Requirements Assets

To estimate the number of files added to source control for an IBM Rational RequisitePro project, use the following formula:

Number of Files = 10 + 3 * (number of documents) + (number of saved views) + (number of Requirement Types)
Estimated Operation Time in Minutes: 10 * number of files) / 60 seconds

Example:

Number of documents = 165
Number of saved views = 37
Number of Requirement Types = 12

The time required to add a RequisitePro project to source control is proportional to the number of requirement types, documents, and saved views in the project. Adding the above example (554 files) to source control initially took:

Additional tips for Rational RequisitePro

If you use IBM Rational ClearCase LT to bring your IBM Rational RequisitePro project to a baseline, follow these tips to improve performance of Checkin All operation:

Test assets

To estimate the number of files added to source control or for a Test project, use the following formula:

Number of GUI script files = (number of GUI scripts) * (2 + OP + (2 * OD))

Where:

OP = Average number of object property verification points + average number of low level scripts + average number of alphanumeric verification points

OD = Average number of object data verification points

Number of files = 200 + number of GUI script files + number of manual scripts

Estimated operation time in minutes:

(10 * number of files) / 60 seconds

Example:

Number of GUI scripts = 200
Estimated 3 object or alphanumeric verification point and/or low-level scripts
Estimated 1 data verification point
Number of manual scripts = 100
Number of GUI script files = 200 * (2 + 3 + (2 * 1)) = 1400

The 10x factor in computing the time is based on an estimated five seconds for two ClearCase operations that must be performed on each file in this implementation. You may be able to improve performance of these operations with a high-powered and correctly configured ClearCase server.

ClearQuest Data Code Pages: Character Set Compatibility with ClearQuest

You may see an error message about data code pages if your IBM Rational project is integrated with ClearQuest. For more information, see the "IBM Rational ClearQuest Documentation Supplement version 2003.06.15" and the "IBM Rational ClearQuest Administrator's Guide version 2003.06.00."

Microsoft Windows 2000 NTFS "Change Journal" defect can cause file system corruption during installation of IBM Rational products

Under certain circumstances, file system corruption can result from installing IBM Rational Version 2003 products on Windows 2000 to an NTFS partition that has enabled the Windows "Change Journal" (log). This corruption is caused by a defect in Windows 2000. Before you install any IBM Rational Version 2003 product on a computer that is running Windows 2000, perform the following steps:

  1. Disable all virus detection software.
  2. Read IBM Support Technote 1135295. Go to http://www-1.ibm.com/support/us/search/index.html and search for "Rational Installer Change Journal."
  3. Read Microsoft Knowledge Base article 820888 at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];820888. This article includes information about an update from Microsoft that fixes the defect. (This applies to version 2003.06.00.)

Windows XP Service Pack 2

Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) Security Measures

Note: To obtain the latest information about Windows XP SP2 support, go to IBM Rational Support at http://www.ibm.com/software/rational/support/ and search for Rational products and Windows XP SP2" (make sure to include the quotation marks in your search). The following information is based on testing done with Windows XP SP2 Release Candidate 2, released June 14, 2004.

Microsoft Windows XP SP2 includes security measures that may affect IBM Rational products as follows:

You may receive warnings when using online or extended help from IBM Rational products affected by this issue:

Online Help and Rational product HTML files on the hard disk of the local machine
When using online help for one of these applications, or accessing Rational product HTML files on the hard disk of the local machine, a warning dialog might open informing you that the page has been restricted from running active content that might be able to access your computer. When you are prompted to do so, choose to allow the page to access your computer.

Note: The warning dialog opens the first time you select HTML active content on the local disk. The dialog notifies you about the new Information bar (in Internet Explorer, beneath the Address box). By default, "Do not show this message again" is selected, and this warning dialog will not be displayed again. Read the content in the Information bar and click anywhere in the bar to select the option that enables active content. Online help should now display.

Rational Unified Process and Extended Help
When using Rational Unified Process or Extended Help from one of these applications, a warning dialog might open informing you that the page has been restricted from running active content that might be able to access your computer. When you are prompted to do so, choose to allow the page to access your computer.

Note: If the correct Java JRE is not installed on your computer, another warning dialog might open, displaying the following message: “JRE required by RUP and Extended Help not found." If you are operating on Windows XP SP2, this dialog might not open. Still, the correct Java JRE must be installed on your computer for Rational Unified Process and Extended Help to display. For more information about this and any other warnings that may be displayed when using online or extended help from IBM Rational products, go to IBM Rational Support at http://www.ibm.com/software/rational/support/ and search for "Rational products and JRE with Windows XP SP2."

