About the ClearTeam Explorer

ClearTeam Explorer technology provides access to ClearCase from a variety of network connections, including broadband (WAN), dial-up, and traditional local area networks (LANs). This technology is available in the ClearTeam Explorer in the following forms:

The ClearTeam Explorer is a self-contained application that is not integrated with Eclipse and does not depend on any particular development environment. It includes:
- Viewers, such as the ClearTeam Navigator and ClearTeam Details view, that provide access to resources loaded into ClearCase views and also allow you to browse the contents of remote ClearCase repositories
- Dialog boxes that implement ClearCase operations such as checkout and checkin
- Wizards that automate tasks such as joining a UCM project and creating ClearCase views
- Toolbars and context menus that provide access to the dialog boxes and wizards
The ClearTeam Explorer is installed using the IBM Installation Manager. Refer to the Installing and upgrading help in the Rational ClearCase 8.0 Information Center for more information.
The ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse, which integrates the ClearTeam Explorer with the Eclipse 3.4 or greater platforms. In the ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse, all ClearTeam Explorer viewers are available in the ClearCase Explorer perspective and can be added to other Eclipse perspectives as well. Dialog boxes and wizards are accessible from ClearCase toolbars (which can be added to any Eclipse perspective that supports a Team provider) and also from the Eclipse Team context menu. The ClearTeam Explorer Extension for Rational Software Delivery Platform products, which installs the ClearTeam Explorer into a Rational product based on the Rational Software Delivery Platform on Eclipse 3.4 or greater. To install the ClearTeam Explorer Extension for Rational Software Delivery Platform products, you must be running version 8.0.x or greater of both the ClearTeam Explorer and the CCRC WAN server.
The ClearTeam Explorer Extension for Rational Software Delivery Platform products is installed using the IBM Installation Manager. Refer to the Installing and upgrading help in the Rational ClearCase 8.0 Information Center for more information.
The ClearTeam Explorer for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, 2008, or 2010 provides access to ClearCase from a variety of network connections, including broadband (WAN), dial-up, and traditional local area networks (LANs). It is used to add support for ClearCase web views from within the Visual Studio shell.
The ClearTeam Explorer for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, 2008, or 2010, offers a first-class integration with the Microsoft Visual Studio IDE. It provides menus and toolbars to perform basic ClearCase operations such as checkout and checkin and automates tasks such as joining a UCM project and creating ClearCase views. In addition, it enables developers to manage their VS.NET solution and project artifacts in ClearCase views and perform advanced ClearCase search operations with tool windows such as Front Desk, ClearCase Search, and Pending Solution Checkins.

The ClearTeam Explorer for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, 2008, or 2010 is installed using the IBM Installation Manager. Refer to the Installing and upgrading help in the Rational ClearCase 8.0 Information Center for more information.

The ClearTeam Explorer, the ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse, and the ClearTeam Explorer for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, 2008, or 2010, is powered by Eclipse technology. Eclipse is an award-winning, open source platform for the construction of powerful software development tools and rich desktop applications. Installing GEF

Rational ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse requires that GEF be installed in your Eclipse environment. If you do not have GEF, you must install it before installing the Rational ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse.

About this task

If your environment already has GEF installed, you do not need to perform this task. To check if it is installed, start Eclipse and click Help > About Eclipse, then click the Feature Details button. If there is an entry with "Graphical Editing Framework" in the Feature Name field and "org.eclipse.gef" in the Feature ID field, then you have GEF installed in your Eclipse environment.

Note: You must be logged in as a local Administrator with sufficient privileges for updating your installation of Eclipse.

Download the GEF Runtime feature that corresponds to your version of Eclipse from the Eclipse Web site (http://www.eclipse.org) and unzip it into your Eclipse directory, or follow these steps to install GEF with the Eclipse Update Manager:

