I have approximately 10 users accessing our Doors 5.2 dbase via Doorsnet. The majority of documents open in under 30 seconds. The main document they access consists of about 5000 objects, including data from separate docs imported through traceability. It takes over 2 minutes to open in Doorsnet, while the same doc opens in under 30 seconds in Doors. Doors, the dbase and Doorsnet are all installed on the same windows 2000 for NT server. Any suggestsions?

Thanks,

John

I don't know DOORSnet, but know that:

o if you have a BUNCH of deleted objects your module will slow down drastically.
We've had modules with 200 objects and 6000 deleted one. Go figure. Go Purge.
o If you haven't baselined recently the History is very large and slow.
o The default module view should be simple.

Hi John,

I'm afraid that when you use DOORSNet, you at the mercy of the HTTP protocol which is not performance friendly when it comes to the transmission of large amounts of data.

Also, DOORSNet sits over the top of your DOORS DB service so you immediately take a performance hit with all of the DOORSnet processes having to request the DB service for acces and data. DOORSnet and your browser have to interafce with a Web server, so here's another performance hit. If the Web server is busy, you're going to have to wait. Then there's the HTTP protocol which transports the various types of mark-up code required display a DOORS view and it's data in your browser. If the data has a lot of pictures or DOORS tables, then this will add to the burden.

As a tip, performance can be improved by having a dedicated Web server co-located with the DOORS and DOORSNet servers - if you read deep into the "Managing DOORSNet" manual, there is some other advice on how to tune up the performance by installing multiple DOORSNet servers to share the load.
