I'd like to be able to develop DXL from home. I don't have network access to work from home, but I don't really need it for what I want to do. I'd just like to have a DOORS server running at home, one client installation from which to develop the DXL, and maybe create some dummy documents on the server. Has anyone done this? I'm afraid I will need a license. Anyone know if there's a chance of getting a free home license?

To run DOORS you need a license for sure.
Does your company give you a notebook? then try to get them to buy you a node-locked license or maybe a dongle.
Or if it's only a one-time activity ask Telelogic for a evaluation license.

Sometimes you can get a 30 day trial license for your account rep. But other than that, you'd have to get a license checked out from your company or a node locked license on a laptop like Karl says. Unfortunately either of the two involving your company technically mean your company has rights to whatever it is you're developing. Assuming you're trying to write something in your own name that you might want to sell.

The lack of the ability to do DXL development at home is a huge issue Telelogic still hasn't addressed nor do they seem likely to.

Yes, ideally, I'd like to have the possibility of developing a suite of DXL tools that I could potentially sell. And, yes, using my company's license to do that would have legal issues. I guess I could buy my own license. I'm not sure how much a license costs. And, I'm not sure I'm that dedicated to this idea. I just thought it might be fun to do some development in my spare time.

A license is around $5-7000. And then after that its a few hundred bucks to keep it going.