Procedure

Installing GEF with Eclipse 3.4
1. On the Eclipse main menu, click Help > Software Updates.
2. On the Available Software page, select Ganymede Update Site and expand the option to see a list of available features.
3. Expand the Graphical Editors and Frameworks section and select the Graphical Editing Framework version that corresponds with the version of Eclipse that you are using.
4. Click Install.
5. On the Install page, click Next.
6. On the Review Licenses page, read the license agreement carefully. If you accept the terms, select I accept the terms in the license agreement and then click Finish. If you do not accept the terms, select Cancel to end the installation.
7. When the installation completes, you are prompted to restart Eclipse or apply changes. Click Yes to restart Eclipse.
Installing GEF with Eclipse 3.5
1. On the Eclipse main menu, click Help > Install New Software.
2. On the Available Software page, select Galileo - http://download.eclipse.org/releases/galileo from the Work with pull down menu, expand the Modeling option, select the Graphical Modeling Framework SDK option, and click Next.
3. On the Install Details page, verify that Graphical Modeling Framework SDK appears as an item to be installed and click Next.
4. On the Review Licenses page, read the license agreement carefully. If you accept the terms, select I accept the terms in the license agreements and then click Finish. If you do not accept the terms, select Cancel to end the installation.
5. When the installation completes, you are prompted to restart Eclipse or apply changes. Click Yes to restart Eclipse.
Installing GEF with Eclipse 3.6
1. On the Eclipse main menu, click Help > Install New Software.
2. On the Available Software page, select Helios - http://download.eclipse.org/releases/helios from the Work with pull down menu, expand the Modeling option, select the Graphical Editing Framework GEF SDK option, and click Next.
3. On the Install Details page, verify that Graphical Editing Framework GEF SDK appears as an item to be installed and click Next.
4. On the Review Licenses page, read the license agreement carefully. If you accept the terms, select I accept the terms in the license agreements and then click Finish. If you do not accept the terms, select Cancel to end the installation.
5. When the installation completes, you are prompted to restart Eclipse or apply changes. Click Restart Now to restart Eclipse.
Installing GEF with Eclipse 3.7
1. On the Eclipse main menu, click Help > Install New Software.
2. On the Available Software page, select Indigo- http://download.eclipse.org/releases/indigo from the Work with pull down menu, expand the Modeling option, select the Graphical Editing Framework GEF SDK option, and click Next.
3. On the Install Details page, verify that Graphical Editing Framework GEF SDK appears as an item to be installed and click Next.
4. On the Review Licenses page, read the license agreement carefully. If you accept the terms, select I accept the terms in the license agreement and then click Finish. If you do not accept the terms, select Cancel to end the installation.
5. When the installation completes, you are prompted to restart Eclipse or apply changes. Click Restart Now to restart Eclipse.

Installing the Rational ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse

Before you begin

Before installing the Rational ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse, you must install GEF to your Eclipse environment. See Installing GEF above.

About this task

If you are using Eclipse (version 3.4 or greater) for your integrated development environment (IDE) and would like to use the Rational ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse to provide Team services in the Eclipse environment, follow the instructions for Installing with Eclipse 3.4 or Installing with Eclipse 3.5 or Installing with Eclipse 3.6 or 3.7.

Note: You must be logged in as a local Administrator with sufficient privileges for updating your installation of Eclipse.

