Overview: Creating or copying a Rational ProjectConsole repository

Rational ProjectConsole Maintenance Tool Help

To create or copy a Rational ProjectConsole repository, you start by selecting an existing repository to either copy or use to initialize a new warehouse. In addition, you must provide information about the databases that will be used to organize and store the data Rational ProjectConsole collects.

Note:  Before you can create a repository or copy an existing repository, you must first create the empty databases (the schema repository and warehouse databases) that are to store the copied data. The database requirements and preparation for Rational ProjectConsole are identical to those for Rational ClearQuest. For information about how to create these databases, see the section "Configuring vendor databases" in the IBM Rational ProjectConsole Installation and Upgrade Guide.

When you use the Maintenance Tool to create or copy a repository, Rational ProjectConsole performs the following actions:

  1. Creates a new folder in the ...\Program Files\Rational\ProjectConsole\DataRepository directory
  2. Copies the security database, the start.htm file (start page), and images folder from the source repository into the new repository
  3. Automatically configures the Rational ProjectConsole servers to use the new security database
  4. Copies the start.htm and images folder to the ...\Program Files \Rational\Common\rwp\webapps\projectconsole\pjc directory (from which they are served)
  5. Restarts the Rational Web Platform (RWP) Web server and servlet engines

Any time you use the Maintenance Tool to connect to a different repository, Rational ProjectConsole repeats these steps, resetting the security database and copying the start page and images folder.

Note: After you copy an existing repository, the Dashboard connection, which previously pointed to the source master database, points to the target master database.
