Answer:
Ok, I'm feeling like an idiot. After reading that paper, it finally hit home that there are TWO access assignments for attributes...I'd only set Definition to read only, when what I really wanted was Value. Everything's fine now. Thanks.

According to everything I've read, one should be able to restrict modify access to an object's text/heading while permitting users to modify an attribute value of that object. I've tried every possible combination of access rights I can think of and can't seem to get this working correctly - I make the module RM, the attribute I want modify permissions for RM, and every other attribute R only, and the user can go in and modify anything he/she pleases. If I try setting the individual objects to R only with the same attribute permissions, the user can't modify the attribute value either. Please help, I am at a loss here! Using DOORS 8.0 on Win2k OS, DB is on an internally public server. Thanks very much.

Setting the object access rights to a specific level sets simultaneously the highest possible
access right for the attributes. Thus if you set the objects to be read only, then the
attributes can not be modified. If you want to have a module in which the user can not
modify Object Text and Object Heading attributes but can modify other attributes,
maybe you can set those access rights to the attributes, i.e. set Access (Value)
in Edit Attributes for Object Text and Object Heading to be read only.

BTW, I noticed that there is an excellent paper and presentation on
DOORS access rights from Frank Lipski in the Telelogic Resource Center
- just search for "controlling access" in the Resource Center.

This is what I did, and it still allows the user to modify the object heading and text. I only had one attribute set to RM, every other one was R only. Very puzzling. Seems as if I'm missing a step? I'll check out that paper, thanks.
