Installing Rational Change for ClearCase Interface 2.1.0.1

Step 1: Downloading the interface

1.       Download the interface.

o        For Windows, ratlChange_ClearCase_2-1-0-1_windows.zip

o        For Linux, ratlChange_ClearCase_2-1-0-1_linux.tar.gz

o        For Solaris, ratlChange_ClearCase_2-1-0-1_solaris.tar.gz

If you have Rational Change installed, you can download the Interface from Rational Change server http://host:port/context/trapeze/integrations.

If you have downloaded Rational Change you can also unzip the file and the Interface will be available under <unzipdir>\change\integrations.

2.       Extract to a temporary folder.

Step 2: Installing the interface type definitions (server side)

On the Rational Synergy server, install the ClearCase Placeholder Object type definition.

Locate the file <distribution>\install\rational_synergy\cc_plcholder_obj.xml, which contains type definitions.  Type Definitions are installed on a per-database basis, and this type definition needs to be installed on all databases with which you intend to use the interface.

Using Synergy 7.1

1.       From the Rational Synergy CLI, start a Synergy classic client session where the current user role is type_developer or ccm_admin.

2.       Copy cc_plcholder_obj.xml to C:\synergy_typedefs, or to some other location.

3.       Use the following command to install the Type Def, replacing C:\synergy_typedefs with the appropriate location. If the command fails to import the typedef, ensure that your current user has the permissions needed to access cc_plcholder_obj.xml.

o        ccm typedef -import cc_plcholder_obj -dir C:\synergy_typedefs –force

4.       Verify the Type Definition Installation with the following command:

o        ccm query -n cc_plcholder_obj

o        ccm attr -l @

Using Synergy 7.2 and above

1.       From the Rational Synergy UI launch Synergy CLI.

2.       Set the role to type_developer or ccm_admin

a.       ccm set role ccm_admin

3.       Copy cc_plcholder_obj.xml to C:\synergy_typedefs, or to some other location.

4.       Use the following command to install the Type Def, replacing C:\synergy_typedefs with the appropriate location. If the command fails to import the typedef, ensure that your current user has the permissions needed to access cc_plcholder_obj.xml.

a.    ccm typedef -import “C:\synergy_typedefs\ cc_plcholder_obj.xml

5.       Verify the Type Definition Installation with the following command:

a.    ccm query -n cc_plcholder_obj

b.    ccm attr @

Step 3: Installing the interface CR process (server side)

Install the Rational Change "clearcase_integration_component" package.

1.       Locate the directory <distribution>\install\rational_change\clearcase_integration_component

2.       Copy the directory clearcase_integration_component to <Rational Change>\jetty\webapps\change\WEB-INF\packages

3.       Log on to Rational Change as admin in the package installer, install "clearcase_integration_component"

Step 4: Editing the Rational Change Request Process (server side)

1.       Edit the Rational Change Request Process for assigned2resolved transition.

2.       In the Triggers section click on Pre Transition button.

3.       Click on Available Triggers button in the Pre Transition Triggers page.

4.       In the Pre Transition Triggers page, select Current Installation as the Package Template and completeAssocTasks.pl as the Trigger.

5.       Click on Add button. Command to call trigger will be added to the list of pre condition scripts.

6.       Prefix the trigger call command with verify:  and now it should look like verify: ratlperl completeAssocTasks.pl associated_task.

7.       Move the command to the top of the list.

8.       Update changes.

9.       Create a new Change Request Package and install it.

Step 5: Running the installer (client side)

1.       Launch the installer using the executable for your platform (install.exe or install.bin).
The wizard guides you through the rest of the installation process.

2.       After the installation is finished, restart the machine.

3.       Ensure that that the environment variable RCCC_INTEGRATION_PATH has been set to the installation path.

4.       Launch the Interface GUI using the shortcut or link the installer created.

5.       Launch the online help and read it completely before using the Interface.

Known problems

  • A change set in the working state must be checked-in before moving it from one activity to another.
  • The Rational Change Login dialog offered by the interface does not check if an invalid role was entered. If you enter an invalid role the interface will not work correctly.
  • On Solaris you may need to add /usr/sfw/lib/mozilla in your path in order to launch the help of the interface.
  • The installer fails to validate if the interface has already been installed. To re-install the interface, you must uninstall it first.
  • Clicking Cancel on the Check out or Check in progress dialog in ClearCase may force the interface’s Select Change Request dialog to hide in the background thus making the user wait indefinitely for the ClearCase progress dialog to terminate. You need to make sure that you activate the Select Change Request dialog and respond to it in order terminate the ClearCase progress dialog.
