1.0 About this release

The IBM® Rational XDE™ Model Import feature pI menarovides you with the ability to move existing Rational® XDE models, along with any custom UML profiles you may have created and applied to those models, into IBM Rational Software Architect or IBM Rational Software Modeler using the Rational XDE Model Import wizard. After importing an XDE model that is linked to an IBM Rational RequisitePro® project, you can re-establish the RequisitePro requirement links.

The related documentation for this feature is available in the Japanese language. A link to the Japanese version of this file is provided earlier in this document.

1.1 Product fix history

The following fixes are included in this release of the Rational XDE Model Import feature:

Defect Description
141973 When certain undirected associations were migrated, the names of the association ends were missing from the migrated diagrams. This has been fixed.
142077 Migration of diagrams containing association classes would sometimes result in an internal error message about not being able to create the view for the association class on the migrated diagram. This has been fixed.
142088 Default values for attributes of classifiers were sometimes not displayed on migrated diagrams. This has been fixed for many cases, so that default values for attributes are displayed once again. This could not be fixed for all cases because Rational XDE and Rational UML modeling products use different mechanisms for controlling the display of default values of attributes.
142110 If neither end of an XDE constrain relationship was a constraint, then the relationship was not being migrated at all. This has been changed so that the relationship is now migrated as a dependency with a «constrain» keyword.
142216 Items that were grouped together on Rational XDE diagrams were not being imported. Those items are now imported, though the grouping is lost.
142231 When one end of a connector on an XDE diagram was the view of an element that could not be found, XDE Model Import was reporting an internal error and was not migrating the connector. This has been changed so that XDE Model Import now reports an unresolved reference error and draws a rectangle on the diagram as a placeholder for the missing element.
142371

Hyperlinks from the XDE import report to model elements did not work correctly if the model containing the model element was closed. This has been fixed.

142829 If an interface had a stereotype attached to it and that stereotype had an associated image, then XDE would normally display the stereotype image if the interface was placed on diagrams. Earlier versions of XDE Model Import would usually migrate such diagrams so that the interface was displayed as a plain circle (also known as the “lollipop” notation). This has been fixed so the interface is now displayed using the stereotype image.
142832 Certain shapes on diagrams that were displayed with stereotype images were migrated so that the stereotype image was much too small. The behavior has been changed so that all shapes with stereotype images are automatically sized during migration. This will produce reasonable results for most shapes, but it could cause the diagram layout to change noticeably if the shape had been changed in XDE to be extra large or extra small.
142208 Alias names on XDE model elements are now migrated. In earlier versions alias names had been ignored.
142476 Certain stereotype images in XDE profiles were converted incorrectly during migration. This could result in stereotype images that would display incorrectly or would cause errors when displayed. This has been fixed, and the problematic stereotype images are now converted correctly.
142609/APAR PK05815 StubState elements that are owned directly by a state machine or activity graph are now handled cleanly and are treated the same as ProxyState elements. Previously, StubState elements were expected to be owned only by submachines or subactivities, and would cause problems for the importer if owned by something else.
142609/APAR PK05815 If an XDE model contains multiple elements with the same GUID, then XDE Model Import used to create an imported model with duplicate GUIDs, making it impossible to open the model. XDE Model Import now ensures that all migrated elements have unique GUIDs, even if multiple elements had the same GUID in XDE.
142840 If an XDE artifact element had a reference to an external file, the external reference was not being migrated. XDE Model Import now resolves the external reference during migration and stores the path in the fileName property of the migrated UML2 artifact element.
142458/APAR PK04828 The mapping for the migration of association classes has changed slightly. There is now a user option that allows more control over whether the XDE class that was the target of an associated class relationship is retained as a separate UML2 class element or is merged into the UML2 association class element. The default mapping was also changed so that the XDE class element is almost always merged into the association class element, and is retained as a UML2 class element only if the class and the association at the two ends of the XDE associated class relationship are in different models.
142831 Documentation for XDE diagram elements is not migrated because UML2 diagram elements don’t have a documentation field. As a workaround, XDE Model Import now migrates diagram documentation as a comment that is owned by the diagram’s parent. The comment has the keyword «DiagramDoc:name», where name is the name of the diagram. A view of this comment (which looks the same as a note) is also added to the diagram itself.
143303 The product may stop working if you use the RequisitePro Upgrade wizard to re-establish the associations between model elements and requirements in an imported RequisitePro-linked Rational XDE model, and then in a RequisitePro-linked Rational Rose® model.
1081402/APAR PK03399 Notes and text positioned above lifelines on sequence diagrams in XDE are no longer moved onto the lifelines when the model is imported.
1081692/APAR PK03472 Behaviored classifiers (such as activity graphs and state machines) that were owned by use-case elements in XDE were being reparented during import so that they were owned by the use-case element’s containing package. This has been fixed, so the behaviored classifiers are now owned by the migrated use-case element, just as they were in XDE.

2.0 Installation information

For information about installing the Rational XDE Model Import feature, installation prerequisites, installing from a command line, and setting up a local mirror of the update server, see the installation instructions at http://www3.software.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/rationalsdp/rsa/60/html/xde/install_60102.html.

2.1 Hardware requirements

No additional hardware requirements are necessary to install this feature.

2.2 Software requirements

You can install this feature for use with IBM Rational Software Architect, Version 6.0 or IBM Rational Software Modeler, Version 6.0. Before you install the feature, you must install IBM Rational Software Architect Refresh Pack 6.0.1 or IBM Rational Software Modeler Refresh Pack 6.0.1.

This feature offers support for the import of Rational XDE models used in Rational XDE Version 2003.06.12 or later. To determine the package and build ID of Rational XDE that you currently have installed, run the Rational Software Installed Product Information utility by clicking Start > Programs > Rational Software > Rational Software Installed Product Information.
