Creating a New Project in a ClearCase View

A Microsoft® Visual Studio project must be stored in a view before you can place it under Rational® ClearCase® source control. The recommended way to store a project in a ClearCase view is to create the project in the view.

To create a new Visual Studio project in a ClearCase view directory:
  1. In the Views page of the Front Desk, select a UCM, base ClearCase, or Web view.
  2. Right-click the view and click New Project.
  3. In the New Project window, select a project type and template.
  4. Under Name, enter a project name.
  5. Under Location, enter a VOB directory in your current view.
Important: Do not specify the root directory of the view. The project must be located under the view root, in a VOB directory.

In a snapshot view, artifacts that are created in the view root directory are not ineligible for source control.

  6. Select Add to Rational ClearCase to add the project to source control at this time.
  7. Click OK. For more information about creating projects, see the Visual Studio help. The new project is created. If you selected Add to Rational ClearCase, the Add to Source Control window opens.
  8. In the Add to Source Control window, add a comment to describe the file or directory, select any additional options, and click Apply to All (for multiple files) to continue the add to source control operation.
The new project is added to the list of recently used projects on the View page in Front Desk. The project files are view-private objects if you did not select Add to Rational ClearCase in the Visual Studio New Project window.
