Hi all,

today something strange occurred: we have a DXL that copies view definitions from one module to another. If the view definition uses attributes which are not in the target module these attributes will be created. The DXL is a modified version of a kitchen script (yes, I know ...).

Now, today a user used that script and in the target module the Object Identifier column is empty. When I look at the attributes, the absolute number and prefix are there. When you select the Object Identifier column to be used as datatip or in graphical view.

Any ideas?

Guesses: [1] The name of this newly created attribute is 'Object Identifier ' with a trailing space. [2] While the title of the column is 'Object Identifier', the name of the displayed attribute is different.

Check the properties carefully of that column.

Louie,

thank you for your response, but I had the same guesses already myself.
I tried to insert a new column selecting the Object Identifier from the list and that column is blank, too.
And that I find strange.

Suggestion -- clone the module and post an archive of the archive if you system will permit.

Wild-Guess: the module-level 'Prefix' attribute has some sort of rich text formatting that hides the real text, or perhaps turns such text white. To get rid of formatting, copy the prefix to Notepad, cut it there, then paste it back.

Also, select an object and run this dxl:
print "<" (identifier(current Object)) ">\n". See if it prints anything.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Ron
Cloning: did that, but the prefix (module attribute) is not cloned, so the Object Identifier is just the Absolute number.

Louie
Copy to notepad and paste back: no effect.
I cleared the prefix but the Object Identifier column remains empty.

Your dxl snippet prints the identifier (prefix and absno) correctly.

Another thing:
when I select the Object Identifier column the justify button is active, while in other views (in the same module), where the identifer is displayed, when you select the column the justify button is greyed out.
