Using DOORS 7.1, Tools -> Filter -> Advanced, is it possible to load in a filter that I have previously saved, or do I have to rebuild the filter again (specifically relevent to re-using a filter saved from another module) ?

I can copy a Rule by pressing "Description". In a pop-up box I get the full description of the rule which, on right-click, I can "File -> Save As" or "Edit -> Copy".

However, also under the right-click are "File -> Load" and "Edit -> Paste", but these are greyed out.
These are the options I would have expected to use to reload a filter into the Filter -> Advanced Options.

Save the filter by saving the view with specific name.

When you save the view if you uncheck all the options on both tabs except the filter option, then you can just reapply the filter over the top of any other view. When saving a view like this it is convenient to name it 'ilter:myfilter', then all your filter views stay together. Same applies for saving sorts.

Thanks for the replies, and I understand what you are saying, but I can't see how either suggestions allow me to save a filter to re-use for a different module.

I have a set of modules with similar if not identical attributes which, if I could get at the filter, would be handy to re-use between the various modules, rather than having to reconstruct it for each module.

If you've got the kitchen scripts look at the view set. There is a 'copy view' function there.
Some copies will fail if the required attribute is not present in the target module, especially applies to filters using columns.

I have posted the kitchen here.

The menu option is Kitchen->Views->Copy views from module...

The source file is addins/kitchen/views/copyview.dxl

Thanks, I've downloaded this little lot (never heard about them before). It appears that I need to unzip/install them somewhere specific. Are there any instructions on how and where to do this ?

Exit DOORS

unzip files to the the following location:

$DOORSHOME\lib\dxl\addins

where $DOORSHOME is your DOORS installations directory (e.g. C:\Program Files\Telelogic\DOORS7.1)

Restart DOORS

Next time you open amodule you will see the kitchen menu.

I know this is boring, but PLEASE do not use any of these scripts without testing them first on data that you can afford to lose.

Splendid, that's done the trick. Thanks.