For more information about this issue with Windows XP SP2, click the following links:

Firewall issues

Windows XP SP2 enables a firewall that can make it difficult for the IBM Rational product client and/or server to operate. You may receive warnings about network connections when using the following IBM Rational client applications:

You might receive warnings about network connections when using the following IBM Rational server applications installed on Windows XP SP2:

Allowing network traffic when using Windows XP SP2
If you are using one of the IBM Rational applications that are affected by XP SP2, while making outgoing requests, a warning dialog might open to inform you that an outgoing request is being made. If the firewall blocks network traffic, then client/server applications will not operate. To ensure that IBM Rational products operate with Windows XP SP2, you must allow network traffic by doing one of the following:

IBM Rational License Server (FLEXlm-based) and Windows XP Service Pack 2
Communication ports on Windows XP SP2 are closed by default. For a License Server installed on Windows XP SP2 to be able to serve licenses to clients other than itself, it needs two open ports, one each for rational.exe and lmgrd.exe.

To open the firewall for the IBM Rational License Server (FLEXlm-based) on Windows XP SP2 machines, go to the Rational/common directory and double-click WinXPSP2.reg. This file will import the changes to the registry and open up the firewall for rational.exe and lmgrd.exe to use any ports.

Note: If you did not use the default path (C:\Program Files\Rational\Common\) to install the Rational License Server, you must edit the WinXPSP2.reg file by replacing the C:\Program Files\Rational\Common in two locations in each line with the actual installation path. Optionally, you can open the firewall for the IBM Rational License Server (FLEXlm-based) manually by following these instructions:

  1. Click Control Panel > Internet Connection Firewall > Exceptions Tab.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Select a program radio button.
  4. Browse to rational.exe (typically located at C:\Program Files\Rational\Common).
  5. Add a Description, click OK, and click OK again until you return to the Internet Connection Firewall window.
  6. Repeat the previous steps to add lmgrd.exe (C:\Program Files\rational\common\) to the Exceptions tab.
    Note
: Make sure that the two items added in Steps 5 and 6 are selected in the Programs and Services box in the Internet Connection firewall window.
  7. Click OK. You might need to restart your computer.

You must register all ClearCase server processes (those from the albd_server and those listed in %CLEARCASEHOME%\config\services\albd.conf) with the firewall by using the Windows Firewall Control panel or netsh firewall add allowedprogram command. See the IBM Rational ClearCase release notes for sample batch scripts to register and unregister processes in all scopes and profiles.

IBM Rational TestManager, Robot, and Test Agent and Windows XP Service Pack 2
The following programs attempt to communicate through the firewall and may cause a firewall pop-up window requesting whether their communication should be allowed through. These programs should be unblocked as a response to this dialog and from then on will be allowed through the Microsoft firewall. The known programs include: rtprvu.exe, rtpsvc.exe, rtprvd.exe, rtasrv.exe, rtpsrv.exe, rtmanager.exe, rtrobo.exe, and rtstsee.exe.

SQL Anywhere and Windows XP Service Pack 2
For more information about SQL Anywhere Studio and Windows XP Service Pack 2, go to http://www.ianywhere.com/developer/technotes/sas_xp_sp2.html.

On page 62 of the "Rational Suite Tutorial" version 2003.06.00, for the exercise "Start Rose," you do not need to complete Step 3. In version 2003 of Rational Rose, CURDIR=& is already defined. Continue with Step 4.
Install RATLC00008162/ No APAR Users should not install their software to a network location under Windows 9.x. Sometimes the installation needs to restart in order to install files that have been locked by the OS during installation. Restarting the installation frees these files so that they can be replaced before they become locked again. Installing to a network location causes problems because the network connections are not ready when this replacement happens. As a result, the OS cannot replace the files and the old files remain. This will cause problems with the installed image.

Microsoft Windows 2000 NTFS "Change Journal" defect can cause file system corruption during installation of IBM Rational products.

