Answer:
It's a checkbox in the module properties. Open the module for edit, and look at the bottom of the first module properties page. It's available in DXL too - just not documented anywhere of course! If you do linking by attr, Link History is pointless since you have the history of the link attribute AND the actual link history both saved.

How would one turn off saving just the link history?  We are constantly deleting and recreating links and this history slows down the opening of modules quite a bit when nightly you're running batch scripts to recreate your links.  Whats odd is that it doesn't always seem to show (possibly not always save) the link history.  But the history is distinctly there.

So does anyone know how to turn it off?

Your create links script really should do this:

void CreateLinksObj(Object obj)
Figure out desired links
Figure out existing links.
If a link is in both lists above remove it from both lists.
Delete which links are still in the existing links list
Create whichever links are still in the desired list.

Skip Lists are a natural for the above.

Not only will the above make your script run faster, it will remove the history for all those recreations, and allow for 'suspect links' to work.

Could your question be expanded to:
--- How do I turn off link history or delete link history?

Heh.  Thanks.  I was looking this up for my boss since I'm slowly taking over his responsibilities with DOORS.  He said he'd looked into this before so I assumed he'd have checked so obvious a place.  I'm going to mess with him on Monday.
