Is there a DXL equivalent to the "Tools -> Refresh DXL Attributes" menu item in a formal module?

Yes, a null value means recalculate. This means that if your AttrDXL normally generates a null, then you should have it actually generate a space; otherwise it will recalculate very frequently, certainly whenever you scroll the module:

Result = calculate the value I want for this Attr DXL
if (null Result) Result = " "
obj.attrDXLName = Result
