Once any required customizations have taken place, the taxonomy can be published. The publish functionality is provided in order to minimize any impact on searches while the taxonomy data is being imported, customized or updated. Information and referral systems are expected to be accurate and hence it is important to make sure that the data returned when searching is reliable and is not impacted by changes made to the taxonomy data.
Once published, taxonomy terms in a taxonomy version are available for indexing. Publishing the taxonomy should be done not only after incorporating the taxonomy in the database for the first time, but also following any further additions and updates to the Taxonomy.
