Has anybody got a slick way of parsing the history text file to get average logins by month, week, etc..? Also how many times and when a user has logged in?

I can get the txt file to excel via word table and get the date and user in separate columns, but I run out of ideas past that.

Thanks!

Probably the easist way to go for you would be to take a look at the frequency function in excel.

While there are multiple approaches to get were you are going -- using the frequency function is relatively easy to use and help should be able to guide you to your destination.

thanks for the reply, but that function doesn't seem to work with text per its description? my entire data array is just the "login for account xyz", and I had the bin array specified. Got a 0 as a result.

Rich,

We have a script available here called "Parse Login History" that may be of use.

thanks for the script, was able to run it and select a user, etc...but output file created was still 0 kb and had nothing in it after running? For instance, selected a user and gui said 24 records collected, but then the txt file was still 0kb and empty. Am I doing something wrong?

thanks

also noted that regardless of user chosen, results always come back as "Exported 24 records", don't know what that should correlate to, but the users have definitely not ALL only logged in 24 times.

I save the login_history.txt file as an Excel file. The Excel file can then be imported to a DOORS module and with a suitable dxl script, get the information we want. Or a VBA script on the Excel file, will give the same results.

great idea, thanks for that. I will prolly just use filters and views with an updated file weekly or monthly instead of scripts, but thanks!
