Hello again,
Previously I wrote we were upgrading to 7.0 and asked if there was anything I needed to be aware of. We have decided to go from 6.0 to 7.1. Here are my questions; Has anyone done this? Do we have to install 7.0 first? I am thinking that 7.1 is everything and we don't have to install 7.0 first. Are there any problems installing 7.1? When we install 7.1 and bring DOORS back up does everything look the same and is it all suppose to be intact? Once again thanks for your help. Laurie Kostelecky |

No need for v7.0. I'd install v71 on the server with its own data location and its own port; perhaps "c:\DOORS Data\v7Data" and port 37777. Verify v6 and v7 peacefully coexist on the server while the engineers continue to work in v6. Install v7 on the clients, where v7 for now points to a practice DB. THEN migrate the data by turning off the v6 server, deleting the contents of \v7Data\ above, and copying the v6 data location to it. Run a v7 client as the Administrator and upgrade the data. Demonstrate it works from a client. Then move the v6Data folder to some backup and insert some practice DB informing folks to use v7.

If you have user DXL items in the menu system, the 7 to 7.1 upgrade is actually pretty messy, however 6 to 7.1 should be ok as Louie notes. 7.0 and 7.1 don't coexist on the same server
