Hi,
We're trying to plan an upgrade from DOORS 5.2 to DOORS 6, but are having issues with the OS we're running. (We've still got lots of PCs - including some DOORS users - on Win95. We're planning to upgrade all PCs to WinXP, but aren't sure whether this will be before or after the DOORS upgrade.)

To help, I asked the Telelogic helpdesk on which Windows platforms were which versions of DOORS supported, and on which would they run but weren't supported. Unsurprisingly, the Helpdesk would only answer the first question! Hence, can anyone here help: which platforms will DOORS 5.2 and 6 run on, even if not supported. (For example, DOORS 5.2 isn't supported on Win95, but runs perfectly happily. However, I think DOORS 6 refuses to install on Win95.) I'm interested in DOORS 5.2 and 6 on Win95, 98, 2000, NT and XP.

Obviously, I accept any answer will have the caveat that it's people's own experience and I may get different results when trying it myself.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
Stuart Thomson.

I have run 5.2 extensively on Win98, and I believe this is supported. I have also had users running 5.2 on NT with no complaints. I had one user running 5.2 on XP and some odd things were happening, we did not sort out whether this was the client machine, or a rather overloaded server. 6.0 on XP has given me no complaints from my one user.

I have found trying to run 6.0 on a server with insufficient memory, that it appeared to work, but project archive and restore would hang indefinately. If you are going to test whether a configuration is working, I would suggest trying some of the more complex tasks.

Hope this helps,
Hazel Woodcock

Hi Stuart,

I run DOORS 5.2 on a WIN NT SP 6a server with few problems. Clients vary from 98SE, 2000, NT SP 6a clients, and one XP Pro. The bulk of the clients are 2000 laptops and NT workstations. However similar to what Hazel mentioned, occasionally the WIN XP Pro client gets something strange.

Mary

DOORS v6 has a serious memory wastage problem reasonably resolved in v60sr1.