Procedure

Installing with Eclipse 3.4
1. If Eclipse is not running, start Eclipse.
2. On the Eclipse main menu, click Help > Software Updates.
3. On the Available Software page, select Add Site.
4. In the Add Site dialog:
  1. In the Location field specify a URL of the form http://<computer-name>/ccrc/update where <computer-name> is the name of the computer that has Rational ClearCase and the CCRC Server for Rational ClearTeam Explorer installed on it. Alternatively, if you have installed a local ClearTeam Explorer Update site during your ClearCase client installation, click Local and navigate to the root directory of your update site.
    Note: Rational ClearCase may be installed on this computer or on a remote computer.
  2. Click OK.
5. The new update site appears in the Available Software page. The site is expanded to display all available downloads. Select Rational ClearTeam Explorer and click Install.
  Note: If you see an error about the Rational ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse requiring the "org.eclipse.draw2d" plug-in, follow the instructions in Installing GEF to install the GEF Runtime plug-in.
6. On the Install page, verify that all the features are selected, and click Next.
7. On the Review Licenses page, read the license agreement carefully. If you accept the terms, select I accept the terms in the license agreement and then click Finish. If you do not accept the terms, select Cancel to end the installation.
8. On the Search Results page, expand the tree under the new update site name, select Rational ClearTeam Explorer and then click Next.
  Note: If you see an error about the Rational ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse requiring the "org.eclipse.draw2d" plug-in, follow the instructions in Step 1 to install the GEF Runtime plug-in.
9. On the Feature License page, read the license agreement carefully. If you accept the terms, select I accept the terms in the license agreements and then click Next. If you do not accept the terms, select Cancel to end the installation.
  Note: You may be presented with a dialog box prompting you to verify that you trust the signer of the jar files in which the client is packaged.
  After this step, the Eclipse update manager installs the ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse into the selected Eclipse installation directory and then prompts you to restart Eclipse.
10. Click Yes to restart Eclipse. To validate the installation after Eclipse restarts, go to the Eclipse main menu, click Window > Open Perspective > Other and then select ClearTeam Explorer to open the ClearTeam Explorer perspective.
Installing with Eclipse 3.5
1. If Eclipse is not running, start Eclipse.
2. On the Eclipse main menu, click Help > Install New Software.
3. On the Available Software page, click Add.
4. In the Add Site dialog:
  1. In the Location field specify a URL of the form http://<computer-name>/ccrc/update where <computer-name> is the name of the computer that has Rational ClearCase and the CCRC Server for Rational ClearTeam Explorer installed on it. Alternatively, if you have installed a local ClearTeam Explorer Update site during your ClearCase client installation, click Local and navigate to the root directory of your update site.
    Note: Rational ClearCase may be installed on this computer or on a remote computer.
  2. Click OK.
5. The new update site appears in the Available Software page. Select Rational ClearTeam Explorer and click Next.
6. On the Install page, verify that the Rational ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse appears as an item to be installed and click Next.
7. On the Review Licenses page, read the license agreement carefully. If you accept the terms, select I accept the terms in the license agreements and then click Finish. If you do not accept the terms, select Cancel to end the installation. After this step, the Eclipse update manager installs the ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse into the selected Eclipse installation directory and then prompts you to restart Eclipse.
8. Click Yes to restart Eclipse. To validate the installation after Eclipse restarts, go to the Eclipse main menu, click Window > Open Perspective > Other and then select ClearTeam Explorer to open the ClearTeam Explorer perspective.
Installing with Eclipse 3.6 or 3.7
1. If Eclipse is not running, start Eclipse.
2. On the Eclipse main menu, click Help > Install New Software.
3. On the Available Software page, click Add.
4. In the Add Repository dialog:
  1. In the Location field specify a URL of the form http://<computer-name>/ccrc/update where <computer-name> is the name of the computer that has Rational ClearCase and the CCRC Server for Rational ClearTeam Explorer installed on it. Alternatively, if you have installed a local ClearTeam Explorer Update site during your ClearCase client installation, click Local and navigate to the root directory of your update site.
    Note: Rational ClearCase may be installed on this computer or on a remote computer.
  2. Click OK.
5. The new update site appears in the Available Software page. Select Rational ClearTeam Explorer and click Next.
6. On the Install Details page, verify that the Rational ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse appears as an item to be installed and click Next.
7. On the Review Licenses page, read the license agreement carefully. If you accept the terms, select I accept the terms in the license agreements and then click Finish. If you do not accept the terms, select Cancel to end the installation. After this step, the Eclipse update manager installs the ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse into the selected Eclipse installation directory and then prompts you to restart Eclipse.
8. Click Restart Now to restart Eclipse. To validate the installation after Eclipse restarts, go to the Eclipse main menu, click Window > Open Perspective > Other and then select ClearTeam Explorer to open the ClearTeam Explorer perspective.

Checking for Updates

About this task

Updates to the ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse are available through IBM Rational CCRC WAN Server and installed via the Eclipse update mechanism. Updates to the ClearTeam Explorer or ClearTeam Explorer Extension are available through an Installation Manager repository and installed via Installation Manager. Your ClearCase Administrator will inform you when updates are available and should be installed on your client machine.

Procedure

To perform the update procedure if you are running the ClearTeam Explorer for Eclipse, complete one of the following actions:
- If you are running Eclipse 3.4, click Help > Software Updates. On the Installed Software page, select the features you want to update and click Update.
- If you are running Eclipse 3.5, 3.6 or 3.7, click Help > Check for Updates. In the Available Updates page, select the updates you want to install and click Next. On the Update Details page, verify your selections and click Finish to complete the process.
To perform the update procedure if you are running the ClearTeam Explorer or the ClearTeam Explorer Extension for Rational Software Delivery Platform products, you can update directly from a repository site. The ClearTeam Explorer and the ClearTeam Explorer Extension for Rational Software Delivery Platform products are installed using the IBM Installation Manager.
