My overall objective:
Create new objects in module B by copying all objects in a view of module A. Create links from the new items in B back to the original items in A. Problem: The links must not use the default DOORS linkset.

When I use the Copy Objects wizard it doesn't prompt me for Linkset and seems to automatically try to create a DOORS linkset. I believe I already created the linkset that it should use. I didn't see any way to select my own linkset.

Am I doing something wrong? Or can I use the Traceability Explorer to convert the DOORS links to my desired link types as a follow-up step? I hope to avoid manually fixing all the links or having to write a DXL script to do it. A canned DXL script would be a good second best.

Thanks,
Larry Fast

You have to define a specific default linksets for this module combination:

Just open Module B, select "File -> Module Properties" from the menu, select the "Linksets" tab in the new dialogue box.
With the "Add" button, you can create a new default linkset for a pair of modules: The source module is already Module B, for Target module select your Module A, and select the Link Module you want to use.
Then tick the "Mandatory" checkbox, to allow only links through the specified link module.

When this is done, all links created from B to A are going through the selected Link module, including the ones created by the "Copy opjects" wizard.

More information can be found in the Doors Help under "Linkset Control".

Regards,

Peter

The default DOORS Links link module can cause a lot of problems if users do not realise where their links are being created.

It would be nice to see a database property that allowed the administrator to turn this feature off.

You can effectively disable the use of the default by creating, and soft-deleting (don't purge) a link module called "DOORS Links" in every folder in your project.

The user is then issued a warning if they attempt to create a link without the linkset pairing setup.
