Introduction

The support by the TOSHIBA Diagnostics for POS Systems and Peripherals for the 4820-21x/51x touch panels provides more capabilities than what was provided for predecessor touch panels.

The diagnostic capabilities associated with these touch panels are:

Touch screen test
MSR test for MSR attached to the touch panel
Keypad test for the keypad attached to the touch panel
Keylock test for the keylock attached to the touch panel
Monitor Tone Indicator Test
Touch Panel Firmware update
4820 Video Update (video firmware)
Touch configuration
- Beep on touch configuration
- Unintended Touch Rejection Configuration
- Enable/Disable the Monitor Tone function

This document provides details on using the tools in the TGCS Diagnostics package for the 4820-21x/51x SurePoint touch panel.

This touch panel can be attached to any TOSHIBA POS system unit.

See the README file for this Diagnostics package to see the system units on which the TGCS Diagnostics package can be run. Be aware that this diagnostics package cannot be run on older legacy TGCS POS system units.

There may be one or two 4820 touch panels attached to the TOSHIBA POS system units.

These 4820 touch panels may also be attached to non-TOSHIBA POS system units.

In this case, you will need to attach the touch panel to an TOSHIBA POS system unit or to a Lenovo laptop to run the diagnostics package against it to service it.

Tests for the 4820-21x-51x Touch Panel

This section focuses on the tests related to this touch panel.

See the screen shots below that show how to navigate to the tests in the TGCS Diagnostics package.

Click on Point of Sale Devices button and this next screen appears:

If you have a keypad attached to the touch screen, answer YES to the question presented above.

The next panel relates to a cash drawer that may be attached to a POS printer. Answer the question presented based on your particular configuration.

The screen below tells you it is now setting up the diagnostic software to be able to communicate with the POS Devices.

The screen below shows the devices that typically appear when a 4820-21x/51x is attached. If you have two of these touch screens attached, there will be two of each device shown on the panel. The devices directly related to the touch screen are Keylock, MSR, Tone Indicator, POS Keyboard, and Touch Screen.

Touch Screen Test

The touch test can be found by:

Clicking on Point of Sale Devices button on the main diagnostics panel
The Point of Sale Device Diagnostics panel is shown next containing a Touch Screen button.
Click on the Touch Screen button and follow the directions on the panel. See the screen shot shown below for the Touch Screen Diagnostics screen shot.

Note: This test requires user interaction and end user assessment to determine the success or failure of the test.

MSR Test

You will need to use an TOSHIBA Test Card for this test.S Systems and Peripherals for the 4820-21x/

The MSR test can be found by:

Clicking on Point of Sale Devices button on the main diagnostics panel
The Point of Sale Device Diagnostics panel is shown next containing an MSR USB button.
Click on the MSR USB button and follow the directions on the panel. See the screen shot below for the MSR Device Diagnostics screen.

Note: This test requires user interaction. If you do not use an TOSHIBA Test Card for this activity and use some other card, most of the data read from the card will be hidden. However, you will be able to see the length of the data read. If you use an TOSHIBA Test Card, all the data read from the card is displayed in the clear as a result of the test..

POS Keyboard Test

The keypad test can be found by:

Clicking on Point of Sale Devices button on the main diagnostics panel
The Point of Sale Device Diagnostics panel is shown next containing a POS Keyboard USB button.
Click on the POS Keyboard USB button and follow the directions on the panel. See the screen shot below for the POS Keyboard Device Diagnostics panel.
You will press each key and the associated key on the keypad diagram will change color.

Keylock Test

The Keylock test can be found by:

Clicking on Point of Sale Devices button on the main diagnostics panel
The Point of Sale Device Diagnostics panel is shown next containing a Keylock USB button.
Click on the Keylock USB button and follow the directions on the panel. See the screen shot below for the Keylock Device Diagnostics panel.

Tone Indicator Test

The keypad test can be found by:

Clicking on Point of Sale Devices button on the main diagnostics panel
The Point of Sale Device Diagnostics panel is shown next containing a Tone Indicator USB button.
Click on the Tone Indicator USB button and follow the directions on the panel. See the screen shot below for the Tone Indicator Device Diagnostics panel.

Note that there are two different Tone Indicator tests. You will see only one at any time. There is a Tone Indicator test associated with the tone in the keypad when the keypad is attached.

If the keypad is not attached, there is a Tone Indicator test associated with the touch panel itself. If the Tone Indicator is enabled, the Tone Indicator test button appears on the POS I/O Diagnostics panel. If the Tone Indicator is disabled, the Tone Indicator test button does not appear on the POS I/O Diagnostics panel.

Note that the Tone Indicator test when a keypad is not attached to the display will have the Volume option grayed out. The volume control is not available for the Tone Indicator test when the keypad is not attached to the touch panel.

Utilities for the 4820-21x-51x Touch Panel

This section focuses on the utilities related to this touch panel. Go back to the home screen of Diagnostics.

Click on the Utilities button.

The utilities directly associated with the 4820-21x/51x touch panel are Touch Panel Firmware Update, 4820 Video Update, 4820 Display VPD, and 4820 Display Configuration

Firmware Update

Touch Panel Firmware Update

Before starting this activity, be sure you have the touch firmware file you want to install.

You can copy the touch firmware file into this location on the memory key \utilities\flash\touch_panel

This utility can be found by:

Clicking on Utilities button on the main diagnostics panel
The Utilities panel is shown next containing the utilities associated with the system unit and the attached peripherals.
Click on the Touch Panel Firmware Update button and follow the directions on the panel. See the screen shot below for the Touch Panel Firmware Update Utility screen.
You will be told when the firmware update is complete.

4820 Video Update

Before starting this activity, be sure you have the video firmware files you want to install.

You must have 4 firmware files to have a complete set.

You can copy the video firmware files into this location on the memory key \utilities\flash\4820_video

This utility can be found by:

Clicking on Utilities button on the main diagnostics panel
Click on the 4820 Video Update button and follow the directions on the panel. See the screen shot below for the 4820 Video Update Utility screen
Identify the firmware file you want to use
You will be notified when the firmware update is complete.

If the video firmware update cannot complete because of a power event or some other reason, boot the system again with the same diagnostics key used for the original video firmware update attempt, the video firmware update process will occur automatically upon system boot.

4820 Display VPD

VPD means Vital Product Data. This utility is only intended for use in special cases.

4820 Display Configuration

Clicking on Utilities button on the main diagnostics panel
The Utilities panel is shown next containing a 4820 Display Configuration button. See the screen shot below for the 4820 Display Configuration Utility screen.
Click on the 4820 Display Configuration button and follow the directions on the panel.
You will find a Beep On Touch button, Unintended Touch , and Tone Setup options on the screen.
You are given the option of setting the following characteristics of the Beep On Touch capability if Beep on Touch is enabled:
Tone Frequency
Tone Duration
When setting tone frequency and/or tone duration, there are ranges of values of one setting that may affect the other. The system will set the settings to the closest available value to the numbers you enter.

You are given the option of choosing the levels at which Unintended Touches will be rejected.
You are given the option of enabling or disabling the Tone Indicator support in the 4820.
If Tone Indicator support is disabled, the Test Tone button is not available.
