![]() Answer: Thanks for confirming the information I have successfully installed a local DB to do testing and have the training DB also installed locally. The training DB for 8.3 is apparently the same as 8.2, according to the version shown during the install. | |

I am trying to setup a DB for doing testing on DOORS DXL.
I would like to work in a seperate DB from the 'live' database. Does anyone know if there is a training DB that can be installed for DOORS 8.3? Is it correct that the training DB is stored locally on the client PC so that each user has their own DB? Can another version of the 8.3 server be installed on the same PC as the 8.3 client and just use the shortcut switches to point to the local server DB rather than the 'live' DB? Thanks for any help you can provide. |

Not sure about the training DB.
You don't have to install the client twice to point to a different server. Make a copy of the DOORS shortcut and open its propertis, then use the -d switch to identify the test/local server in the target field. Example: "C:\Program Files\Telelogic\DOORS_8.3\bin\doors.exe" -d 36677@TESTSERVER You can actually have multiple DOORS servers running on the same machine, i.e. I have an 8.3 and 9.0 server running on my test server. You just need to set them up to use differnt ports, the default is 36677. ------------------------- Scott Boisvert Engineering Tools Administrator L-3 Communications - Avionics Systems scott.boisvert@l-3com.com Edited: 22-Aug-2008 at 16:57 by Scott Boisvert |

Look in the help file under Summary of Command Line switches for all the available switches you can use. Just because it says "Command Line" doesn't mean you can't use it in the target field of the shortcut.

Scott,
Thank you for the information. Do you know if you can install the second DB server on a different machine from the license server and on the same machine as the client? Edited: 22-Aug-2008 at 17:01 by Diane Cherry |

Yes you can install a database server on your DOORS client PC. That is the default if you run the Custom setup from database server setup (note: not from client setup) and choose to installa also the Trainin database.
It uses the same licence server as your normal setup. The DOORS clients use licenses, not the DB servers. ------------------------- Pekka.Makinen@softqa.fi SoftQA Oy -http://www.softqa.fi/ |
