The dxl command "filename" places a text field and a browse button in an existing dialog. What I am looking for is a command to open the file open dialog directly (maybe without having a dialog box) to let the user select a file name. This must be exactly what is executed when i click on the browse button created by the filename command.
Does anybody know a solution for that? Thanks Peter ------------------------- Peter |

There would be no problem launching a file browser on its own.
In what context do you want to launch the file browser? And how would you get the file name back if not into a field on a DB? ------------------------- Tony Goodman http://www.smartdxl.com |

Thanks for your reply Tony.
I want to launch the file browser from a dxl script that may not have a GUI.
The file name shall be given back to the dxl script which has called the browser.
Do you have an idea how to call the file browser on ist own?

Did anyone find a way to do this? I want to do the same thing.
I have a script that checks the length of text entered into certain columns and gives a report if any are out of bounds. I'd like to be able to just have a "Save..." button at the bottom that would open a standard file browser, which, when you hit "Okay" in it, would just go on and write the file---bypassing the need for a text box in the DB. Better late than never, I suppose: you can display file open or save dialogues using OLE. The attached code illustrates two approaches for open, and one for save.
This works on XP, but the controls may be different on Vista, so to implement an OS-independent solution you may need a bit more logic! This code uses the standard DOORS OLE functions, but if you're going to use OLE I'd highly recommend taking a look at the Include file to get OLE/COM easier thread. regards, Simon ------------------------- Simon Morrish simon.morrish@eu.panasonic.com http://panasonic.co.uk Panasonic ideas for life |
