Scope

These release notes provide information critical to installing and using the IBM Rational XDE Floating License Enablement Kit.

This applies to the following IBM Rational XDE products.

  • XDE Modeler versions (versions 2003.06.00 and 2003.06.01)

  • XDE Modeler for .NET (versions 2003.06.00 and 2003.06.01)

  • XDE Developer for .NET (versions 2003.06.00 and 2003.06.01)

  • XDE Developer for Java Platform (versions 2003.06.00, 2003.06.01, and 2003.06.10)

  • XDE Developer Plus for .NET (versions 2003.06.00 and 2003.06.01)

  • XDE Developer Plus for Java Platform (versions 2003.06.00 and 2003.06.01)

  • XDE Tester (version 2003.06.00)

  • Installing this Enablement Kit will allow you to manage the above IBM Rational XDE products using floating license keys.  Once the kit has been installed, operation of any of these products will require a floating license key.

    Installation

You can install this Enablement Kit by opening the setup file directly from its download location.  Alternatively, you can install it by first downloading the setup file, ek_setup.exe, to your machine and then opening it from its download location.

After you have installed the Kit, run the Rational License Key Administrator and point the client machine at your Rational License Server if you have not done so already. If you do not have the license server software, you can install the it from the Rational Solutions for Windows CD or download it from https://www6.software.ibm.com/reg/rational/rational-i. Read the IBM Rational License Management guide on your documentation CD to install and start the Rational License Server.

Passport Advantage customers can get XDE license keys by referring to the Proof of Entitlement certificate that IBM sent you with your XDE product purchase. If you are not a Passport Advantage customer, you can get your XDE license keys from your local IBM Rational Sales Representative or from Customer Service.

    Important Install Note

If you are installing multiple IBM Rational products on your system, you should install the Enablement Kit last (i.e. after you install the Rational products). If you have already installed XDE and the Enablement Kit, and then install any additional Rational product on the same system, you will need to reinstall the Enablement Kit and to reset the license mappings. You can reset the license mapping by running the License Key Administrator, select "Settings", then "License Usage Mapper" and finally the "Restore to Defaults" button.

    Uninstallation

The Enablement Kit can be disabled at any time by removing it with the Add/Remove Program applet by following these steps:

  • Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel
  • Select Add/Remove Programs from within the Control Panel
  • From Add/Remove Programs, select the IBM Rational XDE Floating License Enablement Kit program and click Add/Remove
  • From the InstallShield Wizard, click the Remove option and then the click the Next command button; click OK to confirm removal
  • Known Issues

    1. PurifyPlus licensing as part of XDE Developer After the Enablement Kit has been installed, when PurifyPlus fails to obtain a license, it can abnormally terminate or disable its own start menu.  This behavior has only been noticed in configurations where PurifyPlus has been installed as part of XDE Developer Plus' installation and only on an exceptional basis.

    2. Enablement Kit turns license enforcement on for all XDE products The Enablement Kit does not discriminate among installed XDE products in enabling license enforcement.  If you have an XDE product that is per-user licensed and you install the Enablement Kit, that XDE per-user licensed product will become license-enforced.  Furthermore, when that per-user licensed product is run, it will fail in its attempt to obtain a license certificate.  To resolve this situation, you can obtain from your local IBM Rational Sales Representative a floating license key for any of your per-user licensed XDE products.
