Hi All,
I am importing an Excel spreadsheet to a new DOORS module (version 7.1). I created a template with the attributes same as the column headings of the spreadsheet and created a blank module based on the template. I saved the Excel spreadsheet as .csv file. I opened the blank module and imported the .csv file with the options "By column labels" and "Create new objects". The .csv file is imported without problem. When I checked the ID number sequence, it started from 8442 instead of 2 ( there is already one blank object in the module). I deleted and purged the module, created another new module and then imported the .csv file. The ID is starting at the same number ( there are 4219 rows including the heading row in the .csv file). It appears that the objects were imported thrice, with the first two instances purged. I can not understand what is happening. Am I not importing the csv file correctly ? |

Object identifiers are consumed, even if you don't save your changes.
Try this: create a new empty module. Add an object. Close the module without saving changes. Open the module again and add a new object. It's absolute number will be 2, not 1. I suspect you have cancelled out of a previous import and thus the identifiers have been consumed without you realising. I wouldn't worry too much about the absolute numbers of objects - they are just unique identifiers. As an aside, it is a bad idea to attempt to keep module "tidy" by having sequential identifiers - i have seen this many times and it always end in tears. ------------------------- Tony Goodman http://www.smartdxl.com |
