Answer:
When using the traceability wizard, be sure to check the "all modules" box, rather than the "open modules only" box, otherwise your trace column only works when the module the other end of the link is already open.

I suspect the reason for trace info appearing and then dissappearing while using the suspect links tool is that the module the other end of the link is being opened and then closed by the suspect links tool.

Is it possible to reference an object in another module such that that object's text appears in the current module?

For example:

I am creating a test case for a requirement. I would like the requirement text to appear in my test case module so that when the requirement is changed this is automatically reflected in the test case module.

Is this possible in the current version of DOORS?

Sue,

Yes, it's possible to do what you are asking. It's call a "Traceability column" (aka. Layout DXL). You can create the column by selecting the menu item "Analysis/Wizard" from test case module. You should be able to following the wizard and at the end of the wizard you are asked which attributes to display. You should be able to select "Object Heading" or "Object Text" (or both) depending on what you want to display.

You may also want to use the suspect links function so that from the test case module you willsee an indication of requirements that have changed.

Thanks.

Now I have a new problem. When I use the traceability wizard it creates the columns but sometimes there is nothing in them, and sometimes there is. It is hard to describe.

I tried to clear a suspect link in one of my objects. When I did DOORS temporarily showed the desired text in my traceability column but was unable to clear the suspect link (it gave me the following error: "Cannot create a 01/29/04 01:38:57 in this context"). Once I left the clear suspect links dialog box the text in the traceability column disappeared again.
