I've got a function that closes invisible modules. I know that close a link-module will fail until all the formal modules that have links in that link-mod are closed; thus this function needs to first close all formal modules and then close the link moduels.

I have a nagging memory that, for some reason, sometimes all the formals do not close. I have a nagging memory that I used to know why. If so, then this function should loop through all the formals and close them TWICE, and then close the invisible link modules.

Anyone confirm the need to close invislble open formals twice before closing the link modules?

I've never had a problem with modules not closing after just one close call.

Hi Louie,

only a suggestion ...
... could this problem depend on some layout or better attribute DXL, that will reopen the closed modules?

Greetings

Only time I had this problem was when I had done some recursion over baselines of the module in question, in which case the mod was closed but the baselines were 'invisibly' open.

Louie,

You are correct in thinking that you need to loop through the module twice.
Layout DXL will open modules again after you have closed them.

BTW I learnt this from YOU a long time ago....

Yes. But I cannot seem to reproduce a situation where a close(mod) command didn't actually close the module; when a seconde close(mod) command would work.

Perhaps, however, they changed things such as when you close a module associated with a currently open link-set, that the link-set now gets 'unloaded' allowing the module to be closed gracefully.

And maybe they changed things where link-partner modules are not automatically loaded. I seem to recall back in v4 days where module load times were extrordinary (15 minutes) because the module you wanted to see was linked to this HUGE module far away on the network. Maybe that fix resolved this issue.

Anyway, it doesn't seem to be needed now. Close the formals, close the link-mods.

I do notice that when you close a module then other modules may close automatically, notably partners when a link-set is loaded. Thus getting a list of all modules you want to close in a Skip, and then closing everything in the Skip can fail because a module may get closed before you get to it.

Attached are the functions I use to close invisible module. function flCloseUnseenMods() is intended to be called from fCloseUnseenMods.
