Modifying existing changes in a change plan

You can make additional changes to objects that already have planned changes. For example, you might want to change the attributes of a table that is being created or one that is being altered.

Before you begin

If the change plan that you want to modify the object changes for is not active in the change plan toolbar in the Object List, make the change plan active.

About this task

Not every changed object in the change plan can be modified. When you modify a changed object, the product attempts to automatically adjust any other planned changes that are affected by your modifications. In some cases, some dependencies cannot be handled automatically, and you will need to check the Problems view to determine the actions that you need to take. You can make the following types of changes:

Procedure

  1. In the change plan toolbar, click the linked number in the Icon image that shows the number of changes in the change plan (Show plan changes) icon. The changes in the change plan are displayed in the Object List.
  2. Review the changes.
  3. To make additional changes to a changed object, complete the following steps:
    1. Find the changed object in the Object List.
    2. Right-click the object and then click Alter.
    3. Change the attributes for the object in the Properties view.
  4. To add a change to drop a changed object, complete the following steps.
    1. Find the changed object in the Object List.
    2. Right-click the object and then click Drop.

Results

The change plan is updated to reflect your changes.

What to do next

You can generate and review the commands that are required to change the database. You can also close the change plan if you want to work with it at a later time.
