I am having an intermittent problem with DOORS v8.1. On startup of the client, it hangs at the step 'Connecting to LDAP Services' (or whatever the exact text is) for about 1 minute, before restarting DOORS and encountering the same problem again (and again). The only way to fix this is a reboot of the client machine, which can be time consuming (especially if connected through VPN). My question therefore is what exactly is happening (and failing) at this point in the startup cycle, and where should i be looking to find a solution?

Did you log in to DOORS as Administrator and test the LDAP login credentials (File>Properties>LDAP Configure>check Configuration)? [if you can get to the login screen....]
We've been using DOORS V8.1 with LDAP successfully. Occasionally, clients connecting over VPN will get a message from DOORS: "Problem communicating with LDAP server; The connection to the LDAP server may be down or incorrectly configured" It's due to an intermittent LDAP server problem on our side, and if people disconnect VPN and reconnect, that usually fixes it. ------------------------- Joseph DUBIN joseph.dubinNOSPAM@freescale.com Freescale Semiconductor, Inc. |

Hi Joseph, thanks for getting back to me.
The check configuration tool reports no problems - and the problem is so intermittent that I suspect, like you, we are having an intermittent LDAP server problem. It's more of an annoyance than anything, as it can take up to 5/10 minutes to reconnect to my work's VPN. Also, it's not only connecting through VPN where we have problems - it also happens when directly connected to the network. |
