 24-Jul-2007 at 10:41 by Martin Hunter |

I agree with Martin. In fact it is more than 100 times.
I tested identical modules in 7.1 and 8.2 for the "Find Next" feature. The module has 3200 objects. The first occurence of the search word occurs at object 282. In 7.1 it takes approx 2 sec to reach the object. In 8.2, it takes 5 m 48 sec to reach the same object. There is no further occurence of the word in the module. In 7.1, after about 5 sec, the message box appears that the end of the module is reached. In 8.2, I had to exit the database after 16 min as it was still searching. There is another feature described in the 8.2 version -that is 'display module attributes when the module is not open'. I check the module properties without opening the module, and I do not find the feature. Has anyone found this feature? - Krishna |

Hi Krishna,
It works for me - I highlight the module in the DOORS Explorer, RH Mouse click, select Properties and can see all Module level attributes and their current values under the General tab. You can also see the defined linkset pairs under the Linkset tab as well. What's dissapointing is that this "New" feature doesn't let you edit and change the values of the module level attributes, you still can't view module history as it's all greyed out and you can't edit the linkset pairs. Equal to that dissapointment is that you still can't select and view module level information next to the list of modules in the RH pane of the DOORS Explorer e.g. current baseline version, last modified by and when, who's using the module now etc etc. ------------------------- Paul Miller Specification Practices Specialist, EuroCyber, Melbourne, Australia. Last week I reported the following fault to Telelogic. "Open a DOORS module in read-only mode. Telelogic have confirmed this is a fault and it should be fixed in a future release. In the meantime if you wish to use the Find feature either don't select replace alternatively open the module in another mode, i.e. exclusive / shareable edit. - Martin ------------------------- - Martin |
