This post is to request information from the DOORS users community. Does anyone have any information regarding the handling of classified and unclassified data in DOORS? Specifically how to coordinate the implementation of a classified and unclassified database using DOORS. If anyone has any information regarding this topic, it would be very useful. Thanks in advance for your help.

Tough situation. You cannot "trusted download" a DOORS module from classified to unclassified, althgough I have got wind of a method where the contents of a module are completely dumped to a CSV file, its checked out and downloaded, and that CSV is used as input to a clever DXL that reconstructs the module with the correct Object IDs, but of course with no rich text, OLE diagrams, nor history.
Anyway ... If you can construct your module hierarchy such that no changes are made to unclassified modules migrated to the classified system (i.e. Classified stuff is in its own modules), you can use a glorified archive-and-resore process where the classified side sees read-only copies of the unclassified modules. You can have the unclassified module make references to classified parameters; such as "The ship shall have a cruising speed of <SHIP_Ref_02>". That references is clevery resolved when the module goes to the classified side. This method requires that there are no classified requirements, just classified performance: the enemy knows you can detect enemy missiles, but doesn't know how well. We've got a MASSIVE suite of DXL that move unclassified information from modules and inserts them into corresponding modules on the Classified side. This lets us insert classified information and do such things as secretly abandon requirements: No, the ship doesn't "cruise", it "flies". We are a little hazy on overriding parameters (it cruises at 30 not 25 knots). Its touchy but it works pretty well. All these cases require the unclassified owners to know that their modules go to the classified side. - Louie |