Under certain circumstances, file system corruption can result from installing IBM Rational Version 2003 products on Windows 2000 to an NTFS partion that has enabled the Windows "Change Journal" (log). This corruption is caused by a defect in Windows 2000. Before you install any Rational Version 2003 product on a computer that is running Windows 2000:

You must install Rational Suite from an account that has administrator privileges. If you attempt to install from an account that does not have administrator privileges, you may be prompted with an operating system dialog that suggests you can install regardless of this by entering the userid and password of another account that does have administrator privileges.
Entering alternate account information in this manner does not seem to be effective. If you attempt to install, you may still get fatal errors that are caused by insufficient privileges.
IBM recommends that you always log in to an account that has administrator privileges.

Users who tried to perform silent installs on machines that do not have administrator rights will not receive indication about why the product failed to install. This is due to the InstallShield components that do  not install unless they have the correct rights. These components do not log any information. For more information, read the IBM Rational Installation Guides for Desktop and Server Products.
Licensing RATLC00001792/ No APAR When users stop the license server with services dialog on Windows 2000, this results in Dr. Watson error.

Product RATLC ID/APAR Description
Install RATLC00243823/ No APAR Sometimes, an IBM Rational product is not updated when a service release is installed. For more information, see the "IBM Rational Suite Upgrade Guide." For the latest information on upgrading ClearQuest, see the IBM Rational ClearQuest Documentation Supplement, version 2003.06.14.
Install RATLC00702104/ No APAR After installing one or more IBM Rational products, stray "msiexec" processes linger in memory. Users must restart their systems before applying the service release, even if product installation does not require this.
Install RATLC00698818/ No APAR Corrects a defect that causes the About box to not display the version of the product if multiple products are installed and the version of one of them does not match the others. For example, if  different versions of IBM Rational products exist on a user's system and the user selects Help > About ... , UNKNOWN is displayed in the version field instead of a version number. The service release fixes this issue so that a version number is displayed, even if the user does not have the same version of different IBM Rational products on their machine.
Install RATLC00240650/ No APAR An error message appears when doing Rose Data Modeler Site Preparation.

Workaround: If you are creating an enterprise deployment (release area) and the "Launch installation using these settings" checkbox is selected, some Windows 2000 users may see the product installation start before the release area has been created, because the product installation task didn't wait for the release area task to finish.

If this happens, cancel the installation, then run these two tasks separately:

  1. Run the installer to do an enterprise deployment and create a release area. Clear the "launch" checkbox. Let the process run to completion.
  2. Once the release area is created successfully, do a SitePrep install from that release area.
Install RATLC00449702/ No APAR Attempting to run a newly created SQL Anywhere network service after installation may give the following error:
"A database server with that name has already started." The service then fails to start. If this issue is encountered, do the following:
  1. In Sybase Central, right-click the service name and choose Properties.
  2. In the Configuration tab, change the specified server name using the "-n" parameter to a different name.
  3. Click Apply and OK to close the dialog.
  4. Right-click the service name and select Start to start the service.
Install RATLC00695603/ No APAR There are two licensing pages displayed in SitePrep:

ProjectConsole Installation RATLC00450993/ No APAR When installing Rational Suite to a network release area, the ProjectConsole Web server components should not be selected. If they are, every user who installs from that release area will get the ProjectConsole Web server components (and Rational Web Platform) software loaded and running on their computers.

In addition, when applying a service release to a 2003.06.00 Rational Suite release, you may receive one or more "Source File Not Found" warnings about files in the ...\Classics\Projects\... folder. These warnings can safely be ignored, as they are only used by the ProjectConsole Web server components when accessing the ProjectConsole sample site.

For more information, read the IBM Rational Installation Guides for Server and Desktop Products.

RequisitePro RATLC00703134/ No APAR In certain configurations, such as Windows NT 4.0 SP6A with Security Patches, the following error may occur when associating a RequisitePro project using the IBM Rational Administrator:

Error Number: 339
Error Description: Component mscomctl.ocx or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file missing or invalid

To correct this, you should manually register the file using the command prompt as follows:

Install RATLC00724843 IBM Rational has provided customers with two types of media, CDs and Downloads. You must upgrade your systems using the same type of media as the original install. This affects all desktop installs (and installs from release areas).

For more information, see the IBM Rational Suite Upgrade Guide.

