You must save user-defined templates in the same templates folder where the templates supplied with ProjectConsole templates are located. The default location is:
…Program Files\Rational\ProjectConsole\templates
However, it is good practice to keep your custom templates in a separate area of the templates folder. Additionally, we recommend that, like supplied templates, you organize custom templates by product domain. For example, you might construct paths such as these:
…Program Files\Rational\ProjectConsole\templates\custom\rose
…Program Files\Rational\ProjectConsole\templates\custom\reqpro
To customize a ProjectConsole Template Builder template:
1. Read about how Template Builder extracts information.
2. Identify the domain that contains the information you need to document.
3. Do one of the following:
§ Choose a template as a starting point, normally one of the supplied templates for that domain. The supplied templates are in the templates folder in ProjectConsole path.
§ Create a new template based on ProjectConsole.dot.
4. Use the Template View to add, modify, and/or delete ProjectConsole Template Builder commands as needed:
Note: If you work in the document, show the existing Template Builder commands so you can be sure the insertion point is in the correct position.
5. Save the template in a user-defined, product specific folder.
6. Test the template to be sure it works as you want it to.
Getting the results you want in a generated Web page depends on the Template Builder commands you use and how you place them in the template. To achieve the results you want, you should have a good understanding of your information as it exists within each domain. A detailed document plan can also help.
