Answer:
My observation is the same as Pekka's: Apply does not remove the link, unless the CP was a Delete. I also agree with Louie that if one has a CPS in place, deletions should go through it. Thanks both for your reponses, Bart

When a change proposal is created for an object, it gets linked to it. If, over the lifetime of an object, it is decided that the object can be deleted, the link from the CP will prevent that. Is there a 'proper' way to clean up or purge old CPs (e.g., ones that have been applied? Would manually deleting the particular CPs cause any problem in the CPS? Thanks, Bart

Applying a CP should remove the CP link to the source object. Either some corruption took place and the link didn't get deleted (perhaps the person applying the CP didn't have rights to the link module which is unlikely), or more likely there are still active CPs against this object.

Anyway, I'd filter the CP module for objects whose CP Attr - Status is either 'Rejected' or 'Applied', then start removing outgoing links from all of them.

- Louie

BTW, if the module is under control then so should the decision to delete a requirement; thus your delete object requests SHOULD go through CPS.

Louie, maybe I misunderstood your post, but apply does not remove the link from change proposal to the object from which the CP was made.

Doh! I guess our standard procedure for applying or rejecting was removing the links. Cannot think of a good reason why we would want to preserve them for inactive CPs.

It would certainly be more intuitive to (automatically) clean up links after the CP has been dealt with one way or the other. This will prevent the in-links in the affected module from getting cluttered with CP history. At my company we have decided to periodically purge applied and rejected CPs...

Bart, I'm currently working with CP's at work. If you don't want any documentation go ahead and delete the outlink via object properties. If you want any change documented just submit a CP for the object you want to delete and make it primary in the Duplicate sets so when you approve it don't conflict with the other CP for the same object your about to delete.

I am curious how you are removing the links of applied CPs. I was removing them by directly editing the Proposals module but Telelogic said I shouldn't be doing that because it can cause problems with the Change Proposal System. Their recommendation was to delete the Proposals module after all the CPs were applied. But that would remove all history. (Even if the links are removed from applied CPs, you can still view the CP property sheet inside the Proposals module for history.) Additionally, our requirements modules contain attributes for several products so the changes getting submitted are ongoing and many. So the recommendation I received is not very feasible. I am curious how other companies are doing this.

Nancy I've been making changes to the change proposal since the first time i used and i didn't have any problems. That includes changes in the Reviewing change Proposal Window and nothing happened. It's imposible no to work in the CP system module cause that's one of it purposes. By that way if you have more than one CP to one object you have to enter into the CP System to make one of them Primary, cause it wont work. Hava a pleaseant Day
