Module 8: Managing Requirements

Exercises

In the following exercise, you will create a query in a Traceability Matrix.
  1. On the Tool Palette, click the Views icon.
  2. Click the Create a New View icon, and create a Traceability Matrix of TR-TC type.
  3. Click View > Query Row Requirements.
The Select Attribute dialog box appears.
  4. Continue instructions
, you can set up a query for the row requirements and a completely independent query for the column requirements. Moreover, you can query against any requirement type (even those that are indirectly related) and you can even specify multiple requirement types, or multiple attribute values of a specified attribute containing more than one active value.

Experiment with the query engine to develop queries that answer the types of questions you would like to ask of your requirement repository.

You can save what you have done so it can be reused. RequisitePro supports saving and restoring views by name.
  1. Click File > Save View from the View menu bar.
The Save View As dialog box appears and allows you to name your view and choose to either use it personally or share it project-wide with other project users.
  2. Type the name Practice Queries and click OK to save the view and close the dialog box.
To recall the view, select File > Open View, or click the Open a previously saved view icon and select the view that you have saved.

Your final exercise involves the Discussions feature of RequisitePro.
  1. Open the document Test Procedures for Use Case: Browse Catalog.
  2. Place your cursor in the requirement TP2, and choose Requirement > Discussions from the Tool Palette. (Note the Tool Palette is used regardless of the location of the requirement.)
RequisitePro displays a Show all discussions icon on the Tool Palette. If the user has unread discussion items for any groups in which the he or she is a named participant, this icon becomes yellow.
  3. Click this icon to activate the discussion window.
Once activated, a Discussions window appears with all discussion entries listed. To view an existing discussion, double-click the entry, and the text of the entry appears in the lower window. If you wish to respond to the comment, click Reply, and a new text window appears to allow your comments to be added. To begin a new discussion topic, click the Create button. The Discussion Properties window appears and contains four tabs. These tabs allow entry of the new subject and discussion text (General); assignment of attributes to the discussion (Attributes); the definition of participants allowed to actively enter the discussion (Participants), and the requirement or requirements to which this discussion applies (Requirements).
Congratulations! You have completed this introduction to some of the many features offered by RequisitePro. Further information is available from several sources, including the Let's Go RequisitePro splash screen and Using RequisitePro.