Install RATLC00727901/ No APAR Installing IBM Rational products on Windows XP SP1 systems with MSI 3.0 Release Candidate (RC) 1 may result in a 1607 error. MSI 3.0 is only supported on RC 2 or greater.
Install RATLC00727906/ No APAR On WinNT40SrvEnterprise_Japanese_SP6a_SRP and WinNT40Srv_English_SP6a_SRP, Rational Web Platform services are not being started after initial reboot. Users may need to either start the services manually or restart the machine.
Licensing RATLC00716852/ No APAR In order to open the firewall for the IBM Rational License Server on WinXP SP2 machines, a registry file (WinXPSP2.reg) has been provided in the <Install Path>\Rational\common directory. Import the changes to the user's registry by double-clicking this file. This action will open the firewall for rational.exe and lmgrd.exe to use any ports.

You need to edit the WinXPSP2.reg file if you did not install the IBM Rational License Server to the default path of C:\Program Files\Rational\common\. This file can be edited with any typical editor (such as Notepad). To do this, replace the C:\Program Files\Rational\common in two locations in each line with the actual install path.

Licensing RATLC00455276/ No APAR The "IBM Rational License Management Guide" should state that IBM Rational supports redundant server environments of heterogeneous operating systems:
  • Different Windows operating systems
  • Different UNIX operating systems
  • A mix of Windows and UNIX operating systems
Licensing RATLC00722629/ No APAR The IBM "Rational Software License Management Guide" refers to "License Key Certificate." This is no longer used for license fulfillment.

For more information on licensing, see the IBM Rational Suite release notes "Licensing" section.

Licensing RATLC00458025/ No APAR Enhancements to floating license disconnected use

If your product uses floating license keys, IBM Rational products can run under certain conditions if you do not have network connectivity to your license server. The IBM Rational product will go into "disconnected use mode" if the product tries to acquire a floating license key and cannot find the license server within 3 days of the last time the user ran the product on that host. This feature is ideal for mobile users who use floating licenses in the office and then wish to use the product at home or away from the office shortly thereafter.

As of version 2003.06.13, if you have purchased a component of a Rational Suite product, you only have to launch one Suite component using a Suite License to be able to use all Rational Suite components in a disconnected manner.

Viewing disconnected use status:
While you are disconnected from the network, the Rational License Key Administrator (LKAD) version 2003.06.13 displays which products or components can be launched in disconnected use mode. If you activated disconnected use for a product and it is not displayed in the LKAD, click View > Show > Floating Licenses.

Changing the time-out to delay disconnected use:
The Rational License Key Administrator version 2003.06.13 allows you to change the time-out period the IBM Rational product will wait for a floating key before it goes into disconnected use mode. The default setting is 5 seconds. If you have a slow network, your software automatically goes into disconnected use mode if it does not receive a response from the license server within 5 seconds. You then see a dialog box that states you are in disconnected use mode after the 5 seconds.

To change the time-out:

  1. Click Settings > Disconnect Timeout
  2. Enter a value from 5-25 in the Disconnect Timeout dialog box.
  3. Click OK.
Licensing RATLC00716852 License Server cannot communicate with client on WinXP SP2 by default. For more information, read the section called "Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) Security Measures" in the IBM Rational Suite release notes.

  2. Click Full Product Versions under Download.
  3. Click Rational License Server.
  4. Select the appropriate UNIX platform.

After you have downloaded the licensing executable files, follow the instructions in Chapter 9 "Configuring a UNIX license server" in the "Rational Software License Management Guide". When you are ready to install the server software, go to Step 2 in the "Installing the server software and floating license keys" section.

Licensing RATLC00457793/ No APAR The version 2003.06.13 Rational License Server is based on FLEXlm version 9.2. This upgrade resolves several customer reported defects at the FLEXlm level. You can use this version of the Rational License Server to service Rational products at earlier release levels.

If you are upgrading the UNIX version of the Rational license server, log into the Rational Download and Licensing Center at https://www6.software.ibm.com/reg/rational/rational-i. For installation instructions, see "New download location for Rational UNIX license server"

When you upgrade the license server, you must restart it. To restart the license server:

  1. In the license_setup script, select option 2 in the License Check menu.
  2. To ensure that the license server automatically restarts when it reboots, the license_setup script directs you to become root and copy the server start-up script to the directory under /etc. The correct location for placing the start-up files are based on the operating system that you are using. The file is renamed as it is copied. The name has to begin with a capital S and it is recommended that you use 98 to make sure it starts toward the end of the other services that come up. The start file is called start_lmgrd_on_server, where server is the name of the license server. A copy of the file is placed in the rational-dir/config directory.

