Our DOORS users (V 7.0) have to work on different databases on one machine.
I know that there's the possibilty to create different short cuts, e.g.  <doors.exe -d 36677@MyLocalMachine> - like it is mentioned in the post "two databases, one machine" - to get connected to different databases.
But we want to design a little GUI that makes it possible for the user to decide to which database he wants to get connected to at every DOORS startup.
I've already tried to create a short cut to a DXL-script (which sets the Windows registry Data) with the parameters -D and -C, but the first thing that DOORS seems to execute is to connect to the initial database even before the settings are changed. Only when starting the next DOORS session the right database connection is established.

Any ideas how this issue can  be solved?

Thanks Thomas

I guess you've solved the problem of installing more than one database on the same server. But I guess you're talking about allowing a single client to access more than one away database, which are loaded on different servers.

Different Icons are the desired way to go. This works so long as the user knows that there are different databases and knows how to choose between the two. One Icon is "DOORS System Engineering" and the other is "DOORS Software Engineering". I've got several such Icons.

You're method of updating the "data" value in the Registry will work, but as you noticed you are already logged in to a particular database and the "data" is only read before hand.

I don't see any reason why your DXL cannot notice when the user actually changes the Data, and this DXL invokes DOORS after the change and then auto-logs out the user of the current session. Others may know of a more elegant method, but you could invoke doors with DXL via something that looks like "system("doors.exe")".
