Defining an Optim Performance Manager profile

You define a profile to connect to an InfoSphere® Optim™ Performance Manager repository database so that you can import performance data for SQL statements that are run on a database that is monitored by InfoSphere Optim Performance Manager. After you define the profile, you can import performance data that is stored in the Optim Performance Manager repository database.

Before you begin

You must have a connection to the InfoSphere Optim Performance Manager repository database, or you must know the connection information to the repository database.
Note: A user ID is specified when creating a connection profile to the InfoSphere Optim Performance Manager repository database. The user ID must have the authorization to access the performance metrics stored in the repository database. During InfoSphere Optim Performance Manager installation, a user group was specified that can access the data. The user ID that is specified as part of the connection profile can be a member of the specified group.

If you are running SQL statements from the SQL editor and importing performance data from a repository database, you must also know the InfoSphere Optim Performance Manager Extended Insight communication port.

About this task

InfoSphere Optim Performance Manager Extended Insight monitors databases and gathers performance data on the SQL statements that are run on the databases. The profile specifies the connection to the Optim Performance Manager repository database that contains the information gathered from a monitored database.

Procedure

To define an Optim Performance Manager profile:

  1. Choose Window > Preferences.
  2. In the Preferences dialog box, expand the nodes Data Management > Optim Performance Manager Profiles.
  3. On the Optim Performance Manager Profiles page , click Add to create a profile.
  4. Specify the Optim Performance Manager profile information. You can select an existing database connection or click New to create a connection.
    • If you select an existing connection, the connection must be to an InfoSphere Optim Performance Manager repository database.
    • If you Click New to create a connection to an InfoSphere Optim Performance Manager repository database, the New Connection wizard opens. Create a connection to the InfoSphere Optim Performance Manager repository database with the wizard.
  5. If you are running SQL statements from the SQL editor and importing performance data from a repository database, specify the extended insight port.

Results

You can import SQL performance data from a database that is monitored by InfoSphere Optim Performance Manager Extended Edition.

The workbench displays imported SQL performance data in the following views:
  • In the SQL Outline view, when you import performance data for the SQL statements that are listed in the view.
  • In the Performance Metrics view, when you run an SQL statement from the SQL Editor and collect performance metrics.
