I have a bunch of modules (maybe 30 or more) that I need to extract specific information out of into one module to create one whole document. How do I do this? I am a newbie to DOORS and I don't know DXL. Is this something I can accomplish with the DXL wizard or do I need an experienced programmer (I am not) to write a DXL script to grab the information and then dump it into one module? Any insight would be appreciated. Has anyone ever done this?

Thanks, Laura Doyle

Well, the easiest way is to just drag and drop the info from your old modules into the new one. It is time consuming though. Other than that, a custom DXL is necessary. I've never done anything like it, but someone might have something you can use.

I guess I should also state that this is something that I will need to do periodically and the content will be changing every few months.

If you only want to generate a report on a monthly basis -- you could look into docexpress by telelogic.

Suggestion: Create a view in each module of the information that is to be exported. Use WEXP to export the views to one document.

What is WEXP? I have DocExpress and that is an option but I was hoping to possibly keep it in a module so others could view it (I am the only one with a DocExpress license). Thank you for your response.

WEXP is an add on that gives better export to MSWord. If you search the Forums for "get WEXP" you will find a threadthat gives the major answers. I've never used DocExpress so can't offer a comparison. WEXP is very versatile, but I still prefer to do some tuning in the Word file. This should be a link to it, but may not work for you. https://support.telelogic.com/en/doors/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=17&threadid=2171&highlight_key=y&keyword1=wexp

Laura,
Easiest way is to use the Copy Object function from the Tools, Functions menu, which will allow you to copy groups of objects from any modules (need to be in the source module) into a your new report module, there is also a facility in there to automatically create links at the same time, so in future you could use traceability to generate views. No programming required and should not take long to compile your report.
