Installing Data Studio and the license activation kit for IBM InfoSphere Optim Query Workload Tuner through a wizard

If you plan to activate licenses for IBM® InfoSphere® Optim™ Query Workload Tuner, Version 3.1.1 on DB2® databases or subsystems, you must install both the client and the license activation kit together on a workstation. You can install them by using the IBM Installation Manager wizard, which you open from the product launchpad.

Before you begin

Ensure that your workstation meets the system requirements.

About this task

Installing IBM InfoSphere Optim Query Workload Tuner, Version 3.1.1 installs two components on your workstation:

IBM Data Studio full client, Version 3.1.1
IBM Data Studio provides an integrated development environment for robust database application development and database management for database servers. You use this client for your tuning tasks. You can do a limited set of no-charge tuning tasks, or you can access the full set of tuning tasks for any databases that have on which a license for IBM InfoSphere Optim Query Workload Tuner, Version 3.1.1 is active.
A license activation kit for InfoSphere Optim Query Workload Tuner, Version 3.1.1
This kit allows you to activate the full set of features for tuning query workloads and single SQL statements. When you use the IBM Data Studio full client to start tuning, the client will install and activate a license on the connected DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows database or DB2 for z/OS® subsystem. After the license is activated on that database or subsystem, the full set of tuning features is available to anyone else who connects to that database or subsystem through the Data Studio full client or administration client, Version 3.1.1.
Your product DVD or the compressed file that you downloaded from IBM Passport Advantage® or IBM Shopz contains the kit that corresponds to the product that you purchased:
  • InfoSphere Optim Query Workload Tuner for DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows License Activation Kit
  • InfoSphere Optim Query Workload Tuner for DB2 for z/OS License Activation Kit

Procedure

To install both components of IBM InfoSphere Optim Query Workload Tuner, Version 3.1.1 on your workstation:

  1. If IBM Installation Manager is already installed on the workstation, ensure that it checks automatically for updates to itself.
    1. Launch IBM Installation Manager.
    2. Select File > Preferences.
    3. In the Preferences window, select Updates.
    4. On the Updates page, select the option Search for Installation Manager updates. Then, click OK.
    5. Close IBM Installation Manager.
If IBM Installation Manager is not already installed on the workstation, it is installed automatically in the next step.
  2. On the product DVD or in the extracted content of the compressed file that you downloaded from IBM Passport Advantage, double-click the appropriate file for your operating system:
    • On Windows operating systems:
      • On 32-bit operating systems: setup.exe
Note: On Windows Vista or Windows 7 systems, you must run this file as an administrator if you plan to perform an administrative installation.
    • On Linux operating systems: setup
If Installation Manager 1.5.1 is not already installed on the workstation, it is automatically installed at this point.
  3. In the launchpad, select Install Product and select the type of installation to perform.
  4. On the Select Packages page of the wizard, select both packages.
  5. On the Install Packages page, specify an existing package group or a new package group depending on whether you are upgrading an existing product:
    Upgrading an existing client
If you have the InfoSphere Optim Query Tuner client, Version 3.1 or IBM Data Studio full client, Version 3.1 installed and you want to upgrade to IBM Data Studio full client, Version 3.1.1, select the package group in which the product that you want to replace appears.
