Answer:
Yes, but these functions only return permissions for the current user. They do not give you the permissions on an item for a specified user. The following does.

Maybe I'm missing something simple here, but I don't see an easy way of getting a user's access rights to a module without trying to open the module.

Is there an easy way to do this? I know you can use read or edit calls, but this then opens the module, which I don't want to do.

Here is a function to return the permissions a user has on a particular item.

This must be an some undocumented DXL?

Also, I was thinking what if I get the item of the module and then use canRead, canModify, etc... Those don't require having the module open. I think canRead, canModify, etc on a module requires you to have the module open, no?
