To test an individual ProjectConsole template, provide values for the OPEN command arguments and click ProjectConsole > Test Web Page. This runs the template against data and displays the completed page in the browser.
When you have a set of related primary and secondary templates, we recommend that you test them in ProjectConsole rather than in Word. Although you can test secondary templates using the Test Web Page command, the most accurate test for secondary templates is in the environment in which they are accessed.
To test a set of primary and secondary templates:
1. Prepare the set of templates.
2. Add hyperlinks using either of these methods:
· The Artifact Page hyperlink option in a DISPLAY command, providing the name of the target template
· The Insert > Hyperlink function in Word
3. Test the primary template in the Word environment by providing values for the OPEN command and clicking ProjectConsole > Test Web Page.
4. Set up and test a node for this primary template in the ProjectConsole Web site.
5. Test the hyperlinks to each secondary template.
6. As needed, modify the templates and then click Refresh in ProjectConsole to see the changes in resulting pages.
§ Maintain backups of all templates.
§ When creating or modifying templates, save them in a user-defined, product-specific area in
…Program Files\Rational\ProjectConsole\templates\<user_defined>\<product>
§ Do not modify the original templates provided with in the ProjectConsole Template Builder templates domain subdirectories. These provide a clean starting point for new templates.
§ Establish a numbering scheme for the different revisions. Use the File > Save As command in Word to name each revision.
§ Create a minimal sample domain that includes all the elements in your actual domain. This sample set allows you to generate quick tests of template on a representative subset of your actual source information.
