Installing or upgrading Data Studio web console silently by using a response file

A silent installation or upgrade is an installation that runs without displaying an interface or prompting you for input. Silent installations or upgrades simplify the process of installing or upgrading the product on multiple computers.

Before you begin

About this task

To install Data Studio web console silently, use a response file that contains the properties and values that are used as input for the installation to do one or more silent installations of the product. The sample response file that is provided with the product is in the responseFile directory of the product installation image.
  • Linux and UNIX: dswc_unix.rsp
  • Windows: dswc_win.rsp
Tip: For an upgrade, ensure that you type the installation directory of the existing product.

If you install the product as a Windows administrator, Data Studio web console is added as a Windows service. If you run the installer as a non-administrative user, an administrative user can later install the Data Studio web console service manually by running the installservice.bat script from the DSWC_installation_dir/bin directory.

Procedure

To install Data Studio web console silently by using a response file:

  1. If you are upgrading an earlier version of IBM Data Studio Health Monitor, do the following tasks to prepare to upgrade:
    1. Stop the earlier version of Data Studio Health Monitor, if running:
      • Linux and UNIX: From the DSHM_installation_dir/bin directory, run the command stop.sh
      • Windows: From the Start menu, click All Programs > IBM Data Studio > Stop Data Studio Health Monitor.
    2. Uninstall any manually installed Windows service. If you manually configured Data Studio Health Monitor to run as a Windows service, you must manually uninstall the service by running removeservice.bat from the DSHM_installation_dir/bin directory.
  2. Run the installation. From the installation image directory for the Data Studio web console, run the following command:
    On AIX®:
    ./DSWC.v3.1.1.install-on-aix-ppc64.bin -i silent -f path_to_response_file
On Linux on System x® 64-bit:
    ./DSWC.v3.1.1.install-on-linux-x86_64.bin -i silent -f path_to_response_file
On Linux on System z® 64-bit:
    ./DSWC.v3.1.1.install-on-linux-s390x.bin -i silent -f path_to_response_file
    On Windows 32-bit:
    DSWC.v3.1.1.install-on-windows-i386.exe -i silent -f path_to_response_file
    On Windows 64-bit:
    DSWC.v3.1.1.install-on-windows-x86_64.exe -i silent -f path_to_response_file
    On Solaris SPARC:
    ./DSWC.v3.1.1.install-on-solaris-Sparc.bin -i silent -f path_to_response_file
    On Solaris x86-64:
    ./DSWC.v3.1.1.install-on-solaris-x86_64.bin -i silent -f path_to_response_file
Data Studio web console is installed.
  3. Optional: To see the installation details, you can check the installation log files:
    • On Linux and UNIX:
      • DSWC_installation_dir/logs/DSWCinstall_summary_timestamp.log
      • DSWC_installation_dir/logs/DSWCinstall_details_timestamp.log
    • On Windows:
      • DSWC_installation_dir\logs\DSWCinstall_summary_timestamp.log
      • DSWC_installation_dir\logs\DSWCinstall_details_timestamp.log
Where timestamp is the date and time when you ran the installation program and DSWC_installation_dir is the path to the installation directory that you selected.

What to do next
