Answer:
I've only ever migrated by copying the v5 data folder to a new v6 data folder. Would not even consider sharing the same folder.

One last thing to try. Be sure to turn OFF the v5 Service before copying these files to the v6 data folder.

I'm currently attempting to migrate our v5.2 database to v6 (on the way to v7).
I'm pointing the v6 installation at the existing v5.2 data folder. This all seems to go OK.
However when I log into v6 for the first time, I enter the Administrator password and then Doors just opens up showing a blank database - I don't get the expect message asking to confirm to proceed with the migration.

I've done this process a number of times before on a number of smaller databases, all of which went OK.

This database is 60Gb+ in size.

I suggest that you create a separate folder for the v6 DB and then [1] disable the v5 server [2] copy the file structure to the v6 folder [3] run v6. Is something goes wrong you still have a valid v5 DB.

If you don't see any projects then your v6 server location is incorrect and you have initialized a blank v6 DB somewhere. Try running v5 and see if your stuff is still there. The select your drive letter in Windows Explorer and search for a folder named "u1000001.dir". I suspect you'll find two; one in the v5 data area and one in the v6.

I don't recall that v6 ever prompted you to "migrate"; you'll need to run the slow "moduleMigrator.dxl" script from the Support web site.

I'm pretty sure that v6 is pointing to the right location [1] I've check the registery [2] it's prompting for the Administrator username and password
Only the one u1000001.dir found
If I disabled the v6 service I can still see the database with v5.2

I was expecting the following message -

Migrating this database to v6 format will make the data inaccessible to pre-v6 clients. Migration is irreversible: we recommend that the database is backed up prior to migration.

Select 'Confirm' to proceed with migration now. Select 'Cancel to exit, leaving the database unchanged.

Managed to duplicate your symptoms. You must reboot the system AFTER installing v6 and BEFORE running the client. Don't know why.

Try this: Turn off the v5 server; copy data to DataV6, restart v5 Server, Uninstall DOORS v6, reinstall v6 using a new port (36666?) and pointing to the DataV6 folder, reboot, run the v6 client. Then run "moduleMigrator.dxl".

Tried rebooting before launching v6 client as advised - still no joy.
Thanks for the suggestion though Louie!
Database still appears blank.

Have uninstalled v6, reinstall v5.2 and the database appears OK.

Looking within the data folder, I've noticed that there's now a folder called 'v6data'.

We *thought* we had, but it turns out that we'd not stopped the database service before taking the copy of the data folder!
