Hello,

I'm getting the following error when I am doing various things in the module, clicking on the menu bar, etc...

-R-E- DXL: null Item parameter was passed into argument position 1
-I- DXL: execution halted
-R-E- DXL: null Item parameter was passed into argument position 1
-I- DXL: execution halted

Sorry it's so vague...I'm trying to get to know DXL, but am not very up on it yet...Any generic reasons this would happen?

Thanks,

Patrick

Hi Patrick,

If you're just getting into DXL you'll get sick of errors like these!!! This sort of error usually occurs when an invalid object (or something similar) is passed into a function. An example:-

save(m)
close(m)

This code would save and close the module that is assigned to 'm' however if 'm' had not be assigned properly or if for some reason 'm' was null then an error such as you are getting would show up.

As to why this appears when you're clicking on menu bars (and other objects) i'm not quite sure. Are these menus etc. things that you've defined yourself or are they the ones built into DOORS

Cheers

Hugh

Do you get these errors when you open the module normally, or just when you open it one way and then use the Edit >>Edit Mode menu to change modes, say from Read to Edit? Once you get the errors will you routinely continue to get them until you exit and restart DOORS?

If you get these errors while loading a View then the culprit would be bad DXL in layout or attribute DXL.

Ok, I was trying to narrow down the problem, and it looks like it occurs when select an object in the module, then click on LINK>>EDIT LINKS

It happens on objects with/without links...And it happens most of the time, but not all the time.

I have not modified any DXL at all...

I might be chasing my tail on this one....

Thanks.

Patrick

Hi Patrick,

Tried to re-construct the conditions you said, couldn't produce the error at all though (i'm running DOORS7.0 SP-1) if it only happened on objects with links then i'd be tempted to say that the object the link pointed to was deleted/inacessible...

Sorry i can't be more help

Hugh

Have you created custom link attributes?

I vaguely remember experiencing problems with editing link attributes in this way.

I have not created any link attributes at all...

I'm not sure if this problem is even worth bothering with unless I find out down the road it's affecting something else...

Thanks for everyone's ideas!
