Setting Up UCM Work Areas

To use UCM, you must set up one or more work areas. The number of work areas that you need depends on whether the UCM project you join has one or more streams.

In a multiple-stream project, you access source files in one or more private work areas. Other developers have their own, similar work areas, each in its own development stream. When you complete a set of activities, you deliver your work to the project’s shared stream, called the integration stream. The integration stream is visible to other team members through integration views. This model supports parallel development.

In a single-stream project, all team members access source files in a work area that accesses a single integration stream. This model is intended for serial development.

You can set up work areas in one of the following ways:

If your project uses the Rational® ClearQuest® integration with UCM, connect your UCM project to a Rational ClearQuest schema repository.
