Now that DOORS 9.0 is out, has anybody tried it yet?

Nonetheless, if you've tried it, any thoughts? I'm especially curious for anything on Web Access, since we might be interested in it here. Although the costs seem outrageously prohibitive, from what we've been quoted...

I have a trial key for DOORS 9.0 but I haven't installed it yet. I'm waiting for my Web Access trial key as well. I'll try to get it installed before I go home and check it out a little so I can give initial feedback before Monday (we're doing four 10 hour days so I won't be here tomorrow).

I can tell you the licensing model for Web Access is potentially absurd. $1000 + $200 maintenance fee for a "named user" license. Somewhat similar to a single-site license. $10,000 for a single global license. Somewhat similiar to a multi-site DOORS license. The question is whether or not the "named user" license can only legally be used by a single person or whether you can give it a generic name and have anyone use it at your office.

**cough**cough**

9.0 works with 8.3 licenses......

I requested a eval license and before I got it, installed the server and client on my test server. Without thinking I started the 9.0 client and it started up.

One improvement, is that the install of the 9.0 client no longer removes the previous client. Well I guess that depends on the situation, for my test server it's great though.

Just a quick preliminary. DOORS 9.0 looks and feels pretty much just like DOORS 8.3. The smooth scrolling appears to have been improved.

Has anyone tested if WEXP still works?

The WEXP has a very interesting history, it was never meant to get out into the public domain, was initially a special add-in created for a Telelogic customer, however, I digress.

As far as I know - Telelogic stop supporting WEXP a long time ago. It worked quite well with DOORS version 7.x, has some problems working with DOORS version 8.x, has problems working with Office 2007, so the trend here is that interoperation with new DOORS versions and MS Office is most likely only going to get worse.

The cost estimates previously provided are spot on.

However, users may be able convert DOORSNet licenses to DOORS Web Access at no charge (Do know conversion factors). I use ''may'' --because, I do not know if conversion applies to all situations, since this is second hand info from our account rep.

We haven't used WEXP, so that's not a problem for us.

The prices mentioned are the same as what we've heard.

Now I'm curious as to what I said that got moderated. They left my English-teacher-would-be-proud phrase about the pricing, but I don't recall saying "Nonetheless."

Oh well.

It looks like DOORS V9.1 will effectively kill WEXP. The email from Telelogic says "DXL encryption for DOORS 9.1 has been changed and as a result DXL which has been encrypted and is being used in previous versions of DOORS will not work with DOORS 9.1."

Since our Wexp sources are all encrypted, Wexp won't work.

While, I kind of like to see wexp buried. The announcement of wexp demise may be premature.

The news letter said that Telelogic Customer Support should be contacted for help with re-encryption.

Let me try and answer a few queries.

1. Notings got moderated or edited in this thread although as the DOORS Product Manager I'm not going to comment on price details - for that you need to go see your sales rep.

2. Installation of a major version always tries to leave behind the old version. Its only when we release a minor version will we upgrade the previous install.

3. WEXP? As you mention, we would prefer that WEXP be retiered in peace. The re-encryption for DXL with DOORS 9.1 is due to the fact that we have changed the underlying encryption tool used for encryption. We had no intention for this change to force the retirement of any customizations. Support will be able to help with re-encryption of DXL but do not have access to decryption tools for obvious reasons. We have not made the call as to what should happen if somebody requests support to reencrypt WEXP.

Hope these answers help

Hi All,

We installed DOORS ver 9.0 on a test server. We transferred some test modules from the current 8.2 database to the ver 9.0 database.
I want to install the ver 9.0 client on my computer. Can we install the ver 9.0 client on a computer which is also the client for the ver 8.2? Can we operate both the databases from the same machine? Are there any precautions to be taken before installing the ver 9.0 client?

Only problem I know of is that DOORS 9 file DOORS.dot will overwrite DOORS 8 DOORS.dot file and they may give different results.

Thanks, Ron, for the response.
Is there any way we can avoid the rewriting the Word template file? Is it possible to rename this template file before installing the application on the client computer?
We would like to have two templates on the computer - one for each version.

Maybe renaming the file is not possible.
Though these files are having the same name, they will be in different folders -DOORS_8_2 and DOORS_9_0 in C:\Program Files\Telelogic . I remember working with two templates when ver 8.2 was under test and ver 7.1 was the production database.

You can rename the file but that won't resolve the real problem.

The name shown by word and the icon is encoded within the vba which is password protected. So the user of word will see the same name for both files. So you have to figure out a workaround, which is possible.

If WEXP works in DOORS 9.1 with a straight re-encryption, then what possible reason could there be for not supporting your customers' wishes?

In fact, why not release an unencrypted version of WEXP and then disavow any support whatsoever?

Or, since Telelogic gave us the ability to encrypt in DOORS 8.1 or 8.2, why not give us the re-encryption tool so we can re-encrypt our own encryptions? Seems to me like it would save in support calls....

Seems like any or all of the above could solve this problem quite easily and cheaply.
