Hi, anyone experienced this phenonemon? While actively using DOORS, either as admin or normal user, I'm kickout out of the session and have to restart the DOORS client. E.g. today I had to add a larger list of new users into our database. After finishing this list and confirming the "OK" button, I get a requester stating the connection to the DOORS-Server was lost. Needless to mention, that all data typed in was lost as well. Same behaviour is recognizable while creating normal data in the DOORS client. Currently, the only workaround is to periodically save the current work (at least every 2 minutes or so), which is softly said disturbing our "workflow". Any hints on this topic? /Wolfram Webers

Hit save every 2 minutes?
I hit the save button every 2 seconds ;-)

Sounds to me like you have a network problem.
Try pinging the server from your client and see what the reponse times are like.

Wolfram,

This is not normal behavior.

I don't even think this is a network issue, but it could be.

You need to look at the logs on your server. Talk with one of your IT people.

Also, it could be something as simple as a bad router/switch somewhere.

Good luck.

@Tony: Yes, but higher 'hit'-frequencies could lead to serious injuries I doubt network problems as it is only DOORS having this strange behaviour. But I will further investigate this together with our IT-people. Thanks so far, Wolfram.

i have users saying they are experiencing the same problem. i checked both the application log and the system log and find nothing. i still have not figured out why this happens. i have also had the database service stop for no apparent reason.

For people with this problem...

What version of DOORS are you running?

Are all clients using the same version of DOORS with the same patch and the same icon?

What platform is the DOORS server running?

If enough of us are having this problem then we can try to narrow it down so that we can get Telelogic to fix this, if it is a bug.

@Lisbeth: Sound promising, at least I'm not alone. I'll try to check the server logs as well, but I don't expect to find something. @Kevin: We use DOORS 8.2 with patch 01 running under WinXP. All clients are of the same version. It's really a fresh installation as new intend to use DOORS for the first time in our lectures. The server is a WinXP machine. My very first suspicion was, my own client installation running under VMWARE (as I'm a regular Mac user) is causing this trouble. But I dropped that, because no other server based applications have this problem. My second idea was about a possible timeout misconfiguration on the server side. But I didn't detect anything in the documentation and we made a default installation. BTW: How do I include linefeeds into my postings? In the editor I have them included, but after posting the text they disappear

I don't think VMWARE is the problem. I've got an installation running on VMWARE right now, DOORS 8.1.

It's great to see a fellow Mac user. I've always wondered what a Requirements Management tool based on the Mac way of doing things would be like, and how easy it would be to use.

As far as line spacing in postings, it's a user preference. Check out your forum preferences. It's a setting there (when I post I have buttons to make items bold, italics, and make links, among other things).

Hi Wolfram,

We experienced a similar problem. The cause was the VPN client had stateful firewall allways on. The problem arised when the respective pc was directly connected to the network, but worked fine when it was connected remotely through a VPN connection.
We changed that setting (deselect stateful firewall allways on) and problems were gone.

I have had users complain of this situation on numerous occasions and nearly every time this occurred they were using a wireless connection. Unless a wireless connection is very solid you run the risk of losing the connection with the DOORS server and potentially causing a corrupt module index file.
