Modifying the product across the enterprise

Use the IM_response_modify.bat and IM_run_silent_modify.bat scripts to add or remove installable features or languages for IBM® Data Studio across your enterprise.

Before you begin

TheDS_SILENT_FILES directory must exist.

Procedure

To modify the product features or languages across your enterprise:

  1. Optional: Edit the IM_response_modify.bat and IM_run_silent_modify.bat scripts to change the default parameters for:
    • The location and file names for the generated log and response files
    • The location to store data for the simulated modification
    • The location of IBM Installation Manager, Version 1.5.1, if it is not installed into the default installation directory. On Windows, the default installation directory is C:\Program Files\IBM\Installation Manager
    • The location of the installation files for the product. For example, if the installation files are on a DVD that is in a drive that is mapped to D:, the location is D:\.
Important: Edit these parameters only if you edited them for the installation batch files. The parameter values must match the values in the installation batch files.
  2. Generate the silent modification response file.
    1. Open a command prompt, change to the Installation Manager installation directory, and run the IM_response_modify.bat script. For example, on Windows, the default Installation Manager installation directory is Program Files\IBM\Installation Manager\eclipse. Installation Manager starts.
    2. On the Installation Manager main page, look in the window title to verify that recording is taking place. Then, click Modify.
    3. Complete the pages of the wizard to change packages or languages as needed. Then click Modify and Finish.
    4. Close the Installation Manager window to save the response file.
The directory is changed to the location of Installation Manager. The simulated modification data, response_modify.xml, is saved in the DS_SILENT_DATA_SAVE directory.
  3. On the base computer, run the silent installation with the silent response file.
    1. Open a command prompt, change the directory to the Installation Manager installation directory, and run the IM_run_silent_modify.bat script.
    2. Check the log files for errors. The modification log file, log_modify.xml, is in the DS_SILENT_FILES directory.
  4. Run the silent modification on all the other computers in your enterprise on which you want to modify product settings.
    1. Copy the following folder and files to the target computers:
      • DS_SILENT_DATA_SAVE folder
      • DS_SILENT_FILES/response_modify.xml file
      • IM_run_silent_modify.bat script
    2. Open a command prompt.
    3. Change the directory to the Installation Manager installation directory.
    4. Run the IM_run_silent_modify.bat script.
