Hello all,
This seems like it should be an easy thing, but for some reason I can't delete a display scheme in DOORS. I go to tools=>options=display, click the scheme, click delete, get the warning that it is not reversible, and click OK. (Also tried clicking 'apply') I close the window, then go back into the option screen and the scheme is back again. Also tried closing the client and it still comes back. Any ideas? And while we're on this subject, does anybody know if it's possible to use a custom scheme as the 'Database Default Scheme' in the database properties? Only the built-in ones show up. I suspect not, but figure it's worth asking. Thanks, Kevin |

Kevin, No answer or suggestion to your first issue, but with regards to your second issue, I wonder if the reason one (assume db manager) can not change the default display scheme is to help keep the users (the db manager's coworkers) from yelling if the db manager were to change it. If you work with people like I do, I would be tied to a stake and burned if I, as the db manager, kept changing the fonts, colors and size of text on people. Although people want certain things changed, they all want it a different way, so I suppose the best way is to let them do their own schema's. I've thought about this issue before and this is what I reasoned. Yeah? |

Got the same behavior in v7.1 Very odd. I resolved it as follows:
Tools >Options >Display tab. select the scheme, delete, and confirm. Apply. click a different tab, perhaps the "password" tab click on the Display tab Apply again. OK I doubt you can delete the original 3 standard schemes. - Louie |

Louie and Becky,
Thanks for your replies. In response to your post, Becky, I wonder if people's settings would change if you changed the schema after the fact. I've noticed that schemas don't quite work the way I expected. I thought that people's settings would be tied to the schema they've selected, and thus when that schema was changed, their settings would update accordingly. I'm not sure they actually work that way. I did a little testing and it seems like they instead initialize somebody's settings to those of the schema. I think when somebody clicks a schema, DOORS just copies the schema settings to the user's preferences. The user is then free to go their own way and if the administrator updates the schema, it doesn't actually changing any user settings until they go back and click it again. In this sense, setting the database default schema to a customized one would start everyone off with the same settings and then let them deviate from there. Try this: 1. Login as one user and create a schema 2. Login as another user and click that schema for that user 3. Close out and relogin as the first user. Go to display options. Select the schema, make a change, click "Save As...", and click OK to save using the same name. (Contrary to what the user guide says, you can't change a schema by clicking it and changing the settins. You must resave it under the same name.) 4. Login as the second user and go to display options. That user's options won't reflect the schema changes. Thanks for your post as well, Louie. I tried what you suggested but didn't have any luck. We're using DOORS 8.0 here, so I wonder if the workaround you found no longer works in 8.0? Not sure. Also tested in our 8.1 test database and had the same problem. Anyway, I'll submit a problem report to Telelogic about it. Thanks for the feedback, guys. Kevin |

Kevin,
I suppose my comment was only for people who did not know how to choose their own schemas. Anyway, as I am not a db manager on any program right now, I can not do any testing. I actually came to the DOORS forum to see if anyone could help me understand any linking enhancements to System Architect in 8.0. If you know, I would appreciate the info. Otherwise, I'll keep checking yours to see what updates are made to your first question.
Thanks,
Becky
