I use long command line switches in the shortcut icons I pass out to my users.
I find the restriction (I assume Windows OS) of 255 bytes in my command line means I can't specifiy all the switches I would like. Does anyone know any way of getting round this problem? P.s. I don't want to mess with changing the registry for each of my users - I don't know how to do this remotely, and doubt I would have the required access to anyway. |

255 character limit very annoying. We reach that limit for the various addins folders.
You can update the registry on each client ..err.. I mean have each engineer update their own registry. While they may not have access to the registry area that affects all users of the machine they do have rights to modify their local area. Save the attached to a file of type *.reg, perhaps "v81-Addins.reg", and store it on a file. Instead of publishing the icon tell them to double click on the reg file and confirm updating the registry. That will deploy the addins for them and relieve the need for all that wasted space in the icon. - Louie |

If its DOORS v8.2 change '8.1' to '8.2' in the reg file.
The original of this file can be exported from Regedit: If addins are working on one machine then navitate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Telelogic\DOORS\8.1\Config and export. You should replace the 1st exported line that may look like "Registry Editor bla bla bla version 7.4 bla bla ba" with "REGEDIT4". Otherwise the reg file will not be understood by anyone running an older version of Windows; one whose RegEdit version is less than 7.4. REGEDIT4 is the RegEdit version from a century ago and its recognized by all RegEdit current versions, at least since Win95. - Louie |
