Hii,

When we were trying to export a Word document from Word to Doors, the process crashed half the way in between and we got an runtime error:4605 saying this method or property is not available because there is a memory or disk problem.
This error keeps on coming again and again when we try to export from word.
Is this error because of hardware problem or there is sumthin wrong in Word or DOORs?
The configuration of the m/c on which we r running DOORs is 1 GB RAM, P4, 40GB HDD, Windows XP.
We are using DOORs 8.1 version.
Plz help us.

Typically, there is something wrong in Word. The Word export is done by a Visual Basic macro and does not handle memory well and quite often crashes on large documents.

If you have a large and complex Word document which you want to export to DOORS, save it as a Rich Text Format (RTF) file from Word and then import the RTF file into DOORS. The RTF import works better than Word export.

If the crash is always at the same point (usually about a graphic) you may get away with splitting the document and importing in two (or more) parts. I have found that sometimes the graphic holds more than you can see in the word document. Some times there are several images overlaid which confuses the exporter.

I'm testing the Doors 8.0 version. When I tried to import one Word document to Doors, I also had the same problem. The error position was the visio OLE object that was a damaged. But when I converted the Word file format from .doc to .rtf and re-tried. there was no errors!. If your situation is same, I recommand you to convert your document format...

The file size of the rtf formated document is bigger than the doc format. 5~6 times bigger..m.m;

Be careful with converting MSWord documents from the .doc format to the .rtf format. I've found that some OLE graphics get converted to a static picture format and lose their OLE association with the application that they were created with.