The following sections provide the start-up script commands for the UNIX operating systems that IBM Rational supports:

AIX
Edit the /etc/inittab file and add this line:
lmgr:234:once:/bin/sh rational-dir/config/start_lmgrd_on_server
Add an entry with the full-path name to the start-up script. This start-up script could be copied to the local file system on the license server machine.

HP-UX
cp start_lmgrd_on_server /sbin/init.d/S98Rational
ln -s /sbin/rc2.d/S98Rational /sbin/rc2.d/S98Rational

IRIX
cp start_lmgrd_on_server /etc/init.d/S98Rational
ln -s /etc/rc2.d/S98Rational /etc/rc2.d/S98Rational

Linux
cp start_lmgrd_on_server /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S98Rational
cp start_lmgrd_on_server /etc/rc.d/rc4.d/S98Rational
cp start_lmgrd_on_server /etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S98Rational

Licensing RATLC00248248/ No APAR Incorrect license type mentioned in License Key Administrator Help XDE does not use per user license keys. Ignore this information in the License Key Adminstrator Help. See the XDE License Management and Enforcement section in the IBM Rational Suite release notes for more information about XDE licensing.
ClearQuest RATLC00723156/ No APAR Japanese users will notice English text mixed in with Japanese when using Crystal Reports. This is a known issue.
ClearQuest RATLC00727693/ No APAR Table size must be set to 32K or larger in DB2 v7x and 8.1 for specific sample schema repositories To use DevelopmentStudio, Enterprise, or TestStudio sample databases on LINUX, AIX and WINDOWS platforms, you must set the table size to 32K or larger in the DB2 database. If the table size is not set to 32K or larger, you cannot create sample schema repositories in the ClearQuest Maintenance Tool. For the Defect Tracking, AnalystStudio and UCM sample schemas, you can use the default table size and buffer pools.
ClearQuest RATLC00729267/ No APAR Crystal Enterprise Embedded Edition is included with Rational ClearQuest and Rational Suite. CEEE can be installed from a separate CD included with IBM Rational ClearQuest and Suite. CEEE can also be downloaded from either the IBM Rational Download Center or Passport Advantage Web site. CEEE is a selectable downloadable option under version 2003.06.13. There may be more information available in the IBM Rational ClearQuest release notes.
Rational Web Platform RATLC00726460/ No APAR Certain Rational Web Platform files differ in a version 2003.06.13 installation, depending upon whether the installation was a result of an upgrade from an earlier version, or a new installation.

In the case of a new IBM Rational Suite Enterprise installation with Web Server feature selected, the common/rwp/conf/include/ccweb.conf file will have unsubstituted _CC_HOME_ placeholders. Users must manually replace all occurrences of _CC_HOME_ with the actual physical path of ClearCase installation, for example: C:/Program Files/Rational/ClearCase.

TestManager Install RATLC00459258/ No APAR The Crystal runtimes will not be installed on Win9x operating systems. Users need to install the product on Win NT and above to run reports.
Site Preparation Tool RATLC00721041/ No APAR Previously, the Done button in the Site Preparation Tool window was disabled until you entered all the information required on the page. Now, the Done button is always enabled. If you click the Done button and some information has not been entered, an error message is displayed informing you that some information is still required.
Documentation RATLC00368352/ No APAR The instructions for using Full-Text Search on the Rational Solutions for Windows Online Documentation CD may not be accurate for versions of Adobe Acrobat later than 5.0. To set up full-text search, users may need to follow the instructions below for step 1, instead of those listed in the using_search.pdf.
  1. Select Edit > Search, then click Use Advanced Search Options
  2. LookIn:SelectIndex..., then click Add
  3. Browse to the Documentation CD-ROM and select index.pdx
  4. Check Documentation CD and click OK.
Documentation RATLC00728111/ No APAR The Desktop and Server requirements and recommendations in some of the IBM Rational Suite documentation may not be correct for IBM Rational ProjectConsole. For IBM Rational ProjectConsole Desktop and Server requirements and recommendations, see the IBM Rational Project Console release notes.

Note: These may also apply to other versions of IBM Rational products.

Product RATLC ID/APAR Description
Install RATLC00730888/ No APAR Version 2003.06.14 service release does not support mixed media installation on a system. If different types of media are used to install different IBM Rational products on a system, the version 2003.06.14 service release will fail.

