![]() Answer: You don't have to install the client twice -- use a shortcut that points to database. In the doors help file look for command line switches which will give you the following info -data (-d) port@server or database_folder Specifies which DOORS database to use. If you're using a database server, the parameter specifies the port that the server is using and the name of the server computer (for example, 36677@myserver). Otherwise, the parameter is the path to the folder that contains the DOORS database files. Note that a DOORS 7.1 client can't use a pre-7.0 database server. | |

I am trying to install two different instances of DOORS 8.0 clients to point to two different instances of the DB on one desktop. Everytime I try to do the second install - the client uninstalls the first client.

Does anyone know whether you can run two different client versions on one PC? I'm working on one project that's using DOORS 7.1 and another one that's going to use DOORS 8.1.

Yes you can, 7.1 and 8.1 are installed in separate directories.

There was a problem that when you installed a later version it tried to uninstall the previous version. Thus you may need to install v8.1 and then v7.1; or perhaps it just uninstalls a previous version of the general version; will unistall 8.0 when you install 8.1.
You'd of course have different DOORS icons; might as well change the name to reflect the version "Doors v71" and "Doors v81". - Louie |
