Answer:
DOORS on unix platforms uses Mainwin to make it look and behave the same as it does on windows, and applications built with Mainwin4 require a DISPLAY.

you should be able to do what you want with xvfb.

Hello World -

We are trying to run a backup script from a cronjob on a solaris box. However DOORS in batch mode is still trying to bind to an X server display.

Has anybody found a way around to run a doors batch job without the DISPLAY variable set?

Hi Werner,

another good solution for this problem is to use a VNC server.
It will emulate a X-server too and can be run without any admistrative rights ....
Download VNC for various platforms

You can also setup a dedicated client machine to do your archiving. You would have to setup the task scheduler to launch a batch file that would start a no-gui instance of the client and call a specified dxl script to execute.

You may already be aware of this...but a word of caution is that this method archives over the lan, which may or may not be an issue for you.

See the attached example bat file and dxl...again, sorry if you are already aware of this method. Good luck.
