About This Book

This book provides necessary programming information for you to use the IBM Host Access Beans for Java. In this book, Windows refers to Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Me. Throughout this book, workstation refers to all computers running operating systems that can run supported browsers or have a supported Java Virtual Machine (JVM).

The examples in this book were written using the Sun Java Development Kit (JDK) and the Sun Bean Development Kit (BDK) on a Windows operating system. In other Java or JavaBeans development environments, the tools and steps necessary to build and execute the examples may vary. See your Java or JavaBeans tool documentation for details.

Throughout this book, Host Access Beans refer to implementations provided by IBM WebSphere Host On-Demand, Version 8.0.

Please note that a similar API is provided with the IBM Personal Communications for Windows, Version 5.7 program product. However, the API provided with IBM Personal Communications, Version 5.7 is equivalent to the API provided with Host On-Demand, Version 4.0. That is, IBM Personal Communications has an older version of the API. Please refer to the version of this book supplied with your version of Personal Communications to determine the specific functions supported
