Hi,

Does anyone know if the export process from DOORS to MSWord uses the Windows operating system clipboard in anyway(DOORS v7.x and beyond)?

I seem to recall that earlier versions of the tool did do this. If it does, then I assume that this would mean that users should not perform any copy\cut n paste activities on their PC whilst the export is active.

The export uses Windows clipboard. Going through the DXL code in lib\dxl\standard\export\office\word.dxl it uses very heavily a function based on the DXL setRichClip function.

Because export to Word uses the windows clipboard, users should be aware that they must not perform any cut and paste and not open any word documents while the export is in progress.

In the past I have opened another word document during the export and guess what? Stuff got pasted into that document! Not sure if this is still the case.

Yep, I had a Word document open from a web page the other day and DOORS exported into that instead of a new Word document!

Me too. WEXP 11.4 even gives you an explicit warning to this effect. This is a problem for us since WEXP takes about 1/2 hour to export our largest graphics rich documents. It gives users an excuse to go for a long coffee break :-) Note that I've only ever seen spurious stuff placed in the clipboard by DOORS getting pasted into other applications (Word docs, emails, etc). I've never seen an instance of the opposite, i.e. something copied/cut from an external application getting pasted into the doc exported from DOORS.

@ Tony

This is still the case of copying something else when an export to Word is done.

Another observation while exporting DOORS module to Word document. The contents of the last object of the module to be exported to Word remains on the clipboard even after the Word document is saved. Is there any way to wipe the clipboad clean after the export process is completed?

Wouldn't the simplest way be to have a blank object as the last item exported?