For example, if Product A was installed from an IBM Rational product installation CD-Rom and Product B was installed from the IBM Rational Download and Licensing Center, a media block message will appear when you attempt to apply this service release. And you will not be able to apply this service release.

Workaround:
Uninstall the IBM Rational products of one media type and reinstall them using the same type of media with which the remaining products on the system were installed.

Install RATLC00730675/ No APAR Applying a patch to a Release Area is accomplished by executing the following command line at a command prompt:

msiexec /p <full-path-to-.msp-file> /a <full-path-to-product-.msi-file>

When applying a patch to a Release Area on a Japanese system, the following parameter must be added to display the user interface in Japanese:

msiexec /p <full-path-to-.msp-file> /a <full-path-to-product-.msi-file> TRANSFORMS=:XForm1041

The "TRANSFORMS=:XForm1041" portion of the command line must be specified exactly as it appears above.

Licensing/FLEXlm RATLC00732323/No APAR After importing floating, temporary license keys into the version 2003.06.13 license server on Microsoft Windows, the License Key Administrator displays one of the following errors and the license server is unable to serve license keys:
"No license features were found on server <server_hostname>. FLEXlm error: -15; cannot connect to license server"

"Cannot read data from license server"

"FLEXlm error: -16; tcp_s is bad"

This issue occurs only when the user is importing floating, temporary keys on a license server which is operating on port 27000, and is not serving any permanent license keys.

For a workaround and more information, see IBM Support Technote 1182047. Go to www-1.ibm.com/support/us/search/index.html and search for 1182047.

Install RATLC00732223/ No APAR You can apply IBM Rational service release version 2003.06.14 to an existing release area only if version 2003.06.13 is already installed in that release area.

Administrators: Apply this service release to a version 2003.06.13 release area by following the instructions in "Applying this service release to a release area."

Install RATLC00722240/ No APAR, RATLC00732713/ No APAR The Site Preparation Tool is used to configure ClearQuest, either during a custom desktop install, or standalone to create a site default configuration. One configuration page prompts the user for a "Default Connection Profile". The format of this profile file was changed in version 2003.06.13, and profiles from earlier versions of ClearQuest will not work correctly with version 2003.06.13 or later.

In version 2003.06.14, the verification to make sure the file format is correct and current is performed later in the installation, by ClearQuest.

Install RATLC00462266/ APAR IC43112 After installing IBM Rational products, when a user selects an installed IBM Rational product from Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs, and then selects "Click here for support information," the available links may not work.

The IBM Rational Software Support Home page can be found at http://www.ibm.com/software/rational/support/.

The IBM Rational Software Support Home page (for Japan) can be found at http://www.ibm.com/jp/software/rational/support/.

Install RATLC00733554/ No APAR,

RATLC00733563/ No APAR

Silent upgrades are only supported by first applying the upgrade patch (non-silently) to your release area. You may then silently upgrade your desktops from the patched release area using the command "Setup.exe /g".

Additionally, ensure that you upgrade your release area using the correct media-type upgrade version as the original IBM Rational product installation (media-types include CD-ROM or Web download).

For more information, see the Installation Issues.

Install RATLC00732615/ No APAR

RATLC00140765/ No APAR

RATLC00732722/ No APAR

You can apply IBM Rational service release version 2003.06.14 to a desktop system only if version 2003.06.13 is already installed on that system.

Apply this service release to a desktop system with version 2003.06.13 by following the instructions in "Applying this service release to a desktop system."

Install RATLC00461775/ No APAR IBM Rational product service releases must be applied using the same media-type and installation source as the original IBM Rational product installation.

The "media-type" refers to a CD-ROM or Download media.
The "installation source" refers to an installation directly from the CD-ROM, or from a release area.

If the original installation was done from a CD-ROM or release area created from a CD-ROM, use the CD-ROM media for your upgrade.

If you installed your IBM Rational product from a release area, apply the service release to the release area first, then upgrade your desktop from the upgraded release area.

Install RATLC00732930/ No APAR Attempting to apply a patch "silently" (using the /qn option) to a desktop that was originally installed from CD-ROM is an unsupported method because the patch installation prompts for the version 2003.06.13 Disk 1 (and possibly Disk 2). However, because the program is running "silently," it cannot display the prompt and the installation terminates. Applying a patch to a desktop from a patched release area is the appropriate use of silent install in an "enterprise" environment. See the instructions in "Applying this service release to a desktop system."
Install RATLC00735046/ No APAR If Microsoft Project and a version of ClearQuest earlier than version 2003.06.14 are installed on your computer, and you install ClearQuest version 2003.06.14, there is a chance that the DLL for the Project Tracker integration did not register. If you do not see the ClearQuest menu option under Tools after you start Microsoft Project, you need to register the DLL manually by performing these steps:
  1. Click Start > Run.
  2. At the Run prompt, register the Project Tracker DLL by entering regsvr32 CQMSPInt.dll (this DLL is located in the directory to which ClearQuest is installed).

