1.0 Overview

This document describes how to install the IBM^® Rational SoDA^® Integration feature by using the Rational^® Product Updater. This feature is provided as an update. You should download this feature directly from the IBM update server. However, you can also download a ZIP file that contains this feature for local installations. The following sections describe how to install this feature.

2.0 Installation prerequisites

Before you can install this feature you must install either IBM Rational Software Architect Interim Fix 003 or IBM Rational Software Modeler Interim Fix 003.

This feature offers support for the integration of IBM Rational SoDA for Word version 2003.06.14 or later.

Caution:  Before you can use the Rational Software Modeling SoDA Integration, you must go to the SoDA Patch Download web page at:

Select the link which indicates "Rational SoDA for Word V2003.06.14 - Rational Software Architect Integration". This web page includes a link to the SoDA RSA Integration patch and the readme file which describes the patch in detail and how to install it. The SoDA Integration will not work properly until this patch is installed.

Also, if you disabled any product features through the Update Manager (by clicking Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration), or by modifying feature.xml files, you must re-enable them before you install this feature.

3.0 Installing the feature from the Rational Product Updater

Install the feature with the same user account that installed Rational Software Architect or Rational Software Modeler.

Restrictions:

• On Windows^® operating systems, you must use an account with Administrator privileges.
• Rational Software Architect or Rational Software Modeler cannot be open when you install this feature.

To install the feature, complete the following steps:

1. Start the Rational Product Updater by clicking Start > Programs > IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.
2. Click Find Optional Features.


If the Rational Product Updater requires an update, you are prompted to install it before you can continue. Click OK. The Rational Product Updater installs the update, restarts, and retrieves a list of available updates.


3. By default, all available updates are selected. Ensure that you select IBM Rational SoDA Integration.


Tip: To view the description for this update, click the update. The description is displayed in the Detailed information view.


4. Click Install Features.
5. To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.


Depending on the speed of your computer processor, the amount of RAM, and the speed of your Internet connection, the update might take an extended period of time to download and install.

After the installation is complete, the Rational Product Updater lists the installed updates on the Installed Products page.


6. Close the Rational Product Updater.

4.0 Downloading the feature for local installations

You should install the feature directly from the IBM update server; however, it is also available for download. You might want to download and install the feature in the following situations:

• You have a slow or unstable Internet connection and want to use a download manager that can resume the download.
• You have difficulty accessing the live IBM update servers from behind a firewall.
• You prefer to download the feature and install it later.
• You administer a set of product installations that do not have direct access to the Internet.
• You administer a set of product installations that would benefit from a local mirror of the IBM update server.

To download and install the feature for Rational Software Architect, complete the following steps:

1. Download the feature from ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rationalsdp/rsa/60/zips/rsa60_soda_ifeature001.zip.
2. Extract the feature to a temporary directory, such as C:\temp.
3. For installation instructions, navigate to C:\temp\rsa\, and open install_local_soda.html.

To download and install the feature for Rational Software Modeler, complete the following steps:

1. Download the feature from ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rationalsdp/rsm/60/zips/rsm60_soda_ifeature001.zip.
2. Extract the feature to a temporary directory, such as C:\temp.
3. For installation instructions, navigate to C:\temp\rsm\, and open install_local_soda.html.