About this IBM Rational Service Release

This IBM Rational service release includes important product fixes, and may include new features. It is developed for a specific product version and does not affect the licensing of your products. Because there is no effect on licensing, the service release does not allow you to configure licensing while you apply it to the software. You will, however, be asked to accept the service release license agreement before installation.

With this service release, you can update selected IBM Rational components on your system. You do not have to find and select product-specific service releases. Because a service release is cumulative, you can apply the latest service release without applying earlier service releases. After you apply a service release, you may see new shortcuts or files. The service release updates the IBM Rational product's version number; for example, from 2003.06.00 to 2003.06.15. You can see the change in the "About <Rational Product> " dialog box accessible from the product's Help menu, or in the "Rational Installed Product Information" dialog box, which can be accessed from the Start menu.

Getting started

Keep the following current version 2003 documents easily accessible during this installation:

Click here for information on obtaining IBM Rational product documentation.

Using the IBM Rational software setup program

Access to the executable of this service release is available from http://www.ibm.com/software/rational/support/upgrades/.  Download the file by saving it to your hard disk instead of opening it directly from the Web site.

The IBM Rational Download and Licensing Center (http://www.rational.com/support/downloadcenter/index.jsp) has two versions of the patch. You must install the version that corresponds with how you installed version 2003.06.13. For example, if you installed version 2003.06.13 using a CD-ROM, use the patch designated for CD-ROM media. If you installed version 2003.06.13 by download, use the patch designated for downloads. For more information about upgrade configurations, read about upgrades and service release installations.

Upgrades and service release installations

For information on upgrading ClearQuest, see the IBM Rational ClearQuest Documentation Supplement, version 2003.06.15.
For installation information, see the installation guides for IBM Rational software desktop and server products.

Installation issues

ClearQuest installation

If you have applied any hot fixes to ClearQuest version 2003.06.14, IBM Rational recommends that you uninstall that version before installing version 2003.06.15. For updates to any ClearQuest install issues, see the IBM Rationl Support home page for ClearQuest.

XDE license management and enforcement

If you previously installed the XDE Floating License Enablement Kit, ignore this section. License enablement of your XDE products is unaffected by this service release.

This service release enables you to manage version 2003 IBM Rational XDE product use of floating license keys.

To enable XDE license enforcement:

  1. Install the Service Release.
  2. Run the command <rational_directory>\common\SetXDEFloating.exe. After running SetXDEFloating.exe, users will need a license key to use XDE.

After you configure XDE to use license keys:

  1. Get your license keys from AccountLink. Go to http://www.ibm.com/software/rational/support/licensing. Register with the IBM Web Management and click Request and Manage License Keys. Passport Advantage customers can obtain XDE license keys by referring to the "Important Licensing and Installation Information" document in your shipment or the "Proof of Entitlement" certificate. If you are not a Passport Advantage customer, you can obtain your XDE license keys from your local IBM Rational sales representative or from Customer Service.
  2. Install the IBM Rational License Server. If you do not have the license server software, you can either install it from the "IBM Rational Solutions for Windows CD-ROM" or download it from https://www6.software.ibm.com/reg/rational/rational-i. Refer to the "IBM Rational Software License Management Guide" on the "IBM Rational Solutions for Windows Online Documentation CD-ROM" for instructions on installing and operating the IBM Rational License Server.
  3. Launch the IBM Rational License Key Administrator and point the client machine at your IBM Rational License Server.

When license enforcement has been activated, XDE behaves as follows:

A valid XDE license key is required throughout the duration of any XDE session, which is initiated when a model is opened and terminated when all models are closed. When the session begins, an attempt is made to check out a license key from the license server. If a license is available, XDE checks out the key for the duration of your session. If no XDE license keys are available on the server, a warning message is displayed informing you that you do not have a valid key.  XDE continues to operate, and you continue to see this message while using XDE until a valid license key is acquired.
